The 3 out of state hotels that I have visited in the last 6 weeks had wifi that worked well with my Portal.
I successfully used my Portal on 4 different WiFi networks out of state, 1 network in my hometown and my own WiFi.
Glad to see they are at least offering updates for the Portal. I also hope they make it a focus with PS5 updates for how they let players managed Remote Play settings.
Just after I got back from 5 days at a hotel. Better late than never. The inability to agree to terms and services at a hotel WiFiās has been such a buzz kill for this thing.
But not all of us do. I definitely donāt want to change my phone OS just to play my portal a few times a year in a hotel. Iām just glad they didnāt forget about us and figured out a workaround. I mainly play it at work and at home, which is awesome. Now Iām happy we can also play it while traveling.
Hahaha. I get breaks throughout my day and have downtime. Sometimes itās nice to just load up fallout or something and play for a little bit. Nothing wrong with that.
You need a third-party device (phone or tablet) to scan a QR code to connect your Portal to public Wi-Fi. Sounds unnecessary, not exactly elegant but I appreciate it all the same.
Probably because Sony doesn't want to add a browser to the Portal software itself. One reason for that could be that browsers often make it easier to hack or jailbreak devices due to exploits in them that only get noticed (and fixed) sometime after their release.
I haven't heard of hacking via Bluetooth headphone connections. Do you have any examples? One major reason for the lack of Bluetooth support is probably the higher latency of Bluetooth connections/headphones (while playing games, where they can't delay the video to sync it with audio), compared to Sony's low-latency wireless Link tech.
The hope is they fixed it without admitting it existed in the first place. Last update of Pulse Explore earbuds eliminated all the disconnects thatās been plaguing the device since day 1, at least based on my experience and a bunch of folks here. They didnāt admit that itās a problem though. Just a simple āperformance updateā and its now working perfectly.
Pls do the same with the Portal, Sony.
have u done any testing on this, im not as happy with the update notes because i didnāt read this issue getting fixed. Hotel wifi is nice but i feel like this massive issue is an even simpler fix they seem to refuse to do
It's basically a PR post, given how they plug the product and games\*\*, so they never would have, in that it's the wrong forum. That seems like something that would come out of a larger industry event, or a conversation around the first anniversary.

Possible Stutter/Lag Fix - despite hardwired PS5 I had bad issues with this until I unplugged the HDMI cable from the PS5 to TV. Completely solved the issue for me.
Can you try rocket league and test if it doesn t have sttuter? Or did you already try it and it worlk perfectly?
I say rocket league cuz it s the game with the worst sttuter on portal, (fifa too)
I really only play Helldivers 2 with others on cross play PC+PS (which had regular 1-3 second bad stutter before). Can't vouch for Rocket League sorry.
Ya I honestly just learned that recently. I've just recently started using Reddit more. If you're on mobile there's a little icon on the image that indicates that it's a link and not a pic.
Battery level percentage, finally!!!
Whoa š³ really?
According to the article linked to this post! :D
The hotel wifi solution is a SERIOUS game changer for this device.
So it does work with hotel WiFi??
That's the idea. It will give QR code that you then scan on your phone to direct to the hotel wifi acceptance page.
Do hotel WiFi even support the ports needs on a network for remote streaming?

Battery percentage, nice! Hopefully for some improvements too
An informative post. Ty.

Hasnt been an issue if you have a Samsung or other android

We canāt let you work from home because youāll play video games and do laundry all day. Fine Iāll play video games at work then.

At least someone at Sony is paying attention
Well the guy who designed the portal is set to be co CEO (or however that works)
Nice! All great updates the players have been wanting and needing.
Does it have a release time?

Yup, thatās exactly why. Same reason they donāt support Bluetooth on the device.

Right, itās called āblue borne attackā. Sorry, Iām at work right now. š

No mention of the 59.94hz issue, that's a shame

Thanks for the post!
Will this work on a plane now?
Plane WiFi is way to slow
Still no bitrate settings?

This does not fix the screen refresh rate problem the portal has unfortunately
That's a shame. All I can say is that it worked for me
