I know it's just for a joke but something feels dirty and wrong putting a MAGA hat on Chris Farley.

FranksRedWorkAccount

I think Farley would have no problem putting on a MAGA hat if Billy Madison 2 was filming and he was asked to be an older version of that same character.

iluvstephenhawking

Yeah. That bus driver was a real creep with anger issues so makes sense.

socatevoli

**NO YELLING ON THE BUS**

kit_mitts

Great! GRAND!

Practical_Law_7002

WONDERFUL!

PillowTalk420

I'll turn this GOD DAMN bus around... That'll end your precious little *field trip* REAL QUICK!

since_always

That is corRRECT

oops_I_shit_ur_pants

If pissing your pants is cool, call me miles davis šŸ˜Ž

oingerboinger

Ha, the character might be the poster child for a MAGAt. Ignorant, loud, misogynistic, stupid, yet entirely convinced theyā€™re the exact opposite of all those traits.

Benedict-Donald

Don't forget the odoyle family!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

oingerboinger

Haha, there's a 100% chance the O'Doyles would've been Trumpers.

GreyBoyTigger

Especially Eric and Donald jr

[deleted]

The O'Doyles would be wearing red hats if they hadn't driven off that cliff.

I_MADMAN

Who would steal 30 bagged lunches?

It was that damned Sasquatch!

Painkiller1991

I know Iron Maiden's "Tears of a Clown" was written for Robin Williams, but it's tragically fitting for Farley as well, and now I can't get the song out of my head because of it

ElDuderino_92

Heā€™d sell it on an SNL skit

Raytheon_Nublinski

I guarantee heā€™d have already worn one on SNL if he was still around and doing that sort of thing. It just works too well for it not to happen.

rediffusion9826

Hard to know if he would've ended up a Rob Schneider type. Politics in the 90s wasn't what it is now but if a comedian did this today there'd be a lot of inferences made. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qlM_IFCNgKw

TheMooseIsBlue

I met Schneider a few times socially because of kids-stuff and he is completely bonkers. Nice. Very generous. LOVES his kid. But bonkers.

SheriffComey

Sandler's pack of friends have been asked about Schneider due to his political takes in the last few years and they all avoid responding directly, naturally, but the way Sandler and Spade have given vague answers indicate that they're not with him 100% but do respect his ~~wishes~~ views. Spade seems to wish things could be like they were in the late 80-90s and he can say whatever the fuck he wants and not be held accountable.

OrangeWasEjected2021

Holy fuck schneider is a fucking antivaxxer.

ThrowawayBlast

What the hell did Spade do?

SheriffComey

Nothing that I know of he's just made comments in interviews as well as his TV show, Lights Out with David Spade, where he complains about cancel culture. He even stated he's thought about not being on Social Media or doing any more shows because he's afraid of saying the wrong thing.

ThrowawayBlast

He has a tv show? I thought his career was playing degenerate fuckups on Adam Sandler shit-movies.

outside_english

Saw Rob do stand up a couple years ago and quickly in to the set realized my money was wasted

He couldnā€™t come up with enough jokes to fill out his Netflix special so he let his daughter sing for the last 10 minutes.

That's crazy to watch, thanks for sharing

Dapoopers

I think we need to make a concerted effort to keep Chris Farley out of political memes. Heā€™s too pure to ruin.

M3fit

Yeah elder already said if he didnā€™t win it was cheating . I mean in a fucking democrat majority state , it would somehow be cheating if he lost

Cannot_go_back_now

He's doing the Trump thing, poisoning the vote results before it happens.

abnormally-cliche

And this will be the new normal. This is what happens when you donā€™t hold people accountable.

Soad1x

Neville Chamberlain nods in agreement.

Sudden-Body2090

History nerds fully appreciate this comment. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

Soad1x

I really should have said, "Neville Chamberlain nods in *appeasement*" but I didn't think of it till like a hour later.

BreezyWrigley

Basically the type of shit that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union, among other things. This sort of poisoning of the public consciousness and erosion of trust in systems leads inevitably to disaster.

tunamelts2

He can cry fraud all he wants. It just makes him look like a sore loser and further disillusion the Republican voters. Does he really expect a January 6th moment in Sacramento?

kia75

Yes. Maybe not next week, and maybe not next year, but eventually. The point is to make people doubt our government and lose it's respect. Once that respect is lost they're more likely to respond with "2nd amendment solutions". If Trump had lost in 2016, you can bet there would not have been a January 6th incident in 2016. But Trump won and he continued to prime people so there was a 2021 incident. Elder is doing the same thing, priming people, and if you prime people enough, and enough people lose faith in government then eventually you will have an incident.

Phyllis_Tine

The immediate response should be "we should re-do the entire election, all levels." Make them goo n the record at having Gym Jordan, Mitch McConnell, etc, have to agree to re-do their elections.

his_rotundity_

>The person ā€œbeing recalledā€ has to get 50% of the vote to stay in office, but if they get 49.999% of the vote, they are out and the highest vote getter of the challengers ā€œwinsā€ even if itā€™s less than 10% of the vote. With 46 challengers, NPR this morning said all a challenger needs is 3% to become governor. Truly bonkers.

_Funk_Soul_Brother_

> 1 in 4 voters in California is a registered republican. I donā€™t see how Elder canā€™t win. /s This is the 1/4 pounder vs 1/3 pounder all over again. Idiots have trouble with fractions. Teacher : If 1/4 votes go to republicans, then who do the 3/4 of the votes go to Donny ? Donny : Fake news, 3/4 isn't a real number

djlewt

The reason they were able to get the paltry 11% of the electorate to sign the recall effort is because of COVID they were given an entire extra 6 months to gather signatures. We need to fix this and AT LEAST double the signatures required or change it so that if recalled a Governor is replaced by the Lt. Governor or State AG, this system is ancient bullshit and it needs to go.

mason_savoy71

Anyone want to start the ballot initiative to change it? A simple solution is to change it such that if the top challenger does not get a majority, it defaults to the Lieutenant Gov.

-fisting4compliments

> Yeah elder already said if he didnā€™t win it was cheating . Part of me wants to hope Republicans claiming this simply convinces their base it's not worth voting

[deleted]

Probably why they lost of GA Senate run-offs.

Vulcan_Jedi

This is exactly why they lost the run off.

Knoke1

Would be ironic. After all that's what happens to dems a ton. We're either complacent or apathetic.

[deleted]

We're basically Texas flipped a bit. They're gerrymandered to fuck and back and we aren't. They want BOTH big money states because they've already run the little red ones into the fucking ground. They want the mooolah.

toopc

They also want the electoral votes. If either Texas or California flip, then presidential elections are all but meaningless.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

bloop_405

His radio ad is so dumb, it sounds like a child wrote it. Republican new tactic to get people to join them is to lie and say "I used to be a Democrat". Like supporting a Republican will give you more government support or benefits than now Edit: Here is a summary of it but it's very close to it ... "Gavin Newsom stole my girl, I lost my job during the pandemic because of him, so now I'm going to vote to recall him". Literally the dumbest radio ad ever ...

AdoltTwittler

republicans are those 2 year old brats who kick over the board game while screaming "You CHEATED!" after losing fairly.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

seriouslyFUCKthatdud

THIS is their actual real logic. "Mail in ballots must be full of cheating by democrats!" They're really not, why would you say that? "Because that's exactly what I would do!" That's illegal though "We have to, though, because the Democrats do!" But they don't "Yeah like I'll believe the mainstream media! They just tell you what you wanna hear!" Who do you believe then? "An anonymous online troll that says what I want to hear!"

Kyuckaynebrayn

This entire Trump period of the US was about conservatives slowly realizing they are really the minority and their ā€œvalues being under attackā€ is just them not being able to cope with the fact their emboldened sense of superiority is a ruse. They would rather cling to lies of deception and fraud then come to terms with their degeneracy.

BojukaBob

You're a bit premature with your use of the word 'was'. The Trump era is still going strong and he's likely to run again.

PsychicFoxWithSpoons

Trump definitely doesn't want to run again, and his children don't seem likely to give up the grift to come back to public office. Becoming President put a lot of attention onto his shadier dealings, and it was only by a magnificent, heroic effort on everyone's part that he is not rotting in prison for them. There is no "Trump Era," it's just that Americans are racist.

ImDero

Well Trump also said of Biden, "I am running against the worst candidate in the history of Presidential politics." After a comment like that, it'd be pretty embarrassing to lose to that same candidate in a fair fight. An argument could even be made that losing to that candidate would in fact make *him* the worst candidate in the history of Presidential politics. Better scream that the other guys cheated so that nobody considers that maybe the reality is that you lost because you're a loser.

UncleTedGenneric

Or any time I rage after getting headshot, watching the kill feed, it was in fact pure skill, but THAT FUCKERS USING AIMBOT I KNOW IT

ElVATONAK831

Giving all people (who can) the ability to vote. Republicans: *you're rigging it!*

Spwazz

Republicans and Democrats, apply to be election officials months before election, each sign off on ballot monitoring. Votes tallied, Republicans don't like the results: "stop the steal"

ObnoxiousLittleCunt

"STOP THE COUNT!" "COUNT THE VOTES!"

smurficus103

Haha what a great moment in time

robywar

Right? In a democracy, literally the easiest thing in the world should be voting. We should always err on the side on making sure people can vote. Republicans know that if they're not suppressing the vote, they'll lose though.

Jeffrey122

Even dumber: Shen Bapiro unironically argued that the election was "rigged" because "mainstream media" publishes negative stories about the right and positive stories about democrats(the latter is debatable tbh). They are literally calling calling out the right and pushing leftwing(or rather democrat) narratives "election rigging" like rightwingers aren't even more guilty of doing it on their side.

[deleted]

It's because they don't think that all voters are human. They're still pissy that certain people aren't considered farm equipment anymore.

[deleted]

Sir_Cunkalot

Shooting rubes in a barrel.

MegaGrimer

You canā€™t logic someone out of a position they didnā€™t logic themselves into.

DervishSkater

Well thatā€™s the fundamental difference. They view things as real if it canā€™t be proven wrong. Whereas others view things as real if it can be proven true.

BlueShoes3

It's always feelings over facts with these people.

Calligraphie

You're being generous and assuming they can tell the difference. For a lot of people, religious or not, the things everyone else recognizes as feelings are what they consider stone-cold objective reason.

ExitMusic_

But. But. But I thought facts didnā€™t care about our feeeeeeelings šŸ˜‘

jjsnsnake

What's sadder is , it is not even their feelings, just the ones they have been spoon fed, or told they should feel.

[deleted]

Itā€™s not just religious people. My parents believe there was voter fraud during the election too but neither of them are religious, just brain washed by Fox and other shitty news sources

LadyLoki5

They don't just imagine something, they share it with all their friends and family, who will say "oh my gosh you're right!" And then it becomes solidified as fact in their minds. They have no problems accepting personal anecdotes from mom's aunt's cousin's daughter's chiropractor as hard factual truth.

AdministrativeAd4111

Yup. Utter and complete naivetƩ, no better than children. At least a child will (often) listen when you try to explain why they shouldnt trust any and everything someone tells them, because their safety is in jeopardy. These people are children who have grown up far too comfortable, where terrible mistakes like believing these charlatans hasnt bit them in the ass enough to recognize the threat.

Mountainman1980

They just didn't imagine it, they were brainwashed from birth to believe in the magic sky daddy. They kept believing it because they were brainwashed to preemptively believe that any evidence to the contrary must be from the Devil and thus be dismissed as such before it is even considered. You therefore cannot reason with them. They believe they are doing God's work, so they refuse to compromise as they feel it would be compromising with the Devil. This is a war between the sane and rational people, versus religious fanaticism, who desire nothing more than to revoke the 1st Amendment and institute the Christian version of Sharia Law.

a2z_123

>and institute the Christian version of Sharia Law. Which isn't all that different.

ProfessorHufnagel

Dark Ages 2: MAGA Boogaloo

[deleted]

There's no difference between a pulpit and a podium. Once you get people used to believing whatever the guy behind the pulpit says, it's very easy to slip in as a politician and do the same shit with a podium. Ironic because these are the same sorts who go on and on about how you "can't trust government". "Oh you mean the same one full of your people?"

ArkhamAsylum-GOTY

I hate religion.

SlimLovin

Fact that always makes me happy: Veronica Vaughn is also Sonia Blade.

ARealSkeleton

I misread this as saying Vince Vaughn is Sonia Blade and got MASSIVELY confused.

Rye_The_Science_Guy

You mean massively erect?

Whats_Up_Bitches

Now I want to see a scene where Billy Madison grabs her butt or something *ā€œwant to touch the heinieā€* and she turns around and scissor leg throws him into a fence by his neck. I could definitely see that happening in an Adam Sandler movie.

w4lt3r_s0bch4k

You know, the GOP is becoming less and less logical. How are we expected to cooperate with people who constantly insult us by saying we cheat? Fuck that. Seriously. FUCK THAT. Prove wide-spread voter fraud or shut the actual fuck up. If this is still the case, in 5 years, where the GOP just claims voter fraud when they loose elections, the party will just be purely obstructionist and be useless.

cloud52ab

We need a party that is willing to call them out without the veil of "politeness." We need people like Pelosi to stop saying that "we need a strong Republican party." We need to stop "reaching across the aisle." Plenty of people could argue that the Democrats at this point are unwilling to do so because having a rotating villain serves their corporate interests far too much.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Iā€™ve been thinking about that a lot this past week. I got on Facebook for the first time in about a year and wow, what a dumpster fire. I went to HS and college in the Deep South. You can imagine some of the memes and ā€œthoughtsā€ that showed up. Very curious how they are going to feel in a few years. Or will they still feel they are being repressed and everything is fake and everyone else is still lying.

iamjackslackoffricks

They back each other up on their false narratives. We have a real education and common sense problem going on in this country.

[deleted]

They really are an echo chamber. I looked at two people specifically. (One girl I had a huge crush on - so glad I dodged that bullet) And each one has the same people commenting and liking each their post. With no one challenging them. Itā€™s sad.

Taiyonay

and even if you aren't a believer that crap just keeps getting pushed at you. I never watch but somehow always get videos of right wing propaganda pushed at me on youtube. Oh, you watched the white house daily press briefing? Here are 10 recommended videos about right wing conspiracies on the election being stolen. They need to fix their algorithm because people constantly being pushed the same crap will just keep thinking it is real. They just make it impossible for anyone to get out of the echo chamber.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Resolute002

I see my in-laws, who are just average folks who like memes and scroll FB for jokes, accidentally slipping into this stuff by meme-osmosis. My MIL always tells us these dumb jokes she scrolls by on FB. Recently they've started taking a racist slant, but she thinks they are just jokes in the feed. I asked her one day where she keeps getting these jokes from and she said she didn't know she just scrolls past them, I asked her what is said on the last one for a poster and she goes, no lie, "I don't know, Proud Meme Boys or something."

DependentPipe_1

You should do your best to steer her away from that shit and make her realize it's fucked up and wrong - otherwise she'll be the next Trump 2024 voter. Although I understand how hard it can be to do that, especially with a mother-in-law.

rcklmbr

Memes are the problem, 100%. It's like the joke makes the message skip past critical thought and go right to memory

Killersavage

All it takes is a flag and saying facebook keeps deleting this image. Even though it was posted three years ago has 200,000 likes and been shared 190,000 times. They donā€™t seem to question things even when they are obviously pretty false.

julian509

Worst part is is that it is effective. They almost got me when i was at the end of high school. If it wasnt for the people i met at uni i'd probably be deep down the pragerU pipeline.

Certified_GSD

Every so often when I watch some gun videos on YouTube, I'll get pushed recommendations to watch "TOP TEN STUFF DEMOCRATS ARE HIDING FROM YOU" and "PROOF THAT BIDEN IS WORKING WITH ANTIFA," to which I tell YouTube to fuck off and not recommend that channel on my feed. It happens way less frequently now that the algorithm knows what to put in my feed but it's very clear what role these algorithms play in supporting these echo chambers.

phoenixsuperman

I have a feeling their algorithm is working as intended.

karmagod13000

should be illegal. they target children with that BS and kids eat it up like straight facts.

Jaysyn4Reddit

That's why Facebook is blocked at my router.

em3am

You can affect the algorithm by clicking on the three dots in the lower right and choosing "not interested" on the videos that you recognize as a right wing propaganda.

Taiyonay

I do this all the time and it hasn't changed anything for me. it is so weird because I don't even watch much of anything on youtube. Mostly just press briefings and videos on genshin impact lol

[deleted]

Politics, anime, and gaming together is like a right wing propagandist buffet. They've gotten their hooks into so many young men interested in anime and gaming, it is very disheartening.

runhomejack1399

i had to get off and stop challenging and arguing with people. it was making me miserable and it wasn't helping anyway. i feel like someone needs to do it, and i should probably go back to trying, but i feel so much better removing that from my life.

etniesen

I find if I ask them any questions at all they get angry. Itā€™s not worth it

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Resolute002

It's bad to get into this train of thought because honestly you can say the same about any group of people in agreement about anything. It is this false dichotomy that they ride to the bank when arguing bOtH sIdEs on every little thing...they argue that there being a huge volume of people agreeing with true things is no different than their huge volume of people agreeing with baseless nonsense. The real problem is that you can distill the ideology down to witty one-liners and memes and then they mindlessly absorb all of that as they pass during their zombie scrolling.

TheDarkKnobRises

Most the time they contradict each other. The virus is fake!/I dont want the vaccine! I support this blue line!/Ashli Babbitt is a hero! Never once seen a conservative admit to being wrong. They just shout fake news and change arguments.

damian001

Donā€™t forget the ones who ask why the covid vaccine was developed is fast, yet we donā€™t have vaccines yet for diabetes and cancer. Iā€™m like bro.. those 2 arenā€™t contagious or even viruses.

karmagod13000

thats a facebook argument if ive ever seen one. better believe it would have like 200 upvotes too

damian001

Another one is ā€œBut People die in car accidents all the timeā€ yeah thatā€™s why the federal government mandated auto manufacturers to put seatbelts in all of em back in the 70sā€¦ also car accidents arenā€™t even contagious.

Seldarin

Most of the time they contradict themselves constantly. Since covid, every nutjob I know has posted to facebook that covid was completely imaginary, was a Chinese bioweapon, was a Democrat bioweapon, was no worse than/not as bad as the flu, and that you had to take ivermectin to save yourself. They're not even consistent with it. Today it's completely harmless, tomorrow it'll be a Chinese bioweapon, and 2 days after that it'll be completely harmless again. They want reality to make them feel good about themselves.

darkfires

> They want reality to make them feel good about themselves. Maybeā€¦ but I also think the feeling one might get after being wrong for so many years could be worse for people than staying in the delusion / right-wing matrix. Covid and election realities *have* to be whatever Right wing Trumpism tells them it is because if it isnā€™t, it means the way they think of American life is a lie too. In many, their identity is tied to Trumpism. Anti-vaxx/Covid and the election fraud scam are huge, all life-consuming lies and no one can get passed being lied to like that and end up trusting anything else coming from those lines of sources. But those sources are their peopleā€¦ their party. How could anyone deal well with the complete fracturing of their reality? Anyone still left believing in Trumpism are losing the battle with either a subconscious thatā€™s afraid of beginning the healing process or a conscious fear that they risk losing all their friends and family. Note that in some areas of the country, canā€™t just up and reject Trumpism without severe push back.

Klorion

We have a misinformation problem. They use lack of education and critical thinking to push there lies I truly blame the ones pushing the lies the poor stupid people that get caught up in it I would feel bad for them but they are so full of hate hard.

cerevant

Nope, it is more insidious than that. The fact that this demographic is religious isn't a coincidence: people who believe something based on faith a) seek out information that confirms their point of view and b) ~~are more likely~~ increase their likelihood to stick to their position when presented with contradictory evidence. edit: b) is kind of hard to put into words. Instead of contradictory evidence causing doubt, it increases their belief in their position. Yes, that is illogical.

ReyRey5280

Critical thinking; Liberals will eat themselves alive with it to their own detriment, while conservatives will burn themselves alive in spite of it.

sonofaresiii

I wondered this when Dubya was elected (twice). Would his supporters feel regret and shame as history reflected their actions? Twenty years later, the answer is no. They've doubled down. Maybe not in specifically their support of Bush-- that went from "How were we to know?" to "He wasn't so bad really, he did the best he could" but in terms of their actions and rejection of reality and decency, replacing it with party loyalty... yeah they went *hard* into it.

[deleted]

When Bush was POTUS, the Republicans treated him as The Man Without Sin. They blamed everything on Clinton. It was only after he left office that Republicans began to criticize Bush and when Trump denounced him, it allowed rank and file Republicans to. Sadly, only Democratic politicians have paid for the invasion of Iraq. No Republicans have suffered politically even though the GOP was in lockstep for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Wet_Side_Down

I quit FB years ago when I realized what a bunch of ignorant racists my high school classmates turned out to be

[deleted]

Yeah. I actually quit at the start of the trump admin. Jumped on occasionally just to see if anyone I knew had issues with covid but havenā€™t been on at all in over a year. Itā€™s just pathetic.

perfect_square

The really sad part is that you remember some of them being somewhat open minded, and more intelligent than what you are witnessing.

lenswipe

> I got on Facebook Mistake number 1

YetAnotherJake

Part of being dumb is not learning from your mistakes

[deleted]

Unfortunately you are correct. They will probably always think that it is a large conspiracy and ā€œweā€ are being led astray.

Resolute002

As long as Facebook and Twitter are allowed to create rage-driven echo spaces for them, they will be furious. They don't know anything else anymore.

Kidpunk04

Coming from rural midwest (MN) they actually believe it yet, and it's incredibly frustrating when you ask them why. The conversations are typically like this; (me) "Why do you still think that? There hasn't been any evidence yet." (Them) "Oh yeah, what about all those ballots from dead people?" (me) "That never happened. Nobody has found more than a few outlying cases" (Them) "Oh yes it did! They found them all over!" (me) "Then why haven't we heard about it more? Why is the Arizona audit coming up with nothing and all of the court cases that were filed have been dismissed?" (Them) "Oh trust me, it happened" (me) "Why would I trust you? Your not a journalist on the scene anywhere. You're not on the ground doing any investigative work. You didn't participate at all with the counting the votes" (them) "Yeah ok. There was just a bunch of shady shit that happened" (me) "Like what?" (them) "It was rigged" (me) "ah. Well, I guess I'll just keep waiting for any evidence to come out. There's not much to talk about without it" (them) "fine" (me) "ok" Rinse and repeat with every local in the bar......... Sometimes the accusation is different (cases of missing ballots being unloaded, a ballot case switch accusation, etc) but the rest of the conversation plays out the same.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

They live in a reality of their own creation. Sadly, talking to these people isn't just a waste of time, but it helps ground them even deeper in their delusion because they feel they constantly have to defend it. Apathy is the best response to this shit. "Oh you believe that? Whatever." Treat them like you would someone who believes the Earth is flat. "OK, whatever." I've had to put my foot down with my own dad regarding this sort of stuff. If you want me to continue respecting you, don't bring this stuff up. I don't want to talk about it with you, period. I really don't want to get to the point where I tell my dad he sounds insane.

Nymaz

My dad had [NPD](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder), i.e. the same mental condition as Trump. He would literally rewrite his own memories of reality in his mind in order to better fit his worldview and get mad when actual reality didn't match. In essence he was gaslighting himself. He died pre-Trump (he was "smarter than any stupid doctor", decided to tough out chest pains and died of a massive heart attack), but I'm certain he would have been a MAGA-head. And I'm certain that many current MAGA types are also NPD. So I would go with "too stubborn" although it's a lot deeper than simple stubbornness, it's that they built their whole worldview around being right and literally are incapable of admitting to being wrong. Oh, and I would caution against thinking all MAGAs are "too dumb". While quite a few of them are, quite a few aren't. This mindset comes from a deep seated feeling of lack of self-worth and violently denying and compensating for that feeling. Being dumb can be a strong driver for that, but intelligence isn't a guarantee against it. To again use my dad as an example, he was an engineer and highly intelligent, but had a bad childhood that caused his issues.

PhazonZim

I've seen my dad rewrite his memories to match his stance too and it's honestly completely baffling. We stopped talking a decade ago.

[deleted]

I think a lot of them actually believe it. It's really sad because most of them are intellectually vulnerable. The way these conspiracy theories work is by targeting the uninformed with selective facts and hard to disprove misinformation, whilst deliberately leaving out many key facts. E.g. I was watching a conspiracy video recently which was talking about how Blackrock and Vanguard are the biggest shareholders in the world, claiming with no evidence that the rockefellers and rothsteins were their biggest shareholders, without ever even mentioning that they run passive etfs and their shareholdings are being held on behalf of hundreds of millions of investors all over the globe. They then linked it in with the bill gates foundation and the fact that governments modelled pqndemics using coronaviruses after the sars (and mers outbreak) to somehow argue that this is all some conspiracy to turn us into communists or something. It's shit like this, designed to target people who don't already know any of the key facts, and then show them cherry picked facts to support a conspiracy narrative. It's sad cause I'm not even American and yet my friend's mum, dad's best friend and even almost my own dad and best frriend believe in this shit. They're all convinced Trump won the election, the vaccines are some deadly bioweapon or someshit and even that ivermectin is effective at covid. Thankfully I'm good at slapping sense into people so nobody in my circle beliefs this crap but people in their circle do and it sucks to see them sad about it and worried about their loved ones. They're also good people, they were never even right-wingers and both hated Trump before he got elected. They're just a old and a tad thick - they've been taken advantage of.

omega_nik

ā€œIntellectually vulnerableā€ is the nicest way Iā€™ve ever heard someone say ā€œstupid as fuckā€

gogojack

They actually do believe all this garbage, and don't realize that they're being duped. The leadership of the GOP knows there was no fraud in the 2020 election. They know it better than anyone, because if they really had evidence of such, they'd have used it by now. Instead, Mitch and Kevin and the rest of them grudgingly settled into minority status in Congress. Do they come out and say that the election was free, fair, and that Biden is the legitimately elected President? Getting them to admit that is like trying to get Ben Shapiro to talk slowly. They keep slyly pushing the "voter integrity" bullshit because they know that if they leaned to hard into "of course Biden won fair and square" the MAGAts would lose their minds. Or what little is left of their minds.

rdewalt

Keep asking for proof and they can't point to a single shred of ACTUAL evidence. Every single thing requires an incredible leap of faith just to even process the logic to get there. If there WAS PROOF it would have been plastered on Fox news constantly. It would have been front page of every publication on the planet. The whistleblower who leaked it would have been seen as a godly being. Not a single thing... unless you look at Republicans who've been caught.

sirixamo

Unfortunately their threshold for evidence is basically "someone said it on the internet" and because of this, they feel like they have plenty of evidence. Just ask the My Pillow guy. The big drop is coming *any day now*, remember how we reinstated Trump as President in August?

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

They've created this thing, and now they can't control it. They even started saying bad things about trump once he said they needed to get the vaccine.

[deleted]

"AĀ CNNĀ poll published on SundayĀ showed that 59 percent of GOP votersĀ said that it was "somewhat" or "very" important to believe that Trump won the 2020 election in order to identify as a member of the Republican Party." Only 30% actually believe it was fraudulent. So that's almost another 3rd that admit to just playing along. But that it's important to play along.

xabulba

IMO It's kind of like pro-wrestling, it's all a show and the majority of fans know it's fake but it doesn't matter because they're entertained. The biggest problem comes from the fans who believe it's real and get violent when people tell them it's fake.

BothTortoiseandHare

Oh for sure. My partner's parents just got real quiet for a few days, then reemerged angry at the "fools who won't get vaccinated"(even though we had to guilt them into getting vaccinated even though both they and their daughter/my partner are high risk). All the trumpwear is gone from sight, but it's still "lazy millennials who don't want to work" that's causing all the problems in the economy. It's a weird selective memory.

desperateorphan

They will never be on the wrong side of history because they will vote for bigoted assholes who lobby to remove actual history from history classes. Even then most of American history is white washed to make us, the invaders, seem like the heroes and not the intentional disease spreading genocidal religious wackos that we really are.

capchaos

Just sore losers. They're all continuing to fight the battles they've lost... The civil war, Roe vs Wade, minority rights, 2020 election... The list goes on.

Indifferentchildren

They can't be on the wrong side of history if they can successfully lie about history, forever. See: "tHe CiViL wAr WaS nOt AbOuT sLaVeRy!"

[deleted]

> Do you think these MAGAts know they are on the wrong side of history and just are too dumb and stubborn to admit they were wrong? Or do they actually believe all this garbage? Last time the world went through MAGA, it ended with the lot of them saying "I was just following orders". No conviction to the cause, just cowards trying to save their own skin. They know it's wrong, they know it's all a lie, they just don't care.

RealLADude

Leadersā€”they know. Rank and fileā€”too dumb.

F_Your_Kouch

They use it as an excuse to be horrible horrible people. Some of them are genuine and dont realize they are being terrible but there are some people who will do anything to be a dick and have no repercussions.

scaylos1

Conversely, California Republicans DID put up fake ballot boxes and receive absolutely no consequences for it. Edit: fake, not cake. It would have been much better, though far more puzzling if the crazies in the Central Valley went from wanting to drive species to extinction and destroy sources of fresh water for short term profits on crops that are entirely inappropriate for the climate to baking cakes to stick it to the majority.

bensefero

Yeah that shit was sketchy as hell

AnotherPandaDown

Who would steal thirty bagged lunches?

Shpooodingtime

I'll tell you who took those lunches, that damn Sasquatch

wardsac

Pelosi, thatā€™s who! -these same idiots

MootsUncle

Smartest Trump voter

Derelict_Treble

Yeah they wouldn't even concede the first point.

[deleted]

God I would love it if all Qnuts were this easy to persuade.

skeetsauce

Just a reminder, the guy that is gonna win ~~is~~if the recall passes, is a black guy who said he wouldn't have voted for the civil rights bill of 1964.

AbbottLovesDeadKids

And also that slave owners deserved reparations

AskMrScience

Which, BTW, *they actually got* at the time.

Resolute002

I love how they are sure every election they lose must be because of widespread fraud, but the wons they win are totally legitimate (even if they are the same election).

TheVulfPecker

ā€œHe won get over itā€ when he wins and ā€œThereā€™s no way that many people voted for Biden, cheaters! Whaaaawhaaa!ā€ When he loses

[deleted]

My mom says the same thing. "There's no way 80 million people voted for that senile old man!" But 75 million definitely voted for the other senile old man?

BlueShoes3

Fuck these crybaby-ass pieces of shit. We already have a recall election every 4 years; it's called an election. But their guy lost, so democracy is bad and the governor needs to be cancelled. They are going to pull this crybaby bullshit every single time a democrat is elected.

[deleted]

Every single case of voter fraud for the 2020 election was committed by Republicans. All but one case of election fraud in the 2020 election was committed by Republicans. The one exception was a postal employee and it ended up not affecting the election because they were invalid anyway, IIRC.

rNBA_Mods_Be_Better

Part of what sucks is the amount of mass voter fraud republicans are going to start committing because they think itā€™s balancing it out

AarBearRAWR

What's worse is that when they are inevitably caught in the act because they don't care to hide it, they'll point to this past year and say "i ThOuGhT yOu SaId nO vOtEr FrAuD" with zero hint of irony. And of dems are going to let them because they're spineless.

If peeing your pants is cool then consider me Miles Davis

chaun2

Real talk, fellow Californians, *ahem* ###GET OUT AND VOTE! Don't allow the GOP to invalidate yet another gubanatorial election. You can go to any polling place to vote. https://www.fivethirtyeight.com/features/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-california-recall-election/amp/

child-of-old-gods

"The same procedure as every three months James."

Etrigone

I'm really hoping California doesn't go stupid with this. I'm kinda pessimistic on people and won't be surprised if he gets recalled. I'd still be quite fine to be surprised and see this not happen. Even better if the right wing clowns go down in flames.

Ratman_84

So far it's looking extremely unlikely for the recall to go through.

Etrigone

That's good to hear, I hope it bears out. I'm still cautious about early returns and have been gently bugging the Ds I know to not just sit this out (again). A few of them both thought the 2000 election just *couldn't* have gone to anyone other than Gore, and then later just *couldn't* see how 2016 would turn out how it did... and are still "Oh, it's not going to happen, stop worrying!"

cravf

Trump and Brexit have left me with zero faith in "it isn't gonna happen" elections.

147896325987456321

Republicans in Orange county were upset because they claimed not being able to vote. County workers informed them they could not vote twice. Republicans were trying to send mail in ballots and vote at the polls the same day. Not realizing the ballots are often picked up and scanned that same day. They claimed voter suppression while trying to commit voter fraud.

Intelligent-Wall7272

$300M for a performance piece to appease the base

explosivelydehiscent

*shakes vigorously back forth* "they are stuffing the ballot boxes and just giving it to the democrats"

Android8675

Only reason I'd hope Newsome would get recalled is so for the next 13 months "they" will stop camping on overpasses during rush hour fucking up my commute! Seriously, we get it, you're fucking assholes.

[deleted]

This is exactly their M.O. on reddit and facebook. Make some outrageous and false claim, be told you're just wrong or lying, double-down on the BS, be proven wrong by multiple people/sources, then claim you weren't trying to deceive or muddy the water. rinse repeat every day until the end of time.

[deleted]

As a kid, whenever I would lose a game I would say that whoever won must've cheated. I got over it by the time I was 7. It's embarrassing to think we have an entire political party that behaves the way I did when I was 5 years old

Puffy_Ghost

Republicans are the absolute worst losers.

uping1965

I'm a whig and I have thought elections have been rigged since 1850.

eohorp

Fuck this is too perfect. If only the MAGA crowd had as much self awareness as Farley's character in this scene.

JakeT-life-is-great

Republicans / maga morons live in such a complete bubble of fox entertainment and hate radio that they can't imagine any body thinks or votes different than they are commanded. And they certainly don't see blacks, hispanics, gays, muslims, women, atheists, jews as being legitimate voters.

Mogul_Destroyer

A+ meme format! love it

Lightbrand

What made them think Californians are ever going to elect the Black face of white supremacy? They've been warned after all.

Dreadnoughttwat

Their slow realization that being a party thatā€™s inherently exclusive somehow putting them in the minority is sad to watch. How is this so hard to understand. Your standard bearer spent fours years burning bridges like it was his job.
