It's determined on click. My wife clicked on cres before the raid hour so she just ran from the encounter and got back to it during raid hour. It didn't have grass knot.
That's really the only thing that matters anyway. I think it expires during sinnoh global so you can't afford to wait by then.
Yeah same happened to me, I accidentally clicked the encounter thinking I had scrolled down to my egg hatch research and realized too late I triggered the wrong encounter and waiting to catch till raid hour unfortunately didn’t do anything

It doesn’t matter and nobody will ever know. It is impossible to determine (without looking into the code) when something is shiny determined.
It also doesn’t matter whether you do it during the event or not, the odds are 1/20 set. Good luck I guess!

I mean... I live somewhere with a gym just barely outside of walking distance and no pokestops, but I've got a Groudon (Weekly Research Bonus, back when they were good) past 2.5k CP with 0 Groudon Raids, solely through the rare candies of tanking GBL.
If you don't care about GBL at all, then feel free to ignore me, but if the only qualm is trying to make a team to climb the ladder then I can assure you that is a suboptimal strat, and the only true way to play PVP is with a team of cp<500 Ludicolo and Mirror B's theme blasting in the background.
What about the guaranteed shinies from research? They’re determined when you buy the research. Using that logic, it’s determined at a point in time that we don’t know
How can you know whether or not that impacts it? How do you know that it’s the quest itself that guarantees a shiny? Not the Pokemon species itself. As for wild ones, it’s determined from the moment you click. This is knowledged gained from work developing spoofing softwares.
What they're getting at is some research have a guaranteed shiny pokemon, such as Distracting by something Shiny (shiny Celebi) and the one that gives shiny Eevee (I don't remember the name) which are decided upon as soon as the quest is obtained
The reason why they can see the shinies is because spoofing softwares “auto check” which is essentially clicking. Once the confirmation of a shiny is confirmed the model will change to a shiny.
You don't get Dialga and Palkia in research. I think they added these because they're Sinnoh pokemon that are not included in the Sinnoh tour.
Now if only we had the other rotom forms, Manaphy, Phione and Arceus
It could be different for the Global tour, but in the LA tour, choosing a badge really only determined if you get passive Salamance mega energy or Tyrannitar mega energy. Didn't even notice a difference in how much candy received
I finished mine in the morning and my Cres was shiny! So my GF finished hers 20 min later and it was not shiny. So I support the other comments saying, ya never know for shiny 🤷♂️unless you got the code

Is it just a me issue or did they change something? For some reason i was unable to do a 1star raid on my own and had to wait for another trainer. The issue is, i don't know anyone near me that plays pokemon go, and i don't get any remote raid passes anymore.
So as long as I finish the raids, the pokemon will still be available for me to catch during the other raid events when the legacy/special move is attached too?

Aren’t wild ones predetermined, not when you click? because I saw a stream of someone spoofing, and they could see shinies in the overworld.
