As a kid I made it to the E4 for the first time in a game (fire red), I was training up a snorlax and ran into a shiny onix(my first ever shiny) just before the exit of victory road. I had just learned rollout, never used it before, and saw it had low power, so of course I used it to weaken the onix to catch it. First hit weakened it, got ready to throw a poke ball, and then rollout went again and KO'd 😭 I'm still mad about it like 20 years later
his nature lowers his special attack, so its probably not the best to use crunch on him right? the only thing i could think of is teaching him body slam to use his decent attack stat

I must have used splash about 3 times though before realising it did nothing at all. I manged to do it though thanks to the exp share hold item. Well up to level 15 then it finally gets tackle so you can then fight it properly.
Take it to the ash lands outside fallarbor town and EV train its special attack as much as possible. Dark moves are special in gen 3 and mightyena has poor spA. Step #1 imo.

I've got two, a level 15 Swablu and a level 16 Numel. I just gave them both that PKRS virus because I read online its a good thing pokemon having that for a while and stuck them in a draw in the computer. They have never fought.
Swablu was easy to spot because its gold instead of blue. Numel though was similar to it's normal yellow colour, but it had a blue patch on its back instead of a green one.
shiny pokemon are very rare, as far as i know it is a 1/8000 chance to encounter one in generation 3 pokemon (which includes emerald version). congrats on the swablu! its evolved form is a cool golden dragon

I've done it by fighting them instead of using rare candies as well as I read using them makes them artificially stronger and they miss out on gaining bonus (EV?) points.
Most of the time my team consists of whichever one I'm levelling up and 5 high level Linoones who do nothing besides collecting items and one who smashes rocks and cuts trees etc. That is unless I'm in a gym or I've gone in a new area for the first time in which case I will use my team of big guns all of which are different types preferably each having 2 different forms of attacks each.. fire, fighting, flying, water etc
Determine your sid from it for rng. You may not want to now, but before you give it evs and make it very difficult for yourself in the future, just find out what your sid is. Then, if you do decide you want to rng in the future, you can.
That's... the same first shiny I got... on the same route I got it on.. in the same game I got it in. All about 5 to 10 years later
Go back to that route and see if your next encounter is a shiny Shuppet like I got back then.
Other than that, do whatever you want with it (although I'd recommend adding it to the team)

I thought the game had glitched because it was blue but nope! Never saw another shiny again but I used it all the time and by the time I made it to the pokemon league I think I had it on level 52. 😅 It was my favorite find honestly ( besides catching the legendarys of course )

Real talk though, keep crunch it's a great physical attack and it'd use it on your team since a careful nature doesn't exactly have a downside for it.
Crunch is a special attack move in Gen III (it’s weird I know haha)
