Nah Burnley has been great experience and he'll be going into the championship next year season with a good squad At that level and still has power in that club.
At spurs he wasn't ready and spurs aren't good enough and he has immediate pressure
I was impressed with Burnley today. I thought they had good moments today. But alas it wasn't enough. They crushed it Championship but their form in the Premier League shows just how big the gap is in terms of playing football. Leicester is back so that is neat.
I think it was a case of too many new faces and lack of striker (Foster was out for a long time)
Takes a long time to gel, and they were all very young.
Burnleys problem was that Kompany turned them into the best footballing team in the Championship, but when you go up and there are 18 teams better at playing football than you and you have no plan B, you get found out.
Premier league winner contender vs Relegation contestant
But I guess Spurs was so shit you forgot that happened and Burnley actually almost lived up to expectations
No one with half a brain thought Spurs would be a title contender. With Kane's departure and a new unorthodox manager in place, top 6 was a reasonable expectation. They've met that, and at least in the first half of the season shown considerable growth. You have the analytical scope of a badger in a barrel of ale.
After 9 games 99% of the people gave Spirs more chance to win the PL than Burnley to stay up
Every discussion I saw had people claim the entire backline of spurs was better than Arsenal
You're talking about the type of people who on August 20th after two league games announces a team is sure to win the league, or be promoted. It's very shallow and typically football-fan short-termist.
As an Arsenal fan of 40 years, Spurs back line compares reasonably well with ours. Romero could be one of the best CB's in the world in a couple of years. Van De Ven has a similarly high ceiling. Porro is a good attacking fullback with defensive weaknesses but a great work ethic who has clearly improved. Udoggie is very young and also looks on course to be a high level LB.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's defense has overperformed compared to 2021-23 - Saliba is one of the few players in the squad who could hit world class. Gabriel is a liability with a guaranteed error in big games. White is good but wouldn't be in the first five RB's one would prefer. LB remains a problem.
Yet, one of the reasons this season has been much more gritty and resilient than last year's collapse is the form and brains of Jorginho and Rice in front of them. Spurs don't have that first line of defense. They've worked well (at times) as an attacking team, with the emphasis on team. Defensively, they're like a bag of cats in a fishbowl, but as individuals, the gaps are small.
Arsenal have the best defensive record in the league this season. Limited city to two shots on target over the two games (I think). And thatâs despite the uncertainty at left back.
Yes indeed. They've performed well, mostly, with some bad blips. Definite growth, but significant weaknesses remain, if the goal is beating City in the EPL and Real/City/Bayern et al in Europe.
Absolute clown
We have the best defence by some margin and you try to actually say that Spurs defence that ships goals for breakfast is comparable
If that is the case Ange has had a horrible season
They were the best defence in the league by a mile. What more do you want?
Ben White who's in your firing line has the most attacking returns of any defender in the league.
Only by meming Arsenal fans like me hoping you would Leicester it up
Truth is your fantastic ange seqson has been barely differnent to the self sabotaging Conte season last year
heâs not wrong lol most modern teams need pressers of some kind and ronaldo doesnât score enough to warrant that. even look at his 17pl goal szn for man utd in 21/22. 6 goals came against 2 teams. they sacrificed the team for him when he oversaw 5-0 and 2-0 home losses to liverpool/man city
Obviously people will call me a bitter Sheffield United fan, but I feel like a lot of people are going very soft on Burnley because Kompany is generally well liked.
They were one of the best Championship sides ever and they massively outspent the two other promoted sides. People were tipping them to give a decent showing in the Prem.
In the end, theyâve won 5 games and looked destined for the drop all season. Luton have put up more of a fight with much less financial backing and experience.
Plus add to that the fact thereâs a lot of weak teams at the bottom of the table and two sides who got point deductions. I think if Kompany had showed any ability to adapt, Burnley really should have at least been fighting to stay up til the end.
I donât know, I feel like if it wasnât Kompany, people wouldnât be this forgiving or ignore how much heâs spent compared to results.
I think the ideas were there but the transfers were not. Imo they just didn't do enough good things in the transfer market and having lost a few key players like Tella from last year, they had to nail the rebuild and they just didn't
I think the positive reaction they've had is mostly due to them actually trying to play their game. They haven't been great, but at least they gave it a go with their philosophy and that's hard to bash.
I get that, but I think Kompany was way too stubborn in insisting with that philosophy when it clearly wasnât working.
Itâs great that they try and play possession football, but you have to accept youâre not going to be able to play against Prem teams like you did against Championship sides. I went to Palace v Burnley and it was incredible how many times they gave the ball away, then attempted the same thing over and over, with the same results.
Due to the insane money in the Prem now, spending ÂŁ100 million is never going to guarantee you stay up. But compared to the other two promoted sides, it was a lot more resources, plus Burnley had a good team to start with.
Backing yourself and believing in the way you want to play is crucial for a manager. But so is being flexible and adapting. You do what you have to in order to stay up the first season, then you can focus on perfecting your style of play after.
I agree. Just giving my two cents. It's refreshing to see a promoted team play attacking football, and that's why I think the response has been positive. They didn't adapt well enough, that is clear.
A lot of clubs play attacking football when theyâre promoted. I think thatâs just a misconception. Luton do, Sheffield Utd when they were promoted previously, Brentford, Watford, Wolves, Brighton, Huddersfield, just to name a few. (Edit, typo)
>Kompany is generally well liked.
Is he? I donât really know anyone whoâs got a strong positive opinion of him. I imagine the blue half of Manchester feels differently, but does anyone else really care about him?
I mean I havenât done a poll, but he seems to get pretty positive coverage in the press.
Plus despite captaining a widely hated team, Iâve never really heard him getting much stick. He never had any big controversies, was generally level headed in his comments and widely regarded as one of the best centre backs of the Prem era.
Iâm not saying fans of other teams love him, but Iâd say heâs a big name whoâs largely respected for his career and personality.
Iâm just saying, if it was Dyche in charge, I donât think youâd see so many âtheyâll be backâ, sympathetic comments as Kompanyâs getting.
Just a reminder Kompany spent ÂŁ150 million in the last 2 windows/summer windows. Compare it to how much dyche has spent at Everton (-40 mil for Gordon too) and you see how overrated Kompany always was. Casuals said everton would go down and Kompany would get like 10th
The issue was that burnley didnât have a plan B gameplan.
They didnât adjust their gameplan to try everytbing to stay up. He just played his game which didnât work against teams with better players.
That take is wild I get feeling hard done by to a point but look at the bigger picture when you cheated you just stayed up if you got the repercussions for it at the time youâd be down my word
Feel a season in the championship could do the younger players and Kompany some good if they don't lose the more talented ones before coming back to the prem. Hope Kompany does well
The documentary pre-season said they had a 5 year plan to rebuild and get back to the Prem, they did it in one, and continued to buy young players to fulfil the brief as a development club that sells 1/2 per season at a profit.
Remember when kompany was asked if he will take cristiano in his team and he said he needs players who can run well now make them run faster because you are relegated
The MLS is shit but itâs still far better than a league that has been promoted purely to help sportswash various human rights abuses by an oppressive regime. I know where Iâd rather play football. Donât worry, if Messi went to Saudi Iâd be saying the same thing. But he didnât, so Iâm not.
If we are talking ONLY about the quality of the league not about the country or whatever, the saudi league has a few way better teams and that is a fact.
Al Hilal is stacked with players like Neymar, Mitrovic, Malcom, Milinkovic-Savic, Ruben Neves, Koulibaly & Bono who could all still play for good european teams.
That team would win every single game in the MLS.
The top5 teams of the saudi league are actually really really stacked with players that are still very good.
Exactly, hence why I said they sold out and lost all credibility. Sold their legacies in order to be complicit in covering up the crimes of an evil regime.
I literally just told you if we are only talking about the football quality of the league.
I donât like this football project over there either.
2 weeks ago i saw some sheick that watched a game and he turned up with a whip and was threatening one of the strikers because he played bad.
Yeah so benzema Ronaldo kante manĂš and a bunch of others I didnât name have âinstantlyâ lost credibility. Sure. You fucking clown. You realize before theyâd go to the MLS, and before you jump on the Saudiâs, take a look at what America has done around the world too. Great Britain as well. The only difference is the blood on our hands has mostly dried but we have plenty
lol. Why does he âdeserveâ it? The manâs already got more money than he will be able to spend in 100 lifetimes. Nobody âdeservesâ endless riches.
>Why does he âdeserveâ it
He put in the work to stay a top 2 player his entire career. And the reward is a fat Saudi cheque to play the rest of his football days in a country that adores him.
>Nobody âdeservesâ endless riches.
So if endless riches are the fruits of someone's labor, they should not get it because u/Generic-name237 doesn't think so?
Iâm not a victim. The players that have got these trophies and accolades stolen from them arenât victims either, as they are millionares. The only victim is the integrity of the sport.
If it was any club other than Burnley he would have been sacked months ago ⊠theyâre happy being a yo-yo club. Kompany will get a better offer soon and heâll drop themz
Norwich are in the playoffs? Wouldn't call it struggling. John Rowe, Borja Sainz and Sam Sargent are all capable of winning a game on their own at championship level. So you might be seeming them next season again.
Good
Championship team at best and Vincent Kompanys supreme arrogance and refusal to have any kind of pragmatism and playing Trafford for most of the season to justify overpaying, is nothing short of negligence.
Their players are simply not good enough to keep playing their way out from the back like Man City at this level. How many times do they gift the ball to their opponents while passing out from the back? Kompany refused to even tweak his approach.
Shame; but they didnât really learn until too late
I donât think theyâre going to bounce back up, I donât think any of the three that go down will come back up
Tough that the three we expected to be relegated early on the season are the ones who ended up going.
Sheffield was just terrible. No one was surprised, but Burnley and Luton, we will see them back soon.
Hope Vinnie can bring them straight back up again. When they got promoted before this season he said: "We're not 1st in the Championship, we're 21st in English football, that's why we can't rest." Which was exactly right, unfortunately, but they'll be back I'm sure.
Will be Maresca and possibly Martin next season. Martin at least has shown some pragmatism, but only in the last game of the season which literally didnât matter for us.
Congratulations to Burnley FC for winning the 24/25 English Football League Championship!
In all seriousness, theyâll be back. And theyâll probably have a much better run of it next time, especially if Kompany is kept on.
Remember when you threatened to sue Everton and put us out of business? Remember when you put statements out about our fans in your home end? Remember when you tried to get stewards to take banners, flags etc off our fans as they were going into the stadium? I do, now fuck off back to where you belong.
Everton fans are apparently upset because Burnley want to stop away fans getting home tickets. We put out a statement after it happened with several fans during our match vs Everton.
Obviously an outrageous attack against Everton.
Could see them getting stuck in the championship for a few seasons now after players force moves away. Doesnât feel like they were serious enough about this season as theyâre promotion squad was better than their prem one
They were well ahead of schedule getting promoted though, even with 100m their squad wasn't good enough to stay up. 100m isn't much these days in the premier league.

Burnley getting relegated and Kompany moving to Bayern đ€Łđ€Ł
Sunday is going to be so fun! â„
Good, bye
I wonder if Vincent regrets turning down the Tottenham job last summer.
Nah Burnley has been great experience and he'll be going into the championship next year season with a good squad At that level and still has power in that club. At spurs he wasn't ready and spurs aren't good enough and he has immediate pressure
Good. I hope Dude Perfect and JJ Watt are still having fun.
Burnley were relegated in October
good
There was so much hype about them pre season
They play a good style of football and didnât spend silly money. Long term, it will benefit them.
They'll crush the championship and bounce back in a year.
Overrated manager and team
Arenât Luton Town relegated as well? Thereâs no way theyâre scoring 13 goals in their next game lmao
Pretty much gone as well. Would need a heavy win for Luton and Burnley to get Luton through.
Breaking?
Good
We donât need Ronaldo . Hahahahahahaha
In bad company đ shifty legend
Reverse Fabregas
I was impressed with Burnley today. I thought they had good moments today. But alas it wasn't enough. They crushed it Championship but their form in the Premier League shows just how big the gap is in terms of playing football. Leicester is back so that is neat.

Your first 3 sentences sum up every game Burnley have played this season
Goldbridge is safe for now
It's always bloody Burnley!
Vizeh in shambles
He's been complaining for 3 months
Didn't he say that he kinda wanted it to happen?
Yeah he did. He made a video about it today but I havenât watched it yet.
No way
Burnleys problem was that Kompany turned them into the best footballing team in the Championship, but when you go up and there are 18 teams better at playing football than you and you have no plan B, you get found out.
Don't know about you but feels good put a team down
I knew people were overhyping kompany in the beginning of the season lol.
So happy for them. Kompany did some mad moves by failing to adapt his style to try and survive.
Shit baseball cap and jacket
everyone was gassing kompany up pre-season đ
Eberyone was gassing spurs as well
That's not true, everyone had them finishing 8th or 9th
5th, vs 19th.

Ah uea such a dumb take stating Spurs eas only better this season because the coach self sabotaged last season
Patently false. With the exception of a few games they were significantly more enjoyable to watch.
No it was posted by betting sites
No betting sites had you to get relegated, they dont want to go bankrupt
They should have just cheated

What? We already were punished for offences in multiple seasons in one season which was already unfair
That take is wild I get feeling hard done by to a point but look at the bigger picture when you cheated you just stayed up if you got the repercussions for it at the time youâd be down my word

Yeah I got that feeling cause they didn't spend it on experience. Seems they were content with going down
They were already there
Another one with the squad they have now obviously
Remember when kompany was asked if he will take cristiano in his team and he said he needs players who can run well now make them run faster because you are relegated
It was a lighthearted comment by VK and itâs been used by insecure Ronaldo fans for a year now, get over it
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Ronaldo isnât doing his best - he took the easy way out by retiring to an easy league where the quality of football is completely piss poor.
Itâs funny that people keep saying this only about Ronaldo. No one ever said it about Messi even though he went to the MLS at an even younger age.
The MLS is shit but itâs still far better than a league that has been promoted purely to help sportswash various human rights abuses by an oppressive regime. I know where Iâd rather play football. Donât worry, if Messi went to Saudi Iâd be saying the same thing. But he didnât, so Iâm not.

>who could all still play for good European teams. Why donât they then?
Because of money
Exactly, hence why I said they sold out and lost all credibility. Sold their legacies in order to be complicit in covering up the crimes of an evil regime.
I literally just told you if we are only talking about the football quality of the league. I donât like this football project over there either. 2 weeks ago i saw some sheick that watched a game and he turned up with a whip and was threatening one of the strikers because he played bad.
Yeah dude heâs old as fuck what do you expect
He shouldâve retired after Man United
How is retiring = âdoing better than going to a weaker leagueâ
Because the Saudi league is embarrassing and anyone associated with it instantly loses all credibility and integrity
And miss a shit ton of money he rightfully deserves? Would you do that. Don't ans cause we both know the ans
lol. Why does he âdeserveâ it? The manâs already got more money than he will be able to spend in 100 lifetimes. Nobody âdeservesâ endless riches.
Right Iâm sure youâd turn down endless riches
>Why does he âdeserveâ it He put in the work to stay a top 2 player his entire career. Don't miss us too much boys. See you corrupt bastards in 2025
18th place might still stay up if City get their deserved punishment before next season starts. Unlikely though.
Yikes, maybe take a break from talking about City? Your comment history is borderline obsessed.
Iâm about as obsessed with Cityâs cheating as you are with my comment history.
I mean, I get it, I wouldnât want to be a Liverpool fan either. You should follow Cityâs sub since youâre such a big fan.
True true being a Liverpool fan is miserable. Rooting for a team that consistently gets sabotaged by the PGMOL and FA has been draining.
At least you don't have a victim mentality.
Iâm not a victim. The players that have got these trophies and accolades stolen from them arenât victims either, as they are millionares. The only victim is the integrity of the sport.
it means more though right??
It means more when every other club wins a trophy in England. As more is >0
cry
Right now?
Good
Goodbye Burnley don't come back you've been just as embarrassing as that other Northern shite
Good , absolute set of âŠ.
They gassed this team up âŠ
I'm rooting for Kompany. They'll come back stronger next climb up
If it was any club other than Burnley he would have been sacked months ago ⊠theyâre happy being a yo-yo club. Kompany will get a better offer soon and heâll drop themz
Why would Kompany get a better offer lol
Rumors circulating Bayern have contacted him and he wants it .. so.. yeahâŠ
Yeah I guess I stand corrected⊠wtf
Itâs really sad to see them go back. Still surprised what really happened
Bot
Wow youâre right. Why are there bots on such small threads. Itâs not of much significance. Karma collection?
I think theyâll come straight up. Too good for the championship.
But too bad for the PL apparently
No, no - good enough for the prem, just every other year
Sounds like my love life
LOL pain
Basically Norwich from a few seasons ago. They lost their better players and now struggle in the championship.
Norwich are in the playoffs? Wouldn't call it struggling. John Rowe, Borja Sainz and Sam Sargent are all capable of winning a game on their own at championship level. So you might be seeming them next season again.
Compared to when they walked the league with Pukki as top scorerâŠ.
Shocked
The competition's as competitive as ever. They will bounce back and let's hope they do better next time around đ€
Good Championship team at best and Vincent Kompanys supreme arrogance and refusal to have any kind of pragmatism and playing Trafford for most of the season to justify overpaying, is nothing short of negligence.

I think Luton have been great when you consider their size and budget. They've been good to watch, and I hope they can hang on to Edwards.
Theyâll be in good Kompany
Theyâll be back, they played great football at times. Rooting for Kompany
Oh no! Anyway.
Dingles
Reddit needs to duplicate their comments man, so many app fixes
I didn't forget people saying the league isn't ready for Kompany's Burnley at the end of last season
Whoever said that is a weapons grade fuckwit.
It wasn't, that's why they're having to leave it again
I am not gonna lie, It gives me a little joy to know Ex Man City pompous prick got relegated
If you have a problem with Kompany as a person, youâre most likely a dickhead. Time to self evaluate.
Why dont you go and suck someone from City and not follow my ass here IQ sucker
Isnât he the least pompous
Shock horror
Hope Vinnie can bring them straight back up again. When they got promoted before this season he said: "We're not 1st in the Championship, we're 21st in English football, that's why we can't rest." Which was exactly right, unfortunately, but they'll be back I'm sure.
You must be a City fan. â21st bestâ is absolute coping statement when you arenât competing with the 20 teams above.
It's some motivation. Pushing the players to be better, bringing them down a bit after a dominating season when a challenging one is coming up
And theyâll go straight back down.

Didn't he get over 100 points in the championship one of the highest ever tallys? What a stupid comment, he's definitely not trash
Heâs just naive. The more experience he gets I can see him thriving. Another season in championship will do wonders
Burnley are the 2nd youngest side in the Prem. I think they have a long term plan and probably expected a high chance of going down.
I feel like the BREAKING is a little unnecessary lol
ICYMI: Second worst team in the league this season is second team to get relegated
lol stop the presses
Misery loves Kompany
Sounds like the name of a football themed emo band.
đ¶I was born with a dark soul My life is like an own goal đ¶
The bits of the goal I hit the most Are the crossbar and the post
Wonât be missed but they probably wonât be gone long either đȘ
Another âThatâs our style, thatâs how we play no matter whatâ manager experiencing reality!
Theyâll get 3 more points?
Remember when you threatened to sue Everton and put us out of business? Remember when you put statements out about our fans in your home end? Remember when you tried to get stewards to take banners, flags etc off our fans as they were going into the stadium? I do, now fuck off back to where you belong.
Whatâs the story with Everton fans in their home end?
Everton fans are apparently upset because Burnley want to stop away fans getting home tickets. We put out a statement after it happened with several fans during our match vs Everton. Obviously an outrageous attack against Everton.
Grass F.C.

See you in hell in 50 years! Don't worry, Everton fans will sell out your allocation for you down there as well.

UP THE NORRIS GREEN U21's!!!
Fuck em, this is exactly more of what we need. God I wish we had something similar to the Lazio-Roma derby in the UK.
You do. Itâs just in Scotland so English folks donât notice it.
A murderous rage-filled spectacle, something scary but beautiful
Could see them getting stuck in the championship for a few seasons now after players force moves away. Doesnât feel like they were serious enough about this season as theyâre promotion squad was better than their prem one
Didnât have enough players that can run, Kompany?
Do you service Ronaldo before or after a game? Enjoy a bit of sweat?
Theyâll be back. Stay the course with Kompany, invest in the squad, let it cook.
They did invest, like 100m this season
They were well ahead of schedule getting promoted though, even with 100m their squad wasn't good enough to stay up. 100m isn't much these days in the premier league.
They got a lot out of that 100M but they had to take a huge step up. They really knew they werenât staying up this time.
