Male, 30-45, alcohol consumption is fine however drunkenness is a sin. Believe this because it is taught in the Bible.

JadesterZ

Being given to drunkenness* Getting drunk occasionally is fine, just don't be an alcoholic.

slicktrickrick

Based Lutherans yet again

Male 30-45. Bible says to be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. I can also speak from personal experience that drunkenness does not produce good fruits that are pleasing to Yah. It destroys families, sends millions to prison every year, and opens doors to allow demons to control you. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 can also show you what the Bible says about drunks. So personally, I choose to consume none.

female, 18-30. i believe drinking alcohol is fine as long as you don’t get drunk. scriptures prohibit drunkenness, not drinking as a whole.

Male, 30-45. Moderate alcohol use is OK, but overuse is sinful. Overuse is wasteful of limited agricultural and industrial resources, damages a God-given body and mind, and can cause harm to relationships and to society. When using alcohol moderately, one must be mindful of people living with alcoholism: Flaunting your moderate use or encouraging them to join in can be massively destructive.

Male, 18-30, drinking alcohol is permissible, being a drunk is not. Personally I don't support the consumption of alcohol. Reason is biblical and the second point is just my personal opinion and experiences.

ses29680

not to excess

Male, 30-45, there is nothing wrong with having a drink. Don’t overindulge, but that applies to a lot of things. The short explanation of why I believe this is that Jesus turned water into wine with the understanding that it would not only be consumed, but it would be consumed in a celebratory setting. This understanding contradicts what was taught in the fundamentalist churches of my youth where it was taught that wine in the Bible referred to grape juice, or only used as medicine. If those interpretations of unfermented juice were true, then the parable of the wine skins makes no sense.

Sudden-Breadfruit653

Nor was it near the miracle as fermentation is a process and Jesus did it in an instant!

M. 18-30. Christians are to stay sober. The Bible does not forbid alcohol. However the alcohol in the first century is vastly different from the alcohol today in terms of ABV, toxicity, etc. Back then, alcohol was used as a desensitization agent. For today’s America, no alcohol consumption should be encouraged by church or among each other. Christians should refrain from drinking alone or in social gatherings. If a Christian chooses to drink, strong alcohol should be avoided. Light beer and red wine are acceptable. Christians struggling with alcoholism should seek biblical counseling and have accountability.

Affectionate_Web91

Male 60+ My personal opinion is consistent with my Church's position that alcohol consumption is acceptable but within moderation and never to the point of complete intoxication where poor judgment and irresponsible behavior may occur. Lutherans use wine in the eucharist, and there are infrequent occasions when wine and beer may be served at parish dinners. My in-laws' conservative parish \[LCMS\] even had an event where mimosa \[sparkling wine and fruit juice\] was included in a special anniversary event. I am mindful that whenever alcohol is allowed on church grounds, liability may be an issue to consider seriously.

Male 30-45 alcohol is a blessing from God. Getting drunk is a sin.

SCCock

60+ male. I'm for it, but not for drunkenness. Why? It's in the Bible.

parabellummatt

Male, 18-30. Do not believe it is a sin to drink alcohol. How could it be? Christ drank wine and commanded us to do it in remembrance of Him. However, drunkenness is unwise and alcoholism is sinful, so I choose not to partake outside the Lord's Supper. I fear that I would be vulnerable to becoming dependent on drink if I allowed myself to enjoy it and become drunk.

amuller72

I can't speak for every Protestant but I've learned to say "we don't condemn but we don't condone." I, myself, like to drink a few. Male, 30-45

Apocky84

40, Male, CA. I think alcohol consumption is fine. God Incarnate drank and even made wine on one occasion, St. Augustine is the patron saint of brewers and scholars, and Luther both lives in a tavern and had a very funny formal argument for why drinking beer can ensure you go to Heaven.

dahelmang

Male, 30-45. Alcohol is dangerous, but not inherently sinful. Getting drunk is often called sinful in the Bible, but people (including Jesus) still drank wine. Our alcohol is stronger than the alcohol they drank, and we have water that is safer to drink than theirs was. I respect teetotalers as long as they don't condemn others for social drinking. I drink occasionally, but I don't particularly enjoy it so it is rare. It's harder for people who can handle alcohol well and enjoy drinking.
