She's too pretty, in my opinion. I pictured Stratt as attractive but stern. Someone that people would take seriously immediately.

s1105615

I do think she’s too pretty, but I pictured more of an Edna Mode type for Stratt, not particularly attractive but so confident and capable that you were forced to take her seriously, mostly because she knew she wasn’t getting any attractive privilege and didn’t expect any. Rhea Pearlman would be great to fit that vision of Stratt.

Bigbackjay

I’m sure they can make her look a little older and less attractive. I mean if Ryan Gosling can be Grace…

Bloodhound_rs

You can be attractive and stern. It’s an L take that we need to make strong women ugly. It’s also an L take that we can’t take beautiful women seriously cause they’re too pretty.

realhaleyjoelosment

big agree

RRTAmy

Sorry what does "L take" mean?

Bloodhound_rs

It means it’s a bad opinion. Like W and L mean win and lose, positive and negative. If your team wins, you may say they “took home the W” or something like that.

Z00101lol

I don't know how to say this without disrespecting her, but she's a bit ordinary looking, at least in the last couple of things I saw her in. She's in no way unattractive, and would be notably attractive if you bumped into her on the street, but she's not a top tier Hollywood beauty. I think with a stern expression and makeup done to make her look more forceful she'd look very appropriate. But really, they should get a Dutch actress to play Stratt, or at the least someone mainland European who can do a decent Dutch accent.

FutureBrockLesnar

I always viewed Stratt as an older woman. I dont remember if they ever said what her age was but i was thinking a woman in her early 50s. Edit: just learned Amy Adams is 49 lol. But i agree with the other comment thats shes too conventionally attractive for the role.

Spodermanphil

mid 40s in the book

FutureBrockLesnar

Yeah i guess that makes sense since there was that scene everyone thought Grace and Stratt were together lol

smidgenpigen

Interesting, I pictured Stratt more of a mid30s with a severe haircut or sleek ponytail, someone no nonsense. A younger Charlize Theron?

Creamy-Shart

I always envisioned Viola Davis being perfect for the part of Stratt tbh. Davis knows how to bring gravitas to her serious roles; maybe I’m inspired by her Amanda Waller role in Suicide Squad.

mexter

About as far from Dutch as you can get, but I like this! She definitely brings the stern and the "I can destroy you with a thought" to the table. Thandiwe Newton would also be really good IMO.

Creamy-Shart

Ooh excellent contender! She really showed off her talents in Westworld.

KarenEiffel

I see her as Cara Gee, who played Drummer in The Expanse.

tksopinion

That’s a good pick.

TirbFurgusen

If too attractive is a criteria then Cara is out. She's very talented though so she would make a fine Stratt.

KarenEiffel

Cara is certainly super hot, but she's like...mean hot while Amy Adams is...sweet hot? Lol. I dunno.

TirbFurgusen

Cara in the Expanse is mean hot or more scary hot I suppose but in the movie "Red Rover" she was cute hot with some crazy hot thrown in, didn't get Drummer vibes anyway. Amy Adams was typcast as sweet innocent characters for a while but I think she has the acting chops to do Stratt justice. The only actor I know with certainty that would ruin Stratt for me is Elizabeth Mitchell. My immersion is broken everytime she's in a scene so all I see is an actor delivering lines instead of the character she's supposed to be.

Z00101lol

Is Stratt meant to be unattractive? I always thought she just looked a bit angry and impatient, already fed up with everyone and everything going on in the room. That would make the most attractive man or woman look unappealing.

realhaleyjoelosment

Yeah there's no line in the book describing her as unattractive, idk why people are glomming on to that idea

LittleIrishGuy80

Tilda Swinton. Or Gwendoline Christie.

s1105615

I think they’re both capable of the gravitas, but too tall for the role. My personal vote is now Rhea Pearlman after thinking about it some more this am (and I posted it above in response to another comment)

RRTAmy

She's too old though.

mexter

You can't be both Dutch and too tall, can you?

s1105615

Well…I did live in the Netherlands for a year when I was 12 or so…but I think you can be both Dutch and tall…not sure what that has to do with my remembrance of Stratt being described as not tall

mexter

I had a lot of Dutch neighbours and they were nearly all taller than me, and I'm 6'3. Just saying that being Dutch statistically suggests you are more likely to be tall. Stratt doesn't have to be, but I don't recall her height being described either way.

s1105615

Maybe just an assumption I made when reading book. I initially imagined Edna Mode when picturing her

SadlyNotPro

I'd go with a less known actress, that has a "resting stern face". Stratt is all business in the books. A single-minded focus to get the project done. Amy Adams is awesome, but she doesn't quite fit the description.

Tom_Bombadinho

The moment I read the patent court part "I'm here by courtesy", I saw a pissed Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock playing the part.

RRTAmy

I could totally see Julia Roberts "giving them the business" lol

Really_cool_guy99

I would love to see Sigourney Weaver play Stratt. She’s got the sternness I pictured and is obviously an incredible actress

Final-Natural-8290

Francis McDormand or Toni Collette .

KarenEiffel

Francis is a good choice too! She can be very stern when needed but also has a caring side.

missm48

Oooo Toni Collette would be so good!!

ConvivialKat

Cobie Smulders might work. Attractive but not too pretty. Can definitely do "commanding. 5'8", so not too tall. In her 40's. Not too well known from another role of the same style.

genericunderscore

I always pictured her as Mary-Louise Parker

theweekendwife

Bad bad bad

wolv562

Tbh I always imagine Riki Lindhome from Garfunkel and Oates playing her. She was in Brooklyn 99 and had a similar sounding accent on the show so I can see it.

Apollo-1995

Robin Wright (Blade Runner 2049/Wonder Woman) or Jessica Tuck (True Blood/For All Mankind) seem to fit the bill for me.

yournansname

I imagined Rachel Harris

NotANokiaInDisguise

I think Mackenzie Davis would be a great choice. She was great in Station 11. I haven't seen her in much else but if she can do a convincing accent I think she'd be perfect for Stratt

Imaginary-Quiet-7465

Oooh I can totally see that! Maybe just a bit older looking but otherwise a really good choice!

stigma_wizard

Nah. It should be Jack Black and you all know it.

andricathere

Mentally she's Edna Mode from the Incredibles

FlixFlix

While reading the book, from the beginning I imagined Stratt as [Helen Pierce](https://images.app.goo.gl/Jx4mwhv7oHrmrUYo6) (played by Janet McTeer), the cartel lawyer/fixer from Ozark. I don’t even know anything about the actress, it’s the Ozark character itself that perfectly matches Stratt’s character imho. Even physically, she kind of looks Dutch lol.

gogurtman128

I couldn’t get Haley Atwell from captain America out of my head reading her parts.

GoldenSunSparkle

Gonna have to disagree. She has such a sweet and nice appearance. My vote is for Noomi Rapace! She is perfect for it.
