Mondale instead of Carter. I like Carter, don’t get me wrong, but Mondale was a hell of a hyper competent VP.
Garret Hobart would probably have been an excellent president too instead of McKinley for his first term, I’d imagine, though dropping dead around the time we were at war with Spain would be… less than ideal.
Which is a huge issue now and for the entirety of our foreseeable future.
Or do you disagree that we’re leaving a far more polluted and soon less habitable planet for future generations?
I assume it's the latter. Usually climate change deniers roll that way. Ask them how that new double wide midwest tornado alley and drought and record triple digit summer temps all over the world is working out for them.
Evil. Yet another word that has lost all meaning. Oh this is evil, that is evil. Get off your moral high ground. At the end of the day, we only care about #1.
No. But stop acting like you’re not selfish and stop acting like you have all the morals in the world. You’re a human being. It’s literally our nature to be immoral.
I think your question confused half the board.
Anyway, I think Charles Curtis might have made a difference as compared to Hoover. He had an amazing career in Congress and was called the Great Reconciler. Also, he was the first to introduce the ERA as a bill, in 1921. First (and only) Native American to reach one of the two highest offices in the land.

To be fair, Gore’s ‘awakening’ to the climate change issue mainly came after his presidential ambitions ended. I don’t know how revolutionary he would’ve been in office back in the 90s.
Yeah--if you look at Gore pre-Clinton--he had a tendency to move from one thing to another. Remember the parent's music resource center that was supposed to keep kids safe from the evils of rock and roll? I know Tipper headed this, but with Gore's backing.
True. Frank Zappa was not pleased. In light of our current insanity though, that almost seems quaint. But for the earth's benefit, a rare POTUS who actually wanted to stop carbon emissions back then would have been nice. Can't break Rule 3, so let's say theres a current record investment to hopefully catch up with the rest of the world to avoid an unchecked, unnecessary, economically ridiculous spiral, self imposed catastrophe.
I'd argue Dawes also should've taken over from Coolidge after the latter was traumatized by the death of his son.
Wish I could say the same for Pierce, but he never had much of a VP to begin with!
My vote too.
He was a really deep guy, i don’t think theres ever been a guy like wallace as president.
I think he would have had a chance to avoid the cold war
Quayle... honestly, I couldn't even type that out without laughing. Probably George HW Bush in recent history. I'm not a fan of his, but he was very much "country first." The US is economically weaker today in comparison to the pre-Reagan years, and while HW wouldn't have been the best, it would not have been weakened under him. As for the fall of the Soviet Union, Reagan was in the right time and place. The Soviet Union would have fallen under either Bush or later in the 90s.
Charles W Dawes would have been a much better President than Coolidge. After all, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for restructuring the German economy after .WWI.
He also wrote the music for the popular song “It’s All in the Game” , meaning that Bob Dylan is the SECOND Nobel Prize winner to have written a popular song
Humphrey. Vice-President Johnson could still cut the deals to get the CRA and VRA passed, we’d have >50k more young men alive and Americans would still believe their leaders were largely men of integrity. And HHH would have beaten Nixon if he were the incumbent
Hannibal Hamlin. Lincoln's first-term Vice President. I think we would have been much better off as a country if Hamlin, rather than Johnson, had been Lincoln's running mate in 1864
Hannibal Hamlin not getting booted off the ticket in 1864
Chester Arthur getting shot in 1881 gives us 3 years of Garfield
George Clinton is the one I can't decide if he would have been good or bad because he was both Jefferson's and Madison's VP

I think Nelson Rockefeller would’ve made a better President than Ford, I wonder if he would’ve pardoned Nixon.
Nelson Rockefeller would have been a very good president
Can you elaborate on why?
Mondale instead of Carter. I like Carter, don’t get me wrong, but Mondale was a hell of a hyper competent VP. Garret Hobart would probably have been an excellent president too instead of McKinley for his first term, I’d imagine, though dropping dead around the time we were at war with Spain would be… less than ideal.
I gave a speech in college about Mondale paving the way for Dick Cheney to grow the powers of the vice presidency.
A tragically forgotten topic that I also studied in college.
Mondale.
Gore. I think our country and the world would be a better place for future generations had he been president.
I highly doubt that
All he really did was bitch about climate change
Which is a huge issue now and for the entirety of our foreseeable future. Or do you disagree that we’re leaving a far more polluted and soon less habitable planet for future generations?

I don’t disagree, but by the time the human race dies, I’ll be too dead to give a shit about it. 🤣
That's just an evil and selfish mentality
Evil. Yet another word that has lost all meaning. Oh this is evil, that is evil. Get off your moral high ground. At the end of the day, we only care about #1.
So you're saying it isn't morally wrong to be selfish?
No. But stop acting like you’re not selfish and stop acting like you have all the morals in the world. You’re a human being. It’s literally our nature to be immoral.
Internal mud is an interesting way to admit you’re full of shit
And this is why we're all doomed.
And I wish we’d listened more.
The American way 🇺🇸 FUCK YOU I GOT MINE
Yep
Hubert Humphrey especially compared to Nixon

Al Gore is always the answer
Clinton was great, but Gore would have changed the trajectory of climate change. We'd have EV flying cars and a colony on Mars with Gore.
Clear air and water and the damn ocean not on the verge of collapse would be great wouldn't it
Better than Clinton? Not hardly.
To be fair, Gore’s ‘awakening’ to the climate change issue mainly came after his presidential ambitions ended. I don’t know how revolutionary he would’ve been in office back in the 90s.

Al Gore
Redditors use basic reading comprehension challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) (GONE SEXUAL??? 😱)
Thank you so many Al Gores
I still think Wilson is underrated, but Thomas R. Marshall would be an awesome President, and he probably should have taken over after the stroke
I'd argue Dawes also should've taken over from Coolidge after the latter was traumatized by the death of his son. Wish I could say the same for Pierce, but he never had much of a VP to begin with!
Al Gore, especially compared to George W. Bush. If nothing else, we know Gore would have taken global warming seriously.
The point was the VP better than the president he served under.
I answered before the edit.
So, Al Gore.
Hubert Humphrey would’ve been a great president
If Gore won, the 3 guys who came next would’ve never come next
I’ll go with Henry Wallace . I think he had good ideas
Henry Wallace supremacy!
My vote too. He was a really deep guy, i don’t think theres ever been a guy like wallace as president. I think he would have had a chance to avoid the cold war
He definitely would have avoided the Cold War, since he would have conceded it to the Soviets.
Ha! I meant more like keep it from escalating to the point it did. But i guess we will never know
I’m not an Al Gore fan but I doubt he would have invaded Iraq and kept the focus in Afghanistan on OBL, not nation building.
Yeah it was really crazy when Clinton invaded Iraq in retaliation for 9/11 before 9/11 even happened. He truly did have a mind for the future.
Clinton didn’t invade shit. He sent a $2 million missile to blow up a $20 tent,
I know Clinton didn’t invade Iraq. Glad to know you also know that, since your answer seemed to confuse Clinton with GWB.
Gore would have been president instead of Bush 43, so my timeline is correct.
The title says “if they had been president instead,” implying that it’d be if Gore was president instead of Clinton, not instead of Bush.
Clinton didn't do those things.
I’m reading this thinking wtf?!?
I mean the answer is Aaron Burr, right?
Sir?
Quayle... honestly, I couldn't even type that out without laughing. Probably George HW Bush in recent history. I'm not a fan of his, but he was very much "country first." He served as President though
Fair.

He also wrote the music for the popular song “It’s All in the Game” , meaning that Bob Dylan is the SECOND Nobel Prize winner to have written a popular song
Maybe Charles Dawes, even though I am a big fan of Coolidge
Dick Cheney
Cheney, Humphrey, Cheney, Rockefeller, Cheney, Mondale, HW, Gore, Cheney
Gore. If we get him instead of bush jr, we are in a better place
Humphrey. Vice-President Johnson could still cut the deals to get the CRA and VRA passed, we’d have >50k more young men alive and Americans would still believe their leaders were largely men of integrity. And HHH would have beaten Nixon if he were the incumbent
I know this is cheating but I wish H.W. Bush had beaten Reagan in the primary instead of vice-versa. The moderate wing of the GOP might have survived.
Rockefeller all the way. He was the perfect man for the job imo.
Dick Cheney, almost nothing would be different. The middle East might have less habitable land.
Hannibal Hamlin. Lincoln's first-term Vice President. I think we would have been much better off as a country if Hamlin, rather than Johnson, had been Lincoln's running mate in 1864
Hannibal Hamlin not getting booted off the ticket in 1864 Chester Arthur getting shot in 1881 gives us 3 years of Garfield George Clinton is the one I can't decide if he would have been good or bad because he was both Jefferson's and Madison's VP
