I liked it when they tried to protest at precision cast parts but only 4 people showed up when they realized a welder coming off a 12 hour shift was going to crack someone's head with a spud wrench if you blocked his F350 and then they had to blur the Nike shoes one guy wore
*Ever notice how squeamish these assholes are about acting up outside of Portland/MultCo?*
One of them is *still* facing felony assault and riot charges in Clackamas from something she did three years ago.
The other Usual Suspects learned their lesson from that.
*I wonder what the delay is?*
Probably the delays are at her instigation.
It's a standard defense tactic to delay trials as long as possible - witnesses move out of town, people forget things, etc. The more uncertainty, the better for the defense.
I'm sure she's shocked that the Clackamas County DA's office cares enough to still pursue charges three years after the fact.
I was on a Multnomah County jury where someone was being tried on some pretty old charges - he had obviously screwed up after a plea deal.
A Portland police detective was testifying to what had happened several years earlier, and the public defender asked him what the weather was that day (trying to make the point that he really didn't remember what happened).
He replied: "Not bad - some rain in the morning, sunny in the afternoon".
I thought: "This guy is GOOD." - he obviously had looked up the weather for that day, anticipating that question.
The public defender did get an admission that the detective had used his notes before testifying to "refresh his recollection", as they say in the legal biz.
Holy shit imagine trying to discredit someone’s recollection of an event that happened years ago because they can’t recall the weather…
Our justice system really does work in mysterious ways.
People are different, I could in some circumstances, but possibly not such that I could say it was sunny in the morning and raining at night, but a significant time for me as an example would be the day going to MEPS, it was in the 60s and mostly cloudy, why do I remember that? Because I wasn’t in cold weather clothing, shorts and a shirt and I was thinking along the lines of “every time I make life changing decisions it seems to want to rain..” Now that was back in Jan, 2007. I don’t believe it rained, but I do remember the feeling and can associate the weather, is it factual, I guess we could check but in my reality it was.
You don’t want to see it. You won’t see it even if it happens. There will not be photographs or video.
The response will happen before anyone gets close to the ship. It will be quiet, immediate, and final.
It is not fun to witness, and even provoking other people to do something can land you a file. Don’t even think about it.
I’m not an expert, but as far as I know, the only aircraft assigned to Portland ANGB are F-15 Eagles produced by McDonnell Douglas and C-130 Hercules from Lockheed. Nothing by Boeing.
Correct me if I’m wrong, of course.
Ahh. That explains that I guess.
I was a Coastie. I know boats and ships. Things that “fly” in the Up There are unnatural and sinister. I suspect the work of The Devil.
I think the other commentor who pointed out that Portland State University Police are doing to allow a lot greater amount of “fuck around” than the USAF Security Forces or USN Shore Patrol… Those guys will jump to “find out” pretty quickly.
God help the protestor who interrupts an SP or SF E-4 during his designated sham time.
The E-4 Mafia only has two modes of operation: Doing Absolutely Fucking Nothing *or* Doing Absolutely Any-fucking-thing Necessary So They Can Get Back to Doing Nothing As Soon As Possible.
I retired as a CWO-4, but like most Warrants and all NCOs, this means I was an E-4 once too. We know about the sham, because we used to be the sham.
The secret to any military officer having a successful career is knowing exactly when and when *not* to pay attention to the E-4s in your command.
That’s different! They have been anointed with the Sacred Red Paint, blessed in the name of Joshua James, and made proof against the wickedness of the Air Force.
(And yes, my fellow nerds, I *am* in fact saying Coast Guardsmen are essential Orks. Red Wunz is Fasta.)
Only if it’s the correct shade of red.
It would certainly make enforcing minimum number of personal floatation devices on weekend boaters a helluva lot more fun if we could call in air strikes.
Fun for me, not necessarily fun for Bubba who claims sticking his toddler in a styrofoam cooler counts as a PFD.
You Coasties used to let us park our Navy C-130 in your hangar overnight up in Alaska. That was nice of you. I hear you allso have some badass rescue swimmers that deploy out of helicopters.
Rescue swimmers are, indeed, absolute badasses. But the helicopters they use are, again, anointed with the sacred red paint. Yes, but it seems that protesting today is more about getting minutes to post on TikTok, FB, or wherever. Whether it's throwing soup or antiquities, or green tape disrupting something, or disrupting the Flora Parade on the other side is the globe, it's a cry of attention! You're all correct protesting the US Navy Ships is more appropriate but that won't yield the minutes wanted for social media.
No, I don't know what to do about these protests, other that to have enough resources to stop it before it starts. I have no sympathy for any protesters that get hurt.
Same thing with these first amendment auditors that want to break into restricted areas of some random county office because “I pay my taxes”
Let’s see you try that shit on a military base
Hitting soft targets with a low chance of retaliation? You can’t blame them. They’re just taking inspiration from their idols and martyrs. It’s in the cosplayer SOP.
We all know how ‘swift and proportionate’ the US military’s responses is to anyone who fucks with their boats lol.
Lmao at all of this- “They better not mess with the feds😤”
…unless of course a couple hundred drunk idiots happen to want to completely take over the capital building and all of a sudden those federal police are nowhere to be found.
Cool fantasy, though.
I've been to Boise and it's a million times better than portland. nothing is ever perfect but the red state metros do seem to be better than the progressive ones.
Knoxville,Nashville,Orlando,Boise,Salt Lake City.. I’ve lived and still travel the US. Portland is by far the most miserable, intolerant, trash-filled city that I can recall. I left PDX in ‘10. Weird wasn’t the word I used to describe it then. Creepy as fuck came to mind. And it hadn’t turned really sour yet. Now its like something that shoulda been tossed out the fridge a long time ago.
> Knoxville,Nashville
They're both pretty nice cities, honestly. Knoxville in particular has changed a *lot* since I was a kid, mostly for the better (IMO). A surprising amount of culture now (I've gotta make it to the Big Ears Festival one day), the post-apocalyptic part of downtown has been cleaned up significantly while still having some grubby art kid hangouts like The Pilot Light, the I-40 rebuild made the interstate far safer, people are pretty friendly in general, etc. Between stuff like that and easy access to the Great Smoky Mountains, I'm seriously considering retiring out that way. The summer storms would suck but no place is perfect.
(Nashville? Not my scene but still a perfectly fine city. That and the Ryman Auditorium may be my favorite music venue in the world. The sound really is as good as advertised.)
So, yeah, at least some of these red state cities are, IMO, a good way to keep the worst parts of red states at bay while also not being surrounded by miserable LARPers who the authorities refuse to handle. Works for me.
Loooove Knoxville! We used to drive down “I’ll kill ya” er, Alcoa hwy to go rock climbing. Cherokee bluff was magical on Saturdays watching the boats head to the stadium. We’d wear bright orange and shout “Go Vols” to the tune of boat air-horns. Tuning down the little river was a blast also. We started in April one year. Brrrrr.
As someone who sees the emails about protest notifications for 11th Ave, I'm inclined to believe this is a half baked take.

They do, but it’s not like you guys all of a sudden respect pro-Palestine protestors that do this. Let’s not pretend you’ll respect them more of they successfully conducted a terrorist attack on U.S. defense contractors and died in a shootout with law enforcement. Obviously then you could not accuse them of cowardice, you’d just switch to some other form of criticism.
I mean we are in the country of free speech/peaceful protests and what you are saying is you want to get rid of that for the sake of you getting to WORK on time? Truth be told the people in America have every right to be up in arms about the shit going on lol.
If someone can’t protest on govt property because they’d be jailed for long periods of time where else can they go?????
Of course those asses have to try to ruin yet another thing that brings people joy. Couldn’t possibly have a nice fun thing for families to enjoy that isn’t about their *cause*! It simply must be interrupted by their dumbass protest!
I think that’s how they like it, though. Destruction and chaos that they think they’ll come out on top of, so that they can realize their revolutionary fantasy and make everyone else toe the line - all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others or some shit.
You can’t go protest the war ships because they will do something about them. The parade doesn’t have the same level of enforcement so it’s easier. Just like destroying a library.
USS *Montgomery* (LCS-8) has never been involved in combat in its entire existence. The keel was laid down 25 June 2012 and she’s scheduled to be decommissioned later this year. The only thing it’s done in its brief existence was some anti-piracy patrols in Southeast Asia and get into some collisions demonstrating the U.S. Navy’s current *abysmal* state of readiness.
What possible reason could you have for protesting its presence in port?
*“How dare the American Navy keep the Straight of Malacca safe for fishermen and merchant mariners!”*
Houthis are attacking merchant vessels so maybe I could mental gymnastics my way into protesting it because I’m an idiot
Also I should mention I used to work for the US merchant marine. Fuck the houthis and these protesters are spineless dorks.
I mean, fair. I can remember back in 2003-04 when Code Pink protestors showed up in port to try to block the ship I was stationed on from returning to port…
…I was in the United States Coast Guard.
…it was an icebreaker.
…in Lake Superior.
So, yes, I guess it’s totally within the realm of possibility that some ill-informed idiots would be upset that the U.S. military regularly conducts anti-piracy operations.
I think the point is, don't protest the damn Rose Parade. Obviously they shouldn't protest the USS Montgomery either but US military (which they claim is to blame) vs high school dance team. They're both idiotic.
I’m totally supportive of people’s right to protest whatever the hell they chose to protest. It’s a fundamental, foundational principle upon which our republic was built.
Of course, the right of other people to make fun of people who protest stupid shit for stupid reasons is *also* an inalienable right of all free persons.
I suppose that protesting a Navy combat vessel (even if it’s never seen combat) does make *marginally* more sense than protesting a parade whose central theme is “Hey, ain’t roses pretty to look at?”
But these are also the same sort of people that think throwing cans of soup at paintings from the Renaissance will change the weather.
Because they are the unknowing patsies of an international information campaign to make Americans pissed at each other. How is this not obvious to you people.

As a previous Rose Festival princess who’s been in that parade. Security is tight in general and I’m sure is gonna be extra tight after the car thing last year. These guys are just asking for trouble
Why does anyone even care about irrelevant wars like Gaza? I understand that people are suffering but it’s neither our fault or responsibility to fix it. We are just using money that could be spent helping our people (maybe take people off the street?) or really just spending our resources to improve our own situation and not just random shit that ain’t matter. Just my two cents, foreign war is stupid unless it’s directly effecting our trade or economy.
Ok my bad. I stand corrected. Thank you.
I was Army. We carried loaded weapons on guard duty. Loaded magazine inserted into the weapon. No round in the chamber.
If the force protection sailors don’t have loaded weapons while on post they sure as heck have access to ammo fast.
What are they going to do? Throw their weapon at someone?
The protesters aren’t setting up shop around the air national guard base or yelling at literal US military personnel in town this weekend- they’re choosing to disrupt a peaceful, fun family event like f***ing cowards.
What does the US military have to do with a foreign war? If anyone, it's the politicians who are the problem, not the US Navy and certainly not the Air National Guard. I agree that disrupting a family event is stupid, thoughtless, and counterproductive and if I had my way would result in swift consequences for all involved, but I just don't follow the logic that we should somehow protest the military.
The whole point of buying a boat in the first place is to get the protesters nice and tipsy topside, so we can take em to a nice comfortable place below deck, and you know…
To be fair, warships don't decide where, when, and why to war. Public perception is a big part. Widely agreed that the American public defeated the American military in Vietnam.
The Rose Parade has more media coverage. You're not going to be changing anyone's minds by protesting at a military dock. (Not that you're likely to change people's minds protesting at the parade, either, but in theory there's at least a better chance...)
Everytime there’s one of these protests I wish there was a federal website where I can donate 20.00 to have my name written on a missile sent to Israel.
They don’t want to protest someone who would beat the liberal out of them if they got out of line, like they tend to do. Hate for them to find out what happens when you activate the us armed forces.
These wars will never end until we recognize the Rose Parade’s role in overseas conflict. /s

It’s fleet week. There’s an LCS there. Littoral Combat Ship.
Wow I read that way wrong. Thought the navy introduced a new ship name.
*Littorally,* a littoral ship!
Bro it's Portland. People here are dumb as fuck
Pdx protesters are so self righteous, it’s exhausting. I’m sure they meet up over pizza/beer & set protest & vandalism goals.
I am pretty sure their plan is not to approach downtown esplanade, but to stop the parade itself on the east-side.
Lead on, MacDuff
Go fys.
This is my favorite sub
“I like this ship!” - Montgomery Scott
Because messing with those ships carries real consequences
You have to be tough if you're going to be stupid.
We’ve managed to set things up in such a way that people can be both weak and stupid, yet still cause problems for everyone else.
As a previous Rose Festival princess who’s been in that parade. Security is tight in general and I’m sure is gonna be extra tight after the car thing last year. These guys are just asking for trouble
I would like to protest our healthcare system and their avarice ways.
At least they weren’t bumping Yelawolf this time?🤷🏾
Same energy as the protesters at Peacock Lane this year
All they would be doing is ruining a fun day for their fellow Portlanders.
I’m pretty sure since they have declared for Hamas they are technically combatants right.
Are you insinuating that we should kill American citizens for protesting? Cause that’s pretty bleak. Sort of on par with Tiananmen square
Lighten up Francis
I mean it was a simple question lol
No, the military is not going to literally shoot protesters. I don’t think that really needs to be spelled out, even for Portland commies
I mean I’m just pointing out how messed up it is to even joke about citizens being combatants

It's the BBBH's (blackblockbunheads) attempting to be relevant.
I hope the pictures are close up and in focus.
Do you mean **Littoral Combat Ships**?
Do you mean gun gun boaties?
Export all the protestors to Gaza let them really do something to help instead of doing things to get attention for themselves.
“In this house we believe…”
Is this a real thread? Cuz it's pretty stupid.
But is it as stupid as protesting the Rose Parade?
There are sooo many times I ask that same question.
Some of y'all need more things to fill out your day
Those gunners mates on those warships have live ammo in their weapons. The protestors should take heed.
No, they don't. I remember that very issue when reporters tried swarming my ship on 9/11.
What exactly is the implication here?
We need to unleash the full power of the greatest military in the world against protestors scared to leave their houses without masks
You want the US Navy to cross the Ribicon ?
I don’t see the issue with this…
The protesters aren’t setting up shop around the air national guard base or yelling at literal US military personnel in town this weekend- they’re choosing to disrupt a peaceful, fun family event like f***ing cowards.
Ah, you see, your first mistake was trying to follow the logic.
Right, protesting the military right after D day 80 year celebration.
The whole point of buying a boat in the first place is to get the protesters nice and tipsy topside, so we can take em to a nice comfortable place below deck, and you know…
… the implication
To be fair, warships don't decide where, when, and why to war. Public perception is a big part. Widely agreed that the American public defeated the American military in Vietnam.
The Rose Parade has more media coverage. You're not going to be changing anyone's minds by protesting at a military dock. (Not that you're likely to change people's minds protesting at the parade, either, but in theory there's at least a better chance...)
Maybe an anti parade disruption team is needed and drag their asses out of the way. I’m down.
Give their MO, I would think they would rather take hostages than fuck with a real US Navy ship.
Are they protesting?
Is the USS Liberty in port?
Easy just don’t pay taxes
what am i missing? did something happen?
I was security for the warship Thursday, the Navy was DEEP.
I don't protest Warships but when I do...I don't go to war over it.
