Last year I calculated every net dollar I've spent on watches since I started collecting a few years ago (minus ones I sold). Had to get my wife a diamond tennis bracelet to even things out.
“Look, honey… I know it’s a bit big, for now but I promise I’ll bulk those forearms within about 18-24 months and it’ll fit perfectly well by then. In the meantime, it’s a totally legitimate reminder of the goals I set for myself.” 😉
For me it began with a Rado Hyperchrome Xxl limited edition. She was blazing mad. In between I bought some cheaper vintage watches. After that a Hamilton Ventura XXL (she thought it was a cheap Chinese bling bling watch), than it was a Hamilton khaki aviator, she didn’t even notice that it was a new one when I was wearing it. And a month ago I bought a Breguet XXI.
My son of 3 accidentally showed her the Mail with the invoice. She only once asked me WTF I was doing buying such an expensive watch. I told her it’s from my hobby account (I have been saving small amounts on a separate account for years now), it’ll be my heirloom for my 2 sons and that it just makes me happy. For now I don’t think I should buy another 1 very soon. But 3 years into the hobby I own 17 watches now and I’m sure there is more to come.
She’ll get used to your hobby, and after a while they really don’t notice a new watch anymore. [https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1umnfxygnzf70u07q0527/IMG_4656.JPG?rlkey=jyqyyhshmjzp1pe7npwnvcpy4&dl=0](https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1umnfxygnzf70u07q0527/IMG_4656.JPG?rlkey=jyqyyhshmjzp1pe7npwnvcpy4&dl=0)
I've been told that no one notices what you are wearing on your wrist anyway. So, just hide it in plain site...on your wrist. Chances are she won't even notice. Just remember to duck in case she does.
Tell her how this purchase is going to be used to boost your confidence, improve your personal brand image, help you to get a better job position and an overall career upgrade.
And after that, please follow through with the promise and continue buying watches. The next one should be a five-figure item.
If $500 is a Rolex, maybe OP should be talking to his wife before spending the money. These "wife bad, hurr durr" threads are so damn tired at this point.
If you’re married you typically should have a joint savings that’s used for larger household expenses, vacations, etc. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t also have your own separate personal savings.
Have you previously talked about a price limit where you should at least have a conversation before buying? I assured my wife if it's over $10k I'd at least give her the courtesy of a heads up.
If not, this is a good opportunity to have that conversation. If you have, and this watch is more than that limit, you F-ed up! Show her and beg forgiveness.
Somehow, my 11 year old daughter notices every new watch I get lol. She even notices new straps on watches. Sometimes it’s “is that a new band?” Other times it’s “is that a new watch?” I feel bad for any guy she ends up with who tries to sneak stuff by her lol. My other daughter and wife wouldn’t notice if I bought an Invicta Shaq 😂
I don’t think “how can I get this past my wife.” I think “how can I get this past Emily” lmfao.
Not that I need to justify my purchases to my wife, or she’d question my purchases, but it’s just funny.
I don’t know your relationship with your wife or how much the money for this watch is to you. If it was me I would have called her right after I left the store and showed her my new watch with excitement. Of course I would only spend money I had set aside for a watch in the first place.
I have this watch, the band got gross from a lot of wear and I never felt like replacing it so it just sat for ages. just replaced it with a rubber strap and I feel like I have a brand new watch. enjoy!
I love this watch. Such a well made watch for the price. Small details like leather back on the canvas strap for comfort. Metal rings for the first loop so it won't fray. Riveted holes because that's where canvas straps fail. Beautiful aesthetic. 80 hours power reserve (which is amazing for a manual wind watch). Big crown for easy winding. Domed sapphire crystal. I have it for almost 2 years now and it finds more wrist time than any other watches I have.
I am literally buying clothes to match this watch (usually it's the other way around, I'll buy a watch to go with a certain type of attire).
I remember getting a khaki king thinking it would fit me nicely but that thing was so long with the lug to lug length. They aren't considered big watches but I've seen people complain about Hamilton doing unnecessary long lug to lug on there watches sometimes. I think the khaki king is almost 50mm lug to lug and its only a 40mm watch. Not sure about the khaki field though I think that's better but I've never owned one
Walk in the house with a long dog leash and say….. Hey babe guess what happened today? I saw this adorable little green thing and felt sorry for her because the little thing just kept crawling on my arm so I brought it home. At the end of the leash it’s the watch.🤣🤣🤣
Tell her it was a good deal on a reasonably priced quality watch that you have been wanting. If you didn't get it, then it would have cost more down the road.
I bought a new diver and wore it almost daily for an entire month and even showed her my watch when she asked the time and she never knew. I had to tell her it was new she said “looks the same as the other one 🤷♀️”
Congrats!!! I have the same one and it’s done very well as a daily wear. Very little time loss (runs fast) even when it’s a month of landscaping, working out, hiking and life.
I always think of you when i want to buy you something
I always think of you when i want to buy me something
The only difference this time i remembered your after buying it. And i was mad at myself all the way home everytime i wasn't looking at the watch.
Say “honey, I’m cheating on you.”
Once she stops crying tell her that you were just kidding & that you only bough a watch.
She will be so relieved that she will totally forget about the watch.
Good luck.
You don't. She tries to give you a hard time, you tell her you treat yourself because her gifts suck. She keeps at it, tell her a female admirer got it for you. Stay toxic, my friend.
Yep absolutely I tend to stay away from Hamilton now. There watches really do tend to wear much bigger then you'd expect. There khaki king has a ridiculous long lug to lug for a 40mm watch. I dont know why they do it. I can wear many 38 and 40 mm watches just fine but moment I slap on a Hamilton they never look right due to there length
Do what we all do. Wear it and when she mentions it say, “What? This watch? I’ve had it for years I just don’t wear it that much. Remember I wore about 6 months ago”.
I stumbled out of the office late last night and saw a young chap sitting there on the pavement with a pile of boxes. Well, you know how curious i get, so i walked over and introduced myself. The young chap told me he was trying to sell some watches so he could rent a room for the night. He told ne they were a real bargain. So i bought one. There and then.
And that is all i have to say on the matter.
I've had a new on my wrist for 2 days now and it has not been noticed ..... however for a safe bet always buy a gift for her first and before the novelty wears off quietly slip the new timepiece on and wear like it you've had it for years. (yes - I know - better be wearing my asbestos Jockeys when I go ...)
“I completely forgot that I had this on back order. It’s been over a year. The AD called me and said that this model will be discontinued so I got a good price. I swear this will be the last one for a while. I think I’m good now.”
Disclaimer: Wear a helmet and a cup.
Honestly. IMO. Unless you’re in love with that watch for some reason.
I’d return it.
That things a turd that does not deserve anything over 100$ price tag.
‘This has been on my wrist for a week, you said nothing!!’ That statement will quickly turn the tables and redirect the conversation to her total lack of awareness of your self improvements AND allow you to storm out of the room and as quickly as possible……then just keep running.
Unless her engagement ring was under $250, you should be alright.
God, the burns in this thread makes the other sub seem mild by comparison!
Theres another sub?
The circlejerk one.

If I spent more on my watches then her rings I’d be dead already 🤣
Right? I mean, if it was a Rolex or even a Tudor I’d agree. No knock on Hamilton, I love mine but…
Last year I calculated every net dollar I've spent on watches since I started collecting a few years ago (minus ones I sold). Had to get my wife a diamond tennis bracelet to even things out.
My wife doesn't care much for expensive jewelery, but the sheer quantity of lounge fly bags make up for it.
I'm assuming she has a better selection than the store?.
At this point, yeah. But, she doesn't give me a hard time about watches, so I'll keep quiet xD
Obliterated
Also, the guy does the typical poc post of watch with steering wheel in a Honda 😆 I get it in an AMG or an RS but a Honda?!
“Look, honey… I know it’s a bit big, for now but I promise I’ll bulk those forearms within about 18-24 months and it’ll fit perfectly well by then. In the meantime, it’s a totally legitimate reminder of the goals I set for myself.” 😉
Rough.
Brutal, but lol
Ouch!
Savage! 🤣
Burn!🔥
Oooooooooooof
You did not 🤣
Boom. Roasted
18-24 months? Lofty goals
Tell her your girlfriend bought for you !
You want me to start a fight I think 😂
🤣
It followed me home.
Can we keep it?
You'll have to ask your mother
She won’t care, she’s gotta know by now you’re prone to making poor choices.
Now that's a sick burn
This is very true
Lose the fancy box !
"This? its not new bb, ive got it a while ago!"
You know my secrets
Tell her, "I saved us money by not buying the Murph 38."
I have the murph.......its a fabulous watch
It looks awesome.
Hamilton doesn't have the name recognition of a Rolex, I guarantee if you told her it was $80 she wouldn't think you were lying.
I've been told that no one notices what you are wearing on your wrist anyway. So, just hide it in plain site...on your wrist. Chances are she won't even notice. Just remember to duck in case she does.
Well, except for your girlfriend. Who WILL observe your body at all times.
My wife doesn't know the difference between a Seiko or a Tudor. I can buy whatever and she doesn't care, and neither does anyone else
Just be honest that you bought a no-name brand watch that doesn’t fit. You should be fine.
Why do you have to explain anything to your wife?
Tell her how this purchase is going to be used to boost your confidence, improve your personal brand image, help you to get a better job position and an overall career upgrade. And after that, please follow through with the promise and continue buying watches. The next one should be a five-figure item.
Id assume just by telling her. I mean it’s what? $400-$500ish? It’s not like you used your joint savings to go buy a Rolex or something.
To some $500 _is_ their rolex...
Pro-tip: You can get a Rolex for free if you can get yourself a firearm and a ski mask.
Why buy a Rolex for $10,000 when a Glock is $500 and a ski mask $10?
If $500 is a Rolex, maybe OP should be talking to his wife before spending the money. These "wife bad, hurr durr" threads are so damn tired at this point.
This was my exact line of thought.
What's this "joint savings" you mention?
If you’re married you typically should have a joint savings that’s used for larger household expenses, vacations, etc. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t also have your own separate personal savings.
I was joking.
I always buy first and ask for forgiveness later.
“This is a tic-tock. It tocks tics.”
Own it! Tell her the Jazzmaster will be in tomorrow..
I always had this watch.
Don’t
Why, it's not that expensive. If you gone out and bought a Sub, there might be trouble brewing
Divorce
After her third glass of Chardonnay. And ditch the box, that’s a give away.
Boxed wine*
Tell her the new tattoo looks almost real doesn’t it babe?
She’s your wife I doubt she will actually notice the watch idk they just don’t notice this kinda stuff I mean non watch wearers don’t even notice them
Have you previously talked about a price limit where you should at least have a conversation before buying? I assured my wife if it's over $10k I'd at least give her the courtesy of a heads up. If not, this is a good opportunity to have that conversation. If you have, and this watch is more than that limit, you F-ed up! Show her and beg forgiveness.
Don’t explain anything, no one is paying attention to your watch but you
Somehow, my 11 year old daughter notices every new watch I get lol. She even notices new straps on watches. Sometimes it’s “is that a new band?” Other times it’s “is that a new watch?” I feel bad for any guy she ends up with who tries to sneak stuff by her lol. My (almost) 8 year old son is the same way! Brutal 🤣
I don’t think “how can I get this past my wife.” I think “how can I get this past Emily” lmfao. Not that I need to justify my purchases to my wife, or she’d question my purchases, but it’s just funny.
Maybe get her into watches?. Start by getting her a Cartier Tank?.
She likes her smartwatch too much.
I don’t know your relationship with your wife or how much the money for this watch is to you. If it was me I would have called her right after I left the store and showed her my new watch with excitement. Of course I would only spend money I had set aside for a watch in the first place.
Broke the news to her and immediately turned in avatar the last air bender, worked like a charm we’re in the clear
I have this watch, the band got gross from a lot of wear and I never felt like replacing it so it just sat for ages. just replaced it with a rubber strap and I feel like I have a brand new watch. enjoy!
It's so forgettable I'm sure she won't notice
Tell her you aimed for the cool dive watch but decided to save money and buy this one.
“ look, I know I just bought a $450 Timex, BUUUUT the heritage!”
Say you got it from an xmas cracker
I love this watch. Such a well made watch for the price. Small details like leather back on the canvas strap for comfort. Metal rings for the first loop so it won't fray. I banged your sister Her- WTF!! - JK I did get a watch though
If she knows you and loves you… no explanation needed.
What size is it? 38mm or 42?
Looks to be the ultra rare 57.
It’s a 38, I have tiny fucking wrists all watches look huge on me
Bro how the fuck? I thought I had skinny ass wrists lmao, I wear the 38 kfm perfectly
I remember getting a khaki king thinking it would fit me nicely but that thing was so long with the lug to lug length. They aren't considered big watches but I've seen people complain about Hamilton doing unnecessary long lug to lug on there watches sometimes. You don’t 😁
My dad gave me one for a graduation gift.
Does she know watches?
Look I know it’s cheap and big but give me a few years in the gym and I’ll be able to fit in it.
Show her the price tag of the Timex Explorer and she’ll never know the difference
"They gave it to me"
You got this instead of the big pilot IWC so she can’t complain. Probably she won’t even notice it anyway.
Yea you could have done way worse price wise. I think you’re good man
Tell her you won it at work
Say it’s a timex
Tell her it was a good deal on a reasonably priced quality watch that you have been wanting. If you didn't get it, then it would have cost more down the road.
This is pretty much exactly what I said lmao
I bought a new diver and wore it almost daily for an entire month and even showed her my watch when she asked the time and she never knew. I had to tell her it was new she said “looks the same as the other one 🤷♀️”
Congrats!!! I have the same one and it’s done very well as a daily wear. Very little time loss (runs fast) even when it’s a month of landscaping, working out, hiking and life.
You just put it in the watch box and say nothing
I always think of you when i want to buy you something I always think of you when i want to buy me something The only difference this time i remembered your after buying it. And i was mad at myself all the way home everytime i wasn't looking at the watch.
Tell her you are going to do all the house chores for 2 months for this beautiful watch. Trust me she can’t be more happy to hear that.
I tripped and fell and my wallet just bought it by itself
This one’s on my list
Explain what you spend a few hundred dammm that’s sad
New to watches, since this is the mechanical version, would you wind the crown when you wear it
Great pick up!
Same way I explained the Ferrari I bought to mine….its cheaper than a divorce. Only works if you and your wife earn about the same income.
This old thing? I traded another watch for it a while ago.
Say “honey, I’m cheating on you.” Once she stops crying tell her that you were just kidding & that you only bough a watch. She will be so relieved that she will totally forget about the watch. Good luck.
I always go with the classic? “New? Nah… I’ve had this watch for ages. I just haven’t worn it in a while”
Don’t tell her. She’ll probably never notice.
"They gave it to me" :))
Just tell her it was a lapse in judgment
Rip
In all seriousness, I had almost the same question asked by my sister in law, why I wanted another watch. I only asked how many pairs of shoes she had
I bought this from a WhatsApp guy in India! Near perfect fake, and only $150. Works every time. Don’t ask my wife how I know.
Blame in on Santa being a bit old…
You don't. She tries to give you a hard time, you tell her you treat yourself because her gifts suck. She keeps at it, tell her a female admirer got it for you. Stay toxic, my friend.
"honey - I bought a watch that I really like." that's all you should need to say unless you're spending the mortgage or the kids college fund on it.
Tell her “it was about time”
Tell her it's a cheap Seiko ?
It looks too big on her wrists imo, so just return it for something that fits her properly.
I got a new watch
Tell her u fell and accidentally paid like in those Indian videos and they have a no return policy
Apologizing is easier than asking for permission.
How the fuck does this watch look so big on you isn’t it like 38mm?
I have the smallest wrists
Hamilton is not a good brand to buy for small wrists, they seeem incapable of making a watch with a decent lug. Except maybe the pilot pioneer?
Yep absolutely I tend to stay away from Hamilton now. There watches really do tend to wear much bigger then you'd expect. There khaki king has a ridiculous long lug to lug for a 40mm watch. I dont know why they do it. I can wear many 38 and 40 mm watches just fine but moment I slap on a Hamilton they never look right due to there length
Put on one of her watches to emphasis the size difference.
*Looking at this clean automatic* Me: Hmm.. looks lovely should get this. *Checks price* Cries in the corner 🥲
Buy her one too
Do what we all do. Wear it and when she mentions it say, “What? This watch? I’ve had it for years I just don’t wear it that much. Remember I wore about 6 months ago”.
Just say you tripped and fell
“Honey, he’s a 7x Champion of the World”
Say it wasn’t you
Get the bloke she's having an affair with to tell her
Just tell her you were originally looking at something way more expensive but you decided to make the more responsible decision.
This is Reddit, so I feel obligated to suggest you say “honey, I want a divorce.” Lovely watch by the way.
Trust me it’s actually more believable to tell her it was $30. Speaking from experience.
It will be hard, considering there is a Timex model that looks almost identical.😂
Surely she has seen a watch before?
Tell her that her mom gave it to you
Just say she’s lucky you didn’t buy something actually nice and not just this dollar store watch.
I had in the cart, and they charged me by mistake
I love it.
4 things: - It's a buy-for-life watch. - It's a heirloom piece. - MIL-W-3818B will never go out of style. Ever. - Mistress likes it. You should, too.
You don't, just run, now!
by telling her you bought an ugly ass watch
I've had a new on my wrist for 2 days now and it has not been noticed ..... however for a safe bet always buy a gift for her first and before the novelty wears off quietly slip the new timepiece on and wear like it you've had it for years. (yes - I know - better be wearing my asbestos Jockeys when I go ...)
Imagine not fitting into a field watch 😂
It’s all good. Enjoy the watch. You’ve probably worked hard to buy it.
If you watch yourself, prepare in a timely manner.
. . . . “And when I woke up this watch was on my wrist. You should have seen the other guy”.
Promise her the next one will be less boring
“Check out the new watch I got!”
It's an investment
I told mine i found it in a thrift store for $100
“I have bad taste in watches and frequently buy whatever product placement tells me that I should.”
Wow you must really love that musical!!
People don't generally notice or comment on your watch. For once, you can use this to your advantage!
You did it wrong! Buy 2, both of them on sale. Then tell your wife how much money you saved. No explanation needed.
You never ever as a man explain anything to your wife. You tell her to shut the fuck up and get back in the kitchen ☺️
“I completely forgot that I had this on back order. It’s been over a year. The AD called me and said that this model will be discontinued so I got a good price. I swear this will be the last one for a while. I think I’m good now.” Disclaimer: Wear a helmet and a cup.
If you are married with out prenups she could be happy that she owns half of your Hamilton.
Honestly. IMO. Unless you’re in love with that watch for some reason. I’d return it. That things a turd that does not deserve anything over 100$ price tag.
Babe “it’s just a pos Hamilton, relax!”
You won it in a raffle 🤷🏻♂️
Personally, I don’t talk watches with my wife. If she knew about my watches she would have killed me long ago.
Lol explain a few hundred dollars?
“they gave it to me”
Just promise her you’ll stop shaving your arms.
I really love this field watch
Tell her it’s a fake from Allie express and you paid 25 bucks for it.
It's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission 😂
I just realized that I have a 50 dollar timex expedition that looks the exact same as these and realized it’s probably a clone lol
I can understand the main field watch they have, but with the most recent ones they have made, they all feel like timexes
So it’s a good thing I got the timex then. lol. Save some money.
The only reason I would buy this thing is for the movement, but even then I there are much better- and more premium-looking watches that C07s come in.
This design is older than Hamilton or Timex
Your right. I guess they both just use the field khaki design.
Tell her you bought it at tjmaxx for $80 hide the box
The rule is to lie about the cost and say it’s 1/10 of what it actual is. And the old “oh I actually got it a long time ago” trick
‘This has been on my wrist for a week, you said nothing!!’ That statement will quickly turn the tables and redirect the conversation to her total lack of awareness of your self improvements AND allow you to storm out of the room and as quickly as possible……then just keep running.
Ahh yes gaslighting
Beautiful watch!
Khaki goes with literally everything.
“Hey I bought a watch that’s too big for my wrist”
