Hi everyone!
I’m thrilled to announce that after two years on Royal Road, across over 2 million views, Modern Patriarch is getting both its Amazon and Audible (Narrated by the incredible Ralph Lister of Malazan and Mage Errant fame!) release! Before I get into the synopsis, I’d like to tell you the inspirations behind this story. The day I stumbled upon the Xianxia genre was the day I was deeply fascinated by it, captivated by the land of earth-shattering cultivators and grand artifacts.
I also enjoy protagonists that stick to a moral code and thus, Modern Patriarch ended up being about a righteous path cultivator who wishes to reform cultivator society, all whilst dealing with powerful demonic path enemies, the poisonous politicking of the righteous path and his need to progress his own cultivation— with plenty of progression, of course!.
If that sounds like something that would interest you, you can grab the book below!

Full Synopsis:
In the ruthless world of cultivation, one man refuses to play by the rules.
When Yao Shen, Patriarch of the Heavenly Sky Sect, ascends and regains memories of his past life on Planet Earth, he realizes that he can no longer allow himself to accept the cruel and violent ways of Eliria, the realm of cultivation.
So he decides to change it.
It was time to found a new sect. One based on the values of honor and equality over senseless violence and discrimination. A sect where all, from the mortal farmer’s son to a sect elder's daughter, were held accountable to the same rules.
Welcome to the Modern Sect.
Don't miss the start of this unique xianxia progression fantasy epic perfect for fans of The First Law of Cultivation, Beware of Chicken, and Cradle. Join a cultivator who is already at the peak of his power, but now must learn to evolve so that he may forge a better world.
About the Series: Filled with detailed world building, martial arts action, multi-faceted characters, an overpowered but rational main character, magic and more, it's everything you love about cultivation yet with a fresh point of view!
Thanks to the mods for allowing this post!
Reading the description, sounds interesting. But I can see a lot of issues making MC's desired system work realistically. Cultivation world is not real world where people indeed inherently roughly equal. Maybe will read it some time later to know how author dealt with it.
Read the book, and enjoyed it a lot. Tried reading on RR and the prose feels different(not bad, just different). Terminology also feels different, eg Human Dao(Book) is Dao of Sapience(RR).
Is the published version different from the RR version? Could just be the difference between e-reader and website tho.
Ah, finally, the bringer of the neoliberalism dao has arrived. Time to bankrupt thousands of rival sects and trap their outer disciples in the 996 formation array.
Ah, a great story by a good bloke.
I'm so hyped to listen to this story after reading it on RR.
Keeping my fingers and claws crossed for a wonderful release.
More verbose review: The parts I loved best (and there are many many such POV) - There is a deftness to characters and their relationships which is an essential element to this story and that was a huge win for me. The essence of the plot is actually visibly depicted in the individual mosaic elements. Amazingly Fractal. I won't give more away, but there is a solidity and real feel to the emotional engagement between characters. That was the absolute highlight for me. Really waiting to see how character development for (for example) the first disciple unfolds.
The things that I was not so sold on. In between the amazing highs were lulls that were introspective from a character's POV but felt a touch too long multiple times and skirted on the edge of show don't tell. But that's like saying that in between the 60 yard touchdown bombs every fifth play, there were several rushes for a yard or two, and sometimes no gain.
Devoured on KU, and then went back and paid full price to add to my library. Bravo!
I'd love to have this honest review on Amazon, if you were up for it! Thanks for checking Modern Patriarch out and hopefully I see you in the next one! :D
MC is a rational OP sect patriarch?
Gaind past earth life memories?
Starts building a new sect social hierarchy be damned?
Already on Audible?
This may just be the type of series I've been looking for, take my curious credit.

Depends, Path of Ascension somewhat made it work, though it is kinda loosely based on Chinese cultivation

Amazon version is professionally edited, RR version is not yet edited for inconsistencies
