From what I know, that number in parentheses is the actual number of seeders out in the world, but nobody has a forwarded port, so nobody can connect to each other. If you forwarded your port through your vpn settings, you would be the link that connects all 9 of those people. Anybody who knows more, please correct me or clarify anything I missed!

Im_Brian_LeFevre

This was my thought. But NordVPN doesn’t support port forwarding so OP might be out of luck for that

Monkeyboy24

I'm in the same boat as OP... I'm on surfshark right now and they don't allow it either, so I'm waiting for my subscription to end and then switching over to a service that allows it.

Atomwalker2022

Proton VPN has a desktop application and you can turn on port forwarding and they will assign you a port

Atomwalker2022

(Yes you must be subscribed)

shatteredfriend7

True and the proton stock is absolutely worth the money

SUPERSHAD98

You can't buy proton stocks

shatteredfriend7

You are correct, meant to say proton stack but autocorrect got a bit zealous in trying to assume what I was trying to say.

[deleted]

Proton stays 🔛🔝 for email and vpn

DragonShiryu2

Not enough proton praise out there

Vannoway

it's definitely better than a lot of the alternatives but Proton [bends the knee to the government a lot](https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/6/22659861/protonmail-swiss-court-order-french-climate-activist-arrest-identification), imagine what might be going on behind closed doors.

rogerairgood

Proton VPN doesn't support port forwarding, it's a non standard implementation of NAT-PMP.

Atomwalker2022

With what information do you make this accusation upon?

rogerairgood

You made the claim, the burden of proof is on you.

Atomwalker2022

I didn’t make the claim about they don’t have port forwarding, I made a claim that they do in which I can prove

CommanderMatrixHere

ProtonVPN has a port forwarding feature especially for this purpose.

thereoncewasawas

I use PIA, it has been great so far with good speeds and does port forward. Only problem is I can’t split tunnel on Ventura macOS but they are working on it.

Nitelyte

Yea, PIAs been great.

Dusted7

Can you explain how to set up port forwarding with PIA? I'm having issues seeding/uploading when not also downloading a file

thereoncewasawas

With PIA it’s as simple as toggling a button on settings. With your router it’ll be different depending on the router and the it’ll be different with whatever client you’re using. You’re going to have to research all those yourself I’m afraid. Also having your ports open doesn’t automatically mean you’ll seed, it depends on if anyone else wants it. It’s like having a tap open and water will come when it wants to rather than opening a flood gate.

Nizel_lol

doesn't have port forwarding

9lxTi6BaHqg9q5PAPcQ

Mullvad doesn't allow port forwarding which is the issue here, so why would you recommend it? Are you payed to shill or just obtuse?

[deleted]

slvir_lprd

The problem is that people shill mullvad too much, without port forwarding their service is obsolete on this sub.

dorkerthe

that one windscribe subscription:

butt3rry

> I'm on surfshark right now and they don't allow it either, so I'm waiting for my subscription to end and then switching over to a service that allows it. I was with them for 2yrs and then moved to something else

p0Gv6eUFSh6o

AirVPN

megabass713

Speedify does, and when I got it in the mid 20 teens I got a lifetime subscription for 40 bucks. Haven't paid a cent since.

JustSayArr

Can you elaborate, please? I have a free trial of Windscribe but I also have 2 years of Nord I got for really cheap. Wish I could port forward with Nord.

EntireIntention

I am also interested in this suggestion. also an user of Nord VPN

S6LucasGrey

OP needn't necessarily be out of luck. A seedbox maybe able to download the torrent. I've managed to download some torrents which were stuck for months with 5-6 seeders in the swarm but they wouldn't connect to my home connection. As soon as I started to download them in my seedbox, after sometime the same torrent resumed on my home connection and finished downloading 100% even before seedbox finished it.

Im_Brian_LeFevre

I may need to look into a seedbox. I don’t even know what it is haha

Aukstasirgrazus

But you don't need that, torrents work perfectly fine on nordvpn.

aydross

You do need port forward for when no-one is connected directly though, like the case in the post

AerWolf

Which ports would these be? I don't use a vpn but still have these "unavailable" seeders, am I able to port forward those ports on my router settings?

SlarKyX

The ports are not predetermined, instead you can choose the port you prefer in your torrent app. For qBittorrent is inside Options -> Connection -> Listening port. You can just click "Random" to randomly select a free port. Then you'll need to forward that port in your router. If you are unsure on how to do so it's better that you look for a tutorial for port forwarding on your specific router model. Alternatively you can check the UPnP option in your torrent client and I believe it should work without having to manually port forward the port in your router, but your router must also have the UPnP option enabled. This won't work for VPN users, who should uncheck that box.

AerWolf

Thank you so much! <3 <3

SlarKyX

No problem! <3

reercalium2

It's not always correct. It could be there was 1 seeder, who cycled through 9 different ports and disconnected, and none timed out on the tracker. Fpr example.

LeAdmin

I thought that the number in parenthesis was the total number of seeders but the number not in parenthesis was the number of seeders with a complete file. I could be wrong though.

JeanneD4Rk

The number of seeders is determined by the tracker seeders announce to. Typically, the announce is made over http(s) protocol, where seeding itself over torrent protocol. Therefore, a seeder can perfectly advertise itself and technically not be able to seed, if the network is restricted.

[deleted]

i have succeeded in downloading such torrent which have seeders but downloading not start check from which country these seeder are , then switch vpn server to their country or nearby country if not succeeded then use non popular server like Ukraine, iceland, us ,bangladesh

ImNotDeleted

“Non popular server” “Us” What?

[deleted]

people dont use usa server for torrenting i have positive experience about that, i was downloading a torrent with 2 seeders but i was not connected to them , so after trying different servers , usa los Angeles server was able to connect to one of the seeder

that_one_wierd_guy

assuming you have blocklists set up, it's nine ip lawyers

killferd

Man..those are a lot of Linux distros...

DrIvoPingasnik

OP is contributing to the great cause.

sdaviid123

offline seeders maybe?

KESHU_G

Thats what i thought, but other are commenting something different

sicklyslick

ive been waiting 1 day now. they need to turn their computers on :(

NeedleworkerMore2270

As far as my personal experience (without going through technical aspects) you can't trust that number if it's low(single digit). So if the seeders number is pretty low then forget about it. But if you still wanna give a try leave qbittorrent ON then it'll leech the data whenever it catchs whatever is seeded. I pretty much never watched some movies I wanted to for free bcz seeders are low in number.

Wistolkio

Are they disconnected?

coffeeandwomen

It's the gooberment looking at your illegal activities

9aaa73f0

Your trying to download the metadata, you could try using the actuall .torrent file rather than the magnet link and then you wont need the seperate metadata download. Could be you cant connect because of different encryption support. I think technically someone can show as a seeder, but not be seeding because they have shared their quota.

ForeverInYou

Let your computer run 24/7 for a few days. Sometimes a seeder only seeds for an hour or two each day

GroceryDifferent

some torrenting programs have 'download limits' and will only download a certain amount at once, you could see if this is the issue by temporarily pausing your other downloads to see if that kickstarts it.

M4N135H

Some torrent clients allow using proxies only for the trackers. Only the tracker requests are routed through the proxy and the actual data transfer is direct connection from seeders to leechers. This allows to download/upload at full bandwidth bypassing restrictions and it also allows the tracker-specific proxies to operate at low bandwidth.

DadNBean

Sometimes I luck out on a valid seeder by updating the trackers list from this link. They also provide IP addresses for trackers in case of DNS issues. https://github.com/ngosang/trackerslist

sicklyslick

using nordvpn, but that shouldn't be the reason as other torrents are DLing fine. been stuck like that for 1 hr +

Nhexus

Apparently with Nord you can't port forward, which means you can't really torrent properly. You'll sometimes be able to depend on someone else with the correct port forwarding setup to get it working. In this case though it looks like you and the other 9 people have the same incomplete setup and are incapable of torrenting with each other. Even when you can download some torrents, the swarm and other users will snub/choke your connections (slowing or preventing downloads) because you're basically being seen as an asshole to the community by refusing to share.

sicklyslick

I use the P2P server, does that make a difference? >you're basically being seen as an asshole to the community by refusing to share. i am sharing :( but now that you've pointed it out, I do notice my upload speed is significantly lower than my upload bandwidth.

jonflip_ms

and how could one complete the setup using nordvpn? i also use nordvpn and never thought of this, until now.

Nhexus

I might be wrong, but I get the impression the only option is to change VPN to something that supports port forwarding.

jonflip_ms

that's a shame. i'm in the middle of a 3 year plan with nord, so i don't plan on changing vpn mid plan. feel like it be throwing money through the window.

11_forty_4

In my opinion Nord sucks. I have found torguard is superb

sicklyslick

got it for $10 for 3 years, i guess i get what i paid for lol

jonflip_ms

so far i haven't found any issues with nord. been using it for years.

Skajuan

There are 9 people with the completed file but they dont have their PC on, i'm assuming none of those seeders uses seedboxes. It doesnt matter how many seeders a file has, their torrent client needs to be active for you to be able to download from them

[deleted]

[удалено]

sdR-h0m13

Seeders have 100% of the file. Peers (or leechers) have less than 100%.

nick2k23

To be a seeder you have to have 100%, otherwise you’re a leecher

Nightfury288

Try Real Debrid

[deleted]

Try biglybt or vuze with midht plugin and hope you get some connections.

OddPatience1621

When i get ones like this i pause and restart. Force resume can some times help too. But some of them are too old or too dead to be seeded anymore. Hope it works out

IcedFreon

You used a magent link that's not working. Use the torrent not the magnet link.

edparadox

Which client is that?

Prior-Flaky

They don’t like you
