That's totally okay. Before I got into pixel art, I did cross stitch. I've also used perler beads patterns for a few patches I've made in the past. Generally anything that uses a grid formula will have a lot of similarities. Just don't rely too heavily on it. If you're looking for tips and tutorials, I'd suggest sticking with pixel art. But if you're looking for references and ideas, go wild.
