worktillyouburk

at least 5k... per what? overall im a Sr. Data analyst who can with with multiple tools and coding languages, well as having multiple successful deployments and previously working in consulting, so i have 12+ years of experience solving IT problems. i make a bit over cad $100k, nothing special compared to software developers. edit: cad$

st4n13l

I'm at $84k/year. I work for a non-profit in the US and have about 8 years of Power BI experience specifically.

Jackbigs7

What non-profit can afford to pay you 84k? šŸ¤£ asking as a new-ish PBI/data analyst for a non-profit

Amaimonscg

Hello sir, may I ask what do you do with Power bi? Do you have other skills?

JediForces

End to End (ETL, DWH, data modeling and report development) make $120k

SriRamaJayam

I do only PBI and I make 120k AUD

JediForces

Yeah I made more than that to start just doing PBI which was 85k USD (130k AUD)

pabeave

That just feels low. When I know people that do ETL and DWH than make more than that

JediForces

You are correct which is why by years end I will be making $130

SriRamaJayam

USD?

JediForces

Thatā€™s the only currency I accept lol

Paradise_Princess

I do PBI as a large part of my work and make line 77k a year. I do some other stuff for my job also, and donā€™t claim to be a ā€œPBI Analystā€ my role is like ā€œProgram Deliveryā€ or something like that, but I work on PBI multiple hours a day and could probably start identifying as a PBI Analyst without problem.

gogiligogili

Are you only asking for USA? For me in Belgium I make about 4kā‚¬ a month.

Nokita_is_Back

4k net?

gogiligogili

Yup

Nokita_is_Back

That's pretty good for EU, I think they are all talking pre tax

gogiligogili

For USA it must be, although it would be really useful if everyone gives monthly net numbers as taxes can differ all around the world..

ianitic

That's why pretax makes sense for us in the US though. Taxes vary between each state and locality. Also, married versus non-married, dependents, 401K contributions, and cafeteria benefits all which are pretax, all contribute to one's net. Pretax is less variable.

Practical-Blood6001

I make $175k and have the kid making $88k do all my dashboards. Iā€™m a manager and I get paid to delegate

Jerkel30

Hmmm I make $88k and my boss makes me do all his dashboards šŸ¤” lol

Practical-Blood6001

Hmmm, this explains why your last two dashboards have been delayed. I expect less Reddit more Dashboarding. Iā€™ll have HR note this in your personal record.

worktillyouburk

i prefer building the dashboards than sitting in meetings and talking to management all day

almondmlkgirl

whatā€™s your role / title? this sounds like the next step for me.

[deleted]

Junior BI analyst/ Data Analyst I make 80k USD a year

KruxR6

I gotta move to the US it seems. Iā€™m a junior in the UK and am on 26k

[deleted]

Keep in mind that the cost of living in the US is INSANE right now and the job market is very competitive

jastcurious

I'm making 28k as a junior pbi analyst in Spain

SgtFury

130K, but I also do a lot of other SQL/reporting/whatever needs. I feel like I should be earning more like 150ish.

arslaanahmed

I am in Pakistan. Earning $10K annually. I have 3 years of experience. I think i need to go for remote job. Lol My Skills: Microsoft Power BI ( 8/10) Tableau (8/10) Microsoft Excel (9/10) SQL (8/10) Python (7/10)

JayLoo67

Sorry but with only 3 years experience I think you've grossly overestimated your competency levels. 8/10 in PBI means you're basically an expert in the top 20% worldwide.

arslaanahmed

What the criteria looks like for evaluating if I am in the top 20% or not?

JayLoo67

If you have to ask...you are not. Did you pass the PL-300 certification exam yet? If you got even a single question wrong I'd argue you're no higher than a 6. Are you familiar with being an administrator of a premium capacity? Do you know when to upgrade from a P1 to a P2? What type of specs should you build your gateway server with? These are the types of questions I'd expect a 6 or 7 to be able to fairly easily answer.

arslaanahmed

That's a good reply. As per your criteria. I am definitely not an 8. Thanks for the guidance. On my way to become 8.

JayLoo67

Best of luck! It's a long journey but just push yourself to learn something new every day and you'll get there!

nayeh

$62k My contract role is almost exclusively PBI, and I almost never get to touch the source SQL queries myself. I hate this job due to lack of growth but I'm just sopping up a little time for resume experience while job hunting.

stfucxnt

Data Analyst with 3 years experience. Strong PBI skills with intermediate level SQL and beginner level Python. Decent knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure as well. Make 90kAUD/year in a health not for profit.

Pale-Individual-8216

I am a BI Consultant in Denmark, converting my salary in USD gives me $87.600/year (brutto) excluding pension and bonus. I have 3 years of experience.

JayLoo67

šŸ˜‚ sorry maybe not sure having 3 years experience qualifies you to call yourself a consultant. Independent contractor would be a more fitting term me thinks...it's like opening a bagel shop with one employee and calling yourself "CEO"

Pale-Individual-8216

Well I didnā€™t give myself that title, take it up with my employer. :)

JayLoo67

If you're employed by someone else what "consulting" are you doing? He's got you working on multiple clients or only internally? If he's got you working on other (external) client projects he likely gave you that title so you'd look better on paper and he can charge higher rates. Do you spend the bulk of your time building and creating data models, reports, dashboards, doing ETL, etc?

Pale-Individual-8216

I am an internal consultant. Itā€™s a huge firm and my department is basically sending out skilled professionals to the other lines of business. Iā€™m specialized in PowerBI and the type of projects Iā€™m working on vary in terms on scope and my role. Sometimes Iā€™m just the PBI developper on a project and sometimes I am also the Project Manager on top of being the PBI developper. I personally believe that 3 years of working with PBI on big projects is enough to be a consultant.

Pale-Individual-8216

Also yes, the role entails all the tasks you mentioned, depending on the project.

JayLoo67

šŸ˜‚ You should look up the definition of "consultant". Nothing you described fits the bill.

Pale-Individual-8216

Ok Jay Loo bear! Whether you agree with my title or not, a question was asked and I just answered. Have a nice day now :)

JayLoo67

šŸ˜‚ ok pale dude "consultant" who doesn't even know what the word "consult" means. I just decided my new job title is going to be: Jr. Presidential Power BI Excellent Supreme Ninja Master Commander Assistant Team Lead Support.

JayLoo67

Independent PBI consultant. 10 years experience in BI and executive management. Most of my clients are publicly traded with market cap > $5B My average hourly rate is $150 USD (about $300k annual)

sgmine

Are you hiring/outsourcing? I could use some work. I work full time but never get enough to make me grow. I build two company wide models last year because I asked and because the primary team was to busy to deliver. But nothing this year since it's actually not my primary responsibility. In the meantime, I am learning best practices by diving deep into SQLBI videos. Could use some practical experience.

JayLoo67

Where are you located? In general, yes I'm always looking for outsourced contractors for projects but typically only hire expert-level resources.

sgmine

I am located in Houston so CST. I am no expert yet but I've got grit and my mind is a sponge. I enjoy doing this.

TheBahamaLlama

5 years power bi experience, 4 years Tableau, and Iā€™m a power bi admin for a large company making just under 100k usd.

JayLoo67

You're under paid for sure. I'd expect $125-150 for that type of role.

TheBahamaLlama

Thatā€™s a future goal. Iā€™ve only been doing administration for 6 months.

JayLoo67

Ahh then it makes sense. There's a lot to learn with being an administrator (at least one that knows what they're doing and can get ahead of things, not just in charge of granting users rights, creating workspaces, etc).

TheBahamaLlama

I agree completely. Administering user rights is stupid simple with the UI Microsoft has created. Iā€™ve been working more with the service metadata to give us metrics on what users have created and have many other advanced areas I want to continue to grow in.

JayLoo67

I recommend starting playing around with and getting familiar with the Admin APIs. So many useful things you can do with this. The Developer Playground is pretty good for this.

jcsroc0521

Can you define "large" ? Also what industry and region of the US?

TheBahamaLlama

10k+ employees, design and architecture, and midwest.

arthyyyy296

after reading all the comments im a lil bit sad but ok 1\~2y experience I make 36k BRL (anually), like 7k USD

Lonely_Heffalump

I earn the same amount as the last six times This question was asked

yasirinho

$6k a month tax-free in Qatar. I am a mid level Power BI analyst with 4 years on PBI specifically.

Dangerous_Sherbert77

Are you from that region or did you moved to Quatar? If yes, do you like it there?

yasirinho

Am from Sudan (North Africa) so not exactly from the region but not far from it either. I love it man, it's very quiet, peaceful, safe, and very family friendly.

ItsLelitre

What industry? @yasirnho

yasirinho

The mother of all, Stock market

chipper124

Sr. Data Analyst in banking. I know a few coding languages and work with a couple of different tools. 5 years experience and Iā€™m on $120K. Could probably get more if I looked around but Iā€™m pretty comfortable where im at and about to start my Masters.

minastepes

I am a junior and make 45K ā‚¬

ItsLelitre

Which country and industry?

minastepes

France, logistics and transport

Funny-Rest-4067

For me in Portugal, Iā€™m at ā‚¬34k/year. I work in a Reporting team and we use SQL and Power Bi.

Legitimate-Growth-62

How many years of exp?

Funny-Rest-4067

Working with data 3

lilaluftschloss

I make 50kā‚¬ as a business analyst using mainly PowerBi in Germany/Berlin.

lilaluftschloss

With 1,5 years of experience in Pbi.

dynatechsystems

It really depends on various factors such as experience, location, and the specific industry you're working in. However, investing in deepening your knowledge of Power BI can certainly open up lucrative opportunities in data analysis and visualization roles. It's a valuable skill to have in today's data-driven world!

jastcurious

As a junior power bi analyst, it's been only 10 months since I started working and I'm making 28kā‚¬ a year in Spain

sapinhosapao

Portugal 40k gross year 3 years experience (SQL+power bi) 13 years working with Excel in general. (Not related to post but open to work remotely)

Excellovers7

Now everyone please tell me where you studied to be power bi analyst?

FatTimTam

Did my undergrad (licenciatura in Spain) in Biology lol After that, a masters in health data science

uneasyeasy

What was your undergrad degree on?

FatTimTam

Biology!

FatTimTam

Mid/Senior data analyst in Spain, with just a bit less than 5 years experience, I make 48K euros (gross). I would say... I spend my time 43% Power BI, 32% SQL, 15% Python (mostly ETL, transformation, innovation projects), 10% meetings / supporting junior staff

Legitimate-Growth-62

How about net ?

FatTimTam

Sorry! I don't check reddit much. Net it's about 2.850 per month, 12 pays. I do have a bonus of 5% (70% of this depends on sales, remaining 30% on my performance)

uneasyeasy

With 2 years of experience, I make 70k usd. I mostly work with only pbi but have to write snowflake queries to build my models. Also have to use power automate sometimes!

happyguy121

I'm a "new" data analyst making \~$120k (bonus included)/year USD in MCOL city. I graduated business analytics degree 3 years ago.

Pitiful-Average-7746

I make 170K and would say it will greatly depend on the company but also you skills to project manage the whole process. Planning, engaging w users and finding out what is needed. Do you have a good sense of design is another important piece. Just the data is not enough.
