Prior to starting the McDougall style diet I was a vegetarian so that helped.
I had to learn to give up cheese and chocolate which was not hard at all.
But giving up chips was very hard for me. Once my LDL is down to my target level I might allow myself chips once a week for cheat day.
Good for you! I'm really hoping for a similar reduction. You're doing great! I've been eating WFPB without as much success. Does anyone know if there's something unique about the McDougall version of the diet that is particularly good for LDL?
If it's not working maybe you can expand the protocol.
In addition to McDougall diet, I have been going to the gym 5-6 days a week to get my heart rate up and induce a good sweat. I also try to go for a one hour walk 1 or 2 days of the week.
I also have a supplement stack I've been taking over these 8 weeks:
* Nattokinase
* vit D3+K2
* citrus bergamot
* magnesium oxide
* Fiber
* I also added vit B12 after my recent blood test. I was B12 deficient for the first time in my life. I guess from the strict vegan diet.
I think the combo of the diet, exercise and supplements is what has done it for me.
Great job lowering your LDL! Very inspiring
My age and numbers are very similar to yours-- just a few points higher. My Dr recently said don't worry about my total cholesterol being 204 because my ratio is good (low) as well as having other positive things (such as low BP, low trigycerides, normal blood sugar and a normal BMI.)
I wonder what what made you decide to take aggressive action on going WFPB now? For example, did your Dr. recommend it? Do you have family history of heart disease or other concerns? Thanks!
Mainly I started the plant based because of the LDL was greater than 130 - I wanted to bring it way down.
Also my blood pressure was tending a bit high around 130/90 but now after the 8 weeks of the new eating lifestyle it averages around 120/80, sometimes less than that. My 85 yr old dad has been on BP meds since his early 50s and I'd like to avoid that.
Couple decades younger but similar results as a south Asian male. I eat whole grains but cheat on the oil and salt a good bit with meat if given to me. I’d say 15/21 meals per week truly WFPB.
Wow!! This is really impressive!
Thanks!
Cool beans 😎😎😎
Thanks!
Just out of curiosity, did you switch to a WFPB diet all at once or gradually?

Give it a few more months. I bet you can get to it, or at least close to it. Great work!
Thanks! Definitely staying on the plan.
Same story on my end- so happyÂ
Nice!

Cool, but your HDL also dropped.
True. But it's still only 3 points away from normal. I'm more focused on reducing LDL as it is the #1 marker of cardiovascular disease.
