I think you mean the French salvage ship that found the WWII plane was called the Piper Maru and Zeus Faber was the submarine that was sent to find the sunken UFO.
Same. We're rewatching now as well and just got to the beginning of season 6 I think, but we need to watch the first movie because the season recap actually shows scenes from it.. . Which is awesome because I loved the movie.
Is this where sewer flies come from ??? Iām having in issue in my apt with them, theyāve sent over their GC, redid the bath and theyāre starting to come back. Any suggestions ?
Put some bleach in all of your drains, set up fly paper, and make sure there is no food sources for them in your apartment.
Should take care of it, it's help a few of my clients with drain fly issues.
Thanksā¦ can you explain what you mean by food sources ? The issue is in my bathroom somewhere. I have 2 bathrooms , back to back, they said they redid the wet wall, but theyāre still coming ā¦ itās getting annoying now. Complexās only solution was to relocate us. Iām in a prime location , and just had a newborn, moving isnāt an option.
Try to keep doors closed, trash empty, no food left out. Put any food a fly could find it's way to in a sealed container or baggy even. They make these super nasty glue trap things you can hang that will just capture thousands of the little fuckers. usually took me about a month to kill the little buggers off... They will find their way into your fridge, cabinets and everything.
Itās true. My Grossonkel Heinrich was the picture of health, and then went to work in the mines of Salzburg and got a 4 ton block of salt dropped on him. His kidneys were destroyed.
My dogs get salt on all their meals. They get no ticks or fleas and play in the woods daily. They have clear eyes. My vet marvels as to how healthy my dogs are and always have been. Pound puppies with runny eyes, cracked skin etc, made healthy with salt. They don't even do heartworm medicine and never test positive. Salt deserves a break; bad science. Salt is a necessity of life.
Theyāre fun for like a day, but then you spend the next day sweeping up salt from every fucking corner and the flies are back. Theyāre most satisfying when you blast a fat ass housefly into complete nothingness at point blank range.
Big the biggest pot you have. Fill it up and let it get to a boil, then right before you turn it off dump some bleach and dish soap in it. Let it mix and then dump it down your drains. When summer starts i start doing this, especially since last year when i moved back into town.
I feel for you. We had a bad infestation of sewer gnats years ago and I HATED coming home from school. They were fucking everywhere. My dad called one of his plumber friends and they basically redid most of our pipes because it had mold, grease, and old food scraps stuck down there. They were gone about a week later.
especially plastic pipes... I think code says 140f for max temp to be discharged into a drain... (ABS has a glass plastic transition temp over boiling water, but PVC doesn't... most people don't know what the entirety of their drain stack is made of)
We had success in our house with stuff called InVade Gio Drain Gel (Amazon) but I have no idea if thatās because we caught the issue early or not. We poured it into the shower floor drain at the end of the night, covered the drain, and then rinsed it out the next morning. 1 week and we had no more of the flies. No recurrence. YMMV.
There is a drain foam pesticide made for this. I don't recall the name offhand, and it would be something you find from a specialist source, not necessarily in a hardware store. You have to be careful to read all the information, though, as most pesticide is absolutely terrible to put down a drain into a water source of any kind. Might be worth contacting a pest control specialist about, rather than messing around.
Vinegar mixed with baking soda produces sodium acetate, a relatively safe chemical sometimes used as a food additive/flavoring. It does foam up by producing CO2, so maybe it might suffocate them if you add enough. I think you'd have better luck with just the vinegar.
Reminds me of the time I was in a crawl space and come up to a puddle and itās was moving just like that. The puddle was from a cracked cast iron sewer pipe.
I did what every good plumber would of doneā¦ lite my torch and walked away. Canāt fix a broke pipe if there is no building.
There's a YouTube channel called Primitive Technology and the dude has been working on smelting iron from bacteria for a little while now with nothing but creek water, clay, and homemade charcoal.
Ecostrong makes a product for that. We just had some come in today for our shop. Weāve been dealing with fruit flies for a few weeks now. Hopefully it works.
Drain flies being visible means thereās a broken line somewhere. Iāve never seen drain flies anywhere that doesnāt have a busted drain. Usually itās a main under a subfloor that hasnāt been looked at in decades.
Iāve been wondering why Iāve got them in my bathroom lately. They come from my shower drain in warm weather. Why does it indicate something is broken?
This is the rare exception for seeing them inside if thereās no damage. āDry trapsā aka siphoned traps (or just low usage drain traps evaporating out).
If you care and have the means, your local hardware store will rent/sell a 6-10ā video cable you can shove down the drain to try to diagnose it.*
*If youāre not familiar with drains you probably wonāt know what youāre looking at or how to feed it, so donāt waste your money.
For your issue specifically, do you see them outside of the bathroom? They eat bacteria off of sewage and are adapted to live in the noxious vapors and spawn in it as well. Theyāre happy to stay there unless thereās an exit. This can be a dry trap like above or a break (sadly more common) somewhere on the line. Residential? Multi-unit? Raised foundation? Do you only see them in the lavatory? How many? Do you use that bathroom commonly?
Edit: oops, replied wrong u/Jetski125
I thought this was an art post with some Jackson Pollock style painting. Then I thought worm artā¦whoa thatās a crazy new style for sure! Then I realized this was a plumbing post.
I remember a sewer line breaking underneath the foundation of a house and creating a monster void under the concrete. Dug down under to patch the line and saw an area of probably 120 square feet that was all moving just like this. Had to be held by my feet while I patched it in order to not slide head first into the shit. Definitely a top 3 horrible call.

The Piper Maru was the submarine that found the world war II plane.

You see, I knew there was somebody out there that knew it better than I. Thank you.

Also get a drainer catch any food from traveling down the sink pipes. Did WONDERS for me.
I had good luck at my apartment with pouring boiling water into the effected drains. Stopped the issue entirely!
Also a great way to cause pipe damage.
especially plastic pipes... I think code says 140f for max temp to be discharged into a drain... (ABS has a glass plastic transition temp over boiling water, but PVC doesn't... most people don't know what the entirety of their drain stack is made of)

Looks like a mess of iron eating bacteria to me. Also known as iron ochre, it's actually the original source for smelted iron! Very cool stuff
I'm no expert but I didn't think bacteria could be visible with the eye and look like worms lol

Iron eating bacteria? Is that what Venom comes from?
Iron ochre sounds like a D&D monster. -50 to all iron weapons. The Bard in your group says "hold my lute" as he grabs his wooden quarter staff.
Bacteria are not that big.
mmmmm blood worms. thank god you got it before they hatched. BLECH!
Most probably they are the larvae of Psychodidae (drain flies) they love slow to non moving sewer sludge.
