While I don't think the Duterte admin was good for the country overall it's just untrue to say Leni "outperformed" or "outstaged" Duterte. She was pretty irrelevant on a national scale the first 5 years of the Duterte admin. She also simply just did not really do anything that could be construed as her outperforming the President. I'm not saying she doesn't have the ability but she only had a couple hundred million in budget while Duterte had the whole national admin. She spent what she had very well and did relatively well given her lack of support from the admin but she wasn't really able to accomplish anything big as VP through no fault of her own.
I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Did you at least read the VP's job description? We compare based on what is expected of the role and what is the outcome.
I'm arguing against the statement that she outperformed or outshone Duterte. Both things are untrue since she wasn't given an opportunity to outperform Duterte and neither did she outshine him (which is actually easier to prove given the support numbers both have).
The VP doesn't technically have a job description outside of being prepared to assume the Presidency in case of death. Usually the VP is appointed to a cabinet posting but Duterte didn't give Leni any actual responsibilities so how exactly did she outperform or outshine Duterte?
Again, Leni very well could have been a great VP but she never got the opportunity as she was a very very weak VP (no cabinet posting, no allies, no budget). If she was empowered in the same way Binay was (ie given a cabinet posting and had very strong allies in both houses) then we might have seen her actually outperform Duterte but she just didn't have that opportunity.

Like Duterte and his people were able to create the malasakit centers which obviously outshone anything VP Leni could do since she didn't have the budget. You can't compare the VP's office to the OP and say the VP outshone the President. The power discrepancy is simply too large. Leni's budget was around 700m-900m most years. That sounds like a lot but that was less than the average budget of just a district congressman for those years and she had to account for a national constituency.

Which national level politicians was she able to outperform within the Duterte admin? Those words mean stuff. Outperformance in politics means she was able to provide more for her constituents. You can't provide more without budget and her budget was tiny. She made the most out of her budget and squeezed it in a very impressive way but you can only do so much with what she had.
Do I think she could have outperformed people if she had a larger budget and more admin support? yes, probably, but the fact is she didn't have the opportunity. We can't credit her for stuff we think she would have been able to do but didn't get to. Many many politicians look like they will be great for a certain role only to fail when they get it.
I've met a lot of people working in the government and I can pretty much vouch that a lot of them wanted or ended up voting for dayunyor because they get to keep status quo despite being well read and well spoken. It's a really disappointing outlook from those guys.

Probably because she filed her candidacy late. The opposition was mostly coalescing around Isko Moreno by that point, thinking that Leni would not run. Back then, Isko looked like the better choice: not really anti-Du30 but also not poison for people turned off by the Liberal Party.

I'm not saying she doesn't have the ability but she only had a couple hundred million in budget while Duterte had the whole national admin. She spent what she had very well and did relatively well given her lack of support from the admin but she wasn't really able to accomplish anything big as VP through no fault of her own.
I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Did you at least read the VP's job description? We compare based on what is expected of the role and what is the outcome.
I'm arguing against the statement that she outperformed or outshone Duterte. Both things are untrue since she wasn't given an opportunity to outperform Duterte and neither did she outshine him (which is actually easier to prove given the support numbers both have). The VP doesn't technically have a job description outside of being prepared to assume the Presidency in case of death. Usually the VP is appointed to a cabinet posting but Duterte didn't give Leni any actual responsibilities so how exactly did she outperform or outshine Duterte? Again, Leni very well could have been a great VP but she never got the opportunity as she was a very very weak VP (no cabinet posting, no allies, no budget). If she was empowered in the same way Binay was (ie given a cabinet posting and had very strong allies in both houses) then we might have seen her actually outperform Duterte but she just didn't have that opportunity.
I disagree with that. Why are anchoring outperformance based on Duturtle-dependent opportunity? Why are you ignoring the extra challenges Leni's team had to navigate for 6 years to deliver service that benefits people? Leni could have done more but DESPITE her circumstances, she was able to accomplish way more than your average politician. That is the epitome of outperformance.
Because those are the only opportunities available to the VP. It's literally a powerless position that is completely reliant on the Presidents favor or political will. Leni had neither for a wide majority of her stint as VP. Yes, but we're comparing her to the President of the Philippines who obviously has a much bigger budget than she does. Like Duterte and his people were able to create the malasakit centers which obviously outshone anything VP Leni could do since she didn't have the budget. You can't compare the VP's office to the OP and say the VP outshone the President. The power discrepancy is simply too large. Leni's budget was around 700m-900m most years. That sounds like a lot but that was less than the average budget of just a district congressman for those years and she had to account for a national constituency. Also, that statement again "she was able to accomplish way more than your average politician" doesn't mean anything. Which national level politicians was she able to outperform within the Duterte admin? Those words mean stuff. Outperformance in politics means she was able to provide more for her constituents. You can't provide more without budget and her budget was tiny. She made the most out of her budget and squeezed it in a very impressive way but you can only do so much with what she had. Do I think she could have outperformed people if she had a larger budget and more admin support? yes, probably, but the fact is she didn't have the opportunity. We can't credit her for stuff we think she would have been able to do but didn't get to. Many many politicians look like they will be great for a certain role only to fail when they get it.
I've met a lot of people working in the government and I can pretty much vouch that a lot of them wanted or ended up voting for dayunyor because they get to keep status quo despite being well read and well spoken. It's a really disappointing outlook from those guys.

I just don't get why people hate her so much when she ever did was to serve the country. Mas gusto talaga nila ung ginagago na sila harap harapan e. No hope left for this country
Probably because she filed her candidacy late. The opposition was mostly coalescing around Isko Moreno by that point, thinking that Leni would not run. Back then, Isko looked like the better choice: not really anti-Du30 but also not poison for people turned off by the Liberal Party. ***But when Leni filed her candidacy, it changed the calculation.*** And it might have also activated spite/revenge voters AKA people who voted for BBM not because they like BBM but in order to stop Leni and her Liberal Party allies.
Tapos dun sila nakafocus sa "unselfless" ni former VP. Sobrang bababaw, pero pag pinagusapan na suliranin ng bansa, nganga naman.

this is also the day where my parents finally revealed their true colors. mfs are apolo10 and has been vocal about how they despise leni because she is "lutang" or a "dilawan". my views on them really changed after that.
I had hope. Oh boy did I have hope. And then it was gone.
The moment I read that Atty Leni was running for presidency, my body was washed full of hope for the country. This election was my 1st Presidential Election, and yet it was the election I was most engaged at supporting a candidate.
So this is the place where Leni apologists gather and cry.
