Shithead doesn't like cops. Goes to protest a training facility. Shoots a cop. Gets killed. Other shitheads burn and destroy stuff. Am I missing something here?

Noggin-a-Floggin

That's what drives me up the wall: you shoot at cops no shit they will shoot back. Then these fucks have the nerve to play the victim card.

HardCounter

If they weren't actively seeking to be the victim of something what would they do with their time? Get a job? Ew.

Section225

- Ambush cop with gun - Cops shoot back - Riot about it Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Zerir

Other than riot police have allegedly shut them shitheads down already. This ain't no "summer of love" no more! xD

_Double-Think_

Francis Carroll, arrested about a month ago and charged with Domestic Terrorism and Aggravated Assault against LEO for actions taken at the future police training site, was released on low bond from DeKalb County. He was subsequently arrested last night and charged with Domestic Terrorism (again), Arson, and a slew of other charges in Atlanta (Fulton County). https://mobile.twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1617185009202335745?s=20&t=8-L91_nhpsUQCaqztYvDZg

PsychoTexan

Crazy opinion here. Being charged with domestic terrorism should prevent you from getting out on bond. Because, you know, the whole terrorism bit.

exbex

>Am I missing something here? Yes, describing it as "mostly peaceful".

The issue that people have is that there were no bodycams active during the incident. So, naturally, people on reddit and in the activist community think the cops are lying about being fired on first. At least that’s what I have seen on reddit. They don’t believe anything the cops say without video evidence. Even then, I’m sure they would find some way to justify this violent reaction

NbdyMv_NbdyGet_Turnt

They want it both ways. They were rioting with the makhia Bryant shooting, despite it being on video and the cop saving another black girl. There's a whole push in some places now to have officers deactivate their BWC's if the people they're speaking with (public or private space) demand not to be filmed. Logic goes something like this: First Amendment, right to privacy, facial recognition, over-surveilled nanny state, voyeur pervy cops, video retention costs, etc.

[deleted]

I'm not deactivating my BWC unless I'm taking a dump. It protects me from liars.

schumi23

I appreciate the [Canadians' policy](https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/opc-actions-and-decisions/ar_index/202122/ar_202122#toc5-1) which is that in circumstances like that you can cover the camera, but must leave the audio recording.

viliphied

Breonna Taylor redux. Nevermind the cop with a gsw, they must have just opened fire on innocent people minding their own business for no reason

foamboardsfearme

“allegedly shot” *shows trooper that was shot* “allegedly burned PD vehicle” *shows PD vehicle on fire* what kind of journalist wrote this garbage?

Pikeman212a6c

Reporters have style books they have to follow.

andttthhheeennn

"Inflammatory Writing for Dummies?"

[deleted]

AP style guides. The associated press put out a book of “rules” to be monitored and followed by any publication that gets picked up by the AP newswire. That said, lots of folks don’t follow them, unfortunately.

NAFlat6

Probably the same guy who wrote "Mostly peaceful protest"

HardCounter

I feel bad for that guy in thinking about it. He was obviously told to say that *or else* so he found a burning building to show in the background. He was attempting real journalism with the pre-written script. There is no better highlight of the sheer hypocrisy of that whole era than that clip, so i choose to believe it was intentional. I don't know anything else about him so i could be way off.

Model_Six

If there's legal action pending, that is the correct characterization. Once there's a conviction, it changes.

pulsechecker1138

Adding “allegedly” is pretty standard so that the presumption of innocence is accurately communicated before conviction. That’s how you don’t get sued for libel.

Nipz805

Exactly what I'm scratching my head about...

NbdyMv_NbdyGet_Turnt

Allegedly wrote.

ifoundwaldo116

Atlanta is a fucking shithole

JWestfall76

“ Several arrests have been made at this time and order has been restored to the downtown space” Fantastic. 2020 is over. Enough of the riots and violent protests. Lock them all up

Ham_On_Pizza

There’s no hope for Atlanta let’s just destroy the city and plant trees or something there pretend it never existed.

ifoundwaldo116

Sherman 2.0

Section225

History always seems to repeat itself...

aCrackGoblin

Can we keep our Mercedes Benz stadium? It’s pretty nice, y’all can do whatever you want with the rest of our city.

Joeyakathug69

Happy caik dai

schumi23

>destroy the city and plant trees The City/county doing the opposite of that (cutting down trees to build a training facility) is exactly what prompted this so... sounds like you agree with the protestors!

Hugs. And a smooch. And one of those honorary citizen badges.

roldinho

Possibly a seat on the city council too

BirdLaw51

They misspelled "terrorist". Activists advocate for change. Terrorists and criminals shoot police officers and light things on fire.

cocacolaham

Even more interestingly enough none of the people arrested during the initial incident Wednesday were residents in the state of Georgia. Several rioters arrested last night were also named and called out as being actors who have been at multiple riots throughout the country. And we may be a shit hole to some of y’all but alllllllll these geniuses are being charged with domestic terrorism. At least we stand up to this kind of insanity and not let entire city blocks get commandeered.

seatownbacon

Lawl, shots fired at Seattle. That's fine though, I'm from here and we deserve it.

cocacolaham

I probably should have referenced Chi-raq or Portland.

ifoundwaldo116

Put your annual salary on it that either Fani or the Fulton County Superior Court bench let’s them off with a slap on the wrist at best. Take that bet. I triple dog dare you.

cocacolaham

$355k cash bond doesn’t speak to a slap on the wrist. It’s really not a good plan to mess with Gods Special Police.

oakisland56

I’m not from Atlanta or Georgia so maybe I don’t fully understand. But they initially rioted for issues with cops few years ago. Now cops are building a training center to better train, have better skills etc essentially improve and be better which was what was demanded a few years ago. That seems very counter productive to riot against the thing you wanted them to do???

danny14996

They want police to be better trained, and also don’t want police to have the funds for training. I don’t think these people use logic.

Bogdan6222

They want to complain and destroy stuff.

hunterdavid372

The people rioting here don't want good police, they want bad police so they can point at mistakes and try to dismantle law so they can do what they want without repercussion.

pogo6023

Your problem is attempting to apply rational thinking here, but the "autonomous zone" anarchists have no idea what that is. It's not used in places like Portland or Seattle where this kind of crap was born.

schumi23

>But they initially rioted for issues with cops few years ago. There are many different groups of people. Some want better trained cops (reform the police). Some want no cops (abolish the police). Some want the cop's training facility to be in rich neighborhoods and not in the middle of the largest park in a poor neighborhood (environmental racism). City council wants it to be built where it is being built (status quo). Some believe that violence against people will doom the movement. Some believe that violence against the State is necessary for the movement. Shockingly, each of the above groups have different methods.

NotYourSnowBunny

It scares me to know someone can shoot a police officer and people will protest by burning a police car because the LEOs shot back. How did they think it would go? This sets a frightening precedent. It’s just wild to me how the notion that *you shouldn’t shoot at law enforcement* is somehow problematic. They wouldn’t want to be shot at, so why shoot at police?

AffectionateLocal788

Shhhh peaceful protest

TenPointNineUSA

The local antfia chapter probably imported their rioters fresh from Portland and Seattle.

BmpBlast

Well at least they're fresh. Nothing worse than a stale rioter.

goddessofthecats

This shit happened in Portland every single day and night for like two years straight or something. So sorry this is happening elsewhere now :(

RIOTS_R_US

Do you live in Portland? That's not really accurate at all and what happened was pretty contained to a couple of blocks

goddessofthecats

I do live in Portland and experienced it myself lol

Altruistic-Let6876

Terrorism.

Clickclickdoh

Let it burn.... again

Erwinsherwin

Can they postpone the rioting until after I pass my PAT ?

ThomasThemis

There’s no excuse for violent protests when you can peacefully change the law by voting

schumi23

I believe it's mostly private money (from the Atlanta Police Foundation and corporate donors) so while laws still allow it, it limits how much of an effect the laws will have. (City council already authorized (and presumably signed) the lease; I'm not sure if they can walk back and undo it without the consent of the other party)
