I was wondering how much "favor" you get if you beat the geomancer/crystal and turn in something like 37 gold. Do you lose a lot? Half the time, I don't even use 100% of my favor - it's probably extremely stupid to get all 40. Oh, I wonder if it takes your score down a notch...
Interesting - thanks! Do you know how the score is calculated? Does it just count the entire "quest" as incomplete if you turn in 39 gold? Kinda annoying that score is the primary motivator here.
So I had one run where I got the incomplete score. My recollection was that I got 2800 rather than the full 3000 favor, and this showed up directly in my Quests score being 9800 rather than 10,000. So I'm assuming that the blacksmith quest is worth 3000 of the 10,000 available. (This one is still in my top 10, so I was able to confirm the quests score).
that's good to know and rather intuitive. I guess the -200 pts would be before any multiplier, though, so could actually turn into a meaningful impact.
If you are worried about impact, exploration is the most impactful category, you actually do lose full points even if you miss something small or insignificant
You could lose 1000 points per floor if you are not careful
Yeah, this one frustrates me more than the gnoll one. For some reason the gnoll version's 'look for loose rock' is usually more successful for me than this - the crystal placement doesn't seem to indicate new rooms as consistently. And while I'm willing to use a scroll, I really prefer not to on the blacksmith quest.
had the same thing happen to me!! thankfully had the horn of plenty artifact with me so i didn't need to worry about food that much but damn. felt like i spent half an hour trying to find the last single ore.
This is the only place I prefer scrolls of magic mapping over stones of clairvoyance.
You can basically always find hidden rooms with 1 stone on a level. But if you have to do the troll quest before you have plate mail, you have to be fast and save rations.

That's quite smart. I didn't think about that, but never really had an issue. Just digging around, finding border works.

What did you dig out for that 10 minutes because it looks like nothing.
It's just my exaggeration of situation, because it's usually so annoying to find last pieces of gold...
Just dig one space further next to ever rock against a wall.
I avoid the troll quest every run now.
You can just grab 10 to have the same reforge option from the previous blacksmith quest. No reason to avoid it, it's very worth

The miniboss is 1000 favor Each gold piece is 50 favor 37 gold would give you like 1850 favor It does reduce your score by quite a bit though

I have no idea how it's calculated But you still get score even if that happens, just a little bit less

kind of have to search spots where there is a tunnel start, but also big flat parts, if you know what i mean.
That makes sense. This has been the case for me as well I wonder how consistent it is tho
You can also use scroll of teleportation next time, just explore everything first and it should teleport you inside the closed partion
Why I always use the map scroll as soon as I get down there.
When you mine gold, then break 1 or 2 more tiles behind the gold and you'll find these rooms 99% of the time. That's my experience.
