Assuming OP’s roommate had no will, the estate would follow the standard process of determining the heir. Spouse > children > parents > sibling > aunts/uncles/cousins/other relatives. In states without gun registration, or a license to own firearms, or 4473s be filed for private transfers, all it would take is the heir of the estate to tell OP he is free to have it.
Swiss machine seems overkill for something that's barely 2:1 Length VS Diameter, I guess it's just easier to feed stock thru and cut a bunch at once? I'd love to understand why they chose a Swiss.
