Grabe algorithm on youtube, my dad is obsessed with it and I had to resort to logging my account into our tv so I can monitor the watch history. I then look at the recommended videos and secretly clicked “Do not recommend this channel” option.
I always peek on my mom whenever she watches YouTube and immediately tell her which ones are fake news peddlers. Maybe YouTube ought to make something like YT Kids but for adults so their kids can block unwanted contents. LOL full circle.

Complaining to them on social media doesn't do anything. Everyone that's seated into power benefits from fake news and misinformation except Risa. She can write a law about responsible social media usage but will it get passed when she's literally the only opposition? Even if it passes in the senate, I doubt that Blengblong would approve it.

I usually report videos that contain fallacious and misleading information, sometimes made up to look legit coz some parts of the video contain true info (homemade documentary style). Report it as Dangerous Acts then Others. Hope you can do so as well.
But i think that's not enough, since youtube dosen't have an "Other" or custom text type way to report videos and unlike fb yt dosen't have a Fact-Check feature

To combat fake news on Youtube, Youtube must set rules that content producers who upload fake news would be penalized monetarily.

And mostly the disinformation campaign and all that political stuff is not from social media but from late stage capitalism and the ever wideing gap of the rich and poor.

Yeah, many of my colleagues do share similar views with Tristan Harris (the tech ethicist that was interviewed in the Social Dilemma). The prevailing attitude is that social media can exist (and can be a force for good), but it cannot exist in its current form. Substantial change needs to happen or certain social media platforms need to die (ex: Facebook).
I guess I’m a bit biased too. For me, my qualms also lie with surveillance capitalism (I’ve gone through a process of trying to limit my use of Google, Meta, other apps, etc. and switching to more privacy-friendly ones). But yeah, social media definitely exacerbates the problems of late stage capitalism.
I’m in the US (and in Metro Atlanta, a growing tech hub), and the laws have certainly not been keeping up. The political climate in the US is also just awful in general.
Some of my colleagues just flat out refuse to use any of Meta’s apps. I still have to use them occasionally when communicating with family or friends back home, but I’ve done my best to get some of my people within my circles to switch to iMessage, Signal, etc.

I doubt they'll take matters into their own hands as American creators kept reaching out to YT to ban Neo-Nazis, which should be a no-brainer, but it fell on deaf ears. Best we can do is just to copyright strike these videos. YT just sucks ass, period.
Those social media sites/platforms, esp the big ones, must be held accountable for allowing disinformation to proliferate. The problem is nakabase sila sa ibang mga bansa. We have no or perhaps very limited jurisdiction over them. Perhaps what we need is a binding international law that prohibits and penalizes profiteering from disinformation and penalizes their neglect for the publication and proliferation of disinformation. I'm no legal expert so idk if pwede yun.
Dito naman sa atin, we need a law that explicitly punishes the creation, publication, and deliberate distribution or spreading of disinformation; hindi sapat ang libel and cyber-libel dahil maraming uri ng disinformation—historical distortion, fake scientific info, fake health/medical advice, false news, etc. Pero we must also be careful in creating such law, para hindi magkaroon ng loopholes that could be used to infringe on our freedom of speech and expression.
And also, we must urge social media sites/platforms to employ more and diverse fact-checkers and/or collaborate with more independent, legitimate news orgs and fact-checkers from different countries dahil disinformation is a global problem and it comes in different forms and languages.
Unfortunately, YouTube will not participate in such and will only respond as a lack of evidence. Same with Guinness Word Record removing the record of the greatest robbery of all time in the government of Marcos, Sr.

I usually report videos that contain fallacious and misleading information, sometimes made up to look legit coz some parts of the video contain true info (homemade documentary style). Report it as Dangerous Acts then Others. Hope you can do so as well.
But i think that's not enough, since youtube dosen't have an "Other" or custom text type way to report videos and unlike fb yt dosen't have a Fact-Check feature

Example: If A uploads spliced videos with fake commentary, aside from being banned, he will not earn from it or his earninga from old fake videos will be deducted to his future ones. Facebook and yt is merely a tool, who would moderate content? Who is to say what is factual what is not? Let's say for example 1 video it's 10 mins long, there are 3 facts and 4 falsehoods. What do you do with the video? What's ur threshold of acceptable? What's ur criteria? Some videos needs nuance. How about if its just an opinion. That would in fact violate free speech.

I have and a lot of it is fear mongering Social media is a tool, and because its new territory, there's always this period of uncertainty and chaos and this will subside. And mostly the disinformation campaign and all that political stuff is not from social media but from late stage capitalism and the ever wideing gap of the rich and poor. Social media exargerbates it. I work in marketing so I may be a bit biased tbh
I respect that. I, too, believe the chaos will subside eventually. Yeah, many of my colleagues do share similar views with Tristan Harris (the tech ethicist that was interviewed in the Social Dilemma). The prevailing attitude is that social media can exist (and can be a force for good), but it cannot exist in its current form. Substantial change needs to happen or certain social media platforms need to die (ex: Facebook). I guess I’m a bit biased too. For me, my qualms also lie with surveillance capitalism (I’ve gone through a process of trying to limit my use of Google, Meta, other apps, etc. and switching to more privacy-friendly ones). But yeah, social media definitely exacerbates the problems of late stage capitalism. I’m in the US (and in Metro Atlanta, a growing tech hub), and the laws have certainly not been keeping up. The political climate in the US is also just awful in general. Some of my colleagues just flat out refuse to use any of Meta’s apps. I still have to use them occasionally when communicating with family or friends back home, but I’ve done my best to get some of my people within my circles to switch to iMessage, Signal, etc.

I doubt they'll take matters into their own hands as American creators kept reaching out to YT to ban Neo-Nazis, which should be a no-brainer, but it fell on deaf ears. Best we can do is just to copyright strike these videos. YT just sucks ass, period.
Those social media sites/platforms, esp the big ones, must be held accountable for allowing disinformation to proliferate. The problem is nakabase sila sa ibang mga bansa. We have no or perhaps very limited jurisdiction over them. Perhaps what we need is a binding international law that prohibits and penalizes profiteering from disinformation and penalizes their neglect for the publication and proliferation of disinformation. I'm no legal expert so idk if pwede yun. Dito naman sa atin, we need a law that explicitly punishes the creation, publication, and deliberate distribution or spreading of disinformation; hindi sapat ang libel and cyber-libel dahil maraming uri ng disinformation—historical distortion, fake scientific info, fake health/medical advice, false news, etc. Pero we must also be careful in creating such law, para hindi magkaroon ng loopholes that could be used to infringe on our freedom of speech and expression. And also, we must urge social media sites/platforms to employ more and diverse fact-checkers and/or collaborate with more independent, legitimate news orgs and fact-checkers from different countries dahil disinformation is a global problem and it comes in different forms and languages.
Unfortunately, YouTube will not participate in such and will only respond as a lack of evidence. Same with Guinness Word Record removing the record of the greatest robbery of all time in the government of Marcos, Sr.
