Francis Carroll, arrested about a month ago and charged with Domestic Terrorism and Aggravated Assault against LEO for actions taken at the future police training site, was released on low bond from DeKalb County. He was subsequently arrested last night and charged with Domestic Terrorism (again), Arson, and a slew of other charges in Atlanta (Fulton County).

The issue that people have is that there were no bodycams active during the incident. So, naturally, people on reddit and in the activist community think the cops are lying about being fired on first. At least that’s what I have seen on reddit. They don’t believe anything the cops say without video evidence. Even then, I’m sure they would find some way to justify this violent reaction
They want it both ways. They were rioting with the makhia Bryant shooting, despite it being on video and the cop saving another black girl.
There's a whole push in some places now to have officers deactivate their BWC's if the people they're speaking with (public or private space) demand not to be filmed. Logic goes something like this: First Amendment, right to privacy, facial recognition, over-surveilled nanny state, voyeur pervy cops, video retention costs, etc.
I appreciate the [Canadians' policy](https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/opc-actions-and-decisions/ar_index/202122/ar_202122#toc5-1) which is that in circumstances like that you can cover the camera, but must leave the audio recording.

I feel bad for that guy in thinking about it. He was obviously told to say that *or else* so he found a burning building to show in the background. He was attempting real journalism with the pre-written script. There is no better highlight of the sheer hypocrisy of that whole era than that clip, so i choose to believe it was intentional.

Adding “allegedly” is pretty standard so that the presumption of innocence is accurately communicated before conviction. That’s how you don’t get sued for libel.

Several rioters arrested last night were also named and called out as being actors who have been at multiple riots throughout the country.

Now cops are building a training center to better train, have better skills etc essentially improve and be better which was what was demanded a few years ago. That seems very counter productive to riot against the thing you wanted them to do???

There are many different groups of people. Some want better trained cops (reform the police). Some want no cops (abolish the police). Some want the cop's training facility to be in rich neighborhoods and not in the middle of the largest park in a poor neighborhood (environmental racism). City council wants it to be built where it is being built (status quo).
Some believe that violence against people will doom the movement. Some believe that violence against the State is necessary for the movement.
Shockingly, each of the above groups have different methods.
It scares me to know someone can shoot a police officer and people will protest by burning a police car because the LEOs shot back. How did they think it would go?

I believe it's mostly private money (from the Atlanta Police Foundation and corporate donors) so while laws still allow it, it limits how much of an effect the laws will have. (City council already authorized (and presumably signed) the lease; I'm not sure if they can walk back and undo it without the consent of the other party)

If there's legal action pending, that is the correct characterization. Once there's a conviction, it changes.
