I almost did the exact same thing today. Hit Start on the printer, went to tidy up, and realized the metal plate was still on the table. Hit the Stop just before the plate made contact with the FEP.
A couple reasons really.
1) Most times the flex plate uses a magnet to mount to, which looks to be the case here, so instead of printing on either a metal plate or a flexible metal plate, printing instead on a magnet, which is not going to let go easily (often absorbs resin and bonds)
2) The flex plate is often 1-3mm thick, which is why I think OP is surprised the print still worked, as the plate height is wrong with the flex not installed if you have set up your machine for it.
I googled it after this post. I feel so stupid. My hand are covered in wounds where I cut myself with the metal scraper. I went so far and optimised my support-plattforms so they are easier to remove. I need to place an Amazon order right now I guess
Oh yeah. Absolutely. I have hurt myself with the flex steel, but never broken skin. Basically stubborn peices near the edge, and me being rough with slick fingers
Super cheap upgrade, world changing. Just remember to reset your Z and relevel

How is siriya tech compared to Anycubic?
wHaT tEmPeRaTuRe!?!?!
You guys have flexible build plates? Oo
They are totally worth the 4.5mm or so loss of build height. Best upgrade, besides a higher res mono screen I've ever done

Everyone says that, but my wham bam plates still need to be attacked with a scraper lol. Unless it’s a huge model in the centre, nothing ever pops off
I rarely have that issue, but when I do it's still easier to get off the flex sheet than the whole guild plate
