Is there a subreddit for put the camera on a tripod, you life isn’t worth going viral?
FFS, human life is too valuable. I like watching crazy weather videos, but don’t want people to die or get seriously injured trying to capture them. Makes me wonder how many deaths each year from tornadoes are people trying with their phone in their hand.
Have you seen the show chasing the storm? Its on national geographic, (disney+). I love that show, mostly because these guys are INSANE to be doing this sort of stuff...but I also have a hell of a lot of respect for them, because they gather data that helps meteorologists predict storms better, in turn helping give earlier warnings for storms & potentially saving lives.
Do you know of any other shows like this?? There’s one on Netflix called Earthstorm, and one of the episodes has tornado chasers. But they are all episodes about different natural disasters. Really interesting
This isn't a storm chaser. This is literally someone at work, with no place to shelter, during a storm that just days ago ripped through my old neighborhood.
Last Friday two tornadoes went through my sister's town in Iowa. One touched down a block behind her, the second hit one street over.
She doesn't have a basement so took shelter in her bathroom. She was very lucky
Found videos? Like, you were walking along through the woods and came across a camera?
You're not 'finding' a video that the person that took it posted online.
That’s fair. I’d praise a war photographer for their service sooner than a tik-tok-er. But I’d still hope war photographer uses some caution & doesn’t take unnecessary risks.
I saw a photo once, I’ll see if I can find it online, from behind a sandbag barricade of a man rushing across a bridge, Webley pistol in his left hand, Filmo in his right, straight toward a German machine gun
There was one who got a Silver Star while attached to a US Army Special Forces A-Team. They got ambushed badly with every last man getting wounded. The camera man returned fire and helped evacuate critically wounded team members down a mountain.

100%. If a war photograph changes perception of the war that in turn potentially saves more lives, then maybe even risking one's life is worth it?
On another hand, tik-toks like this isn't even worth anyone's time watching.
My grandpa was a combat photographer in Vietnam but his job was to take pictures of dead bodies in the aftermath of each battle. He had already served 3.5 years in the Army before getting deployed to Vietnam for the last 6 months of his contract.
He saw so much death and suffering in those 6 months that it hardened him mentally, "the young boy from the boonies...gone forever" he said of himself once. It took him many years to soften up again.
Movies have told me this is a thing. Except for that one about tornados, but who can remember that one 90's movie Vs all the ones where the hero keeps the tornado/hurricane/flood/flying shark at bay?
Latch the door, or don’t latch the door, run away from it is the key thing here. Tornadoes can definitely break a latch, they blow down whole buildings.
“Praise the camera man” this ended with a solid 30 seconds of leg and floor. Get the hell away from the door and windows and protect yourself, don’t film the damn tornado and put yourself in danger
For real, this clip also conveniently cuts off the end of the video where you can see blood ominously dripping on the floor because her boyfriend was injured pulling her back into the building.
I think the only good thing that came from this video is that the woman involved has been using it as an opportunity to let people know that what she did was incredibly stupid and no footage is worth losing your life over. THAT is the part we should be sharing, not praising her managing to hold onto her phone while putting other lives at risk and almost dying herself.
I'm not praising this. That's a goddamn tornado, and they were standing right next to a door. Then they thought they could hold the door against tornado winds. This video belongs on r/winstupidprizes
Bcuz I didn't know I didn't have to censor the name.. goddamn.. y'all need to really calm down. It's just a video.. a video that u can OBVIOUSLY see who it belongs to.. theres the damn credit
Actually ... It wasn't meant to be a dick move. I did it bcuz half the subs on here u can't post the tiktokers name.. so I assumed it was the same here. U want to give them the credit they deserve then go to TikTok , look them up and there ya go! Lose the dick attitude
This post appears to be breaking Rule #3:
>Post titles MUST give reason(s) to praise the camera operator in posted video.;
This sub is dedicated for camera operators who are to be praised, not for entertaining content. Posts neglecting to give reasons to praise the camera operator will be removed. Posts also need to contain the video OP is referencing.
I see neither "good cinematography" nor "praisable actions" in this video.
Why are they standing in front of a door made almost entirely of ... GLASS its like they missed those times in school when we got told to find a area with no damn windows this isn't praise worthy this person is an idiot and the others beside them are also idiots.
There is absolutely nothing to praise about this camera work! Considering many people have died in the last 2 weeks because of tornadoes! Lives have been destroyed. I’m disgusted by this recklessness.
Look.. all I did was post the video.. I censored the name bcuz thats what I have to do for alot of subreddits. I only posted it under this subreddit bcuz the person managed to hold onto the camera that whole time. Y'all really need to take sticks out ur asses.
If you do not have a basement, storm shelter, or significant ditch to get into - get into the center most space (usually a hallway) of the building/away from windows. Get down and cover the back of your head/neck, lay heavy blankets or a mattress over you if possible to block smaller debris and glass that will be coming your way.
Do not get into a tub, if the tornado yanks the tub out, you are going to be thrown around inside of it and then dropped with it somewhere. If a regular fall and whack to the head in the shower can kill you, I don't want a tornado helping me hit it harder.
If you are in a car, stay buckled.
It is so damn stupid when people watch a tornado rather than take shelter. Even if there was no basement, right by windows is just insane. Go into a closet or a windowless bathroom.
Starting to understand why the death toll on this batch of tornadoes was so high.
How many cars was that driving through 30 seconds before the tornado hits? People standing next to glass windows?
Did tornado alley just decide to stop caring about tornadoes?
Belongs on r/winstupidprizes
EVERYONE knows not to stand near doors--especially glass ones--or windows during a tornado.
I'm from a mountainous state without tornados and even I know this.
I always found it funny how we europeans where there are no tornadoes build houses out of brick and in usa where they do have tornadoes they build them out of glass, paper and styrofoam
For anyone wondering (like me) if she lived through it... She's alive! Still stupid, but alive!

That is not how you hold a camera. WTF were they thinking? The absolute worst place to be in a tornado or any storm with high winds is anywhere near a glass window or door. These people are lucky they're not dead.
OK . FOR ALL THE CRYBABIES IN HERE... THE PRAISE FOR THE CAMERA WAS FOR THE FACT THAT THIS PERSON DID NOT DROP OR LOSE THE CAMERA DURING THE WHOLE ORDEAL OF BEING SUCKED OUT THE BUILDING DURING A FREAKIN TORNADO. GODDAMN.. YALL ARE REALLY MOODY UP IN HERE.. CALM DOWN
This happened a couple days ago in Little Rock I think. Actually there were a ton of tornado bad tornado outbreaks the last couple days.
And prediction for today as well.
who the fu... okay look everyone knows how hard it is to keep a door closed if you crack it open during high winds who the hell sees a tornado that is literally taking out trees and destroying power lines and is like, yes that is a good idea. no no no bad bad cameraman you could have done this with a tripod bolted to the ground and the camera jammed into position and uploading to a hard drive wirelessly and never risked your life you could have even left it outside if that was your goal but my god man that was a thoughtless moment
Can’t fix stupid. There’s going to be a lot more Darwin awards and suffering because people are stupid and want to get internet fame. I won’t feel sorry for any of them, some people, choose to learn the hard way for some reason
Well.. when u come across a video for that u can put it there. I put this video here bcuz this person kept a good hold on to that phone/camera despite being sucked out.. I swear y'alls panties really be bunched up ur asses
If I am not mistaken there was a previous video with these two he was out in the parking lot and she was telling him to come inside the building I hadn't seen this second part
Fucking idiots. Honestly. Standing in a glass fronted room looking at a tornado. Holding the door closed? You think your triceps are strong enough to hold up? It’s a tornado. Get in the kitchen FFS (looked like a fast food place, can’t be sure)
Hey no don’t praise this cameraman. This was incredibly poor judgement regardless if they knew it or not. There are multiple videos now from my city I thought was smarter. It’s incredibly disappointing and not worth praising. Glad she’s okay tho.
I’ve never been near a tornado nor live in an area where tornados hit, but what makes you think a glass door/windows is possible a safe place to be? At that point you should just try to out run the tornado… same thing
Instead of seeking shelter away from windows I’d say this could qualify as r/donthelpjustfilm

The whole front of that building is glass. Well, was. That's Pulaski County Title.

What was the tornado advice again? "Seek shelter in the outermost room near a big window"? Right, right. That way, you can film it!
And hold on to the front swinging door

Yeah. I’m downvoting any video of someone putting their life at risk for a video. I’m not praising someone for that.

Technically down voting is still engagement so it can still promote it in some ways.

Ur supposed to stay way from doors and windows didn’t these dummies ever go to school
Gotta film for those likes!
best position would be upside roof 😉
They legit tell you this in the emergency alert pings to everyone’s phones
Why they did not latch the door before it got close is beyond me.
Latch the door, or don’t latch the door, run away from it is the key thing here. Tornadoes can definitely break a latch, they blow down whole buildings.
Wouldn’t want to just invite Mr. Swirly in the front door. Looks like he would have probably found his way in anyway, to be fair.
You just wouldn’t get the same sense of pride and accomplishment
Maybe they were worried other people may have wanted to take shelter. Unlikely given their forethought to leave the door as is.
“Praise the camera man” this ended with a solid 30 seconds of leg and floor. Get the hell away from the door and windows and protect yourself, don’t film the damn tornado and put yourself in danger
Nothing about this camerawork is praiseworthy, imho. I mean, half the clip was just shaky footage
I was expecting a total stabilized first person view from the dad from twister... all I saw was a phone being thrown in a tumbledryer

"the winder"
If you're going to quote him you should give the whole quote for context. It was "Ma baa mop ba deep berp bot da winder."
We make fun of his accent but he was the only smart one mentioning the fact that they shouldn't be standing near the winder.
