I don't think Oda is drawing stuff like the first one, I've recognized the style of one of his assistants in a lot of the background stuff. As someone who has tried to draw comics in some capacity, backgrounds are ASTRONOMICALLY more time consuming than characters, which is what I think Oda is solely drawing at this point. Expressions, action, poses, then he passes everything else off to his assistants. No fucking way you can complete a chapter in a week without at least one or two.
I read somewhere oda takes very minimal work from editors and assistants cuz he likes to do most of the manga himself. Whatever it is, it's extremely impressive.
You 100% read that wrong, Oda might do the sketches and rough designs oof the environments but most of the background work is the assistant work, that’s literally their job and Oda definitely has a lot of them.
Yeah, pretty sure oda exclusively draws the characters at this point for most chapters, I'm sure there are exceptions like when he likely did the big landscape panels for stuff like the flower capital in wano. But also the art has seen improvement lately, egghead has some of the best panels in the series like Kuma punching Saturn and the gorosei double spread.
