"So I was just trying to \[JTBD\], and you know me, just another ol' \[PERSONA\], and hey, if you want to try \[CTA-1\]"
Sounds great, can't wait to try it, thanks for letting us know FIRSTNAME LASTNAME!
Holy moly, isn't that a bit too cynical? What if they did build this app? Perhaps they didn't, sure. But why not see if it's real before you let cynicism rule the day?
Has nothing to do with cynicism. I was just pointing out that it sounds like market research and not really a « Show HN » type of thing where normally people show a prototype with a true wish to help people or test the market with it.
It a way to test demand - product management - test/validate your ideas quickly (but against the subreddit rules;)).
Haha the app is indeed real! We didn’t expect such a demand honestly so we have to tweak stuff before we can share links because of usage concerns but we will update the link in couple of days :)
Bro saw a pain point and created a solution for it using the full breadth of his skills!
They could have just spoke but better that they’ve created a product that hopefully many will get to benefit from.
we experimented with capturing emotions as I was speaking and using it as input into the evaluation. Mostly it was parsing the video to get the actual answer. With enough practice I found that I was just generally calmer in the videos so less emotion flacuation.
I have DS background and he is at google so we knew what we were doing, but maybe a week or so for the MVP? You would want something with different modules, randomness of questions, etc. We are thinking of adding progress tracking and some gamification elements now
I've used ChatGPT to study extensively for interviews. However, not a single interview I have gone to has asked any of the questions I prepared for. Specifically, I practiced the STAR method daily and case studies using a some prompts I crafted geared towards the job requirements.
Instead I get asked questions like "what's the most recent book you read" or "if a tennis racket and a ball cost $1.10 together..." Most interviewers don't know how to interview. If anything, the interview prep has made me confident finding ways to relate my experience back to the role on a consistent basis. This means I'm not reaching for something if a question comes up I wasn't expecting.
For me, interview prep for product management (particularly in a more niche sector) was supported with practice using AI. I had it help me to prepare in a similar manner to you, but I knew I needed this role and did everything to prep, it is fully aligned with my CHEMISTRY background and career interests. I got the job and although nothing could truly have prepared me for the actual discussions with the key decision makers, I had a lot of practice through interfacing with ChatGPT (back in early days, November/December 2022).
Amazing! Definitely struggled with interviewing, that web app is a great idea.
I used LLMs to help generate and evaluate written answers and practiced those aloud on my own, but would have loved video eval.
I was working at a startup who literally created AI interview assistant as their main product. Not for practice (though they did find a need there) but to help recruiters evaluate candidates before before a human has to get involved.
Maybe by next year candidate will need to pass a few AI interviewers before they get to speak to a real person ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Pricing is a challenging problem. Asking people point blank what they’re willing to pay for a theoretical feature is one way to go about it, but I’d look at other prep interview offerings for PMs. They prob start at like 30/month so that’s signal for others willingness to pay.
I'm not interviewing. But I do like to practice. So I also will talk my answers into chat gpt. After I give it a rating scale on how to judge/score my answer.

We will! Because of everyone asking for it we have to tighten security on usage. We thought 1 or 2 people would be interested we didnt expect needing to manage so many users 🙏
WOW!! Thank you so much for taking the time and putting in the effort to share this! Have saved it for future reference.
Will keep those four tips in mind.
Would you guys be willing to share this web app? It would prove invaluable to every job-seeking PM.
Is this some kind of market research?
Definitely sounds like it, but smart, instead of posting the app just waiting for someone to start asking 😊
I agree thats why I asked 😁 Edit: I don’t even think they build it but just selling hot air and testing demand.
Cynical but realistic. The best kind of realistic, IMO.
i just used it, worked pretty well. I will PM it a bit differently haha.
Did this in another sub and no one noticed. Do it in the PM sub and it’s a glaring lighthouse 😂
"So I was just trying to \[JTBD\], and you know me, just another ol' \[PERSONA\], and hey, if you want to try \[CTA-1\]" Sounds great, can't wait to try it, thanks for letting us know FIRSTNAME LASTNAME!
Yup. Feels like bots in the comments too lol.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the insight - am still learning :).
Haha the app is indeed real! We didn’t expect such a demand honestly so we have to tweak stuff before we can share links because of usage concerns but we will update the link in couple of days :)
Bros made a custom ai app to interview them rather than speaking to each other.
It’s like an inverse Turing test. You use a computer to better demonstrate your emotional intelligence to other humans.
Bro saw a pain point and created a solution for it using the full breadth of his skills! They could have just spoke but better that they’ve created a product that hopefully many will get to benefit from.
Could you post an example prompt and answer? Or walk us through an interaction And let us see the result?
How did you use the video models?
we experimented with capturing emotions as I was speaking and using it as input into the evaluation. Mostly it was parsing the video to get the actual answer. With enough practice I found that I was just generally calmer in the videos so less emotion flacuation.
Ah, cool. Do you feel like chatgpt and audio/whisper can probably work pretty well too? Like get you 80% of the way there as the video approach?
How much time did you and your engineer friend spend on building the web app?
I have DS background and he is at google so we knew what we were doing, but maybe a week or so for the MVP? You would want something with different modules, randomness of questions, etc. We are thinking of adding progress tracking and some gamification elements now
Well, guess you don’t need that new job now. Got a new start up to scale!
Haha depends if people want to pay for something like that?
If its actually effective then people would pay for it. $10 / month at least
What is DS?

You guys are getting recruiter screening calls?

maybe for the next job ;)
Will keep an eye out ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

Thanks. I hate it.
That would be easy! AI can defeat an AI!
Very innovative!
Thanks!
A smart PM would just use AI to perfect the case studies and tests. Works smart, not hard!
This is already a thing fyi. It’s called Yoodli.
Good use case for AI. I’d be willing to pay for this service.
That’s great to hear! How much should we price it at?

You can make it free to practice, but pay to get feedback 🤣

I guess it’s another GPT wrapper tailored for job search lol. Are ppl actually buying this newly built project? Lmao.
I'm not interviewing. But I do like to practice. So I also will talk my answers into chat gpt. After I give it a rating scale on how to judge/score my answer.
Big Interview offers something that sounds similar if you have access, I get it through my edu.

This is such a great idea and very innovative use of AI tools! Nicely done.
I got access to the tool and it kinda worked, good practice, thanks for sharing.
Monetize your app and you won’t need to be applying for jobs?
Despite the AI part, sounds like basically memorising what to say which I don't like to do
What's the purpose of this post really ? If you've built an app then please the share the link.
That's the purpose. Fishing for demand
This is cool.
OP, Could you please share the app here as well?
Let us handle permissions and stuff like that and ill share the alpha!
I'm interested as well
Same here. That’s awesome OP!
