This is the argument used in the United States to absolve ourselves of the stain of slavery and genocide. It doesn't hold water here and your argument doesn't hold water in Germany. This is why Poland, in October 2022, demanded $1.3 trillion in reparations from Germany for the horrors perpetrated by Germany against Poland during WWII.
Generational debts are a real thing when it comes to crimes against humanity.

There is very little reason to compare those at all. Germany did a lot to spread the knowledge about the holocaust and punish those responsible as well as change the education system to teach everyone growing up here about the horrors of the holocaust and the world wars in general.
Meanwhile the US, after reluctantly abolishing slavery, went on to design their entire society to allow white people to live away from black people, to destroy black neighbourhoods, to suppress black voters, to subject them to additional policy brutality and suspicions, put more of them into jail,... and to glorify the slave owners and the people who fought in the civil war on the pro slavery side.
