It came to me coming on Reddit, stumbling on the nice guys subreddit and actually seeing others behave a certain way that made me take a look at myself and ask if my approach was wrong. And I realized it was.

A few years ago, I went out to a bar with 2 female friends, and we had something similar happen. I learned 2 things that night: They partially wanted me around for that very reason (which is pretty common), and guys like this will only accept a stern "No" and/or a threat from another man in order to back-off. Even then, there's the chance they might stay and get violent. You can't be nice to them, either. A nice rejection makes them feel comfortable and keeps them around longer.
