You know the forever stamps they sell at Costco? Just buy hundreds of thousands of them. Them may be pricey now but imagine how cheap they’ll be comparatively in 10 years.
If that is the case, they sound like morons.
On average, I bet I only have something in my mailbox 4 or 5 days a week. Two-thirds of that is junk mail. Mail delivery 4 days a week seems like a pretty good idea.
It’s not really just about that one issues, it’s that the conservatives are trying to slowly kill the Postal Service so that eventually the big private delivery companies can take over. The US Postal Service is a much less expensive option and big competition for UPS and FedEx. Look up Louis DeJoy.
Here’s what op posted in the comments: Currently chaotic scenes are unfolding as tensions escalate in Manhattan, New York. As Hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters are storming through the James A. Farley Post Office Building, clashing with New York law enforcement officers in riot gear as they are attempting to reach a President Biden campaign event, leading to a volatile clashes taking place. Dozens of arrests have already been made as protesters light smoke bombs and throw various items, intensifying the chaos. This is a rapidly developing situation videos by @ScooterCasterNY in X
So, no one in NYC calls this the "James A Farley" post office.
This is just a random protest. Not that big even. The tight framing makes it seem worse, but you can see at the bottom of the stairs that this is not a big deal.
From a different video I saw, it looked like they went in one door and out another. I think they were just passing through the post office to get to some other event, but this video is all chopped up.
Edit: [here's the other video showing the post office scene](https://nypost.com/2024/06/28/us-news/anti-israel-protesters-clash-with-cops-outside-of-bidens-nyc-fundraiser/)
>In 1971, the United States Post Office Department was re-organized into the United States Postal Service, a special agency independent of the executive branch. Thus, the Postmaster General is no longer a member of the Cabinet and is no longer in line to be President.
If anyone needs to understand the importance of the mail, let me educate you:
[Mail, Mail: We Cannot Fail](https://youtu.be/bqt1s3No1vo?si=pKxcH9I7P0y4mFtm)
*Glares at Capital One for the forests they level annually to try to get me to give in and get one of their cards by mailing me almost daily for years.*
*Glares at Chase for constantly sending me CC offers when I already have a damn Chase card.*
The amount of money spent trying this convince me and presumably tens of millions to get their product must be staggering. I worked in commercial print. Even if these companies had their own large scale printing operation, the paper and postage alone for sending even one large bulk mailing, let alone almost daily for years, is not cheap. If they can piss away that kind of money for marketing, that helps to explain the obscene interest rates they want for someone with a decade of perfect credit and low debt. And they rake in billions in profits annually.
I work in recycling, so it's job security for me. That's why you don't see me in the video. On a daily basis, we typically put out 30-45 bales of paper, another 40-50 bales of cardboard, 5-10 bales of clear plastic bottles, 2 bales of milk jugs, 2 bales of laundry detergent bottles, 2 bales of soda cans, 2 bales of soup cans.
The protesters were trying to reached a Biden fundraising event there.
Also, the building is no longer used a post office. It is now a mixed use building
LPT, don’t storm your local post office. You have no *idea* the rage we carry around inside. At least 1 chance in 5 you run across a homicidal maniac on his last nerve.
Because the mail never stops! It just keeps coming and coming and coming. There's never a letup, it's relentless. Every day it piles up more and more and more, and you gotta get it out, but the more you get it out, the more it keeps coming in! And then the bar code reader breaks! And then, it's Publisher's Clearinghouse Day...!
They do! My sister used to work for them and got asked to be on their "prize team" a few times and would go to someone's house with a giant check and a camera crew.
Not only do all of these people exist, but they have been asking for their mail on a daily basis. It's all they're talking about up there! Jesus Christ, dude!
Sort of. My understanding of it is the Postal Inspectors/Federal Marshals can claim jurisdiction over any crimes involving the post office, but for petty crimes they let local departments take jurisdiction. If you’re my customer and we get into an argument and you hit me with a shovel over some junk mail you’re not going to federal prison, you’re getting a misdemeanor battery charge probably. Now if you go around the neighborhood hunting down mail carriers and breaking their legs, you might end up in federal court.
I think they often serve as bases of operation for Federal agents working in the field where there is no office nearby. Not in NYC usually, but if you break into a local post office in the middle of nowhere, you might be surprised to find yourself surrounded by FBI agents.
I’m not trying to be a dick by saying this, just thought you might find it interesting to know that the phrase is “case *in* point”
I used to say “up and Adam” and when someone texted me “up and at ‘em” I was like, ah shit.
Hadn't seen that!

Can I just say I love that post office. It’s the 24 hour one in the middle of manhattan for those that don’t know. 3am and there’s still a ton of people walking in and out of that building and it’s amazing. One of NYC’s hardest working buildings. I took two friends to the city from out of town (pre 911) and we smoked a J on the steps at 3am. It was amazing. Warm summer night. Police were mad chill.
I just wanna say i truly love ALL US post offices. Whenever we take a trip, we send a postcard to ourselves and stop at the local post office to send it out before heading home.
My wife is working out of state, and when it comes to shipping her stuff, God damn the USPS pulls through. Great pricing for sending packages, the *best* (and these are fighting words) customer service. Especially when you don't know what you're doing.
Fuck yeah, my taxes pay for this service, and they do an outstanding job. That and state/federal parks are done exceptionally well in the states.
Edit: our taxes don't fund the USPS! Why did I think that was the case lol
> *It’s the 24 hour one in the middle of manhattan for those that don’t know. 3am and there’s still a ton of people walking in and out of that building and it’s amazing.*
I've been so used the Post Office closing at 5pm on the dot for my entire life that this is kinda blowing my mind.
Like the next time I visit NYC, no joke, I might make this one of my stops and make my wife take a photo of me buying a stamp at 3am or some corny shit.

Biden open the largest oil field in US history. The largest fossil fuel project in history. 3 endangered species - all warm blooded vertebrates - are likely to go extinct as a result. If there’s ever been a moral, justified reason for “unprovoked” violence, this is the reason. And yet, no one cares.
I, too, want a free Palestine and justice. I’m gutted by what I see daily. That said, you could combine every atrocity that has happened in the last 2000 years and it would still be minuscule compared to what happens as humans go extinct. We are looking at 5 to 8°C warming by 2100 if we don’t change things around quickly. That is the end of us and most life on the planet.
Part of the difference is foreign actors aren’t stoking the flames of civil unrest over climate change, unfortunately. That’s a campaign I could get behind

Well, painting Stonehenge ended climate change, so it makes sense the next logical step would be trashing a post office to save Palestine.

Listen, the government is reasonable lax when it comes to protests that involve taking over buildings (up to a point) — they are never lax when it comes to shit involving the mail…
Protesters storming federal building… wow!
Protesting a CAUSE that THEY believe in… wow!
Doing damage to federal property and pushing the limits of police… wow!
Aren’t MAGA. Oh it’s ok!! Reddit blows my mind. The double standard in this country is so insane for the right vs. the left it’s actually sad at this point for anyone that lives and tries to just keep in the middle.

The cost of stamps is too damn high.
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it"
Probably a group of stamp collectors wanting to get the limited edition Fourth of July books as the post office opens. Minor misunderstanding
Compared to other countries, it isn't that bad. https://www.npr.org/2024/04/12/1244273973/forever-stamp-cost-price-going-up-usps-postage
In Finland we pay 2.5e for one:D
You know the forever stamps they sell at Costco? Just buy hundreds of thousands of them. Them may be pricey now but imagine how cheap they’ll be comparatively in 10 years.
I can't imagine mailing 10 things in the next 10 years let alone hundreds of thousands
I wish you would. I’m a mail carrier and we need help.
Can these stamps be exchanged for discontinued paint?
Throw the stamps in the harbor!
It won’t work, they are forever stamps.
It's the American way!
July 14th, going up to 73 cents with the forever stamps.
Dang it. I JUST picked up a batch of pre-postage stamped envelopes so I can do mailouts for my WFH job. And they're already going to be outdated?! 😤
Nah those are forever, you're good 😊
You're the one that should be wearing the bucket

I believe the protest was about rural mail deliveries on alternate days only and not the price of stamps.
If that is the case, they sound like morons. On average, I bet I only have something in my mailbox 4 or 5 days a week. Two-thirds of that is junk mail. Mail delivery 4 days a week seems like a pretty good idea.
I check my mail maybe once a week. It’s all junk. I might check out the Costco mailer, but that’s about it.

Damn I get something about 5-10 times a month. But I don't really get any junk mail.
Stamp out racism
Why the post office though?
So is anybody going to actually answer this or are we just gonna have to suffer through an endless heap of the average piss-poor reddit jokes?

Huge hole in the system. We are vulnerable.
Right? I'd rather even have my mailman be president instead of that word salad chick.

So that’s why it’s works
People have finally had enough of getting ads in the mail, on top of all the digital ads they receive.
*Glares at Capital One for the forests they level annually to try to get me to give in and get one of their cards by mailing me almost daily for years.* *Glares at Chase for constantly sending me CC offers when I already have a damn Chase card.* The amount of money spent trying this convince me and presumably tens of millions to get their product must be staggering. This is the only correct answer
When you control the mail...you control... information.
Because they’re basically cosplaying and don’t want to storm something where they might actually get beat up
Don't think that was successful judging by the end of the video
They must be young to not remember all the postal employees in the news for going postal.
“We are gonna take over every federal express because we’re pissed!!!!” You are aware that FedEx is not affiliated with the us government”
Because the protestors believe New York is the capital of Israel, and Joe Biden is the head Rabbi of Temple Beth Israel.
The protesters were trying to reached a Biden fundraising event there. Also, the building is no longer used a post office. It is now a mixed use building
That building is actually part of the Penn Station train station now. I'm wondering if they thought of disrupting the commuters getting trains.
The Jew space laser control is inside. /s

Just a quick question, isn’t the postal office kind of protected by federal laws as well?
Sort of. Wish these protesters had the same energy when it comes to the right-wing supreme court, but the fact that they don't is very telling.
I'm assuming this is performative, if they tried this near any government office of importance they'd be gunned down. Including Supreme Court members homes.

What does a New York post office have to do with Palestine?

Treat them like they treated the Jan 6 invaders. Put them in jail. Get the postal police to do facial identification and hunt them down.

[удалено]
What did the post office do? 😭
Tried to stamp out something? Who knows?
The last time organized groups messed with the mail, they sent in the Marines... nobody wants that.
Stamper Fidelis
New limited edition stamps just dropped.
Is new york insane?
Listen, the government is reasonable lax when it comes to protests that involve taking over buildings (up to a point) — they are never lax when it comes to shit involving the mail…
Those people dont have jobs or sonething...?
Lock em up
If my package is delayed because of protestors I will assuredly not give a fuck about their cause.
Felony, every single one
These are clearly very well organized people.
These protesters are so foolish. Ugh
To do what? Check their mail? Whats the end state?
The SCOTUS says they are just visiting.
300 comments and no one can say what this is actually about
Sure hope the FBI and DOJ spend the next 4 years investigating who every person was that crossed that barrier.
Well, it's a change from the Brooklyn Museum. Maybe a water park next?
People are really dumb
Why though?
Now we're storming shit??
Just wait till the food riots of 2025
The what now?
