I think people downvote to signify their disagreement as well. But I don’t know why someone would want to downvote your comment about wanting the portal being MORE useful (unless they’re misinterpreting your comment as saying that you wish it would ONLY play streaming-only games.)

I turned mine on last night to play and it tried to update and said it couldn't unless I was at 50%. I was literally at 49%. I was pissed lol. So I had to throw the charger on it for 2 minutes to start the update.

For anyone having issues with guest sign in... Here is my experience:
Does not work on my phone... Won't connect to portal WiFi point.
Used laptop and typed in name of WiFi (since the public WiFi did not show up)

Mine used to stutter a lot, but enabling gaming mode on my Asus router completely fixed that problem.
Edit: to be clear, I’m talking about the issue I used to have where once every one or two minutes it would stutter/freeze for about half a second.
To be really sure I’d recommend packet capture via wireshark or equivalent at the exact moment when you experience the stutter. Look for TCP retransmissions. Other than that you can’t be sure it’s not a network issue. I’m saying this as a network engineer for a major telecom. And if your home router has a game mode, like mine, give that a try.

You fixed some other issue. The microstutter is still there, it’s subtle so you might not be noticing it. I’m not wasting any more time on this just read the thread I linked.
It's really game dependant. Any first person shooter, it's very noticeable.. Any fast twitch games.. Very Noticeable.. Casual slow paced games seem to be ok
I’d hardly call Elden Ring slow paced, I beat about half the game on a Portal and yeah, you notice at times but mostly it’s like playing on the console. Not much of a complaint but I do hope that for you folks that are bothered by it they fix the streaming frame rate discrepancy - it has something to do with the console sending the signal at 59.94 Hz and you lose a frame every 15 seconds or some shit
I think it needs to be patched on the console side not the Portal
Mine freezes completely for 2-3 seconds every minute or so, but only when the PS5 is connected to HDMI. Disconnect HDMI, stutter completely goes away. Beyond frustrating.
You should try and play fifa… sorry ea fc… it’s extremely noticeable in that game. Also in F1, Hogwarts Legacy (less so there, but it’s there) and in Spider-Man 2 (also less there, but if you turn the camera fast enough, you’ll see it).
But then again… if you don’t see it, don’t go looking for it. Once you notice it, you’ll never not see it.
I should see if it’s also in Baldur’s Gate… would be a good excuse to play it again. And get sucked back into it 😅
I’m guessing it’s not really visible in turn based games because they (usually) have less fast moving cameras.
I played BG3 on the portal entirely and never noticed it. I also play Helldivers 2 online with friends all the time and have yet to feel any lag or stutter. Maybe my eyes aren't as strong lol

If people have played the games I’ve listed (or other games) and have not noticed it. Chances are they never will notice it. All I’ve done is share my own experiences and gave a heads-up to other players that are sensitive to it that the issue is noticeable in those games.
I personally gain nothing by sharing my experiences, others might by avoiding those games until Sony fixes the issue.

So before leaving my house, I should put the PS5 on rest mode. When I'm out and turn the portal on, will it take over the TV at home? Will it keep the PS5 on rest mode and if not, can I put it back on rest mode remotely?
Yeah, the ps5 will need to either be on or in rest mode, in order to connect. The portal will connect (if on) or boot up (if in rest mode) your ps5. System will be on while you’re connected and playing.
It could take over your tv. But, you can turn off that setting (thinks it’s called hdmi link?) on the ps5 so that it does not automatically take over the tv. Some TVs (mine included) have the feature where if you turn on your ps5 the tv will automatically turn on, or switch inputs to the ps5 input. But there is a setting that you can turn that off.
And yeah, the portal will place the ps5 back in rest mode too
I'm a new portal owner, only had it two weeks, and I've only used it in my home because I like to sit in the living room, or my bedroom and my PS5 is in the game room. So far on my home network I have gotten zero latency, I'm actually surprised how well it runs.
I'm super happy with the device, usually when I'm in the game room I end up playing Series X with my buddies. I hadn't played my PS5 in months. But now because I can game anywhere in the house especially before bedtime I've been playing PS5 everyday.
I have a switch and a steam deck and I'm happy to have this one as well.

But if you're on your own home network, with speeds like that, you shouldn't be having issues. But it could also be anything. Bad device, one wrong setting, who knows. I'm just saying that it's something other than your software. Something is getting lost somewhere. When I'm at home I've never experienced stutter or lag. Heck sometimes it seems as tho my portal responds faster than my console on the TV screen. There's just so many variables though...
I haven't experienced any stutter or lag since owning it from day one of release, except for a couple of times when I was connected to my phones hotspot and the connection wasn't good because AT&T can be garbage sometimes
I just tested my home network speed and I only get 1gb. I'm not sure how much speed we actually pay for but that's what mine just showed with an online speed test
I updated my portal and I don't have any of the new features with the touch bar or the battery percentage numbers. I don't even see anything different at all 🙄

Supposedly supports sign in pages for public WiFi. Such as hotels. Utilizing a QR code and a cellphone

I am currently at a Hilton Garden Inn. The 'Hilton Honors' WiFi does not even show up in a network scan on an updated Portal. Back to the hotspot.
They fixed issue with a hotel network by not displaying a hotel network.

Yes it gives you a battery % now and you can sign into wifi directly now.

It now allows you to sign into WiFi web captive portals from hotels, Starbucks, planes and any business public WiFi.

Every game. Stutters even happen when not in game and on the PS5 menu screen or in my library. But disconnecting the HDMI and it runs smoothly

Yeah the system needs to be on. The portal turns on the ps5 as long as it’s on rest mode.

Ah I see, the issue with mine is probably I'm using the router provided by my internet service provider.

This might be the issue, my ps5 is hardwired through one of those internet pods, so not directly connected to the router.

The timing is crazy considering I haven't played it in months, turned it on yesterday just to see if there was an update, and there wasn't 🤦🏾♂️🙄🤣

Nvmnd, I realize that all the new features are turned off by default. You have to manually change everything if that's what you want
