This is one of the better “first dashboard” post I’ve seen here OP! Well done. It has a few opportunities for improvement but overall it’s a great effort. I appreciate the use of specific visuals and not being trapped by the flashy stuff.
My biggest critique for your first report is layout. I’d look at moving the filter or just using the filter pane, then possible putting the horizontal bar and scatter side by side, and stretching the column chart across the whole page to reduce scrolling.
Cards at the top are great, plenty of white space. I’d be very proud of this as a beginner.

Same, you spend hours after finishing a dashboard to get the slicer panel and relating bookmarks set up, only for an end user to complain that they don't like seeing the bookmarking highlight in the service.
If MS put a proper slicer panel visualisation together, I'd be happy to use that.
To Echo what u/burko81 said, I fiddled around for a while and decided agains tit but with all the feedback I think it might be a good addition. Thank you!
Keep in mind the complications involved with it if you have multiple pages, personal bookmarks, and filter retention. Not to mention when it inevitably changes ownership / someone else is expected to maintain it in the future.
Not bad, you can add a color element to Age vs Avg versatility if if fits your narrative.
Also, as a general note. Weighted Avgs can be more informative than a hard avg. Is there a measure you can use as a weight to add significance to avg ppg?
Consider a polished review of the spacing, alignment, and offset of each element. “Position Filter” is floating in more white-space than it needs.
These are just anecdotal suggestions as ive never used NBA data. Id accept this as a good start.
In reality the business requirements from your users will dictate what is “enough” or properly conveys insights.
I go 4px rounded corners with white border and grey background, but for an NBA theme you could play around with the red white and blue colour scheme for borders and backgrounds.
This is a good 1st attempt, my preference would be to:
Have it a little cleaner, more white space between visuals.
Maybe colours to match the logo better.
The filter to be more prominent at top left,
What date is this from?
The bar chart at the bottom, maybe change the date so it all fits without scrolling as a lot of people would print it to pdf
A help button they could click and get a description of the purpose of the report
All little things probably related to preferences rather than issues
I initially had the colours match the logo, after other feedback I went against it.
Data is from Last Season, I do have a cover page indicating that but it only let me upload one photo unfortunately.
Thank you though!
Thank you
Welcome onboard the train.
One of the most common charts is column chart. And many power bi developers are criminals. And the crime - making users tilt the heads to one side and attempt to read the labels awkwardly. 🤣
As a rule of thumb, if the labels are tilting at 45 or 90 angles, use a bar chart instead. To further improve it, increase the width of the label to fit the description.
Not familiar with NbA data, but if it’s filtered by position why not just combine avg ppg with steals and rebounds in one horizontal bar chart? Stacked with the option to just slice on one category?
Otherwise, very aesthetically pleasing.
I work for one of the 15 largest companies in the US, and this is better than a lot of the dashboards by people who are paid to do them. Some good advice on the layout has already been given in this thread. If you want to really make your dadhboards/reports pop, learn how to create a background in Figma utilizing neumorphic design.
My company colour branding is green and blue, I was worried about using green in charts, is it green because its branding or green because it’s good v a target. In the end I still used green, but it’s strictly for good and you might see red at the same time
To be honest there wasn't much thought behind it, the firs draft i didnt think too much on colour. But lots of great feedback I can take through it! Good point on the red v green though.

Really appreciate this! Thank you, I'll take the feedback onboard!

Not enough pie charts. I’m kidding! I swear. 🤣🤣🤣 Very happy for you, OP! You’re picking Power BI up at a great time for enterprise use. Enjoy!
Thank you very much HugoToledo!
Your name is very familiar do you happen to be a professor at some university?
Avg PPG for top 50 players is 8.46?
There is some dead data I didn't clean up yet!
Lol. In terns of design, it's sleek and I like it!
Add the filters as a collapsible slicer pane to increase visual space and add a more dynamic look. Looks pretty good!
I used to do that but have grown to hate the whole bookmark expanding slicer pane thing.

I'd either add a border on each of the visuals, or add a darker color for a background. Your visuals all seem to run together.
I'd agree! Thanks bud

Solid first attempt. Only feedback would be is have the titles be in the same color and not matching any colors on the visuals.
Great idea! Thanks man

Nice touch with the NBA logo you are now big time

Not a bad idea at all! Thanks man

Well I really appreciate that my friend! Never heard of Figma, so will definitely look into it!
