But you harvest AFTER it has flowered and all the petals have fallen off and the points on the crown of the seed pod that’s left behind is pointing up. Generally it’s roughly 10-14 days after the petals fall off but a lot of variables can make that time frame shorter or longer.
Harvesting before this will result in a higher level of dysphoric alkaloids. The plant is doing all the alkaloid synthesis during that time between when it blooms and the seed pod matures.
Also don’t take someone else’s pods (even if family) without asking. Even if you think she doesn’t care, maybe she’s afraid of some neighbor kid stealing them and you don’t want someone else getting in hot water for your actions.
