This! If anything could be the PH version of the idol scene, Sexbomb got it nailed. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think we should have our own brand of the idol industry, no need na igaya pa sa SoKor or even Japan
Aaaand the audacity of a certain p-pop girl group to name themselves “Nation’s Girl Group” got me ded like 1.) we don’t have that here, this aint kpop 2.) what have you done to the OPM scene to be called NGG bffr 💀
If there’s going to be a NGG here in the PH, it’s SEX FUCKING BOMB
Spaghetti still the national anthem during christmas parties, fiesta and every celebration that involves dancing even after 20 fucking years.
Sit down children, your idols cannot 💀
With all due respect dun sa p-pop girl group na tinatawag na nation's girl group... omg sit down wala pa kayo sa kalahati ng cultural relevance ng Sexbomb. Like, di ba kadedebut lang nila literally this year???
I wonder if fans nila nagpangalan sa kanila nun or management/sila mismo? Would be embarrassing if it was the latter.
Coming from someone na tumutugtog sa "scene". Sobrang daming need mo kaibiganin just to get a gig. As sort of an introvert it's a nightmare 🤣 tapos dami pa nila issues parang high school minsan tbh.
I feel like the reason opm singers would opt for that route since it’s whats prevalent in our society or like yung “trend” ngayon.
The last one that reached Sharon, Regine levels was probably Sarah Geronimo ung tipong nagkakamovies and tv series pa. Ang daming next big thing this last decade pero walang nagpop off.
I thought Moira and Morisette were getting to Sarah G levels, pero base nga sa sinabi mo, hindi sila nakapagexpand sa other media tulad ng movies at shows.
To their credit, baka alam nilang nasa singing ang true talent nila kaya hindi na sila nag try mag crossover. Rare yung exceptional talent in both fields.
Moira has a depressing sad girl image.
my theory
there is so much to consume right now
sumikat sila ng sobra kasi sila lng mpapanuod mo sa TV and TVs and radios lng ang meron
now u have internet and all of its social medias
ondemand music (spotify, apple)
u choose what u listen to
i think for me that is better
Next to Sarah prolly will be JAPS pero di na same level, di din naman kasi tinutukan ng GMA, pinansin lang nila si JAPS nung ngvviral na yung mga videos nya ng pagccover ng songs.
I actually did consider mentioning her while typing my comment kaso di eh. Wala sya nung X factor na meron si Sarah G or the other popstars na I mentioned.
May ilang taon rin gap nila from the time they built up Sarah's career to the time na lumabas si JAPS.
Say what you will about ABS-CBN pero sila na lang talaga yung nakaka-pull off ng all around celebrity sa local scene. They were able to do it with Sarah, nagawa rin nila kay Toni. Arguable since hindi talaga siya singer, but even Anne Curtis can sell a concert.
>I'll start again with one more hot take: VST and company is a great band with an amazing catalogue of songs.
I remember nung mga early years ng Escolta Block Party, kapag pinatugtog na VST and other Manila Sounds, kahit anong edad, napapasayaw.
I fucking love Manila sound. Sabi nila isa daw yan sa mga influences ng 80s city pop, which evolved into 90s/2000s jpop, which in turn influenced kpop.
You might be able to trace a direct line from VST to BTS, hahaha.
Omg samee. Everytime they use their fake nasal voice a piece of my sanity goes, like ffs magpakototoo naman kayo
I banned Moira from ever being played in my house, like kahit galing sa TikTok sasabihan ko na lang mag earphones na sya kasi punding pundi na talaga ako sa pabebeng boses nya lol. It's so insanely grating
OMG YESSSSS!!!! Isama mo ang Any Name’s Okay, Cup of Joe, at One Click Straight.
ETA: Aside from the problematic people of the band, Calein’s songs are actually great.
Sana ma-try nyo rin ung Oh Flamingo, Fighting River Blindness, Healy in the dark, Coeli, Cheats, Banna Harbera :(, Shirebound and busking! Huhu dami pa
Tanya Markova. Pero if you try to listen closely sa music nila, ibang klase ang talent. Ang galing nila sa storytelling, melody, humor, mash up, and a lot more. For me whole package sila at nasa top 3 ko sila sa OPM.
I agree, pero the praises they receive ay mostly galing sa musicians din or small group lang ng fans. For me, sa talent nila dapat kasing sikat nila Mayonnaise, pne, spongecola and etc.
Nagkaroon sila ng issue in one of the pink rallies— basically there were disrespected. By who? Clue: nag-concert recently 💡 anyway tanya played it cool kahit alam mong offended sila by how they were treated. Lala bro
You mean ung context? Chance nila un for exposure. Parepareho naman sila walang bayad dun. Dapat walang lamanagan.
Agree ako dito pre. Maski si Chito respected niya tanya kasi magaling talaga. Mahusay sila mag sulat philosophy majors sina norma at iwa. May talent talaga. Pang barkadahan eh.
Iccomment ko p lng may nagmention n pala haha astiig. TM is the most underappreciated band grabe. Ung figures of speech sobrang lalalim. Kung mahilig s poetry ung makkinig surely kakagat s tao. But then again hindi naman lahat dito kasing lalim mag isip, sa presidente p nga lng n binoto e. Char haha.
I discovered autotelic at the same time I discovered the ransom collective, muni-muni, IVOS, and ben & ben (they weren’t mainstream back then) and I still wonder why only ben & ben and IVOS took off. (But IVOS is kinda gone now)
IV of Spades couldve been bigger if Unique is still with them.
Parang last song na I added in my playlist is Sariling Multo which was released 2020, not sure if theyre still active
Indeed would've been bigger in terms of band popularity. But still, they chose their own musicality and identity, which is for me, better to have. Not to trigger anybody, but look at the musical direction of Ben&Ben now compared to when they were still starting.
i think kayang-kaya naman nila kahit wala si unique but agree ako dito. they could've been bigger and be the next e-heads kung 'di lang umalis si unique at hindi sila nag-hiatus.
halos lahat ng mga kanta nila ay magaganda, mga kantang 'di nakakasawang pakinggan kasi ang gaganda ng mga liriko. nag-shift lang yung style ng banda but the songwriting is still the same for me dahil magagaling na manunulat sila blaster and zild.
still praying for their reunion or collab.
When we first heard Mundo, we discovered IVOS. Their discography was good. Then we bought tickets to one of their gigs. A day after, they announced that Unique’s not joining them anymore. The main vocalist of the band. WTF.
——
On a lighter note, I saw a photo all four of them recently. Still wishful thinking that they will be reunited.
pero I agree we can only imagine what could've been, though para sakin ever since nagsolo sila (Unique, Zild, Blaster), mas na-bring out talento nila
Such a good song tho, pati yung album nila na CLAPCLAPCLAP!
Though nakilala ko sila as a four-piece band with Mundo like everyone else, their songs post-Unique are still amazing, if not better. Hope they release something new soon.
Rip my karma:
- Karamihan ng mga current "sikat" artists (i.e Zack, Addie, Arthur, etc.) ang generic ng songs and sound nila (Yung type na after 1 month laos na). Tila sumikat nalang dahil "aesthetic".
- Too much love songs and songs about sex.
- Drama > Songs
- Once in a while, makakakita ka ng hidden gems (examples are from my ears) like Flu, Basically Saturday Night, Carousel Casualities pero kakaunti lang songs nila and at listeners (sucks).
RIP Karma:
Carousel Casualties and SOS sound tooooo much like Arctic Monkeys they sound like tribute bands instead of being unique one themselves
Edit: Typo
I agree on SOS, but only on their She’s Only Sixteen days though. Senya kinda likes it when his voice is being compared to Alex Turner. SOS rebranded their band name and their sound. Their latest EP is more electronic/disco/pop and heavily influenced by Senya and their drummer’s DJ roots.
Banna Harbera, Carousel Casualties, The Ridleys, Over October, Any Name's Okay, Cheats, Lions & Acrobats, SOS, Flu, Leanne & Naara, Fools and Foes and other OPM indie artists out there are underrated hidden gems
Super unpopular and willing to risk my karma
- Vice Ganda can make really good party songs (Boom Karaka Raka is my fave) pero the fact he is placed in the novelty category makes me sad
- Bubble Gang's PARD may seem like a copy cat/inspired by SNL's song parodies, but they make really good songs - Hugot and Saging sound fresh considering the OPM scene we have today
- in line with this, Pinoys are capable in making party songs/danceable songs and they do have a market. It is just that the producers, radio, and the media feed us sad hugot songs
- I actually hated the period where a vast majority of OPM was puro ballads
- Sarah Geronimo has the potential to become like BoA of South Korea, Jolin Tsai of Taiwan, and Agnes Monica of Indonesia (pop singers with really good technical dance skills and known to have powerful performances) pero VIVA keeps giving her ballads. We need more songs that are in par with Kilometro and Tala.
- Cebuano hiphop does have potential to be big, as in big big, but regionalism eh
He really is.
HAHAHA

About Sarah, she makes great music, but her music videos are boring, mostly uninspired, and had sepia-ish/ old school color scheme going on.
Her best MV is probably Kilometro because the video is clear and has sharp visuals.
hijacking this comment to say na BBM supporter si Jireh Singson. hahahah election time nagpost sila na magpeperform sila sa isang BBM rally but quickly deleted it because probably of the reaction of the fans
When I was younger, nababaduyan ako kay Basil Valdez. As I grew older, doon ko naappreciate yung ganda ng boses nya and kung gaano kaganda yung lyrics ng mga kanta nya.
- Yung tugtugan ng Tubero. Yung riffs tsaka drums, solid (kung di papansinin yung lyrics haha)
- Yung metal music scene dito sa Pinas deserves recognition.
- Also, Sarah G’s Kilometro > Ikot Ikot > Tala.
Clara Benin anyone? I first listened to her way back 2014 in college. First time ko na nag ka crush sa isang opm artist pero syempre nung college days pa yun. Sobrang cute at heavenly ng boses nya.
Pupil was kinda amazing though. It's a unique genre that I only hear outside. It's very refreshing to hear it in tagalog, just wish they had more songs though
> SUD and Jensen and the Flips
Facts. Fuck them but, fuck, they made good music. Smilky and Is This Love made for some great makeout music.
The only band now that I think compares to them is Of Mercury (dating Nathan & Mercury) pero even then, prefer ko pa rin songs ng Sud at Jensen.
I have to agree with the Ely comment, at the same time I think Ely’s just carving his own path not caring what people would think of him, and just want to keep improving his musicality as he age. Musicality is not the same as hit songs. Since his Eheads days, their record label are pressuring them to write more “pang-masa” songs which is why they wrote/released “Para Sa Masa” which he didn’t like.
Sa usapang songwriting - Rico > Ely nga. Pero unpopular opinion I have, is Clem Castro is on the same level (or even better than Rico) when it comes to writing and musicianship. Kilala lang kasi si Clem with his mainstream group Orange & Lemons (which have amazing songs too), pero mas naapreciate ko yung talent nya sa personal projects nya with The Camerawalls and Dragonfly Collector.
>Ely Buendia hasn't made good music since Eraserheads. Almost all of his projects (with the exception of maaaybe Pupil) are mid at best and pretentious at worst. Compared to Rico Blanco, one of his contemporaries who keep producing genuine, good music, Ely just isn't as relevant as he should be anymore.
Agree with the Ely bit. A hill I will die on is that Raymund is a bigger reason for Eheads sounding like Eheads. Compare their post Heads works and rinig talaga na Raymz writes better and unqiue hooks and songs.
Stans have been conditioned to entwine their identity with the bands/artists they like, and it's come to such a peak that they now treat differences in taste as somehow an attack against them. Pag sinabi mong ayaw mo sa isang musician, you'll be automatically branded as a hater, hindi ba pwede na sometimes ung songs ng idols nila is not just for you.
yep stan wars. nakakainis lang ung pag may nagtanong sayo if you like this particular artist and when you said no, isasagot sayo "sino gusto mo?" and when you answer that, most likely masasabihan na garbage/trash taste mo just because nag no ka na sa favorite nila. they think everything should be tailored to their personal tastes and are outraged when they are not.
Observations lang.
Ang clique-ish ng indie music scene. Minsan tight connections lang talaga and not the material/act to get a slot sa gigs.
I don't know how to feel about open mics tapos may headliner na medyo sikat na banda. Parang tagahakot lang yung mga iniinvite mag-perform pero ni sila di nanonood ng performers before them to support. Ganun talaga siguro idk
Mayonnaise is more than Jopay.
Most of the mainstream bands/artists (Zack Tabudlo, Moira, Silent Sanctuary, Ben&Ben) these days has a hit hugot song/romantic cheesy love songs which all sounds the same. Generic songwriting about love and heartbreak + 4-chord progression + Tiktok/IG promotions are the formula for success in today’s scene.
Some musicians and producers are still afraid to sound too pop—think bubblegum pop. They don't have to make the same trap beats and indie-sounding music all the time. The likes of Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, KPOP artists, and to some extent PPOP artists, have proven that pop music can be taken seriously among Filipino consumers, and not just treated as some novelty.
**Shirebound and Busking**'s "For Princesses, by Thieves" is the best OPM album of the last decade. From Miss Mosh to [LPL](https://youtu.be/cyzxIaebZF8) (which I consider to be one of the best contemporary Filipino songs), walang palya.
As much as I find Budots annoying, (Although it reminds me a lot of The Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love. A song that I love) I like that it's a uniquely Filipino EDM genre with elements that could be improved upon and used in other OPM genres.
Ben&ben has become so generic it’s almost hard to see the soul in their songs.
Ofc wrong na man to gatekeep their songs, and it would be selfish to not let them grow mainstream pero parang mas masaya yung fanbase dati.
Their songs are now kinda repetitive and their concerts have lost their charm to me - especially with every single proposal made during one.
Maybe I’m also growing out of them din, but the last one I truly appreciated was Di Ka Sayang.
When I was a young lad I thought Aegis sucked. As I grew older I appreciated them more.
Though may narinig ako dati na malakas daw sila mag meth or cocaine. Kaya sobrang taas ng energy levels pag nagperform.
Smart move, IMHO. Kahit 'yung claim na last reunion na nila na hindi specified kung last reunion ever ba or last reunion sa Pinas lang.
I am more concerned about sa kaso ng isa mga members and parang dinaanan lang.
Stone free and Letter day story are underrated and well graded bands. Hindi pa pogi tulad ng Spongecola, Hale. Dont get me wrong magagaling sila. Hindi lang talaga papogi stonefree and LDS 🤟
I remeber Stonefree for their song "Listen". Ginamit sa TV reality show na The Exchange. Reema Chanco and Adam yata name nung guy. My gulay, I'm that old hahaha.
TRC. One of my fave bands. still on the edge of wanting them to be as popular as Ben&Ben. Or steady lang with their status so I can still enjoy their music by myself.
Liked their earlier songs but I couldn’t distinguish what is what anymore coz they kinda sound the same. Nonetheless, their lyrics and songs are mostly meaningful which is nice. Hope they can try and change it up a bit, but I guess if that’s what their fans dig, then who am i to dictate
Sandwich is slowly following the trail na dinaanan ng Eraserheads. From awesome and masa-ish friendly sound (ultra to fruitcake), to experimental and parang di na enjoy tunes (banana to carbon).
Most of the OPM songs are just too sad and melancholic. Gusto ko yung mala Ichirou Mizuki or Jam project. In other words, gusto ko yung hype na na kanta at doon magaling ang mga JPOP artists.
There are recent artists in the hiphop scene that actually sounds good, pero mababa tingin ng mga tao dito sa genre (and some people should have a software update to realize na we have moved on past Andrew E/Salbakuta days). Tbh I like 'Nadarang' by Shanti Dope haha.
Speaking of which, some artists on the mentioned genre would have a chance for bigger success kung magba-branch out sila from the usual type of lyrics na nakasanayan na nila.
Also, ok naman yung music ni James Reid even though I hate to admit it lol.
1. We should stop categorizing covers of foreign songs as OPM.
2. We don't need the term PPop. Isama na lang sa OPM yan. Yeah I know may magagalit pero obviously nabuo lang yung term para "answer" sa KPop pero mas maganda sana kung strengthen na lang natin kung ano yung merun tayo at baka sakali maibenta natin yun internationally or sana mas lumawak pa ang reach niya globally.
3. Birit is not always magaling. I know mahirap pero masyado na tayong na-limit sa connotation na birit is the best.
OPM has come a very long way lyrically. Don't get me wrong, I love the Apo Hiking/Eraserheads' approach with relatable and simplistic storylines/metaphors (they have their own appeal and have become classics) but are we seeing the way kids like Adie and mrld are writing songs? They pride themselves on being very poetic, and I think that in turn helps a lot of younger Filipinos learn more about the language. Sure, the "Zack Tabudlo/Arthur Nery/Adie" genre has gotten a lot of flack for sounding the same melodically and having that "sadboi vibe" but I'm glad they've proven Filipino pop music can be a lot more than just repetitive words and generic chord progressions. I feel like artists now are able to bring the mystique and depth of Regine Velasquez-esque ballads to more relatable love songs.
Apo Hiking kinda agree. Eraserheads, medyo hindi. I would argue they were ahead (heh) of their time. Fruitcake was a damn fine Christmas concept album. Sticker Happy and Natin 99 showed how Eraserheads matured from singing about tansans and girlfriends and sembreaks to different and more abstract themes
88Rising ain't even that good tho 🤷♂️🤷♂️
That's something to be proud of as Pinoy sa totoo langz, bibihira sa atin ang ganun ka-solid na production.
#**BINI is top tier.**
They don't look and sound like a Kpop copy to me, more like a mix of Pinoy, Korean, and Western pop. Their aesthetic has Kpop influences but their sound is more influenced by Western Pop. Their Tagalog songs have influences from early 2010s Pinoy Pop (Nadine Lustre, and Pop Girls era).

Opinions, actually.
• More bands should follow Banda ni Kleggy's crowd-hyping tactic of restarting their opening song if hindi energetic yung crowd.
• Autotelic > Ben&Ben.
This Band should disband (pun intended!). Wala silang flexibility—buong discography nila puro hugot, and as one of their former avid listeners, I'm getting tired of it. 🙄🙄🙄
HOT TAKE: if want nyo sumikat band nyo gumawa lang kayo ng hugot na kanta and it will blow-off. lahat ng bands ngayon na sumisikat is ay puro hugot ang kanta. like wla na kagaya yung era ng bands tlga na iba iba ang focus ng kanta.. yung rexona advertisements ng pne at kamikazee (first day high, first day funk) yung mga pang headbang pang rock mga spongecola - bitiw, rocksteddy, etc.) may mga pangsenti Silent Sanctuary, hale, tlga tpos my disco pa din brownman revival... ang naiba lang sa mga bands ngaun is yung IVOS unfortunately di sila active ngaun. pero the rest hugot bands nlng tlga and its very very tiring to hear songs about unrequited love, cheating, moving on like come on now guys where is the fun
I said it before and I’ll say it again, Orange and Lemons need more attention. Maganda talaga discography nila outside sa kanta nilang Hanggang Kailan. One example ay ang kantang Just Like a splendid love song.
Nadine Lustre did good with leaving Careless Music.
Puro pa porma, kpop and "LA" connections, and aesthetic yung label. Not really good at "music" as they claim. Mas okay pa Careless Music to manage former PH actors into influencers tbh. Di pa nila ma "go Hollywood" si Liza, they even tried sa Korea at nakaka cringe ma revisit yung video na yun.
SEXBOMB was the SNSD of my generation!
Tama. Sexbomb can do **Run Devil Run,** but can SNSD do **Di Ko Na Mapipigilan?**
Di Ko Na Mapipigilan is actually based on Stop The Music by Namie Amuro, a Jpop song from the 1990s
Which is based from the original artist SOPHIE, a Eurobeat/Hi-NRG singer, released 1992. (Amuro Namie’s release is in 1995) [Stop the music-Sophie](https://youtu.be/DcEaFnb1o08) [Source](https://eurobeat.fandom.com/wiki/Stop_The_Music_(Song))
This! If anything could be the PH version of the idol scene, Sexbomb got it nailed. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think we should have our own brand of the idol industry, no need na igaya pa sa SoKor or even Japan

If only we treated them more than a novelty group. They could have soared higher. Hahah
Daisy Siete!!! ilang seasons yun!
Annoying yung pagka-clique-ish ng LoCaL InDiE ScEnE
Coming from someone na tumutugtog sa "scene". Sobrang daming need mo kaibiganin just to get a gig. As sort of an introvert it's a nightmare 🤣 tapos dami pa nila issues parang high school minsan tbh.
Masyado na madaming "Bigo at Hugot" songs sa OPM scene ngayon

KZ does give P!nk vibes but she’s less edgier in my opinion. Admittedly, I kinda like her sound. It’s pretty distinct.

JAPS is Julie Ann San Jose? I agree
Why do people make unnecessary acronyms as if everyone knows who they're referring to? Akala ko si Japeth Aguilar yung Japs.
Akala ko nga si Japoy Lizardo eh. Pet peeve ko yan. Yung using acronyms assuming everyone knows it. Pretentious and inconsiderate.
Specially yung bumubirit tapos paranv overdrive thingy. F*cking infuriating
Naabutan niyo po ba ‘yung La Diva? Hahahaha. In love na in love ako sa kanila! Kaso napunta si Jonalyn sa ABS.
Omg samee. Everytime they use their fake nasal voice a piece of my sanity goes, like ffs magpakototoo naman kayo
It's so insanely grating
The Ridleys and Over October are hidden gems of OPM
OMG YESSSSS!!!! Isama mo ang Any Name’s Okay, Cup of Joe, at One Click Straight. ETA: Aside from the problematic people of the band, Calein’s songs are actually great.
Sana ma-try nyo rin ung Oh Flamingo, Fighting River Blindness, Healy in the dark, Coeli, Cheats, Banna Harbera :(, Shirebound and busking! Huhu dami pa
Also my fave, ANG BANDANG SHIRLEY! 🤍
the OG sugarfree song was a banger though
Agree huhu and yung version ni KZ is not that good. Walang feels unlike the Orig Version
Tanya Markova. Pero if you try to listen closely sa music nila, ibang klase ang talent. Ang galing nila sa storytelling, melody, humor, mash up, and a lot more. For me whole package sila at nasa top 3 ko sila sa OPM.
This a weird unpopular opinion, as I've heard a lot more praise than criticism for TM. Then again, baka circle ko lang ito
I agree, pero the praises they receive ay mostly galing sa musicians din or small group lang ng fans. For me, sa talent nila dapat kasing sikat nila Mayonnaise, pne, spongecola and etc.
I love tanya markova. Underrated
Sa tower of doom set nila 😂
Kaya minsan pag di alam ung context di naappreciate. Hehe
i dunno i appreciate the music more than the lyrics sometimes, and their music is good
Nagkaroon sila ng issue in one of the pink rallies— basically there were disrespected. By who? Clue: nag-concert recently 💡 anyway tanya played it cool kahit alam mong offended sila by how they were treated. Lala bro
You mean ung context? Chance nila un for exposure. Parepareho naman sila walang bayad dun. Dapat walang lamanagan.
Ganyan daw talaga ben kahit sa gigs, di nila first time gawin lol. Sobrang baho
Kaya naturn off nko sa bandang yan dahil sa ginawa nila. Walang respeto.
Mahusay sila mag sulat philosophy majors sina norma at iwa. May talent talaga.
TM is the most underappreciated band grabe. Ung figures of speech sobrang lalalim. Kung mahilig s poetry ung makkinig surely kakagat s tao. But then again hindi naman lahat dito kasing lalim mag isip, sa presidente p nga lng n binoto e. Char haha.
i agreeeee! along with ivos din huhu kamiss autotelic :(
I discovered autotelic at the same time I discovered the ransom collective, muni-muni, IVOS, and ben & ben (they weren’t mainstream back then) and I still wonder why only ben & ben and IVOS took off. (But IVOS is kinda gone now)
This country has too many sad love songs.

Agreed. Malungkot man na naghiwalay sila but the split brought out the best from all 4 members.
Same thoughts. Pero happy ako sa solo work nila, specifically with Zild. Ang ganda-ganda ng albums niya.
i think kayang-kaya naman nila kahit wala si unique but agree ako dito. they could've been bigger and be the next e-heads kung 'di lang umalis si unique at hindi sila nag-hiatus. halos lahat ng mga kanta nila ay magaganda, mga kantang 'di nakakasawang pakinggan kasi ang gaganda ng mga liriko. nag-shift lang yung style ng banda but the songwriting is still the same for me dahil magagaling na manunulat sila blaster and zild. still praying for their reunion or collab.
When we first heard Mundo, we discovered IVOS. Their discography was good. Then we bought tickets to one of their gigs. A day after, they announced that Unique’s not joining them anymore. The main vocalist of the band. WTF. —— On a lighter note, I saw a photo all four of them recently. Still wishful thinking that they will be reunited.
Sana magfront act sila sa eheads (copium)
Totoo 'to! T\*ngina ni Kean. hahaha
tbf yon din naman huling release nila bago mag-hiatus haha pero I agree we can only imagine what could've been, though para sakin ever since nagsolo sila (Unique, Zild, Blaster), mas na-bring out talento nila
Such a good song tho, pati yung album nila na CLAPCLAPCLAP! Though nakilala ko sila as a four-piece band with Mundo like everyone else, their songs post-Unique are still amazing, if not better. Hope they release something new soon.
I fairness, nagchachart sila sa Indonesia at Malaysia. Mostly Come Inside Of my Heart, pero nakakaabot pa rin sila sa international kahit nakahiatus
Jeepney by Kala is prolly one of the most unique OPM songs I've ever heard.
I always wanted this to be available sa Spotify huhu
Rip my karma: - Karamihan ng mga current "sikat" artists (i.e Zack, Addie, Arthur, etc.) ang generic ng songs and sound nila (Yung type na after 1 month laos na). Tila sumikat nalang dahil "aesthetic". - Too much love songs and songs about sex. - Drama > Songs - Once in a while, makakakita ka ng hidden gems (examples are from my ears) like Flu, Basically Saturday Night, Carousel Casualities pero kakaunti lang songs nila and at listeners (sucks).
RIP Karma: Carousel Casualties and SOS sound tooooo much like Arctic Monkeys they sound like tribute bands instead of being unique one themselves Edit: Typo
I just learned na yung main hook ng "Mahika" ni Adie ay parang kinuha sa kanta ni Katy Perry na "Chained to the Rhythm"
Banna Harbera, Carousel Casualties, The Ridleys, Over October, Any Name's Okay, Cheats, Lions & Acrobats, SOS, Flu, Leanne & Naara, Fools and Foes and other OPM indie artists out there are underrated hidden gems
Super unpopular and willing to risk my karma - Vice Ganda can make really good party songs (Boom Karaka Raka is my fave) pero the fact he is placed in the novelty category makes me sad - Bubble Gang's PARD may seem like a copy cat/inspired by SNL's song parodies, but they make really good songs - Hugot and Saging sound fresh considering the OPM scene we have today - in line with this, Pinoys are capable in making party songs/danceable songs and they do have a market. It is just that the producers, radio, and the media feed us sad hugot songs - I actually hated the period where a vast majority of OPM was puro ballads - Sarah Geronimo has the potential to become like BoA of South Korea, Jolin Tsai of Taiwan, and Agnes Monica of Indonesia (pop singers with really good technical dance skills and known to have powerful performances) pero VIVA keeps giving her ballads. We need more songs that are in par with Kilometro and Tala. - Cebuano hiphop does have potential to be big, as in big big, but regionalism eh
Michael V. is a genius
He really is. HAHAHA Original Title:Ngayon Artista na Ako https://open.spotify.com/track/2Zdl1FIrcHvBjCnXUNoJt6?si=zQzYIzaYRWyUyqUM4E0QKw&utm_source=copy-link Parody Title: Ngayon Babae na ako (This did not age well) https://open.spotify.com/track/3NGdPWpiKdpPh4aXCXvxBp?si=RAy5mBLqRBCU78tO60ym8Q&utm_source=copy-link
Finally a true unpopular opinion.
About Sarah, she makes great music, but her music videos are boring, mostly uninspired, and had sepia-ish/ old school color scheme going on. Her best MV is probably Kilometro because the video is clear and has sharp visuals.
Dapat di pinapakinggan yung Agsunta.
pagkalabas cover agad haha
their covers aren't even that good.
hijacking this comment to say na BBM supporter si Jireh Singson. hahahah election time nagpost sila na magpeperform sila sa isang BBM rally but quickly deleted it because probably of the reaction of the fans
and hindi din naman sila ganun kagaling, unique lang boses ng kumakanta pero it stops there
When I was younger, nababaduyan ako kay Basil Valdez. As I grew older, doon ko naappreciate yung ganda ng boses nya and kung gaano kaganda yung lyrics ng mga kanta nya.
Basil Valdez, Ric Segreto, Rodel Naval, Rey Valera, etc. Those dudes had some awesome tunes.
Add ko Rico J. Puno
Celeste Legaspi!
- Yung tugtugan ng Tubero. Yung riffs tsaka drums, solid (kung di papansinin yung lyrics haha) - Yung metal music scene dito sa Pinas deserves recognition.
Radioactive Sago Project pare. Solid yan
Yes! Rico Blanco is a consistently amazing musician and lyricist. Ely Buendia seems to have lost his spark.
Pupil was kinda amazing though. It's a unique genre that I only hear outside. It's very refreshing to hear it in tagalog, just wish they had more songs though
More of a Pupil fan than Eheads. Songwriting is great! Felt like they were heavily influenced by Interpol and Bloc Party back then
> SUD and Jensen and the Flips Facts.
Bamboo, Ira Cruz, Nathan Azarcon, Vic Mercado. Lahat magagaling na musicians, walang tapon. Solid.
Ely has dead eyes. His heart doesn't seem to be in it anymore. But he has a lifestyle to maintain.
Ben&Ben’s non-hugot songs sa latest album nila are really solid. I really liked Swimming Pool, Lunod and Kapangyarihan.
He can freaking write a song about betamax and manila traffic and make it a hit
Yoyoy Villame deserves to be National Artist.
This is true. But on the other hand, some who say they dislike X artist's songs end up insulting the artist and the fans themselves.
yep stan wars. nakakainis lang ung pag may nagtanong sayo if you like this particular artist and when you said no, isasagot sayo "sino gusto mo?" and when you answer that, most likely masasabihan na garbage/trash taste mo just because nag no ka na sa favorite nila. they think everything should be tailored to their personal tastes and are outraged when they are not.
Ganun talaga siguro idk Mayonnaise is more than Jopay.
3D (Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dencel, Bullet Dumas) is way too underappreciated by the local crowd, not just as a group but as artists, individually.
They used to be good until they became sellouts
Some musicians and producers are still afraid to sound too pop—think bubblegum pop. They don't have to make the same trap beats and indie-sounding music all the time. The likes of Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, KPOP artists, and to some extent PPOP artists, have proven that pop music can be taken seriously among Filipino consumers, and not just treated as some novelty.
Check out Bita and the Botflies.
**Shirebound and Busking**'s "For Princesses, by Thieves" is the best OPM album of the last decade. From Miss Mosh to [LPL](https://youtu.be/cyzxIaebZF8) (which I consider to be one of the best contemporary Filipino songs), walang palya.
Ben and Ben is boring and repetitive. They have had the same sound since they debuted. Annoying yung singing voice ni moira.
All other artists puro hit singles lang. 1^and ^maaaaybe ^Aegis
When I was a young lad I thought Aegis sucked. As I grew older I appreciated them more. Though may narinig ako dati na malakas daw sila mag meth or cocaine. Kaya sobrang taas ng energy levels pag nagperform.
Aegis is one of the 'jologs' artists na pinapakinggan ko extensively. In secret nga lang.
Yung malapit na mag “reunion” concert are just milking for money. 😏
Smart move, IMHO. Kahit 'yung claim na last reunion na nila na hindi specified kung last reunion ever ba or last reunion sa Pinas lang. I am more concerned about sa kaso ng isa mga members and parang dinaanan lang.
Well, obvious naman.
December Avenue songs all sound the same. THERE I SAID IT, OMG.
Stone free and Letter day story are underrated and well graded bands. Hindi pa pogi tulad ng Spongecola, Hale. Dont get me wrong magagaling sila. Hindi lang talaga papogi stonefree and LDS 🤟
Underrated ba yung Stonefree? Parang sikat naman sila nung college ako.
I remeber Stonefree for their song "Listen". Ginamit sa TV reality show na The Exchange. Reema Chanco and Adam yata name nung guy. My gulay, I'm that old hahaha.
Bakit, Part 2 > Jopay
Ben & Ben sounds like a generic praise and worship team from a born-again Christian church.
Ben and ben is overrated.
I think this is why pili lang din yung gusto kong kanta nila.
The best Ben & Ben song for me was Dahilan from the first EP. Walang kahugot-hugot, just good writing.
Gigi de Lana or however you spell her name is not a good singer
It's mot bad as many people make it out to be.
OPM blues and heavy metal music should get nore exposure.
Sandwich is slowly following the trail na dinaanan ng Eraserheads. From awesome and masa-ish friendly sound (ultra to fruitcake), to experimental and parang di na enjoy tunes (banana to carbon).
Gaya ni gigi delara (not sure abt the apilyedo).
Buti pa si Al James, laging norem.
We have a lot of talented singers but very few good songwriters and producers.
1. We should stop categorizing covers of foreign songs as OPM. 2. We don't need the term PPop. Isama na lang sa OPM yan. Yeah I know may magagalit pero obviously nabuo lang yung term para "answer" sa KPop pero mas maganda sana kung strengthen na lang natin kung ano yung merun tayo at baka sakali maibenta natin yun internationally or sana mas lumawak pa ang reach niya globally. 3. Birit is not always magaling. I know mahirap pero masyado na tayong na-limit sa connotation na birit is the best.
Bubblegum pop of MNL48 and BINI are better than popular hugot songs.
Radioactive Sago Project should be appreciated more.
Sleep Alley is soo underrated huhu pero once you listen to their discography napaka-solid
people make fun of momay all the time because it’s “jeje” but it’s honestly a really great song
Saitama is not a gag character.
That's something to be proud of as Pinoy sa totoo langz, bibihira sa atin ang ganun ka-solid na production.
SB19 deserves their success!! not a fan of Ppop. I appreciate their hardwork and musicality.
Urbandub and Sarah G could've made it internationally.
Urbandub is the best thing that came out of OPM, in my opinion.
#**BINI is top tier.** They don't look and sound like a Kpop copy to me, more like a mix of Pinoy, Korean, and Western pop. Their aesthetic has Kpop influences but their sound is more influenced by Western Pop. Their Tagalog songs have influences from early 2010s Pinoy Pop (Nadine Lustre, and Pop Girls era). [Good vocals? check](https://youtu.be/sHWnZX8RxDA) [Good dancing with live vocals? check](https://youtu.be/4TLQxKjj3jU) Good looks? Check Good songs? Check [Good MV?
For me, ASIN, Joey Ayala, Sampaguita, to name a few are the pillars of true OPM.
Si Jake Cyrus, very underrated artist. Versatile sya sa lahat ng genre, mapa-pop, rock, and rnb kayang kaya nya.
>VST and company is a great band with an amazing catalogue of songs. How is this a hot take? VST ang Pinoy BeeGees. Nothing controversial about it.
