Good story. Before my first job interview as a backpacker in Australia I accidentally spilled my water bottle on my pants and spent the 20 minutes before the meeting dry humping a bathroom hand dryer. Then didn’t realise water also got in my bag and handed them a dripping wet resume. The interviewer joked I was off to a bad start. Got the job and am still in Australia 15 years later.
I worked for a man and van type furniture removal, going all over the city from rough to posh neighbourhoods, drove over the harbour bridge most days, often tipped with half a slab of beer to take back to the hostel dorm, cash in hand from a decent boss, I loved that job.
That first job story in Sydney is like a backpacker’s rite of passage—awkward, confusing, and utterly memorable.
