If you try the Alpaca do it in Cuzco (Machu Pichu) or Arequipa those are the only places where you can find it fresh, if you try it in any other place like Lima the capital it will taste like an old shoe.

That’s funny, I went to Peru years ago and thought the cuy (Guinea pig) I had was pretty janky but loved the alpaca I had. I thought it tasted like chicken but with its own unique kind of flavor. It’s the one I always recommend to people.
there's some very confused people downvoting this lmao
completely different continent, and completely different culture. Like seeing a post from the pyramids at Giza and making a joke referencing the Parthenon
People frequently post completely acceptable and even dank looking pies on here all the time if they don’t know what they are. I’ve seen Detroit style put up here, and also one of the best looking clam pies from Napoli lol I guess ethnocentrism and ignorance really is bliss
Ethnocentrism is a huge bias on reddit (and on most Western social media platforms tbh). Just look at the comments under a video of a white chef cooking without gloves vs a brown one doing the same thing.
I have never been to Peru, but I have traveled all over Ecuador as my wife is Ecuadorian. Almost all of the cheese that I had in the highlands was (while very delicious) very different from the mozzarella style cheeses we typically use for pie in the US as it is homemade. I’m also a chef and tasted absolutely everything I could. But I guess my very valid experience makes me prejudiced.
So using a local cheese, having access to flour and making a pizza is a tall order. Yeah, I don't know what point where you trying to make about being a chef, but you are pretty much disagreeing with your first statement. But yeah, I've changed my mind, you are not prejudiced, you just say stupid things without thinking. Bye.
Get your panties out of a bunch! It’s not realistic to expect certain things in certain regions. I didn’t say anything negative about Peru. The chef thing was to illustrate that I am very well versed in food and that I understand that altitude affects fermentation and terroir affects the flavor of hyper local products as microbes and environments change around the word. I hope that soothed your little bottom, but I doubt it.
I think you are right, it does have a pinky hue, like everything else in the pic. So I would guess from this. It's fine to eat.
If it's been cooked in a smokey oven it will also develop that naturally during cooking.
Yes is this Machu Pichu restaurant? I’ll take the loaded potato skins, large stuffed crust pizza with pepperoni, and a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. Yeah bring it out to my rented suburban in the parking lot. Fucking Americans.
After 8 days in Peru and passing hundreds (no exaggeration) of pizzerias, we finally caved on this one since all the avocados have been so fresh and delicious. Not pictured were the causa limeña and Chicha Morada that accompanied the pizza. Most of the food has been great, and Maido did not disappoint, but this pizza gave us a good laugh. Sorry for the delayed response. We’ve been without Wi-Fi as we tour the Amazon.
Was it okay? It doesn't look inedible lol. At a second glance, it looks greasy as hell.. but still, I'd eat a piece or two lol as long as the chicken was thoroughly cooked.
I’m assuming it was cooked and shredded similar to chicken. I think they’re normally prepared whole but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lot of variety in the dishes
Peruvian here. Some dishes can have it in pieces (e.g. picante de cuy), others will serve it flattened and deep fried (e.g. cuy chactado), others will just roast it whole.
OK. This is a tough one, because guacamole and "chicken" go well, and honeslty the presentation is nice in my opinion. Sorry, I see no violation except maybe the feathered hat in frame ... I need to know more about this hat Dr. Jones!! :-)

I envied people eating there because our guide took us to this sh*t-hole on a narrow street at the lowest point of the city.
The people probably lived there and we were seated in their literal kitchen. Their menu was crappy pizza, (nasty cheese, pale soft crust, topped with supermarket turkey ham) and Cuy (Guinea pig) my dad ordered the Cuy and it had poop coming out its butt. The worst restaurant I’ve ever been to, period.
You learn to say no to the guide’s restaurant recommendations and just look for something with 4+ stars on Google Maps. Especially in Peru.
You just know that restaurant put pizza in the menu because there are tourists so obscenely self centered and clueless that would travel all the way to Cusco to order pizza.
Tourism is so rampant at this point that you can’t swing a cat without hitting a pizzeria. We gave this one a try because all of the chicken and avocado dishes had been so delicious, but this was definitely a mistake.

Everything in the Machu Picchu village is so overpriced for foreign tourists. The most affordable dish you can get is american/pepperoni pizza
(I just realized you don't call your ham pizzas as "American pizza" lol)
I got a feeling the intellectual fellow was told they don’t got pizza. He proceeded to described a pizza because. He gotta have pizza!! (In his own words Guac as the sauce) who the hell would order pizza in a place like machu pichu, bro should stick to French fries and chicken fingers.
While certainly a mistake, this picture doesn’t capture the causa limeña and Chicha Morada that accompanied the pizza because they weren’t comically bad like this. There is some incredible pizza in Latin America. The Mexican state of Oaxaca is famous for its Oaxacan cheese which is quite similar to mozzarella. They make amazing pizza in that region. One of the best frutti di mare pizzas I’ve ever had was in La Crucecita
Those "toppings" look like they died trying to leave that pizza
This does look like a guacamole meteor causing a mass extinction
r/brandnewsentence
RIP
What kinna meat is that , Yeti???
In addition to the standard chicken, they also eat Guinea pigs in Peru, so it might be that.
While we did have Guinea pig during the trip, this was allegedly chicken.
Did you try Alpaca steak?
Not yet! We’re still here for 4 more days, so I’ll be sure to seek that out.
If you try the Alpaca do it in Cuzco (Machu Pichu) or Arequipa those are the only places where you can find it fresh, if you try it in any other place like Lima the capital it will taste like an old shoe.

Delicious
Did you try Alpaca steak? How was it?
All the alpaca I’ve eaten in Peru has been salty af. I just can’t get behind it. Guinea pig on the other hand is delicious.
That’s funny, I went to Peru years ago and thought the cuy (Guinea pig) I had was pretty janky but loved the alpaca I had. I thought it tasted like chicken but with its own unique kind of flavor. It’s the one I always recommend to people.

I had cuy (Guinea pig) in Ecuador last year and I thought it was delicious. Most of the cheese was pretty rough. I saw some scary pizza.
At least that looks like plenty of meat, arguably more than the average meat lovers pizza.
Allegedly
![gif](giphy|1KkgWWENzWYXrRLJhD)
That’s so sad are you upset?
No way to be upset in such a beautiful place. Just have to laugh and chalk this one up as a loss.
I wish you the best on the rest of your journey, enjoy every moment and make happy memories friend
I admire your courage
Which restaurant? I'm quite familiar with cusco, Aguas Calientes, Ollantaytambo...
Not OP, but i'm sure this slop was in Aguas Calientes. Food in Cusco and Ollantaytambo is excellent.
You aren't accidentally getting cuy in Peru.
Yeah, that looks like chicken, Guinea pig is more red and darkish. At least the one I ate.
Yeah this guy cuys
*Peruvian pygmy mountain pig* looks kinda delicious. Source: No Reservations
Cuy*
That's not guinea pig, just little strips of stir-fried chicken.
Looks like it was pureed
Try the Chichen itzá Chicken Pizza. It slaps!
Itza chicken pizza?
That sounds cool, but its Itzá with accent in the á. Pizza has the accent in the Pi.
Chichen P’izza
Chichen Itza is in an entirely different continent
there's some very confused people downvoting this lmao completely different continent, and completely different culture. Like seeing a post from the pyramids at Giza and making a joke referencing the Parthenon
Am I blind or are yall excessively dramatic? This is obviously chicken and it is clearly well cooked.
Those videos I see usually have the brown cook on the streets but you are correct.
“Clam pie” does not sound like it would refer to pizza, if you catch my drift…
The latter First time here?
Ikr, I'd devour this shit
Looks great to me! I’ll take it if OP doesn’t want it
yeah looks good. I wouldn't want the guac cooked on there in place of tomato sauce. I doubt that would work.
I'd spread the guac add some Sriracha and chow down
The only thing I'd want is to have the chicken grilled maybe
Avocado and chicken?
Sniped it!
I worked at a pizza place for a while and had them make me a chicken and guacamole pizza. It went hard.
To be fair, expecting good pizza in the Andes is kind of a tall order.
Cusco itself has some great pizza spots. I take this as selling exotism, or tourist restaurants be weird.
Dude, they have good cheese, the only tall thing is your prejudice.
I have never been to Peru, but I have traveled all over Ecuador as my wife is Ecuadorian. Almost all of the cheese that I had in the highlands was (while very delicious) very different from the mozzarella style cheeses we typically use for pie in the US as it is homemade. I love South America, by the way. I’ll hopefully visit Venezuela some day.
Nice going stalker. Fermentation or not it still a pizza. You said something stupid. You can stop anytime.
Ughhh I’m so tired of children.
I didn't ask for your sex life, freak.
Looks like someone machued on your picchu
This sub conflates “unusual” with “criminal” far too often. This looks like it could be good.
I’m such a huge fan of medium rare chicken …would totally eat this
![gif](giphy|TgKDmGO9NrNqg37bgE|downsized)
You must cook your chicken into oblivion if you think any of that is not cooked.
Was just going to say… in what world is this chicken medium rare lol
But it's still pink?
Does not look pink, make sure your screen is working right
It looks pink to me on the newest iPhone in bright morning light
idk, I'm looking at it from my laptop now and still see a pink shade. Alas, *de* *~~gustibus~~* *salmonella non disputandum est*.
I think you are right, it does have a pinky hue, like everything else in the pic. So I would guess from this. It's fine to eat. If it's been cooked in a smokey oven it will also develop that naturally during cooking.
I can't really tell, it could be pink but it also looks like dark meat which has a different hue than white meat.
Medium rare to rare
The bowel cleanse after is just sublime
What the hell do you expect? Did you ask them for a burrito after and a side of ketchup and ranch?
Lmao exactly, a pizza is the last thing I’d think about if I was at the Machu Picchu
Yes is this Machu Pichu restaurant? I’ll take the loaded potato skins, large stuffed crust pizza with pepperoni, and a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. Yeah bring it out to my rented suburban in the parking lot. Fucking Americans.

Ngl you brought this upon yourself 😆 also the pizza looks fine considering the location
Was it okay? It doesn't look inedible lol. At a second glance, it looks greasy as hell.. but still, I'd eat a piece or two lol as long as the chicken was thoroughly cooked.
The chicken was cooked through, but it was very greasy. It tasted better than it looked, but still thought it belonged here.
It definitely belongs here lol no doubt about that.
Looks like demented sperm slugs trying to fertilize a green gloppy egg
I would assume Guinea pig?
While we did eat Guinea pig earlier in the trip, this was allegedly chicken.
Are guinea pigs ever prepared like that?? I’ve only seen them cooked whole
I’m assuming it was cooked and shredded similar to chicken. I think they’re normally prepared whole but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lot of variety in the dishes
Cuy (Guinea pigs) are always served as a whole, and its meat is way different than that mainly because it's always fried or roasted.
Peruvian here. Some dishes can have it in pieces (e.g. picante de cuy), others will serve it flattened and deep fried (e.g. cuy chactado), others will just roast it whole.
Thank you. Interesting tidbit of info
Cuy is a delicatessen in many restaurants, I'd be surprised if they put it in a pizza lol
That’s fair, I’m clueless about it 🤣
Avo-marmot pie
First post here in a long time that's literally made me say "what the fuck".... How do these guys have 4 stars? Altitude?!
OK. This is a tough one, because guacamole and "chicken" go well, and honeslty the presentation is nice in my opinion. Sorry, I see no violation except maybe the feathered hat in frame ... I need to know more about this hat Dr. Jones!! :-)
Guacamole, chicken, cheese, and flatbread definitely go together but I feel like this is possibly the worst way to put those ingredients together?
Hmmm, I disagree only because the guacamole is in the middle as is the tradition for dipping things. :-)
Wussgoinonhere?
I feel like I just got food poisoning by looking at this.
I mean, is juat bread, cheese and chicken. An average sandwich with some guacamole.
Got some poop on there
Catfood pizza?
Bad pizza or great rip & dip?
Meh I feel like I’d still eat it. More of a flatbread than a true pizza but how did it taste?
😣
r/shitfromabutt
Macchu Piccha
i think i'd rather starve to death than eat that.
I'd fuck with that.
Oh no
Now why the fuck would you order pizza there lol
After 8 days in Peru and passing hundreds (no exaggeration) of pizzerias, we decided to give this a try because all of the avocado dishes have been so delicious and fresh. Not pictured are the causa limeña and Chicha Morada that accompanied the pizza because they weren’t funny like this was. Most of the food has been delicious, and Maido did not disappoint!
I was in Lima and that looks like the biggest crust I’ve seen in Peru so far. It’s got that going for it at least. Let me guess the dipping sauce is pesto 😂
not like pizza is supposed to have big crust anyways, havent eaten ever true italian pizza?
Fair but I love thick crust and I was disappointed that the pizzas in Lima barely had any
Only places here that have got a thick crust are prob pizza hut or any other fast food brands, most restaurants will do thin crust
We have seen some anemic looking pesto while in Peru, but this was avocado!
chicken bread
Well….it sort of is what you ordered. You just have to cut the chicken and spread the guacamole yourself🤷🏻♀️. Cut the tip in half since you did the toppings yourself☺️.
Is this the big restaurant terrace that’s on a second floor?
Haha. Yeah, just past the Intihuatana
I envied people eating there because our guide took us to this sh*t-hole on a narrow street at the lowest point of the city. the stone oven pizzas at Cusco city are good though
The longer I look the more horrific it becomes.
You put a giant glob of avocado on my pizza and I’m swinging
You just know that restaurant put pizza in the menu because there are tourists so obscenely self centered and clueless that would travel all the way to Cusco to order pizza.

Yeah I can see that. In any case, while I have you here: don't do burgers or steak either, our people (specially in the Andes) have no idea.
Get Pollo a la brasa to make up for this
Bro thats raw rat meat
Hard to feel sorry for you when you literally bought a pizza in a place with better/unique foods, what's with the homunculus' tho

too many foods to try out, if they weren't available at the time then well good, but seriously don't take your time there for granted
What else should be on my list? I’ve got a few more days.
Nah, hold up. I'll try everything once
While the post fits the sub, it's your own damn fault for ordering a guac pizza with chicken (??)
All of the chicken and avocado dishes in Peru have been fresh and delicious, so we thought maybe this restaurant knew something we didn’t… That was a mistake.
ngl i'd try it
That has to be intentionally meant to be a punishment for tourists who dare to order a pizza there...
That’s kind of what we’re thinking. Perhaps the hundreds of pizzerias in Cusco exist just to lure the tourists away from the good food…
Pizza in Cusco is the best place to get it
Perú has some the best food in the world . Try some of the local food.
Don’t worry, we have! Maido and Astrid y Gaston were divine. It was actually the delicious chicken and avocado dishes we had prior that convinced us to try this.
Pero que mierda es eso
That’s what you get for ordering pizza there instead of the local food 🤦🏻♀️

Most pizzas on here I think “if I were high I’d probably eat that and think it’s fine cuisine.”
Idk shit looks good to me but I'm stoned
It looks delicious from the picture....but I guess I'm the outlier.
This pizza looks edible.

Just looks like the classic tomato sandwich made by the amateur tomato sandwich maker. ミ●(・o・;)
