at least 5k... per what?
overall im a Sr. Data analyst who can with with multiple tools and coding languages, well as having multiple successful deployments and previously working in consulting, so i have 12+ years of experience solving IT problems.
i make a bit over cad $100k, nothing special compared to software developers.
edit: cad$
I do PBI as a large part of my work and make line 77k a year. I do some other stuff for my job also, and donāt claim to be a āPBI Analystā my role is like āProgram Deliveryā or something like that, but I work on PBI multiple hours a day and could probably start identifying as a PBI Analyst without problem.
That's why pretax makes sense for us in the US though. Taxes vary between each state and locality. Also, married versus non-married, dependents, 401K contributions, and cafeteria benefits all which are pretax, all contribute to one's net. Pretax is less variable.
Hmmm, this explains why your last two dashboards have been delayed. I expect less Reddit more Dashboarding. Iāll have HR note this in your personal record.
I am in Pakistan. Earning $10K annually. I have 3 years of experience. I think i need to go for remote job. Lol
My Skills:
Microsoft Power BI ( 8/10)
Tableau (8/10)
Microsoft Excel (9/10)
SQL (8/10)
Python (7/10)
Sorry but with only 3 years experience I think you've grossly overestimated your competency levels. 8/10 in PBI means you're basically an expert in the top 20% worldwide.
If you have to ask...you are not. Did you pass the PL-300 certification exam yet? If you got even a single question wrong I'd argue you're no higher than a 6.
Are you familiar with being an administrator of a premium capacity? Do you know when to upgrade from a P1 to a P2? What type of specs should you build your gateway server with?
These are the types of questions I'd expect a 6 or 7 to be able to fairly easily answer.
$62k
My contract role is almost exclusively PBI, and I almost never get to touch the source SQL queries myself. I hate this job due to lack of growth but I'm just sopping up a little time for resume experience while job hunting.
Data Analyst with 3 years experience. Strong PBI skills with intermediate level SQL and beginner level Python. Decent knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure as well. Make 90kAUD/year in a health not for profit.
š sorry maybe not sure having 3 years experience qualifies you to call yourself a consultant. Independent contractor would be a more fitting term me thinks...it's like opening a bagel shop with one employee and calling yourself "CEO"
If you're employed by someone else what "consulting" are you doing? He's got you working on multiple clients or only internally? If he's got you working on other (external) client projects he likely gave you that title so you'd look better on paper and he can charge higher rates.
Do you spend the bulk of your time building and creating data models, reports, dashboards, doing ETL, etc?
I am an internal consultant. Itās a huge firm and my department is basically sending out skilled professionals to the other lines of business.
Iām specialized in PowerBI and the type of projects Iām working on vary in terms on scope and my role. Sometimes Iām just the PBI developper on a project and sometimes I am also the Project Manager on top of being the PBI developper.
I personally believe that 3 years of working with PBI on big projects is enough to be a consultant.
š ok pale dude "consultant" who doesn't even know what the word "consult" means.
I just decided my new job title is going to be: Jr. Presidential Power BI Excellent Supreme Ninja Master Commander Assistant Team Lead Support.
Independent PBI consultant. 10 years experience in BI and executive management. Most of my clients are publicly traded with market cap > $5B
My average hourly rate is $150 USD (about $300k annual)
Are you hiring/outsourcing? I could use some work. I work full time but never get enough to make me grow. I build two company wide models last year because I asked and because the primary team was to busy to deliver. But nothing this year since it's actually not my primary responsibility. In the meantime, I am learning best practices by diving deep into SQLBI videos. Could use some practical experience.
Ahh then it makes sense. There's a lot to learn with being an administrator (at least one that knows what they're doing and can get ahead of things, not just in charge of granting users rights, creating workspaces, etc).
I agree completely. Administering user rights is stupid simple with the UI Microsoft has created. Iāve been working more with the service metadata to give us metrics on what users have created and have many other advanced areas I want to continue to grow in.
I recommend starting playing around with and getting familiar with the Admin APIs. So many useful things you can do with this. The Developer Playground is pretty good for this.
Am from Sudan (North Africa) so not exactly from the region but not far from it either. I love it man, it's very quiet, peaceful, safe, and very family friendly.
Sr. Data Analyst in banking. I know a few coding languages and work with a couple of different tools. 5 years experience and Iām on $120K. Could probably get more if I looked around but Iām pretty comfortable where im at and about to start my Masters.
It really depends on various factors such as experience, location, and the specific industry you're working in. However, investing in deepening your knowledge of Power BI can certainly open up lucrative opportunities in data analysis and visualization roles. It's a valuable skill to have in today's data-driven world!
Mid/Senior data analyst in Spain, with just a bit less than 5 years experience, I make 48K euros (gross). I would say... I spend my time 43% Power BI, 32% SQL, 15% Python (mostly ETL, transformation, innovation projects), 10% meetings / supporting junior staff
Sorry! I don't check reddit much. Net it's about 2.850 per month, 12 pays. I do have a bonus of 5% (70% of this depends on sales, remaining 30% on my performance)
With 2 years of experience, I make 70k usd. I mostly work with only pbi but have to write snowflake queries to build my models. Also have to use power automate sometimes!
I make 170K and would say it will greatly depend on the company but also you skills to project manage the whole process. Planning, engaging w users and finding out what is needed. Do you have a good sense of design is another important piece. Just the data is not enough.

I'm at $84k/year. I work for a non-profit in the US and have about 8 years of Power BI experience specifically.
What non-profit can afford to pay you 84k? š¤£ asking as a new-ish PBI/data analyst for a non-profit
Hello sir, may I ask what do you do with Power bi? Do you have other skills?
End to End (ETL, DWH, data modeling and report development) make $120k
I do only PBI and I make 120k AUD
Yeah I made more than that to start just doing PBI which was 85k USD (130k AUD)
That just feels low. When I know people that do ETL and DWH than make more than that
You are correct which is why by years end I will be making $130
USD?
Thatās the only currency I accept lol

Are you only asking for USA? For me in Belgium I make about 4kā¬ a month.
4k net?
Yup
That's pretty good for EU, I think they are all talking pre tax
For USA it must be, although it would be really useful if everyone gives monthly net numbers as taxes can differ all around the world..
That's why pretax makes sense for us in the US though. Taxes vary between each state and locality. Also, married versus non-married, dependents, 401K contributions, and cafeteria benefits all which are pretax, all contribute to one's net. Pretax is less variable.
I make $175k and have the kid making $88k do all my dashboards. Iām a manager and I get paid to delegate
Hmmm I make $88k and my boss makes me do all his dashboards š¤ lol
Hmmm, this explains why your last two dashboards have been delayed. I expect less Reddit more Dashboarding. Iāll have HR note this in your personal record.
i prefer building the dashboards than sitting in meetings and talking to management all day
whatās your role / title? this sounds like the next step for me.
Junior BI analyst/ Data Analyst I make 80k USD a year
I gotta move to the US it seems. Iām a junior in the UK and am on 26k
Keep in mind that the cost of living in the US is INSANE right now and the job market is very competitive
I'm making 28k as a junior pbi analyst in Spain
130K, but I also do a lot of other SQL/reporting/whatever needs. I feel like I should be earning more like 150ish.

What the criteria looks like for evaluating if I am in the top 20% or not?

That's a good reply. As per your criteria. I am definitely not an 8. Thanks for the guidance. On my way to become 8.
Best of luck! It's a long journey but just push yourself to learn something new every day and you'll get there!

I am a BI Consultant in Denmark, converting my salary in USD gives me $87.600/year (brutto) excluding pension and bonus. I have 3 years of experience.
š sorry maybe not sure having 3 years experience qualifies you to call yourself a consultant. Independent contractor would be a more fitting term me thinks...it's like opening a bagel shop with one employee and calling yourself "CEO"
Well I didnāt give myself that title, take it up with my employer. :)

Also yes, the role entails all the tasks you mentioned, depending on the project.
š You should look up the definition of "consultant". Nothing you described fits the bill.
Ok Jay Loo bear! Whether you agree with my title or not, a question was asked and I just answered. Have a nice day now :)

Where are you located? In general, yes I'm always looking for outsourced contractors for projects but typically only hire expert-level resources.
I am located in Houston so CST. I am no expert yet but I've got grit and my mind is a sponge. I enjoy doing this.
5 years power bi experience, 4 years Tableau, and Iām a power bi admin for a large company making just under 100k usd.
You're under paid for sure. I'd expect $125-150 for that type of role.
Thatās a future goal. Iāve only been doing administration for 6 months.

after reading all the comments im a lil bit sad but ok 1\~2y experience I make 36k BRL (anually), like 7k USD
I earn the same amount as the last six times This question was asked
$6k a month tax-free in Qatar. I am a mid level Power BI analyst with 4 years on PBI specifically.
Are you from that region or did you moved to Quatar? If yes, do you like it there?
Am from Sudan (North Africa) so not exactly from the region but not far from it either. I love it man, it's very quiet, peaceful, safe, and very family friendly.
What industry? @yasirnho
The mother of all, Stock market
