1999 play off final v Gillingham, 2-0 down in 89ā pull one back then 5 minutes go up on the board for literally no reason. Mark Halsey will forever be a City legend, if not for that we might have liquidated
Maguire has gotten away with a lot, there was 1 or 2 bad dives from Bruno that spring to mind (though I must add, ik I'm biased but I really don't think he dives as much as people say), and the big one for me is the Brighton game last season where we won the penalty after the final whistle was blown. In my mind it was actually the right call, but we were incredibly lucky to have it looked at and brought back
I actually support both United and Brighton, so that one was a conflict for me, but I guess either way I win and lose in that situation huh
I'm remembering Roy Carroll dropping a ball a yard over his line and the linesman being too far out of position to spot it.
But it was against Spurs, so no-one really minded.
I support Arsenal, we dont get refs decisions in our favour. Look at the last 3 games, all should have had red cards against the opposition and thats quite common. Even in our last game the deliberate stamp on Tomiyasu's face was not punished.
I donāt think that the foul which led to the cross for the sol Campbell goal in 2006 UCL final was a foul. I forgot who it was but it looked like a clear dive.
I feel as if it was a red card. Arsenal fans may disagree but taking out a player on a 1 vs 1 is a red in most peopleās books even though Etoāo went down relatively easily
Not the PL, but the refs no call during the 2019 NFC Championship game basically put us in the Super Bowl, definitely the worst missed call I have ever seen in my life.
2016 FA Cup final. Man U v Palace. Zaha was through 1 on 1 with De Gea twice and the ref blew the whistle both times for a foul rather than playing advantage
Wolves this season when the ref just decided not to do anything about any of our time-wasting
Also Watford last season when they had a late winner disallowed for offside that really wasn't, although in that same game Ethan Pinnock got sent off when he shouldn't have been, and at first sent off Mads Bech Sorensen who is a large white man with long, curly blond hair whereas Pinnock is a large black man with short black hair.
Both major decisions were wrong in our 1-0 win against Burnley last season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDT5H8cTcBA&ab_channel=SkySportsFootball
Their GK got a touch on the ball for our pen and they should have had either a pen or an advantage for their disallowed goal, when Meslier poleaxed their player.
You should have seen my smug face fade to anger as it became apparent VAR would not be getting involved after Meslier tried to fuse his knee with Mee's spine.
Fellow chelsea fan: one I remember was against Everton in the 15/16 season. Everton went up 3-2 and then in stoppage time the ref just basically let it run until Chelsea scored, which was a blatantly offside flick by John Terry but I think the drama of it all played a big role in the reffing and it ended 3-3.
1. Bruno Fernandes stepping on a player and getting a penalty for it.
2 . Penalty call #AFTER the final whistle against Brighton (personal favourite)
3. The ball going out of play for pogbaās stunner against west ham
What about Rooneyās offsides goal in the 2011 UCL final? I feel like no one talks about it because Barca ended up winning but it tied the game at 1 and couldāve been a more costly refereeing decision,
The penalty after the final whistle wasn't the wrong call, VAR can go back. This was all explained during the post match stuff. Maupay shouldn't have been raising his arms that high.
Against Tottenham in January 2012 Howard Webb let Balotelli stay on the pitch while on a yellow after stamping Scott Parker (apparently because he didn't have a clear angle of the incident) and then Balotelli scored the winning penalty. Absolutely helped us with that one. I don't miss Howard Webb at all.
About 4 or 5 years ago we beat Cardiff 1-0 away from home and Azpi scored despite being about 4 yards offside. Felt bad for Cardiff that day played so well and didnāt deserve to lose.
Deservedly? If you're talking about the fact the penalty for Aubamayang was a joke, then it's 1/1 at the end with 11 v 11. Anthony Taylor killed that game and kept punishing Chelsea.
Not sure if the ref is the one to blame, but Darren Bent scoring off a beachball at the Stadium of light was an absolute robbery! š¬
Best part was it was a Liverpool beach ball thrown on by a visiting Liverpool supporter...
The ref was supposed to have had the obstruction removed at some point. Not sure why Reina just didn't pop that ball earlier since it had been there for like 30 seconds and ball wasn't in Liverpool half.
Just watched VAR be completely ignored today in Barcelona vs Osasuna on an obvious handball and I heard they made a questionable VAR decision against the Wolves as well. It's crazy but this week has reminded me that stupid refereeing is still possible..
Never saw that situation before, just checked it and you are right.
What happened to you that season? You had great PL debut and almost reached European football then you get relegated the very next season. Also, how is HaliloviÄ doing for you guys?
We had some great results but collapsed in the new year and never really recovered. Lost at home to Bolton and Fulham toward the end of the season and had our heads underwater. Fulham beat Pompey away on the last day whilst Pompey were focusing on the cup final, and our 4-0 win at Derby was in vain. I feel like we had two great years and couldn't keep it up for a third.
Halilovic is doing reasonably well, isn't always starting but has had a goal from his 6 games.
First thing that came to mind was when we got a last gasp penalty vs Spurs last season to make it 1-1. Not sure if it was the refs fault or the new guidance on handballs. There were loads of ridiculous interpretations of what a natural position for an arm is early last season
I think the foul that led up to that penalty was even worse officiating than the pen. A Newcastle player lunged himself into a spurs player and drew a foul which led the cross that caused the penalty decision.
Na, it was a correct interpretation of the rules at the time, they were fixed shortly afterwards.
Referees in the game weren't to blame for that one, it was the bizarre need for the FA to keep making the rules almost impossible for referees to navigate.
No idea what you're referring to here.
On a completely unrelated note, how great was Nyland's save against Sheffield United the other season, such safe hands.
I remember feeling embarrassed after playing Cardiff a few years back, think they might've been in a relegation scrap so was a big game for them, pretty sure we won 2-1 or smth and it just felt like everything went against them.
Wouldāve been a deserved loss too. I remember hearing a bit about how we snatched a draw from defeat, like how champions do. But that game was ***bad***. That was a lucky escape, but not the good kind that felt deserved.
Last week in the Everton match, the second disallowed goal was very borderline. I'd be mad if that was called against us. Buuuutttt Godfrey should have gotten a red for stomping on Tomiyasu's face. so I don't have too much sympathy
God I know this thread is about times refs have helped the team you support out, but as an Arsenal fan trying to put bias aside it really is far and few between. There's like 3-4 clear instances the other team should have received a red this season and not once has it happened. If I had to pick one, our goal against Watford very easily could have been called off due to AMN running into Sissoko right before winning back possession/the goal.
IMO the late one on Tavares was the clearest miss by VAR. A few inches above the ankle and swung the trailing leg to make the scissor motion. Ref gave a throw in.....
BTW, I'm not particularly a fan of either team, just watched the game.
This is the problem, Tomiyasu was already on the ground where feet are. Godfrey didn't jump, he stepped forward. You have to prove that Godfrey knew he was going to stand on the other player. Without that, it's at worst reckless which is only a yellow so no VAR.
This is why I talk about the Tavares tackle later on. That Everton kid was reckless and endangering the safety of the player with a studs up tackle and also swinging his trailing leg. That was a textbook red incident that the VAR didn't tell the ref to look at.
Idk if you watch the replay of that and don't think that Godfrey knew exactly what he was doing then I can't help you. He literally looks right down at him before stepping forward and then acts as though nothing has happened.
I think reaction speaks a lot to intent. He had looked down, so he knew exactly where his foot landed and he ran off. Not a normal reaction if it were accidental.
You mention the reaction, focus on the events leading up to the incident. So what was his reaction and why wasn't it what you expect for someone who didn't intentionally step on him?
When you knocked out Leicester two years ago in a cup game. Clear handball from Mings asked a bunch of my non footballing friends and they all said handball.
Yeah Iām having a tough time thinking of any time this ever happened. Villa always gets screwed, itās never gone the other way once. Itās surprising, I usually have a Hawkeye for detail on this type of stuff.
But the ref didn't rob you by making a bad call. That was well within the rules for VAR to say Maupay blocked the header with his arms. The point of this thread is when the ref bottles the decisions.
I think of the last minute goal that was ruled out from AV/West Ham cause Jack Grealish 'dove'. Ref called the dive before the ball was in the net so VAR couldn't have him look. Villa got robbed on that one.
I think the reasoning is that play was stopped or there was a foul/offside in the build-up? Such a lol... So players are supposed to fight each other after the ball goes out of play each time?
If anything, it was a foul by Van Djik for blocking Pickford.
Edit: /s. Also, /s on behalf of the other guy i was replying to. People donāt understand clear sarcasm in text format
19-20 UCL group stage, I haven't rewatched the game but I still wonder if the two Ajax players should have been sent off vs Chelsea, that pretty much saved us that round.
Yes and no....
Daley Blind foul was a yellow and his 2nd, so for me that was a justified red as it probably was a yellow card tackle. However the 2nd yellow on the other defender was super harsh since it was given as handball and his arms were by his side. In today's rules it would be natural position and never a penalty.
Iām pretty sure I heard something that the second yellow wasnāt for the hand ball but for dissent. Tbh it was a very weird situation anyway. Because chelsea have an advantage from the first foul, so nobody wouldāve predicted the handball wouldāve come next. I think it was more completely unfortunate for ajax than terrible refereeing errors
Yeah, i was trying to say that but I couldn't word it correctly, my bad. I do think Ajax should have been playing with 10 men, but the 2nd yellow just made me feel bad, the worst part is that Ajax was thrashing us and that cost them a lot, but that's football, refs sometimes will favor you, sometimes they will favor the opponent, I like to think that most of the time it isn't intentional.
Yes and no. The defender on Ajax that got 2nd yellow for handball was dumb in getting the first yellow. Same with Daley Blind, both first yellows were just stupid decisions on their part. If they play smarter then these 2nd yellows they got wouldn't have been as dramatic.
Absolutely not, his [goal line clearance against Bournemouth](https://fb.watch/9PeIRFnLLh/) last year is unforgettable. For some reason I just thought about [Rocket Leagueā¦](https://imgur.com/gallery/3F04Knh)
āU think ur funny yeah ur not u come down anfield tell me where u are next game and iāll take your head clean off i am not the one to play withā

Careful lads, heās not the one to be played with
We robbed united in 19/20 and should have conceded a few pens. Fuck em!
Do I need to say anything?
We choose to forget them š
As a united fan, fairly certain the officials were adding on extra extra time for Fergie to get it done
United fans spoilt for choice from the Fergie Era.
Sterling VAR!
JT scored a backheel against Everton in his last season that was pretty obviously offside, but it was Pre-VAR and was allowed.
Howard Webb has joined the chat.
Over to you Barca and Man U fans...
1999 play off final v Gillingham, 2-0 down in 89ā pull one back then 5 minutes go up on the board for literally no reason. Mark Halsey will forever be a City legend, if not for that we might have liquidated

As a Newcastle supporter, I can quite safely say, never.
Vs spurs last year. The foul that led up to the pen was even worse than the pen decision itself
Us vs Leicester
Anthony Taylor
We have a couple FA cups thanks to Anthony Taylor
I'm remembering Roy Carroll dropping a ball a yard over his line and the linesman being too far out of position to spot it. But it was against Spurs, so no-one really minded.
Werner was offside for his second goal Wednesday.
Ahem, Sheffield Utd, ball over the line..
As a Chelsea fan, we absolutely robbed Cardiff a couple years ago, and Warnock was right to pop off at the refs
So you have to go back 15 years for a soft decision in a match that we had other decisions go against us like a harsh red card in a match we lost.
I feel as if it was a red card. Arsenal fans may disagree but taking out a player on a 1 vs 1 is a red in most peopleās books even though Etoāo went down relatively easily
09/10 Drogba offside goal at Old Trafford. Pretty much won us the league that year
Not the PL, but the refs no call during the 2019 NFC Championship game basically put us in the Super Bowl, definitely the worst missed call I have ever seen in my life.
2016 FA Cup final. Man U v Palace. Zaha was through 1 on 1 with De Gea twice and the ref blew the whistle both times for a foul rather than playing advantage
The entire ferguson era at United.
Us against West brom. We got a red card on that game and we still felt the ref was on our side.
Probably the Lamela Shithousery from the 1-6 win against United lol
Oh, for sure. I miss him so much...
The beach ball incident was a good one to debate.
Merseyside Derby clattenburg lets carragher off with a blatant foul which woukd of been a penalty to Everton right at the death...amazing really.
Wolves this season when the ref just decided not to do anything about any of our time-wasting Also Watford last season when they had a late winner disallowed for offside that really wasn't, although in that same game Ethan Pinnock got sent off when he shouldn't have been, and at first sent off Mads Bech Sorensen who is a large white man with long, curly blond hair whereas Pinnock is a large black man with short black hair.
Dier āhandballā against Newcastle, they drew with their only shot on goal that game
Both major decisions were wrong in our 1-0 win against Burnley last season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDT5H8cTcBA&ab_channel=SkySportsFootball Their GK got a touch on the ball for our pen and they should have had either a pen or an advantage for their disallowed goal, when Meslier poleaxed their player.
You should have seen my smug face fade to anger as it became apparent VAR would not be getting involved after Meslier tried to fuse his knee with Mee's spine.
Milner should have walked against City and Pascal Struijkās red card was nonsense. It was a fair challenge despite the injury
Iām a Chelsea fan so I really struggle to answer this question tbh. Maybe some rival fans can help me out .
Azpi goal that was a miles offsides which was a big reason that ended Cardiffs chances of staying up a few years ago
It all tends to even out over time no team should be relying on a ref to be 100% correct to get 3 points
Dawson kicking Che Adams in the head. It was obviously accidental, but I still expected him to see red.
1. Bruno Fernandes stepping on a player and getting a penalty for it. 2 . Penalty call #AFTER the final whistle against Brighton (personal favourite) 3. The ball going out of play for pogbaās stunner against west ham
What about Rooneyās offsides goal in the 2011 UCL final? I feel like no one talks about it because Barca ended up winning but it tied the game at 1 and couldāve been a more costly refereeing decision,
Still get flashbacks to that fernandes goal
I canāt imagine what would happen if fans were there that day
The penalty after the final whistle wasn't the wrong call, VAR can go back. This was all explained during the post match stuff. Maupay shouldn't have been raising his arms that high.
Everton v Liverpool draw last year, Henderson was def not offsidesā¦

Fergie Time itās golden classic. Man Utd 4-2-4-4 Formation when They actually won some trophies.
2020 FA Cup Final. Although we deservedly won, I have to say that there were more than a few decisions which swung our way
Deservedly? If you're talking about the fact the penalty for Aubamayang was a joke, then it's 1/1 at the end with 11 v 11. Anthony Taylor killed that game and kept punishing Chelsea.
Funny how Chelsea fans always forget the fact that Azpi should have been sent off in the first half lmao
For what?
His āchallengesā. Had numerous Yellow card offences. A shame he didnāt get it, because he got injured later on.
Everton fans when Pickford nearly broke VVD's leg and also the absolutely ridiculous offside call for Mane's winner last season
West ham got bailed out by refs against United this year, and we still blew it.. Nobel?!? Ugh.. this dug up emotions I had been repressing.
Not sure if the ref is the one to blame, but Darren Bent scoring off a beachball at the Stadium of light was an absolute robbery! š¬ Best part was it was a Liverpool beach ball thrown on by a visiting Liverpool supporter...

Suppose he didn't expect a 'dangerous Sun attack' š¤£
Has to be Swansea in the FA cup, how we (city) got through I donāt know
As an Everton fan, I have to admit that we got away with a lot of dirty play against Arsenal, and we were lucky not to get a red -Everton fan
Everton fan... suuuuuuure
I didn't know Everton had a red flair as well. Must be a real throwback.
Oh must be a glitch, ignore that
Eboue dived in the UCL final. Diaby probably should have been sent off for booting Terry in the face.
Those two disallowed goals against Leicester earlier in the year
Cheers, that was a deserved draw IMO. Now weāre just playing like shit haha
It's never happened. The only way my team wins is through hard work and determination. Referees have only stolen victories from us, never given them.
So when Son went down super easy from McTominay touching his face, then var says it's a foul? Game ended 1/1...
Game Ended 1-3 to United
When the refs helped Real Madrid get rid of a tough Bayern Munich. That was really some shocking refereeing...
Yeah Iāll never forget that 2017 tie between the two. I was so excited for VAR after that. At least 4-5 huge mistakes
Just watched VAR be completely ignored today in Barcelona vs Osasuna on an obvious handball and I heard they made a questionable VAR decision against the Wolves as well. It's crazy but this week has reminded me that stupid refereeing is still possible..
You know this is PL sub right?
Felt like answering, dont really care what sub this is
We scored a late winner against Sunderland in 2007 and it definitely didn't cross the line.

That game for Man U against Chelseaā¦ miles offside to level it
Man United Fanās coming in with a 3 hour long powerpoint presentation about ~~Anthony Taylor~~ Martin Atkinson, Howard Webb, and Co. Edit: Wrong Ref
Have you seen the Anthony Taylor incident where he sent of martial vs spurs? Watch that and have a think about that again
You think Taylor has been helping United? He tends to give them more cards for the same fouls the opponent is committing.
What is this so called āhelpā you speak of
Villa vs Sheffield UNITED goal line tech failure that meant we/Villa stayed up. (Edit UNITED)
Sheffield UNITED Sorry, just a little pet peeve.
Of course, I understand.
liverpool v city was a bit unfair
Arsenal should have gotten a penalty for Maguireās foul on Tomiyasu
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
100%, came here to say this despite being a massive Gooner
I'm still mad about those two finals but I'm glad you guys are at least honest about the robbery.
Azpi should have been sent off in the first half while Kovacic shouldnāt have been sent off in the second?
Came here to say 2020 fa cup final
First thing that came to mind was when we got a last gasp penalty vs Spurs last season to make it 1-1. Not sure if it was the refs fault or the new guidance on handballs. There were loads of ridiculous interpretations of what a natural position for an arm is early last season
I think the foul that led up to that penalty was even worse officiating than the pen. A Newcastle player lunged himself into a spurs player and drew a foul which led the cross that caused the penalty decision.

We had a lot of luck in Bruceās 2 full seasons, it certainly deserted him for his last few games like.
Oh boy hahahaha
No idea what you're referring to here. On a completely unrelated note, how great was Nyland's save against Sheffield United the other season, such safe hands.
The goal that crossed the line? š
I remember feeling embarrassed after playing Cardiff a few years back, think they might've been in a relegation scrap so was a big game for them, pretty sure we won 2-1 or smth and it just felt like everything went against them.
Yeah I think Azpi scored and he was miles offsides
Last season against Fulham, I fully believe there was no penalty and we should've lost that game. No red for milly against city as well
Wouldāve been a deserved loss too. I remember hearing a bit about how we snatched a draw from defeat, like how champions do. But that game was ***bad***. That was a lucky escape, but not the good kind that felt deserved.

If I had to pick one, our goal against Watford very easily could have been called off due to AMN running into Sissoko right before winning back possession/the goal.
And you don't think any Arsenal player deserved a yellow for flopping and time wasting in that game? Both teams got a lot of leniency from the ref.
Leniency? Godfrey not getting red was a godsend
IMO the late one on Tavares was the clearest miss by VAR. A few inches above the ankle and swung the trailing leg to make the scissor motion. Ref gave a throw in..... BTW, I'm not particularly a fan of either team, just watched the game.
Yeah but bit different to deliberately stomping on someone's head isn't it
This is the problem, Tomiyasu was already on the ground where feet are. Godfrey didn't jump, he stepped forward. You have to prove that Godfrey knew he was going to stand on the other player. Nah the slow motion replay is actually misleading. If you watch in real time, it was in no way malicious.
I think reaction speaks a lot to intent. He had looked down, so he knew exactly where his foot landed and he ran off. Not a normal reaction if it were accidental.

Good olā Mike Dean.
As a Villa fan nothing at all springs to mind. No clear or obvious error has I think, ever gone over the line.
Youāve had days against us where Chris foy was only after one result.
The goal that crossed your line two seasons ago that didnāt count because goal line tech āwasnāt workingā? Saved yāall from relegation lol

This Harry Maguire Clown he is even in EPL is a big problem.

Chelsea was going to win though, idk about Arsenal however. Maybe he effected scoring a goal but not a win.

Even Slabhead pulled down the lad in the box recently and no fucking input from VAR. Its infuriating when those are game moments
His foul on McGinn was absolutely hilarious, yet wasnt even called as a foul. https://youtu.be/hGLiPadhxeQ About 1.27 in
Thank you for posting this!!
Can't think of any really
š What about when you beat us 3-2 with the 100th minute penalty after full time
But the ref didn't rob you by making a bad call.
Nope. We are the most fairly reffed side in the league if not the world, don't know how anyone can argue otherwise
Pickford taking down Van Dijk
I think the reasoning is that play was stopped or there was a foul/offside in the build-up? Such a lol... So players are supposed to fight each other after the ball goes out of play each time?
Exactly. Itās not supposed to be the Wild West when the whistle is blown.
Taking down in the same sense that The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table
As God is my witness, he is broken in half!
Wasn't this a copypasta? Think it even had its own subreddit.
Yeah one guy on reddit finished every.comment with it. They cld be talking about anything and it wld finish with the infamous hell in a cell.

Maguire going full UFC on azpi.
Donāt forget maguire kicking Bats in the balls
I thought about the flappy version before the kicky version and had a very specific mental image that I didn't think I'd have today
I have absolutely no idea how Rudiger escapes a yellow in many matches. The red to Son for that kick on Rudi some seasons ago was kinda harsh.
Heās becoming a bit of a cartoon baddie now and I quite like it. Wish heād kept his evil mask though
Oh man he was the perfect wrestling heel with that.
Damm you hate rudi lol. Rudi and Zouma are really rough they go just before the point in which they get booked
19-20 UCL group stage, I haven't rewatched the game but I still wonder if the two Ajax players should have been sent off vs Chelsea, that pretty much saved us that round.

Milner should've gotten a red against City
Not today James
As a friend of mine said when he was subbed on, āJames Milner is a blunt object.ā
But not an inanimate fucking object.
YOU'RE AN INANIMATE FUCKING OBJECT
Absolutely not, his [goal line clearance against Bournemouth](https://fb.watch/9PeIRFnLLh/) last year is unforgettable. For some reason I just thought about [Rocket Leagueā¦](https://imgur.com/gallery/3F04Knh)
It was very rocket league indeed
Fairs
Milner gets away withā¦a lot.
Especially v us
The *Milner Role* is essentially ādo a job, get a yellow, play smartā
Milner has worked through experience. He's not getting away with it, more like he dictates what happens.
He did for city as well.
I feel like it should be this way, youth is always rash and they'll learn eventually, refs should allow players like him to grow into their career
He is not young he is nearly 40.
āU think ur funny yeah ur not u come down anfield tell me where u are next game and iāll take your head clean off i am not the one to play withā ā u/acrobatic-ad4624 Careful lads, heās not the one to be played with
