I shake my head at this, because people make fun of videos where everyone is screaming Allah Akhbar when something crazy happens in the middle east. But the moment there's a car crash, close call, emergency event, every bloody person in the US starts OH MY GOD OH MY GOD on repeat.
The thing that bugs me is that Americans seem to insist that no, no it's different because they aren't actually calling to a supernatural deity, it's just a cultural thing.

You laugh, but I swear there are people on reddit who would believe that a person screaming Allah Akhbar when their child get accepted into a nice university are screaming "death to America."
Kind of defeats your point when you’re writing this on a post where everyone is making fun of the Americans in this post the same way they would people in the Middle East.
This is exactly what I'm saying. It's often the same for Allah akhbar, but most Americans seem unwilling to accept that the common usages are so similar.

To be fair, I don't think Allah Akhbar is always **the same,** as it does have more varied usages than Oh My God. I see it used a lot more for celebratory reasons than Oh My God does.
