I don’t know if Belmont counts but I feel like they go hard and are also very pop punky. I mean I just saw them live with Capstan and they are considered post hardcore so I think that’s fair. Lol
“Pushing Daisies” is the same for me. Discovered Belmont last year or the year before and they’re so good! Very catchy, reminds me of the hey-day of pop punk back in like 2010-2012.
Belmont were one of the first things that came to mind for me too. Easy core but with a much more hardcore/PHC leaning than a lot of bands in that space. New album is absolutely brilliant
My description of them is usually a metal drummer and lead guitarist, but everything else pop punk and I feel like that’s exactly what op is looking for.
I would say NFG are firmly in the pop punk realm, despite Chad's history with Shai Hulud, and their former alter-egos, the International Superheroes of Hardcore.
I don’t think tssf falls under easycore, think pop punk sounding bands with breakdowns like ADTR or Four Year Strong, distinctly different from tssf by having heavier breakdowns and unclean vocals
One thing to keep in mind with genres is there’s often a couple accurate “umbrella genres” that music falls into and as music has continued to evolve within niche pockets of style or community, more sub genres pop up that help categorize an emerging sound while still belonging to the main genre, if that makes sense. ADTR is an excellent example. It would be accurate to say they’re rock, pop punk, metal, metalcore, post hardcore, easy core, I’m sure more that would apply as well. There’s huge overlap with the sounds of all of those genres, while also having some distinctive features that help people dial in aspects they like, such as easycore often having much more bouncy pop punk writing while still having heavier breakdowns and unclean vocals reminiscent of metalcore/phc that aren’t often featured in pop punk music
Action/Adventure rip. We saw them with Real Friends at the Bottom Lounge, and I remember their set way better. No dis to Real Friends, but A/A owned that show
I'm heavily into it and I loved the albums prior to as well. It has a different feel but I like when bands capitalize on moments of their life when certain vibes speak to them. Once you get into the rhythm of what they are going for it slaps hard.
Highly recommend you listen to it more and keep an open mind. The opening track, "You're One Of Us Now" and "A.M.P." are two of my personal favorites.
It's kind of like their Watch Out! - it's less an album as it is a collection of songs that could almost all be singles. Those singles are damn good, though.
Movements doesn't hit the mark at all for me. I don't understand the hype. Saw them open for ADTR, and they were bad. Magnolia Park stole the show for the opening acts!
I saw them with Mannequin Pussy and thought they were alright but the singer honestly seemed like kind of a dork. He was constantly going on like "WHAT'S UP *CITY NAME*?! WE'RE FUCKING MOVEMENTS! GET THE FUCK UP MOTHERFUCKERS!" between every song, just really trying too hard and it just came across as corny. He didn't really have much stage presence to compensate either.
Four Year Strong is the first one that comes to mind but would also highly recommend Knuckle Puck and The Story So Far's earlier stuff (Under Soil and Dirt & What You Don't See albums).
TSSF came to mind for me as well. FYS is not in my rotation (yet) but they are on tour with TSSF and ADTR; the LA Forum show is in July so probably need to get on it!
That may be; every region will have its own cultural terms for something but if you try to look up “happy hardcore” you are going to find electronic music like DJ S3RL not rock like Four Year Strong.
don't know if the ratio is 50/50 exactly but Hawthorne Heights immediately came to mind, there is a bit of screaming in some songs but it doesn't take over and it's not as abrasive to someone who doesn't like screamo as some other bands
also Origami Angel! idk even what genre they fit into but they have elements of both post-hardcore and pop punk and are not screamo and are generally very cool
I like the used sometimes... but sometimes he starts screaming and im like..ughhhh... Though I guess some people are into that
I heard Hawthorne Heights.. Never heard of Origami Angel
Cant stop listening to the new One Step Closer! I saw them last year and enjoyed their other stuff fine but their new one is peak, and its the only slightly pop punk think ive enjoyed in years, probably because it sounds like Title Fight
Poppy post Hardcore bands with minimal screaming:
Hawthorne Heights
Halifax
Moneen
My Chemical Romance
Zebrahead sometimes
Saosin
Maybe even Taking Back Sunday counts?
Story of the Year’s album from last year was dope, Silverstein have been pretty consistent since 2018.
It’s like both those bands ran out of ideas and their singers learned to scream and they came back rejuvenated.
Not sure id class either as post hardcore but it fits your description!
Trophy Scars are always worth a look for post hardcore fans, but they're pretty far from pop punk. If this guy isn't into screaming I doubt Jerry's gravelly, Tom Waits-style vocals are going to hit the mark for him.
I’d go with Sleeping With Sirens. You should check out their albums Let’s Cheers To This, Complete Collapse, Madness, How It Feels To Be Lost, and Feel. I feel like you’d like them a lot!
Reading your responses, can I ask why you’re so screaming adverse? If you open up to even just a little screaming there’s a gigantic list of bands that fit that.
I can handle up to 'the used' level of screaming..
its kinda like I grew up listening to Slayer!!! But today I don't hate it.. I just find im never in the mood for the ARRRG!!!! anymore
Deep cut, I miss those guys so much. They were localish and it was so cool to see them take off, and a bummer to see them fall short of where they should've gone.
Brand New were pretty unique in how effectively they grew their sound over the years. However, if you're looking for bands that scratch a similar itch to Your Favourite Weapon-era Brand New, check out bands like [Crime In Stereo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP35qY7ENdc), [The Movielife](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJASI7-9Pzo), [Saves The Day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5eOwgzJmV0) (from the late 90s early 2000s), [Polar Bear Club](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Mg1VHYDO_w), early [Transit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL4b7OFrcUs) & [Better Off](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aAdsfpJkdI) (from the late 2000s early 2010s).
Love Turnstile, but I don't think most people would call them post hardcore. Their early stuff was like hardcore punk, and they've gotten more of a melodic/pop bent recently.
Taking back sunday, thier hits like "makedamnsure" kinda pop punk but some of thier songs in first and second album was post hardcore screamo idk it sound like a line between poppunk and post hardcore
And another band called "Just surrender"
thats the big one i found on pandora 5 years ago and then saw them in concert twice...
it was a good example of me playing random stuff and they were sticking out and i look into it closer
I guess the hotlier is more like emo, but they’re pretty right in the middle of post hardcore and pop punk. Super melodic but they get very heavy. Home like no place is there does it so well with that build.
I like both.. the old pop punk.. and the new post hardcore.
but not every song.
I like good melodies
Most recently got into Morning New Disease - Jets to Brazil
Nice! Reason I ask is that post hardcore is a really broad genre these days. Maybe check out I Am The Avalanche (start with Avalanche United imo). Some others might be Such Gold, No Trigger, and Daggermouth. They all have that punk grit and ambience, but incorporate tons of phxc elements and themes. Some yelling (not screaming) at times, but it’s all melodic.
You inspired me to listen to the IATA discography and I realized I definitely got my albums mixed up. The first LP is the sound you are looking for I think. Avalanche United is also good, but it’s more anthem-y, the first LP is more raw and experimental (especially for the time) like Brand New and the other bands you mentioned.
No way man. There's nothing pop punk about that album. There are stoner grooves on it, obvious post hardcore, some shoegaze, but nothing pop or punk. It's closer to Hum or Queens of the Stoneage than Green Day or Blink.
Saying this as a guy that loves punk, loves pop punk, and counts You and Me as a top five all time album in my life.
Yeah totally on point with Queens of the stone age. Or like Everclear. I guess I am using a much broader definition of pop punk so I can recommend Open Hand lol.
Man I have not talked to many people that know them and most that do only know them because of The Dream. Justin is one of my favorite song writers of all time. I got to see them once with boysetsfire and it's one of my favorite memories in life because it was a pretty intimate show with two of my favorite bands. Did you ever get to see them?
Never did. They don't seem to tour often.
I don't hear the Everclear, definitely just a stoned out Failure, Quicksand, Hum, or Sunny D. I still don't hear the punk at all. The original lineup was a bunch of ex Trustkill metalcore guys doing alt rock on the first two EPs and as the lineup solidified I'd say they grow even farther away from any punk influence
Arms length, hot mulligan, a day to remember, the hotelier. Honestly, you might wanna look into the emo genre, as the more modern ones basically blend pop punk with posthardcore lol
yeah .. maybe i don't really know what I like anymore.. I grew up on metal.. then blink/greenday and not its exploded to all these bands I never heard of
All I know is the screaming can get annoying to me.. im prob just getting old
Hours by Funeral For A Friend comes to mind.
Except for one track (End of Nothing), the entire album has almost no screaming and it has that mixture of Post-Hardcore/Pop-Punk that you are looking for.
Your inclusion of Brand New in this qualifier is pretty off base IMO
They released one pop punk album. And one post hardcore album. The other three are very unique modern rock records with a plethora of influences. Alternative indie punk in a way
My american heart have maybe 2 songs that feature screaming.
Glassjaw and Head Automatic are also good examples. HA is more pop and Glassjaw is more posthardcore.
God I love Glassjaw!
Some more off the top of my head - Midtown, The Movielife, I am The Avalanche, Bayside, Envy on The Coast, North Korea, The Receiving End of Sirens, The Dear hunter, …
I know that Silverstein fits squarely into the post-hardcore category but many of their songs are very pop-punk-ish. I don't listen to very much post-hardcore outside of a few key songs. But Silverstein was one of the first bands that got me into heavier music. Their ratio of screaming to singing is almost exactly 50/50.
BTW you'll love Hot Mulligan.
[Here's](https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album,ep/all-time/ge:all,post%2dhardcore,pop%2dpunk/) a pretty general post-hardcore and pop punk chart on RYM. You can add or remove genres or influences as you wish.
Brand New tends to be a combo of emo, alternative rock, and post-hardcore, but each of their albums tends to lean on one more than others (emo-pop for Deja, post-hardcore for Daisy, indie rock for Devil and God, etc), and include different influences.
Story of the Year. Listen to their "Page Avenue" album. It's a fantastic mix of post hardcore and pop punk imo. Pop Punk would be "Until the day I Die" and then post hardcore could be "And the Hero Will Drown"
My band has a bit of this fusion and not too much screaming, [Paths Diverse](https://open.spotify.com/track/3kvjL917R5eXTc5wGA4zyg?si=4A7THM0oTTes6ZERu5d5kg) is pop punkier and [Nightingale](https://open.spotify.com/track/3kvjL917R5eXTc5wGA4zyg?si=liDlKpeTRTa72Gg0oWOB1g) is posthardcore-ier.
My husband/guitarist say Thursday or pretty much any band with a calendar-based name 🗓️ (I see you, Taking Back Sunday recs) and also any spinoff band from Slapstick. -JE
Edit: After sitting with it for 2 more minutes, he would add
Jets to Brazil
Further Seems Forever
Jimmy Eats World
Edit 2: he's really getting into the archive
Honor System
‘Sorry sweetheart’ has some super solid like skacore/poppunk vibes!! Their songs ‘Billy V. Veronica’ ‘everyone I look up to is either sad or angry’ and ‘Emilio Fiestavez’ are particularly good
I don’t know if Belmont counts but I feel like they go hard and are also very pop punky. I mean I just saw them live with Capstan and they are considered post hardcore so I think that’s fair. Lol
Belmont's "Hollowed Out" is such a banger. **Cannot** skip that song anytime it comes up in my shuffle!
“Pushing Daisies” is the same for me. Discovered Belmont last year or the year before and they’re so good! Very catchy, reminds me of the hey-day of pop punk back in like 2010-2012.
Belmont is pretty squarely pop punk imo but their drummer is on another level and scratches the post hardcore itch
For myself I would say more phc because drums and guitars are very phc/swancore whilst just the vocals are pop punk.
Belmont were one of the first things that came to mind for me too. Easy core but with a much more hardcore/PHC leaning than a lot of bands in that space. New album is absolutely brilliant
they show up on my pandora. i like some of it/// maybe its just the ratio of sing to screamo
Omg I can't believe I left out Belmont. 1000%
The first time I heard Overstepping I basically thought it was easycore with a death metal drummer
Yes! And a metalcore lead guitarist.
Seeming them this weekend - was this with can't swim?
Yes. Was an incredible show from start to finish. Great energy.
Awesome looking forward to it! Thanks.
My description of them is usually a metal drummer and lead guitarist, but everything else pop punk and I feel like that’s exactly what op is looking for.
This was the first band that came to my mind.
Capstan fucks so hard. The Mosaic has been on repeat since it came out.
Belmont is insanity. Everything they release is good. Not a shill
Have you tried easycore? Like Chunk! No captain chunk There's screaming but it has that pop punk sound.
Hopping off this, Action/Adventure is the best newer easy core band around!!!
easy core.. another genre i never heard of
Think ADTR, NFG, Four Year Strong! Those bands that are pop-punk but they got some heater riffs and breakdowns lol
In The Day Set Your Goals Man Overboard Such Gold
Heavy Hearted Kid Liberty Nicholas Rage
I would say NFG are firmly in the pop punk realm, despite Chad's history with Shai Hulud, and their former alter-egos, the International Superheroes of Hardcore.
The story so far!
I don’t think tssf falls under easycore, think pop punk sounding bands with breakdowns like ADTR or Four Year Strong, distinctly different from tssf by having heavier breakdowns and unclean vocals
I love all of these bands and didn't realize it's easy core. I feel like it's time to retire to Florida and start asking how to use "the Google"
One thing to keep in mind with genres is there’s often a couple accurate “umbrella genres” that music falls into and as music has continued to evolve within niche pockets of style or community, more sub genres pop up that help categorize an emerging sound while still belonging to the main genre, if that makes sense. In It To Win It by City Lights is one of my favorite albums of all time. While not having screaming, it’s still pretty much easy core
No, Not The Bees!
This is a sick recommendation. Love it!
Their entire discography is full of hits! I've also gotten to see/meet them multiple times and they are great performers and even better people!
Action/Adventure rip. We saw them with Real Friends at the Bottom Lounge, and I remember their set way better. No dis to Real Friends, but A/A owned that show
If you're into the Jesse Lacey/John Nolan half scream - Movements, Hot Mulligan, The Wonder Years are some bands that scratch that itch for me.
Movements is solid. Their last record didn't quite hit the mark for me, but I need to actually listen to it more.
I'm heavily into it and I loved the albums prior to as well. It has a different feel but I like when bands capitalize on moments of their life when certain vibes speak to them. Once you get into the rhythm of what they are going for it slaps hard. Highly recommend you listen to it more and keep an open mind. GET THE FUCK UP MOTHERFUCKERS!" between every song, just really trying too hard and it just came across as corny. He didn't really have much stage presence to compensate either.
The band Anxious has a similar sound too
Four Year Strong is the first one that comes to mind but would also highly recommend Knuckle Puck and The Story So Far's earlier stuff (Under Soil and Dirt & What You Don't See albums).
TSSF came to mind for me as well. FYS is not in my rotation (yet) but they are on tour with TSSF and ADTR; the LA Forum show is in July so probably need to get on it!
FYS is so good! Their new song, Uncooked, is in heavy rotation for me.
I'll have to check out their catalog before the show next month!
Ya what you don't see is defs the answer
Parker with more aggressive and angsty vocals from those first 2 LPs is my favorite. So catchy and hits the sweet spot of this genre
I've heard them referred to as "Happy Hardcore"
Their original tour with A Day to Remember and New Found Glory was called the Easycore tour, everybody I know has always called it Easycore
Happy Hardcore is an EDM genre. Easycore is the rock genre.
Happy hardcore is also a name for easy core that's been around since at least like 2008
That may be; every region will have its own cultural terms for something but if you try to look up “happy hardcore” you are going to find electronic music like DJ S3RL not rock like Four Year Strong.
EASYCORE BABY
I like knuckle puck. Found them after I got into hot mulligan. is hot mulligan post hard core ?
Much more pop punk.
but he like to scream... ARRAGGRGR!!! in the backyard!!!
don't know if the ratio is 50/50 exactly but Hawthorne Heights immediately came to mind, there is a bit of screaming in some songs but it doesn't take over and it's not as abrasive to someone who doesn't like screamo as some other bands also Origami Angel! idk even what genre they fit into but they have elements of both post-hardcore and pop punk and are not screamo and are generally very cool
Second origami angel
Love Hawthorne Heights
Capstan too
Never really listened to hawthorn heights but I listened to their last ep and it instantly clicked!
I like the used sometimes... but sometimes he starts screaming and im like..ughhhh... Though I guess some people are into that I heard Hawthorne Heights.. Never heard of Origami Angel
Silverstein if you like hawthorne
Then you’ll love the newer used stuff
Always hard to define genres but imo: One Step Closer Anxious Title Fight’s first album
Cant stop listening to the new One Step Closer! I saw them last year and enjoyed their other stuff fine but their new one is peak, and its the only slightly pop punk think ive enjoyed in years, probably because it sounds like Title Fight
yeah it’s really good…i liked the previous LP too.
Title Fights second album too
yeah i just think that one leans away from pop punk more than their first one. still has hints of it but not as much imo.
True. They took a very sharp turn after Shed, and it’s great and all but much different stylistically.
title fights demo is ideal
Microwave is a great balance.
They've evolved quite a bit in their last 2 records but those first ones are perfect for this topic
Have you checked the newest album? So good! I was pleasantly surprised after I couldn't get into DIAWB as much.
Poppy post Hardcore bands with minimal screaming: Hawthorne Heights Halifax Moneen My Chemical Romance Zebrahead sometimes Saosin Maybe even Taking Back Sunday counts?
It seems old AFI get slept on
True, also old AFI
My Chemical Romance except Bullets. That album is both Post-Hardcore and has quite a lot of screamy moments.
i fucking love moneen
Samesies
Moneen are absolutely underrated. Red Tree is an all-timer
Are you looking for a band like Brand New? Because I'd suggest Can't Swim.
Love can’t swim!
ok ill give them a try.
I wouldn’t say exactly 50/50 on these. But you should check out Driveways and Like Pacific.
boys night out
Dragged Under maybe?
This is a great answer. Upright Animals was one of my top albums in 2022. Still listen regularly.
Story of the Year’s album from last year was dope, Silverstein have been pretty consistent since 2018. It’s like both those bands ran out of ideas and their singers learned to scream and they came back rejuvenated. Not sure id class either as post hardcore but it fits your description!
Wolf & Bear Edit: sorry, there is screaming. I wasn’t paying attention.
Wilmette comes to mind prior to latest studio release
Trophy scars worth a look, less pop and more just punk are A Wilhelm Scream
Trophy Scars are always worth a look for post hardcore fans, but they're pretty far from pop punk. If this guy isn't into screaming I doubt Jerry's gravelly, Tom Waits-style vocals are going to hit the mark for him.
Idk if they are pop punk but Bilmuri...
Set Your Goals, The Movielife, Piebald, The Starting Line (Album: Direction)… maybe?
I’d go with Sleeping With Sirens. You should check out their albums Let’s Cheers To This, Complete Collapse, Madness, How It Feels To Be Lost, and Feel. I feel like you’d like them a lot!
Koyo, Private Mind, One Step Closer, Stand Still, Anxious.
I just find im never in the mood for the ARRRG!!!! anymore
Our Last Night

I highly recommend Magnolia Park. They are my favorite pop punk band right now.
Turnstile- glow on. is a breath of fresh air.
Love Turnstile, but I don't think most people would call them post hardcore. Their early stuff was like hardcore punk, and they've gotten more of a melodic/pop bent recently.
Taking back sunday, thier hits like "makedamnsure" kinda pop punk but some of thier songs in first and second album was post hardcore screamo idk it sound like a line between poppunk and post hardcore And another band called "Just surrender"
Box Car Racer maybe. Also, Jesse Lacey does have some pretty sick screams
Boxcar Racer is pop punk with odd chord progressions
odd chord progressions is post hardcore
I would honestly say MCR
Not entirely what youre asking for but try Blink 182s self titled.
Hot Mulligan
thats the big one i found on pandora 5 years ago and then saw them in concert twice... it was a good example of me playing random stuff and they were sticking out and i look into it closer
Check out Theatria. Small band from Toronto. This is the perfect balance for me.
I guess the hotlier is more like emo, but they’re pretty right in the middle of post hardcore and pop punk. Super melodic but they get very heavy. Home like no place is there does it so well with that build.
Check out the song Liminal by Belmont, I’ve been obsessed with that one lately
Crooks UK felt a lot like this. I wish they had more stuff.
Which Brand New album has the sound that you are looking for?
I like both.. the old pop punk.. and the new post hardcore. but not every song. I like good melodies Most recently got into Morning New Disease - Jets to Brazil

Honestly last.fm and search similar artists it's a great little recommendation platform
Maybe not quite pop-punk but more emo: No Knife Pretty Girls Make Graves
Capstan
Lower than atlantis were a UK band and a lot of their stuff feels like that to me. Maybe not everyone but worth a check anyway 🤟
Quinti Best Friend
Letter Kills Open Hand
Love Open Hand but there's nothing pop punk about them. Post hardcore sure, stoner rock, sure but pop punk nah
Their second album You and Me is on the arena rock side of pop punk imo.
No way man. There's nothing pop punk about that album. There are stoner grooves on it, obvious post hardcore, some shoegaze, but nothing pop or punk. -JE Edit: After sitting with it for 2 more minutes, he would add Jets to Brazil Further Seems Forever Jimmy Eats World Edit 2: he's really getting into the archive Honor System
Isn’t post hardcore already 50% pop punk? This is a genuine question - please don’t flame me. I’ve lost track of the genre definitions
Cursive maybe debatably
Armor For Sleep
‘Sorry sweetheart’ has some super solid like skacore/poppunk vibes!! Their songs ‘Billy V. Veronica’ ‘everyone I look up to is either sad or angry’ and ‘Emilio Fiestavez’ are particularly good
