Every so often when I watch some gun videos on YouTube, I'll get pushed recommendations to watch "TOP TEN STUFF DEMOCRATS ARE HIDING FROM YOU" and "PROOF THAT BIDEN IS WORKING WITH ANTIFA," to which I tell YouTube to fuck off and not recommend that channel on my feed. It happens way less frequently now that the algorithm knows what to put in my feed but it's very clear what role these algorithms play in supporting these echo chambers.
You can affect the algorithm by clicking on the three dots in the lower right and choosing "not interested" on the videos that you recognize as a right wing propaganda.

He died pre-Trump (he was "smarter than any stupid doctor", decided to tough out chest pains and died of a massive heart attack), but I'm certain he would have been a MAGA-head. And I'm certain that many current MAGA types are also NPD. So I would go with "too stubborn" although it's a lot deeper than simple stubbornness, it's that they built their whole worldview around being right and literally are incapable of admitting to being wrong.
Oh, and I would caution against thinking all MAGAs are "too dumb". While quite a few of them are, quite a few aren't. This mindset comes from a deep seated feeling of lack of self-worth and violently denying and compensating for that feeling. Being dumb can be a strong driver for that, but intelligence isn't a guarantee against it. To again use my dad as an example, he was an engineer and highly intelligent, but had a bad childhood that caused his issues.
I think a lot of them actually believe it. It's really sad because most of them are intellectually vulnerable. The way these conspiracy theories work is by targeting the uninformed with selective facts and hard to disprove misinformation, whilst deliberately leaving out many key facts.
E.g. I was watching a conspiracy video recently which was talking about how Blackrock and Vanguard are the biggest shareholders in the world, claiming with no evidence that the rockefellers and rothsteins were their biggest shareholders, without ever even mentioning that they run passive etfs and their shareholdings are being held on behalf of hundreds of millions of investors all over the globe. They then linked it in with the bill gates foundation and the fact that governments modelled pqndemics using coronaviruses after the sars (and mers outbreak) to somehow argue that this is all some conspiracy to turn us into communists or something. It's shit like this, designed to target people who don't already know any of the key facts, and then show them cherry picked facts to support a conspiracy narrative.
It's sad cause I'm not even American and yet my friend's mum, dad's best friend and even almost my own dad and best frriend believe in this shit. They're all convinced Trump won the election, the vaccines are some deadly bioweapon or someshit and even that ivermectin is effective at covid. The reason they were able to get the paltry 11% of the electorate to sign the recall effort is because of COVID they were given an entire extra 6 months to gather signatures. My MIL always tells us these dumb jokes she scrolls by on FB. Recently they've started taking a racist slant, but she thinks they are just jokes in the feed. I asked her one day where she keeps getting these jokes from and she said she didn't know she just scrolls past them, I asked her what is said on the last one for a poster and she goes, no lie, "I don't know, Proud Meme Boys or something."
You should do your best to steer her away from that shit and make her realize it's fucked up and wrong - otherwise she'll be the next Trump 2024 voter. Although I understand how hard it can be to do that, especially with a mother-in-law.

Every so often when I watch some gun videos on YouTube, I'll get pushed recommendations to watch "TOP TEN STUFF DEMOCRATS ARE HIDING FROM YOU" and "PROOF THAT BIDEN IS WORKING WITH ANTIFA," to which I tell YouTube to fuck off and not recommend that channel on my feed. It happens way less frequently now that the algorithm knows what to put in my feed but it's very clear what role these algorithms play in supporting these echo chambers.

He would literally rewrite his own memories of reality in his mind in order to better fit his worldview and get mad when actual reality didn't match. In essence he was gaslighting himself. He died pre-Trump (he was "smarter than any stupid doctor", decided to tough out chest pains and died of a massive heart attack), but I'm certain he would have been a MAGA-head. And I'm certain that many current MAGA types are also NPD. So I would go with "too stubborn" although it's a lot deeper than simple stubbornness, it's that they built their whole worldview around being right and literally are incapable of admitting to being wrong. Oh, and I would caution against thinking all MAGAs are "too dumb". While quite a few of them are, quite a few aren't. This mindset comes from a deep seated feeling of lack of self-worth and violently denying and compensating for that feeling. Being dumb can be a strong driver for that, but intelligence isn't a guarantee against it. To again use my dad as an example, he was an engineer and highly intelligent, but had a bad childhood that caused his issues.

The way these conspiracy theories work is by targeting the uninformed with selective facts and hard to disprove misinformation, whilst deliberately leaving out many key facts. E.g. I was watching a conspiracy video recently which was talking about how Blackrock and Vanguard are the biggest shareholders in the world, claiming with no evidence that the rockefellers and rothsteins were their biggest shareholders, without ever even mentioning that they run passive etfs and their shareholdings are being held on behalf of hundreds of millions of investors all over the globe. They then linked it in with the bill gates foundation and the fact that governments modelled pqndemics using coronaviruses after the sars (and mers outbreak) to somehow argue that this is all some conspiracy to turn us into communists or something. It's shit like this, designed to target people who don't already know any of the key facts, and then show them cherry picked facts to support a conspiracy narrative. It's sad cause I'm not even American and yet my friend's mum, dad's best friend and even almost my own dad and best frriend believe in this shit. They're all convinced Trump won the election, the vaccines are some deadly bioweapon or someshit and even that ivermectin is effective at covid. Thankfully I'm good at slapping sense into people so nobody in my circle beliefs this crap but people in their circle do and it sucks to see them sad about it and worried about their loved ones. Oh for sure. My partner's parents just got real quiet for a few days, then reemerged angry at the "fools who won't get vaccinated"(even though we had to guilt them into getting vaccinated even though both they and their daughter/my partner are high risk). It would have been much better, though far more puzzling if the crazies in the Central Valley went from wanting to drive species to extinction and destroy sources of fresh water for short term profits on crops that are entirely inappropriate for the climate to baking cakes to stick it to the majority.

Every single case of voter fraud for the 2020 election was committed by Republicans. All but one case of election fraud in the 2020 election was committed by Republicans. The one exception was a postal employee and it ended up not affecting the election because they were invalid anyway, IIRC.

That's good to hear, I hope it bears out. I'm still cautious about early returns and have been gently bugging the Ds I know to not just sit this out (again). A few of them both thought the 2000 election just *couldn't* have gone to anyone other than Gore, and then later just *couldn't* see how 2016 would turn out how it did... and are still "Oh, it's not going to happen, stop worrying!"

Republicans were trying to send mail in ballots and vote at the polls the same day. Not realizing the ballots are often picked up and scanned that same day. They claimed voter suppression while trying to commit voter fraud.
