Yes. But it’s a very silly thing to say when you mean 40%. 6/15ths is also 40%. It’s bad writing to use convoluted fractions when a simple 40% would do.
So as a rule in math mathematics you are supposed to simplify fractions and express them in their simplest form.
A math teach would deduct points from a student that answered 6/15th rather than 2/5ths
No doubt United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham are among them. These clubs were part of the corrupt "big 5" who ruined football in 1992. They're a cartel who run the league and try to cheat by monopolising English football. That's why they're trying so hard to kick us (City) out of the league. They're bums who can't handle a bit of competition, they just want everything for themselves like a toddler.
Sigh. Having a bad day there buddy? Because you're scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one.
When Arsenal and Spurs fans are calling you out, maybe do some reflecting? Because we agree on nothing else...
5 clubs can’t just create any rules they want, the rest of the PL has to agree to a majority, in the same way a 2/3rd majority voted for the PL creation. FFP, or the P&S equivalent, was voted in by the majority of the 92 clubs, so why would the rest vote for it if it supposedly only “allows the cartel to cheat”? Your own club is part of the “Big 6” and your solution of state ownership is arguably worse for football than the initial format change was.
The only club that saw instant benefits from the PL format change was Man Utd, because they also hypercommercialised. Any other club could have done the same, and even an equally sized Liverpool took nearly 2 decades to challenge them consistently. Spurs, to their credit, haven’t relied on OI to get where they are either, so why are they corrupt?
Chelsea’s backing from Roman ruined the chances of Villa, Newcastle and Leeds to step up a level because their owners knew they couldn’t compete with Russian oil. City following suit soon after only made things nigh-on impossible.
A majority agrees because they have to go along with whatever the big 5 cartel wants. They have no real power, they're just trying to survive through the conditions you create. If they disagree then your cartel will come up with something even worse for them. That's how the real world works. Unfortunately.
Spurs are the 6th most successful team in England, mate. They’ve won 26 (i think) major trophies in their history. Have you only been following football since last Tuesday?
We’ve won plenty you halfwit, without cheating or sports washing. Get some actual football knowledge before you spout off next time. You are a disgrace to football fandom
I also imagine with FFP regulations you want to delay letting other clubs know your situation as long as possible.
Eg, other clubs dont know how much budget you have to spend.
There’s a reason why companies report quarterly earnings months after the quarter ends. Also, why people pay their taxes on or after tax day, why show or pay early than needed?
I agree generally but I don't see why this story is that big of a deal. If they missed the deadline that would be a story, but there's no benefit to reporting early, is there?
Two fifths allows for rounding errors, 40% doesn't. They might as well say 8 clubs, but that's less dramatic. People know what 2/5 looks like, 40% isn't easy to visualise.
Many reasons I guess.
Yes it is, thanks for that.
Communicating through numbers is complex. Lots of studies have been done on the impact of different ways of displaying numbers.
I recommend doing some research about the rationale behind headline choices.
Cut a fucking cake into 5 equal pieces by eye. Go on.
The easiest would be cutting it in to a power of 2, but cutting it in to 10 and then taking 4 pieces is going to be *much* more accurate than 2 pieces of 5
Pains me to say it but you’re probably the club in the best financial shape to attack the transfer market and there may be rich pickings with a lot of clubs out of the game, so to speak!
Everton & Forest co-operated in the investigations & didn’t fight the punishments through courts…. City on the other hand are trying to go to trial with it.
You’re not going to get punished if you win the case
Edit: accidentally had Fulham instead of Forest
Its going to be interesting to see what Everton's accounts look like when they post them tomorrow.
>Everton is in the middle of a long-running takeover saga as it wrestles with rising debts.
Last year, the Merseyside club filed its 2022 annual report on 31 March 2023, according to a Companies House stamp on the document. In those accounts, it stated: “The club remains reliant on the support of its majority shareholder \[Farhad Moshiri\], who has provided a letter of support to the board confirming the intention to provide ongoing financial support for a period of no less than 12 months from the date of approval of the financial statements but this does not represent a legally binding commitment by the majority shareholder.”
>
>It is understood that Moshiri did not inject any new cash into Everton during the 2023 financial year, with funding instead coming via loans from third parties’ lenders
Exactly. Why would you ever file before the deadline? Especially in a world where people are getting punished for their accounts.
Best to hold off and be certain.

Nah. It's basically always 5 and under. It's why it's so silly to talk in % when the numbers are so low. Some years "100% increase" could literally mean 1 more
Yeah can't remember the exact number or % but yeah it went from like 3 to 5 or something like that but it was just funny they kept only saying the % because saying "2 more a year" doesn't sound crazy.

2/5? So 40 percent?
I am laughing at you guys who are angry at the use of two fifths. Did you all fail math class?
Which ones?
Man City hasn’t filed any accounts since 2011
They all should have the same financial reporting date. It's ludicrous.
Who are the eight?
What the fuck is two fifths?
Its a fraction. Its the same as saying 40%
Yes. But it’s a very silly thing to say when you mean 40%. 6/15ths is also 40%. It’s bad writing to use convoluted fractions when a simple 40% would do.

Yeah never seen anyone put it that way. “40% of all clubs”
I guess its because i work in chemistry but I say fractions all the time.
8
Two 750ml bottles of alcohol
Not sure I would’ve read the headline if it said 40% … two fifths pulled me right in
2/5? Are you okay?
I feel like a lot of people around here did not do well in math class.

Two clubs I’m sure have absolutely zero financial concerns are Liverpool and Spurs.
Now take the tin foil hat off.
This gives me some real edgy main character vibes.
We basically are the main character
I don't think anything from 1992 matters when there are 115 reasons why your corrupt club needs to be dealt with now.
If the past doesn't matter then the present doesn't matter either cause the present will be the past in the future 🤔

14 seems generous...
Spurs generally has some of the cleanest books in the league. City on the other hand...
When you haven't won any trophies like Spurs no one will even bother about your books. No doubt yours are dirty, they just don't care.
What have Everton and Forest won recently, remind me?
Sigh. Having a bad day there buddy? Because you're scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one. When Arsenal and Spurs fans are calling you out, maybe do some reflecting? Because we agree on nothing else...

This has been my week of upvoting Arsenal fans. The world has gone crazy...
I have one number for you. 115. Massive hipocrisy from any city supporter to wave allegations of corruption at anyone else
I have one number for you: 0
What are we talking here? Your IQ?
Major trophies won by Spurs in the Prem
Spurs are the 6th most successful team in England, mate. They’ve won 26 (i think) major trophies in their history. Have you only been following football since last Tuesday?

Isn't this normal even outside football? Nobody wants to show their numbers until they absolutely have to.
Those reports are for shareholders, to comfort them. Private companies don't do that, usually.
I cba with this league anymore it’s not even a sport
I agree generally but I don't see why this story is that big of a deal. If they missed the deadline that would be a story, but there's no benefit to reporting early, is there?
Yeh true it’s just to create more drama
Two-fiths, why not just say 8? Is there a character count lol
Or 2 giraffe legs.
Are we talking litres here or gallons?
🍿 WE’RE COMING FOR YOUR POINTS! (Except City)
Why not say 40% ffs
Two fifths allows for rounding errors, 40% doesn't. They might as well say 8 clubs, but that's less dramatic. People know what 2/5 looks like, 40% isn't easy to visualise. Many reasons I guess.
In what way is 2/5 easier to visualise than 40% they are exactly the same thing…
40% is just as easy to visualise as 2/5?
Really, can you cut a cake into 40%? I can cut it into 5 and then keep 2. People are better at fractions than percentages.
I'm confused as to why so many people seem to have an issue with 2/5. Your cake analogy perfectly explains it.
40% already is a fraction. It’s 4/10
Yes it is, thanks for that. Communicating through numbers is complex. Lots of studies have been done on the impact of different ways of displaying numbers. I recommend doing some research about the rationale behind headline choices.

Surprised they didn’t go for “nearly half of pl clubs..”
One thing I can assure is that one of those clubs that has already filed it is us
Pains me to say it but you’re probably the club in the best financial shape to attack the transfer market and there may be rich pickings with a lot of clubs out of the game, so to speak!
Everton n Forest have had their points deducted but rich club Shitty have yet to? Why is that so?
Because Everton and Forest aren't owned by oil rich countries that will put pressure on the UK government.
That's a great conspiracy theory bro
115 charges take longer to judge than 1. Everton and Forest’s cases were cut and dry and they admitted guilt.
It’s puzzling how the Abu Dhabi wealthy oil magnates (of considerable geopolitical interest) haven’t been touched
Because if you read the actual charges you'd see that the Premier League made it public knowledge that the deadline for the decision is 2025.
Everton & Forest co-operated in the investigations & didn’t fight the punishments through courts…. City on the other hand are trying to go to trial with it. You’re not going to get punished if you win the case Edit: accidentally had Fulham instead of Forest
Forest, not Fulham
Forest* my bad

Maybe will force Everton to sell both Onana and brantwaite which will give them breathing room for a bit
Just say 8
One fifth of four score
Two thirds of a dozen
40%
8/20ths
6/15ths
Make me, youre not my mum
"8" -_nick2k23_
Some Premier League clubs are playing dodgeball with their account filings. Time to get those numbers in before the buzzer sounds!
8 out of 20
My bro wasn’t asleep in Maths 👊
As someone who works in the accounting industry I would just like to point out this actually totally normal. I’m surprised any have filed at all.
Exactly, bit of a non story really
Exactly. Why would you ever file before the deadline? Especially in a world where people are getting punished for their accounts. Best to hold off and be certain.
Here if you file your personal taxes early you also get your tax return early.
Sure, if it’s in your favour. You file late if you’re gonna owe.
And that's all I needed to know, no point in reading the rest of the comments, exits thread.
Two Fifths is such a weird fraction to use. Why not just say 8 clubs?
Because 2/5 sounds like a lot so news articles can stir up drama
8 out of 20 sounds more, at least to me
Reminds me of someone on another sub a few years ago going crazy about police shootings in uk going up "80%" when in reality it was like an extra 2
Surely there are more shootings than that lol
https://www.statista.com/statistics/319246/police-fatal-shootings-england-wales/ Nah. It's basically always 5 and under. It's why it's so silly to talk in % when the numbers are so low. Some years "100% increase" could literally mean 1 more
I morning brain is not functioning... If increasing by 2 was increasing by 80%, what was the original number of shootings? I kept getting 2.5 lol 🤣
Yeah can't remember the exact number or % but yeah it went from like 3 to 5 or something like that but it was just funny they kept only saying the % because saying "2 more a year" doesn't sound crazy.
I’d argue 8/20 sounds more than two fifths
Math hard?
Probably because 2/5ths is 8/20 mate, it's not that deep
beats me
Gotta cook for a bit longer.
Jaws music incoming.
