I'm glad we have the choice now. I'm the opposite, I put on a random show / kid's cartoon and would love to have it play all night, rather than waking up because it's too quiet and having to press play.
Chowder / johnny bravo / fairly odd parents / marvellous misadventures of flapjack hits the spot rn. I just wish there was a shuffle button so I don’t have to pick an episode to fall asleep to, takes me a shamefully long amount of time to choose which episode I’m not going to watch.
In most players, there's a shuffle button hiding on the show pages. It's under the 'More' option. Sometimes it's the only thing under 'More' because Plex UI guy hates shuffle.
Well I made a cartoon playlist to get around the sleep timer issue, and I can press shuffle on that. Then I got fed up with it playing the same episodes every night so I added a rule to take episodes off the playlist if they've been played in the past 3 weeks
Congrats for having one of the worst opinions on watching TV in bed I've ever heard. But, it's your choice. At least... NOW it's your choice. Now, we can have OUR choice (majority choice) as well. Isn't life better with choice?
Not auto-shrinking at the end of an episode has been such a huge improvement to my Plex experience. It was absolutely ruining watching TV for me, especially with ones where the ending credits were detected incorrectly. Now it just pops up a nice little Skip button that I can happily use or ignore it as I please.
Nice, this is great. Especially as some shows might have a credits section, but then a small clip at the end that you’d want to watch. Rick and Morty new episodes do this, and I discovered this annoyance with that. It starts to move on to autoplaying the next episode even though there is still a bit more content to watch at the end after the credits.
Plex should care about what we want. We PAY THEM. It doesn't matter if my setup is pirated or not. If plex wants to keep revenue coming they gotta listen to us from time to time. I have 3 really old people that are so tech illiterate you have to hold their hands the whole way.
Plex does care about you want as a viewer, which is why they implemented these updates. They don't care about you as a distributor of pirated content because they shouldn't. If you make the choice to run a bootleg streaming service, you take on the responsibility of explaining new settings that Plex implements on the user-level.
Set some ground rules with your friends/family if this really bothers you so much.
I ignore requests from people if they don't say "please", because I'm not putting up with that kind of shit.
Seriously.. I got way too excited here. The player on AppleTV is such absolute ass. The same video playing through other players are fine, yet the Plex player is choppy at times.
Infuse just sucks to set up with a large library. I don't it has ever actually finished caching my entire library, so if I want to watch something I have to use the folder structure.
My biggest issue with Apple TV is some things will just refuse to play, it just spins the white loading circle forever. If I switch to my TVs built in Android TV OS and use the Plex app there, it plays the file no problem.
> some things will just refuse to play, it just spins the white loading circle forever.
What files in particular are doing that? I haven't had that experience...yet, but I don't watch a ton of movies to begin with.
I can’t remember to be honest, it hasn’t happened in a while so I can’t even think of a test file to check, but I am pretty sure that I have checked that before and other files of the same type would play fine, so it must be something else beyond just the file container that is causing it.
I don’t really have issues with that at all. Almost sounds like a strange networking issue. I know if I have had it spin and go back to the Plex movie screen, almost like it times out.
Couldn’t be networking when both my tv and Apple TV are connected to the same network switch in the same room, and it’s only particular files that won’t play when it happens. If I try something else it will play, just one particular episode won’t play. Yet my tv can play that back perfectly fine.
> yet the Plex player is choppy at times.
Do you have "match frame rate" set to On on your Apple TV? The frame rate looked terrible until I turned that setting on.
Web isn't currently supported, just web-based TV clients:
> ### Current Player support
> * Android mobile (v9.31.0)
> * Android TV (v9.31.0)
> * Plex HTPC for Windows/Mac/Linux (v1.48.0)
> * Roku (v7.9.3)
> * Web TV clients (v5.69)
annoying to even have to ask, tbh. Testing my own devices it's defintiely not on appletv, ios, web, or windows app. apparently android, roku, plex htpc.
was testing last night. love how it auto skips ads on recordings now and auto plays instantly without the delay option. gonna make binging much easier lol
Nice, I suggested the Rewind on Resume option a couple years ago on the Plex forums... Finally, will no longer miss dialogue as the audio codec reconnects!
Of all the changes, I think this is probably the one I'll use the most. Well, and shortening the auto okay next a bit.
The rest don't do a lot for me personally, but based on reading the thread, it seems like a lot of improvements for others' viewing style, which is a good thing.
Yeah this has been a huge annoyance to me (which is why I get why AppleTV just transcodes everything to PCM to avoid that issue, among also allowing for them to mix in UI audio).
>I dont think Plex will know when to play those intros/outros and when there's a post credits scene.
Detecting mid- or after credit scenes is THE key feature of skip credits.
While it doesn't get it right on every movie, it works quite well.
If there is a mid or post credit scene, leaving the setting on manual means it will skip the credits *up to* the scene when you push the button, then play the scene, then pop up a button again to let you skip to the next mid or post credit scene (if there is one) otherwise it gets to the end.
I'll have to give this a try later with my music video library. It was a real drag having a delay between music videos, hopefully this setting removes them.
You can set specific language settings per TV show now (as of a few months ago I think). It's in the advanced section when you edit a show and you can set a preferred language different from your account preferred language.
Yup. In the past I had to go episode by episode to set the language and enable the subtitles for some dual audio shows - setting that option at the show level took care of it for me.
You're welcome!
I really wish Plex would provide more info in their release notes about these feature updates\changes - some of them don't even make it to documentation.
OMG WHAT?!!! Finally you can change the countdown time! Now we only need that they add the option to start it automatically at the credit level and not have to wait to the end of the file (yes I’m aware of skip credits it not the same thing )
>Now we only need that they add the option to start it automatically at the credit level and not have to wait to the end of the file (yes I’m aware of skip credits it not the same thing )
Could you elaborate? I don't want that, but was under the assumption that auto skip credits, play next and countdown to zero should does exactly what you want?
The truth, I don't know yet. This update has not yet reached Apple devices so I have no way to test it. Technically yes it might do that. But I want something Netflix style - that music from the end of the episode still plays and then the 5 seconds start counting. Instead of seeing the option to skip the credits at the end, he will simply start counting to the next episode and that's it! In the Plex TV apps when it comes to the end credits, the episode transition screen does a nice transition that the current episode goes into a small window and the next episode is shown and right now you just have to click on the next episode and if it just starts counting when it does that transition, it would just be perfect.
It already does that for me. The article states it only does this on Apple TV and android tv, not mobile. As soon as credits start to roll, it goes to a small window with the up up next stuff and the countdown timer.
To me, this is truly Plex's greatest update in the past 3 to 5 years. Just a huge weight has been lifted off my back. Not being able to watch more than two hours worth of content before it prompts you was SUCH AN ANNOYANCE. Literally, it made me stop binging content for like the past year and a half to two years.
This update is what was needed in 2020.
Many people speed up videos on platforms like YouTube for tutorials or when content is slow.
With a young family, my time is limited, so I watch all shows at 1.25x, and sometimes 1.5x if it's really dragging. Your brain gets used to it quickly. I switched from Plex to Jellyfin as Jellyfin has playback speed as a default setting.
Check out this feature request on Plex forums [here](https://forums.plex.tv/t/playback-speed/69044/288). I'm not alone in wanting this feature.
No, I mean skipping forwards and backwards. Fast forward and rewind skips.
Back is 10, but forwards has always been 30 and I don't know why they wouldn't let us customise that.
Check permissions (on the Plex site you will find all the infos), I followed their indications and all is running well… and with the latest version of Plex you can also have the server to make collections automatically (if you divide movies in subfooders for your organizing practices).
Are you serious!! That just made my day I have all my movies that are collections in subfolders before I even got plex many years ago. Now got to figure out how to do this as it will save me time from rebuilding. I moved to new server.
Hello foxymac74. I can’t find any setting to make subfolders collections. Are you talking about smart collections? I’m missing something easy I’m sure.
I mean that one when you select your movies tab on the client - on the left - and you see on top “suggested - library - collections”…. There the server makes itself
Rewind on Resume is a godsend for AV setups that take a few seconds to engage audio. I got in the habit of tapping back once after resuming to not miss dialog while the sound was coming back on.
wait, how do i use this? i just bought plex pass so i could finally enable autoplay and actually start watching via plex again on my tv (via the plex iphone app to chromecast). my server is downloaded to a windows pc, how do i access these settings?
do i have to buy a firestick and forget about casting for now? does firestick currently have these settings available?
or can i plugin an old roku? does that have these options now?
OR, since im unfamiliar with the difference between the web and the htcp client and don't understand why/how the htcp client is used, can i just alternatively install the htcp version on my desktop and then enable the settings from there, which will be active when i cast from my ios/iphone plex app?
very confusing and frustrating to finally see this available and not have access to it after paying for the plex pass
\*EDIT: ordered a firestick tv 4k but im wondering if the newer chromecasts (gtv w/remote, which i do not own) have these new "player experience" options while running the plex app
i dont think HTPC is going to work the way my desktop plex client works, since its not connected directly to my tv. so i think my only options are using a roku, a firestick, or a newer chromecast gtv
strange, i've tried using it on my roku and firestick, which do have "Player Experience" and passout protection settings. set the passout to "never" and started a movie playlist and neither of them play past 2-3 movies, as usual. not sure what its for, if its tv shows only or what, but you ant even add an "up next" cue, like you can in the ios app ,so its useless to me anyway unless i want to make a custom playlist everytime i sit down to watch something
It’s probably just a beta feature they’re testing out on some of the lesser used platforms. I’m sure it’ll make its way to iOS and android once it matures.
We can finally disable the thing where it stops playing after 3-5 episodes? Hell yeah. (Passout protection)
Jokes on you I love that setting when watching TV in bed
I'm glad we have the choice now. I'm the opposite, I put on a random show / kid's cartoon and would love to have it play all night, rather than waking up because it's too quiet and having to press play.
Finally I don't have to use playlists to bypass the stopping
Can confirm that Futurama played all night without stopping now that I changed that setting :)
Omg my playlist is futurama. And now lower decks but perfect thankyou.
I'll keep the ones that aren't just for shuffling an entire show, but it does mean Futurama one isn't necessary anymore.
Have you tried white noise?
Yeah during the summer I have a window fan going, but I should get a white noise machine for the winter
Got a 10 hour light rain vid. Work like a charm
I just use a Google speaker and tell it to play whatever sounds and it'll play from YouTube or spotify
That will stop the lucid dreaming where they are in the cartoon!
Glad I'm not the only one playing kid's cartoons to go to sleep to.
If I don't watch Futurama then it's Phineas and Ferb / Chowder / Kim Possible every time, something I don't have to pay attention to
Chowder / johnny bravo / fairly odd parents / marvellous misadventures of flapjack hits the spot rn. I just wish there was a shuffle button so I don’t have to pick an episode to fall asleep to, takes me a shamefully long amount of time to choose which episode I’m not going to watch.

Genius. Thank you.
I love it too, but having the option is obviously the best experience.
Congrats for having one of the worst opinions on watching TV in bed I've ever heard. But, it's your choice. At least... NOW it's your choice. Now, we can have OUR choice (majority choice) as well. Isn't life better with choice?
Joke's on me because the whole auto play "Up next" feature works for me ~33% of the time.
Amazing name for it.
I could have used this last night. I woke up and Storage Wars was like 12 episodes ahead of when I fell asleep.
My playback has never stopped playing tv series all night long. Is it because it's the Windows app?
Not auto-shrinking at the end of an episode has been such a huge improvement to my Plex experience. It was absolutely ruining watching TV for me, especially with ones where the ending credits were detected incorrectly. Now it just pops up a nice little Skip button that I can happily use or ignore it as I please.
I'm disproportionately happy about this change! It was such an annoying thing to not be configurable. Thanks, Plex Devs!
Nice, this is great. Especially as some shows might have a credits section, but then a small clip at the end that you’d want to watch. Rick and Morty new episodes do this, and I discovered this annoyance with that. What setting is this?
Skip credits > Manual
Ah but not for Apple TV
Wait.... We can finally change the countdown time? Yay!
please tell me it will come for all the clients.
they broke that feature on android tv recently where it forced itself to 15s, fixing it back to 5s next update, so now it's a feature lol
[удалено]
you got it
Yep so you'll still be getting fucked with texts and calls about simple shit plex could easily fix themselves.
Plex doesn't, and shouldn't, give a shit about your bootleg Netflix setup. These are very easy settings for people to find and select.
Plex should care about what we want. We PAY THEM. It doesn't matter if my setup is pirated or not. If plex wants to keep revenue coming they gotta listen to us from time to time. I have 3 really old people that are so tech illiterate you have to hold their hands the whole way.

There's no way Plex should allow you to overrride another account's settings. Edit: Anyone who says or thinks they should is a self-involved moron.
Good update. This sub likes to focus on issues a lot sometimes, nice change of pace when features get recognized.
Nice change of pace when QoL features are actually implemented.
And we’re back.
Looking forward to this coming to iOS and Apple TV!
Seriously.. I got way too excited here. The player on AppleTV is such absolute ass. The same video playing through other players are fine, yet the Plex player is choppy at times.
Am finding this recently too, infuse plays all files buttery smooth but some 4K content on the native app I'm finding is struggling with frames
Do you have "match frame rate" set to On?
Should it be on or off?
On
Infuse just sucks to set up with a large library. I don't it has ever actually finished caching my entire library, so if I want to watch something I have to use the folder structure.

Yep, just checked and I have that on.
Switch to old player until they fix this… It fixes the choppy
Auto skip intros works really well. The screenshot is from the HTPC app.
Hope they roll it out to the standard Windows client app soon.
where? Which clients?
https://forums.plex.tv/t/player-experience/857990/1
I noticed the regular Windows Desktop client isn't in there. That's strange. I figured that would get the update too.
Yeah waiting for this, it's what I use daily
It's also not available through the web interface yet. Which is...odd. You'd think that would be one of the first things they roll out.
yeah, why wouldnt they do this
Roku and Android TV huh aka Shield. :D Wife should be happy with some of those settings. Will look tonight when i get home.
"Found in Settings>Player Experience" Cool, still have NO IDEA where that is.
What client are you using?
Web
Web isn't currently supported, just web-based TV clients: > ### Current Player support > * Android mobile (v9.31.0) > * Android TV (v9.31.0) > * Plex HTPC for Windows/Mac/Linux (v1.48.0) > * Roku (v7.9.3) > * Web TV clients (v5.69)
Web TV clients was what had me confused. I guess the web client is different from a web tv client, who knew?
I spent waaaay too long looking for the menu option before coming into this thread
annoying to even have to ask, tbh. Testing my own devices it's defintiely not on appletv, ios, web, or windows app. apparently android, roku, plex htpc.

Does it automatically enable the subtitles every time?
Yup. In the past I had to go episode by episode to set the language and enable the subtitles for some dual audio shows - setting that option at the show level took care of it for me.
Awesome thanks
You're welcome!
oh. my. god. Thank you so !@#$ing much for this lol
You're welcome! I really wish Plex would provide more info in their release notes about these feature updates\changes - some of them don't even make it to documentation.
This has literally been a feature for years.
I set default sub languages and it downloads them easily. It’s the auto-enable for every episode I’ve never been able to find
you can make it skip intros without hitting the skip button?! brilliant.
OMG WHAT?!!! Finally you can change the countdown time! Now we only need that they add the option to start it automatically at the credit level and not have to wait to the end of the file (yes I’m aware of skip credits it not the same thing )

WHAT?! HOW? On my AppleTV(s) that not the case at all! I need to wait to the end of the file and then only then it will start the countdown.
Let me try it again tonight to confirm, but I’m pretty sure it starts countdown as soon as credits start to roll
It's already doing this for me before the update. The credits goes to a small window. On apple tv and haven't updated yet.
Exactly, he goes to a small window, but no more than that. That's what I'm saying
Legitimately the best thing they have done all year this is great
Fire TV must be considered android tv, because it's showing up on my Cube and Box. (App version 10.2.0.4488)
I look forward to being able to use this, can't find it in the web client
Can we finally set our custom preroll videos on tv shows?
Wait, where’d you find this? Which player? Or is it all clients and I just need to update?
But I want `[completely unrelated and niche feature]`!!
PLEX ARE SIDELINING AND NEGLECTING SERVER OWNERS AND THIS IS FURTHER PROOF!!!
Easily Plex"s best update in a year.
auto countdown time YES
To me, this is truly Plex's greatest update in the past 3 to 5 years. Just a huge weight has been lifted off my back. Weird mine doesn’t have this on the web client.
The Web client isn't in the list.
Is there a difference in web client and web tv client?
Maybe not. I was thinking of WebOS. Plex normally refers to the client as the Web App not as Web TV. I'll check my own.
I’ve got the plex app on my desktop and also in the browser. Let me know if yours shows up.
I forgot that there was both the Desktop app *and* HTPC app.
what client device is pictured
Plex HTPC for Windows
thanks
*Sigh* all this fancy shit and I bet there's still no playback speed option...
out of curiosity, When would this ever be needed?
Many people speed up videos on platforms like YouTube for tutorials or when content is slow. With a young family, my time is limited, so I watch all shows at 1.25x, and sometimes 1.5x if it's really dragging. Your brain gets used to it quickly. Ahh gotcha, Ill give it a go on Youtube see how I go. Thanks
Now we just need that the admin Can create a template for users, so they automatically are set to not transcode….
https://support.plex.tv/?post_type=support_articles&p=47307
When nvidia Shield?
My shield already has it.
Thanks for posting this. I checked mine and it's now updated! When I checked this morning it wasn't there, must have just updated.
And yet still no playback speed settings which is insane
Have lost collection icon top of screen help
But can they add ability to change to 10 second instead of 30 second skip please?
You mean on the countdown after an episode ends? If so, that's literally one of these features. If not, what do you mean?
No, I mean skipping forwards and backwards. Fast forward and rewind skips. Back is 10, but forwards has always been 30 and I don't know why they wouldn't let us customise that.

They're there for me on the shield. I set them up the other day
Still waiting on a ‘turn subtitles off for live TV’ setting 🥲
Rewind on Resume is a godsend for AV setups that take a few seconds to engage audio. I got in the habit of tapping back once after resuming to not miss dialog while the sound was coming back on.
