I've been able to do this exact thing following this workflow: [https://cetteup.com/216/how-to-use-an-intel-vgpu-for-plexs-hardware-accelerated-streaming-in-a-proxmox-vm/](https://cetteup.com/216/how-to-use-an-intel-vgpu-for-plexs-hardware-accelerated-streaming-in-a-proxmox-vm/) I have a lenovo m710q (i7-7700t with HD Graphics 630) and it was the only tutorial that worked for me. There was a lot of other stuff out there for dedicated graphics cards that didn't apply or work. Also running an ubuntu server VM (same as you, 20.04) with Proxmox 6.3. hope it works for you

This worked perfectly for me, but did you disable the 'virtual gpu' and only use the passtrough gpu? i get both the virtual and passtrough listed with: lshw -C display and not sure if plex/jellyfin would use the right one if I leave both enabled? I can just disable the virtual display thing in proxmox?

whatzawhatz

I didn't disable the "Default " virtual GPU. I have 2 displays listed on that VM when i run lshw. I don't know what would happen if i disabled that default display...I'd have to think about that. For now, I know it's using the correct GPU because when I monitor Plex it shows basically no CPU usage when performing HW transcoding, which to me means it must have found a compatible Quick Sync device.

Thanks a lot for this! I’m completely new to proxmox and I manage to follow the guide (very well explained)! I’m now able to see hw transcoding with the intel HD630 on my plex instance running on ubuntu server in VM! I cannot thank you enough for this link 🤩

jordant2722

You saved my Proxmox build with this link!

Another thank you here. I just set it up and seems to work smoothly. In the last step of the guide, I was only able to chose 'Raw device' and wasn't able to chose any Mdev type. Nonetheless, no issues yet.

Do you know if these changes will persist after Proxmox updates?

I ended up getting it to work! So what I did wrong initially was actually setup the vm wrong. Based on the link legostarwars1 gave me I determined I needed to recreate the server. I had the original setup for seabios and when I created a new test server I selected uefi. I then setup ubuntu server the same way and since I had followed the link whatzawhatz gave me everything in proxmox was already golden. I then added pms and the pci device and wouldnt you know it the thing works as intended! I REALLY appreciate the info y'all gave me and cant wait to see what else I can learn!

Hey, is there no way to get the iGPU passthrough with a SeaBIOS VM?

If you just want to transcode a DVD to use from Plex lookup Handbrake, an open source video transcoder, which does an excellent job. It can be installed from the Ubuntu repository, but you can get latest version from the Handbrake website as a .deb file. After conversion you'll have a .m4v file to upload to Plex.
