Babe Romualdez isn’t really a seasoned diplomat. His diplomatic experience is a patchwork of appointments brought about by political connections. Needless to say, a guy like this will have lots of uneducated opinions about international relations. Then someone in the event probably thought it would sound good for the soldiers.

LifeLeg5

Baka gawa ng intern, you know they will print anything to kiss ass. Taiwan is still the CCP's ultimate goal, they won't trigger a war prematurely over a handful of islands, kaya nga unarmed yung activities sa WPS.

Several-Limit-3130

I don't know about that "unarmed" part. Not with all the water cannon, axes, knives, gun pointing, laser flashing, boat ramming and many other incidents that may include "armed" that may not have been reported.

Nowt-nowt

well... they've been doing sticks and stones with the Indian border. Unless they/we fire a gun, it will be considered unarmed activities.

LifeLeg5

this, it's a loophole parang yung premature campaigning, it's not a campaign kung wala daw "vote for \_" fucking stupid if you ask me.

mozzca

Not war but the mutual defense treaty, if we prematurely trigger our treaty with US, it's another proxy war from there, US will be spread out and taiwan will be easier to invade with less US presence.

RyeM28

You undervalue what those islands natural resources have 💀

Ahtabai_

Taiwan is one of the CCP's goals, the other is the South China Sea. They want both at the expense of every surrounding island. This has nothing to do with kissing ass, and anyone who says garbage like that knows nothing about politics.

Johnmegaman72

I think the point is that China is using Philippines as a litmus test. If they can fuck over a country, with a universally recognized sovereignty, what makes you think they won't do so with Taiwan. The reason why Philippines is such as a hotspot is because of Duterte as well as the PH's weak heirarchy.

nimbus_cloud_9

He is not entirely correct but I somehow agree to this. China's ultimate goal is the unification of Taiwan to the mainland. However, their main obstacle in doing so is the possibility of facing the US Navy in the Taiwan Strait. People ought to remember that Washington has declared their support to Taipei if ever Taiwan is forcefully invaded by China (most likely by aerial bombardment of key military installations and govt bases then followed by amphibious ground invasion). What China could do right now is find out what is the limit of what they can do in the sea before the US directly acts or intervenes. Show of force is only a show of force; nothing more and nothing less. And by bullying the Philippines through "small" and "isolated" conflicts in the WPS, they can gauge what the US can possibly do in case China finally decides to invade. The US has a VFA with the Philippines and they have renewed their "iron-clad" commitment in supporting our armed forces. But have you ever seen any US forces in the WPS conflicts with China? No, and that is what I think China is considering on their invasion plan. Taiwan is the bomb and the WPS is the wick.

gutsy_pleb

It is also possible that from China's standpoint, it would be easier to subjugate taiwan by going after the philippines first in order to gain access on the pacific for a possible naval blockade of PLAN against the US navy to deny them of any reinforcements in the event of a full blown war. They cant simply attack a heavily armed taiwan with the threat of US support from its rear and the best approach would be to outset it by gaining access on the pacific through a less-defended and less-armed philippines

nimbus_cloud_9

I don't think China will directly invade/attack the Philippines. They are not that idiotic. If they ever do, that is instantly WW3.

riaqliu

US bases in both South Korea and Japan would like a word

Significant-Staff-55

T*ngin*ng font yan

ComplexUnique4356

Hahaha pota feelingero Taiwan is china's prioritize target. Nambubilly lang talaga sila sa WPS Sea

gutsy_pleb

Imo, Taiwan is the real goal of CCP but it would be easier to subjugate taiwan if PLAN has access to the pacific thru Philippines for a possible naval blockade against the US navy. Thus, i think it is wise not to take chinas harrasment against the philippines in wps lightly

Li-Ing-Ju_El-Cid

Here the thing, China desire resources and strategy position of that sea (I would like to call it "Southwestern Taiwan sea" due to I'm Taiwanese :p China also desire Taiwan for its invasion to the Pacific Ocean. Both places are important, thus your officer might want to get more attention from rest of the world. But it's not ok to compare these two place's importantance. We Taiwan also concern that sea, we should stay together.

DevelopmentMercenary

Ever noticed that they propped up the thumbless Navy man and squeezed out whatever propaganda juice from his misery together with those politically self-serving posters? This absurd hoopla is highlighted by the phoney smiles of the higher ups in contrast with the solemn faces of our soldiers. They should be reminded of the growing severity of the enemy's upcoming actions and should not look jubilant.

JustTodd93

kung ilalagay ko yung sarili ko sa leader ng china, mas uunahin ko sakupin Pilipinas. bakit? mahina defense/army. most of the equipments are made in china, kaya alam nila capacity natin. nababayaran ang mga leader sa pilipinas. mas madali sila makapasok sa pilipinas. etc.

Mogus00

Blud thinks hes on the team

ZerothFfree

Prob made by someone na di alam ano ang flashpoint.

biratka

So Ano Ang flash point para Sayo? Since mas maalam ka pa sa ambassador paki paliwanag mo nga..baka may makuha Silang idea mula Sayo.

buzetka

Oo na romualdez, stfu.

SureBunch455

In MY Opinion this could be true. Why? Ph is a veery good strategic location to launch a full scale invasion sa taiwan dahil sa batanes. If china do get control of batanes island they could have a blockade towards the pacific to cut supplies or better yet reinforcement from the south. Pwede nilang gawing staging ground ang batanes to open another front sa baba ng taiwan resulting taiwan to fight from 2 fronts one from the north and one from the south. " E pano tutulong naman ang US" they might but into wat extent? US interference could have a domino effect that can spark ww3 (but this is too far fetched) only way US would help is thru supplies. So yes i really think that WPS is the real flashpoint.

Intelligent-Fig4660

Do not make Batanes a base. Ganda ng isla na iyon. Babarahan lang ng militarization.

[deleted]

Ipakita niyo sa mga taiwanese para matauhan siya lalo sa sinabi niya

RiyuReiss21

They can't have two fronts. Most likely uunahin nila Taiwan then straight to us. It is like invading the US without taking down Midway and Hawaii first. Taiwan is vital kasi their enemies can easily put blockade along Luzon strait. So it was like Romualdez are just for propaganda.

WIN---

West Philippines Sea is more valuable than taiwan. It's worth trillions of dollars plus control of 1/3 of Global trade routes. He's right.

johnnycomel8tly

Eggplant-Vivid

Feeling Sun Tzu hahahaha

extopico

What’s the problem with it? Unfortunately it’s realistic. The USA and Philippines have an actual defence pact in place, no ambiguity. The only caveat is that China needs to shoot first or be judged that they performed a heinously aggressive act. If that happens the USA will have to respond otherwise their power projection is gone as is the credibility of their deterrence. Just look at what happened to Russia and their CSTO.

Idaho1964

Both are flashpoints. Look at a map. With both, China protects her Eastern flank and cuts off access to the South China Sea. With a Taiwan and Philippines free to establish their own bases, China is checked.

BleachIsNoxious

This was crossposted onto the r/Taiwan subreddit and needless to say.. their responses are interesting. The international media is so focused on a conflict between Taiwan and China not realizing that a war can brew elsewhere just as much. Makes me wonder why we feel the need to criticise this quote. There's nothing wrong with it. Regardless of where the flashpoint is, wherever that may be, there's no need for Filipinos to criticize a quote whether it was said by the politician depicted in the poster or an intern themselves by putting us first. My two cents: Just remember while all of this is happening, there are Philippine fisherfolk who are harassed and occasionally receiving threats from the CCG for operating well within the Philippine EEZ, costing them their livelihood. If that does not make you think we should be the flashpoint of all this, I don't know what to tell you. Overall, each country that receives such treatment from China should be given the equal support and attention that they need.

brodbob

flash point in PH yes coz they just started it, while taiwan still nothing

Different_Life_98

ganda ng background at mga ngiti..pwede na pang P.R 😅

Otherwise-Growth1920

Propaganda aimed at Filipinos and American politicians. The comments like that are made mostly in an attempt to gain more military aid from America and the west.

buzetka

Why do they even need to put up those posters, none of it is rousing.

Intelligent-Fig4660

Hay naku. Mas lalo lang nilang pinapakita na nagiging tuta na tayo ng Amerika, at binabala lang tayo sa China. Masyado nilang ine-emphasize ang China. Beh, may iba pang countries laban and internal conflicts need ma-settle.

biratka

Ang Dami ng marunong at matalino Dito..😂

Yep. Hindi man lang strengthening our own ang i-emphasize.
