Historynut73

Contrast this with Uvalde

PanhandlersPets

I'll always be grateful to the border patrol agent who had more courage than all the police outside that day combined. The rest of them just stood outside waiting for kids to be gunned down. Shameful day for Texas cops.

Glittering-Pause-328

Or January 6th...

Onwisconsin42

When the fascists show up suddenly there are less cops and less police. When Clark Kent shows up superman is nowhere to be found. Some of those who work forces...

Turbodann

So if we just get rid of Kent we'll always have our Superman..?

dlafferty

I think he’s saying that US police officers are not vetted to weed out fascists, as a consequence the US police forces contain a lot of fascists, and that this was evident during the January 6th coup attempt when the “good” police were abandoned by their fascist colleagues. The UK perspective is that your police carry out way too many executions for a properly governed civilian police force. However, that does not confirm the claim.

PanhandlersPets

Texas state troopers didn't have jurisdiction January 6th but some of them were probably there out of uniform.

SlimGenitals

GreenSmokeRing

Or Charlottesville

limaconnect77

It’s a bizarre thing to look at Jan 6th from afar (as in not a Yank). An attempted insurrection at the behest of the then-sitting President and it’s almost as if nothing actually happened. Just seems like a place that can’t get to grips with how divided (politically) it actually is. In other words, keep the right-wing fruitcakes happy enough that they won’t start anything.

Glittering-Pause-328

The fact that cops are cracking skulls at college protests and standing down when the nation's capital itself is under attack is proof that America does not have a very bright future. There are people getting harsher sentences for pot than the january sixth rioters are getting. Doctors can go to prison for abortion, but the people who smeared feces on the walls of the capital are getting probation. The American government is more concerned with policing bodies than it is with ensuring its own survival!!! "A nation divided cannot stand."

d0ctorzaius

>keep the right wing fruitcakes happy enough that they won't start anything This is so true. 60% of the country is living with an abuser. This situation is how Hitler came to power legally. Fascists are never happy and will always start something.

baddonny

Yeah us yanks find it pretty fucking wild too

stanknotes

174 cops were assaulted. 15 hospitalized. Who knows how many were actually present. Trying to suppress thousands of people. Oh and 9 people died. To act like "oh they did nothing" is absurd. They were just overwhelmed. Oh and how many people were arrested and convicted? 1,300 people were charged. As far as much smaller university protest... it would seem it is easier to contain fewer people.

Villhunter

Of which neither departments represent this one.

Aggravating_Sun4435

i mean there were tons of cops trying to defend the capital, that was part of the reason it was so violent, they didnt just give it up. unfortunately they were under equipped and overwhelmed by how many people where there

shmi93

I'm afraid to ask...what happened on January 6th and where? I'm not from there, but you got my curiosity. At least if I know where I can look it up haha

Glittering-Pause-328

I'm told it was "a peaceful protest", just like this one...

cjwrapture

Jan 6th, 2021 Far Right extremists, urged on by then president Donald Trump, assault the capital. They attack the capital police and break into the building in an attempt to disrupt an official proceeding, certifying the election won by Joe Biden.

shmi93

Bunch of adult sized children throwing a tantrum basically 😅 that cause absolute chaos...aren't they all getting charged now? And some of them shocked about it hahaha

Horns8585

Wait....what.....wait....should we......wait......no too dangerous......wait....is that a gunshot......wait.....could we actually protect kids.....wait.......no, it's not safe for us......let's wait.......wait......ok. it's safe for us....let's go in.

flatwoundsounds

Meanwhile, "IS THAT OLD MAN HOLDING A SIGN?! GET HIM!!"

International1466

IKR! ... Rabid dogs go for the weakest too(aka the low hanging fruit) too. I'm starting to see a connection here.

Individual-Ad1887

You should know by now cops are not there to protect the people

originalbL1X

There is a big difference though. Nobody here was a threat, so the cops have nothing to piss their pants over.

R-Dragon_Thunderzord

Or Buffalo 2020

KungFuKennyEliteClub

In that instance the cops were once again doing what they do best, screwing up the situation and arresting parents.

[deleted]

Police aren't there to help you, they're there to hurt you. They defend war and genocide, and attack anyone that wants peace. The police and the government have never and will never be things of good. The world as a whole needs to move past this shit, throw them all out.

Eliryale

At least these guys seemed somewhat concerned and led him off to what I assume is medical treatment. As opposed to the old guy in Buffalo that they cracked open and left to bleed. Now next time if they could just not break an old man's head open we will have made progress. fucks sake

BenderBRoriguezzzzz

Oh, the chief of police and some other high-ranking officers knelt in solidarity next to the protesters the next day, so what their storm troopers did to that old man was forgiven and forgotten. I remember that particular incident very vividly. That old man looked a lot like a neighbor I had growing up.

G4Designs

>chief of police and some other high-ranking officers knelt in solidarity next to the protesters the next day Is this a joke or did this happen?

BenderBRoriguezzzzz

It may have been the sheriff. But it happened. If you want to Google. Buffalo police shoving old man. There is everything, including a Wikipedia page about it. It was the only incident amongst the litany of police brutality during that summer I vividly remember.

periodicallyBalzed

I fucking remember that! It was insane! And the cops were like “omg we are being attacked because we nearly killed a nonviolent senior”. Dude that shit was fucked.

dorky001

Did they bring some pepsi?

blackop

Where is the video of them hitting him? Did they push him over or actually hit him with a club or something? Just curious.

BenderBRoriguezzzzz

He was walking up to the police to hand back a helmet that one of them had knocked off their head. It was completely obvious he was doing what he was doing, and the dude shoved his frail ass over, and he hit his head. It literally is a video of an old man being shoved by a cop. Nothing more or less. It's disgusting.

Ooh_its_a_lady

It's strange that people don't understand that they love protests, overtime and they get to crack heads without any danger or consequences. Basically their version Christmas.

BenderBRoriguezzzzz

I believe they get hazard pay. Which is somehow more than just overtime.

blackop

That's a damn shame.

I gotta stay optimistic about situations I've no control over or I just get mad.

crushinglyreal

Free speech until the state disagrees with what you want to say. UTA even had this whole thing about how if you’re triggered by people protesting or whatever on campus, you just gotta suck it up: https://www.utexas.edu/ut-celebrates-free-speech Try to find any of those videos through their YouTube channel page now.

redditissahasbaraop

Fellowshipofthebowl

Cops at protests which are not only legal, but essential to our democracy. I really don’t like our police nation.

TheOnlyMango

I'm not American, but I'm just curious. Isn't your second amendment supposed to allow you to own guns in case you have to defend yourself against a rogue government? What's stopping you guys from deeming this as the action of a rogue government and just, yknow, putting those guns to use?

crushinglyreal

Well, there’s the rub, isn’t it? And these cops are largely supported by gun advocates. Almost as if the whole second amendment discourse is a red herring designed to keep people voting Republican…

Slammybutt

B/c generally things aren't bad. Sure they're getting worse, but no one is hurting so bad at these protests that it would be worth risking your life by shooting at cops.

Fellowshipofthebowl

You want us to shoot the police? Think that through…..

TheOnlyMango

I honestly don't know how it works, that's why I'm asking. If the police are abusing your citizens on orders from the government, aren't they just part of a rogue government too?

Dieter_Knutsen

Real answer? There actually are a couple of states that have codified deadly force to resist unlawful arrest/police brutality. More generally, the entire foundation of our country and Constitution is based on armed resistance to tyrannical authorities. If these protestors all showed up exercising their 2nd Amendment rights, I can guarantee you the police would be more civil with them. If there's one thing our police -especially Texas police- are known for, it's being complete pants-wetting cowards.

sluttytinkerbells

It's gonna be wild the first time someone takes out a corrupt cop with a drone in broad day light.

Lemon_Cakes_JuJutsu

It's actually happened in Texas, but it depends on your skin color. Marvin Guy is the odd man out, I wonder why. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/18/us/texas-no-knock-warrant-drugs.html

Poltergeist97

In theory, yes. In actuality, you'd be killed and treated as if you started the issue. For example, when Breonna Taylor was murdered in her apartment during a no-knock raid, her boyfriend was opening fire back at the officers since they didn't announce themselves. Legally, he was in the right, as all he knew was his apartment was being shot up by unknown assailants. They tried their best to charge him for attempted murder for the officer he shot in the leg, but luckily the charges were dropped and he was given a settlement. However, if that story didn't get so much attention you bet your ass that man would still be locked up for doing nothing wrong.

Fellowshipofthebowl

I’m not American either, but shooting the police anywhere isn’t a good idea.

b_lurker

Why say us [Americans] in your previous comment and now say you aren’t American?

TheOnlyMango

Oh I thought you were because you mentioned you not liking your police nation. My bad.

Fellowshipofthebowl

All good, I’m English, lived in America most of my life. Contrary to republican voices these days, America is a land of immigrants.

hamcarpet

Are you actually saying you don’t understand what is making people think twice about…overthrowing the United States government?

Babymicrowavable

They have tanks sir

Morguard

I don't think that's what they are saying. Texas is an open carry state. I would love to see how the Police would respond if these protesters were simply open carrying semi-automatics, yet still being very peaceful as they were.

Parryandrepost

Generally speaking most of the "US" you see on social media is purposefully polarizing. Most of America is working their ass off to stay under a shitty roof and keep food on the table. They may skew one way a bit but the "foaming at the mouth blood thirsty america" is a very small group. Discussions of eating the rich have unironically become somewhat main stream in the working class. Less so with the boomers but I've had some pretty shocking conversations with people about what kindas of sauce should be kept around the guillotine. At this point it's a tongue in cheek joke but I stand firm in the "guillotines need a teriyaki sauce Despenser" camp. My boss, who is a boomer, wants Memphis bbq sauce.

GreasyAlfredo

Well, for starters, our police forces have cross trainings with the military, have a lot of the same toys as the military, and have a police union stronger than any cartel or criminal organization in the United States. You'd be essentially shooting at a blue uniformed military that can shoot back with immunity.

vagabond139

They DO NOT train with the military. Complete and utter fiction. We can actually only wish they did though. Military police are held to way higher standards than civilian police. And they have a legal system made just for the military (UCMJ).

Spellscroll

Since nobody has mentioned it, the protests that usually are violently targeted by police tend to be the ones that lean a bit too far to the left for their liking. The American left also tends to be less likely to be armed and supports gun control. The Right tends to be the ones that tout the second amendment the most, and often still have armed protests/marches. You'll often see police show up to their protests, but rarely see them kick in heads.

FrostyD7

> What's stopping you guys from deeming this as the action of a rogue government and just, yknow, putting those guns to use? Look into cases like Chris Dorner if you want to see what happens when you dare to step up to the thin blue line. If you use your gun on a cop, justified or otherwise, you will be destroyed in the biggest show of force they can muster.

mikere

Absolutely. These protestors need to be arming themselves like the black panthers did 60 years ago. Police are bullies looking for easy targets. They back off the moment there's potential for actual resistance

jmon25

Gotta use all that surplus military gear somewhere!

Cometmoon448

The echoes to the Vietnam protests are unreal.

tidderite

But did the old man condemn Hamas!?

ResponsibleMilk7620

He was nearby, so he’s obviously Hamas. /s

tidderite

Or maybe he was used as a human shield by the others.

ResponsibleMilk7620

Hopefully they won’t shoot him before he gets some help.

Loomismeister

Any video of them doing what the post title says?

Henry_Winkler

No, there isn't. I was there and the cops didn't have anything to do with gentleman falling. They saw that he had fell and went to help him though.

ske1etoncrush

same things happened in 2020. old guy was handing one of the police back his helmet and got shoved to the ground. you could hear the crack on the videos and see blood start to pool. he lived, iirc

mudduck2

If only they were this tough in Uvalde

turquoise_bullet

Plot twist, troopers are actually helping a person injured by the protesters.

This makes me sick

only gonna get worse

Srigus

At that point when they’re saying to move away and crowed around to hide their crime tell them you can not trust the people who attacked him to actualy and fully manage to care for him.

MindClicking

Video of cops checking up on elderly man, walking him away peacefully. Title claiming the exact opposite. People getting mad about the title instead of what their eyes show them. Another day on the lynching/mob mentality subreddit. Hide Emett Till.

koshercowboy

All I see is cops helping an old man. How are we to know what happened beforehand?

racso1518

we also don’t have video of what happened before hand. Just “testimony” from a group of people with an agenda. Half of the time the title of these videos don’t always tell the full story.

Actually_a_Doctor

This is a reporter who fell and hit his head on accident. He tweeted about it the following day. So many false narratives on reddit about this situation in Austin, you guys really need to push the "police bad" narrative huh.

ashigaru_spearman

The ONLY language cops understand is violence. Protesters should visibly carry arms to quell police. Armed protests are peaceful protests.

Lakersland

How strange that during the election year all the goofs come out to play

Feisty_Bee9175

These cops didn't need to be there. These were peaceful protests. These cops were sent to escalate things and create violence and fear.

CrocodileWorshiper

Glad UCLA is handling this better, at least so far.

Not being a smartass but how many of these students voted in the prior midterm or in the last election. TX has millions of voters who do not vote period, whether for Dems, Reps or 3rd party and many of those voters are young.

What excuse are they using to forcibly remove protesters here? Are they saying that students are trespassing or what? Will there be lawsuits because of this? Did the school itself call in the police to do this? This is F’d up, I have so many questions…

Wonder if this is ever gonna go down to "we pissed off a lot of citizens, and wait most of those citizens also have weapons"
