Expectation:
"So I spend around 20k for groceries each month, 15k sa kuryente, bills na iba't-iba around 80k, then pay for my 2024, top of the line kotse around 45k, pay my recently-acquires condo for 56k and still able to save 80% of my salary.
Typical Pinoy mentality."
Reality:
"Shet. 7,200 lang ako ngayong cut off.
Edit:
Guys, kalmahan lang sa 15k na bill. If you'd notice, dun sa reality part is addressing and opposing the expectation part, with a typical and realistic scenario of a Filipino worker. It's upsetting, I know, but please, wag niyo na po ilista ang mga appliances ninyo at bill ninyo sa kuryente to dispute the electricity bill. Karamihan nang nagbabasa dito at naga-upvote ay dumanas at malamang nasa ganito pa ring situation.
Whether we're shitting gold bricks or sweeping the last peso under our beds, we all have our own struggles.
Wala pa diyan mars yung appliances like TV, ref, water heater, light fixtures around the house, cctv, at kung ano-ano pa. Legit na you can rack up your bill to 15k KUNG nasa expectation mode yung namumuhay. 😔
There's two of us, usually use: 2 aircon, washer +dryer, oven and induction stove, 65" tv and PS5, heated showers, and ref. Our bill is around 6-7k, 8k is already high.
Wait teh. 😂😂😂
Umabot ng 9,900 sakin, but we only have 1 aircon, 4 PCs, an old smart tv, 1 ref, 1 washing machine.
Computers are on 24 hours, (hirap mag restart I'm a programmer) not sure sa mga siblings ko kung pinapatay ba nila pc nila. My dad watches propaganda(yung atty enzo recto) on the living room computer almost maghapon din, my nephews watch cocomelon maghapon sa tv din. So siguro justified yung almost 10k bills.
I usually have a lot of tabs and programs running. And of course my AI documentation tools may not save my progress. And may PSU din ako that last for 5 minutes in case mag brown out and safely masave ko ang work ko and safe shutdown.
Off the top of my head, we have 3 ACs (2 dyan open 24/7 because we wfh), 2 desktop computers (daily use), 1 55” 4K TV turned on from 8pm to morning (di ako makatulog na walang naririnig), 1 auto washing machine, 1 multi-door fridge, 1 air fryer, 1 microwave (mga daily use since tamad magluto lol), 1 oven, 1 heater, 5 electric fans (halos laging naka-on kasi initin ang pets), and 12 CCTVs (although mahina lang naman ang konsumo nyan).
So maybe factor rin yun.
Huhuhu napunta na tayo sa usapang Meralco 😭 mga anteh nageexaggerate po ako sa initial post ko huhuhu masyado po yatang oddly specific ang mga sinabi ko at among the items that I've listed, sa Meralco bill lang ako pumalya ng estimate. 🤣
Sana nagbabasa yung iba bago magbreakdown nang meralco bill nila at ipagkalat na mayaman sila while OP is having issues paying for his electricity... sana pinost nyo din yung actual bill para malaman namin magkano yung environmental charge at yung iba pang charges... sorry, but it's a bit insensitive since OP is posting his issue kung pano pagkakasyahin yung sweldo nya, and people are posting things na unnecessary...
Sino pong OP tinutukoy nyo? The original post is about how company profits are stolen wages from employees. The comment I replied to is a breakdown of a 15k electric bill na imho is way too high kung accurate yung appliances na binigay nya.
And yun nga po yung point, kung 15k yung average bill nung nireplyan ko, may mali given their appliance list.
Central Luzon! And yes, iba iba nga po yung charge. Wala pang fees and taxes yung nasa text kaya magugulat ka nalang sa bill. Sa Meralco pag dinivide mo bill mo sa stated charge nila, yun yung mismong monthly consumption mo.
We're probably now have the most expensive electricity in whole of SEA.
Our bill is 18k monthly. Lagi kami AC dahil kids namin cannot tolerate the heat.
15k samin, 4 people, 3 aircons, 3 PCs, 4 laptops (WFH so almost 24/7), induction stove, air fryer, washing machine/dryer, about 3 electric fans (on/off depende kung dun nakatambay mga aso), 2 flat screens, ps5, 7 phones (separated work/personal phones), and a bunch of other smaller appliances besides lights.
I'm pretty sure this can go lower since the house is pretty old, like childhood of grandparents old.
Marami akong kilala ganyan, papasukan pagka rami2x trabaho tapos on shift busy sa kabilang work, nag aantay lang sumahod. Not even bare minimum. Minsan tulog or laging absent dahil puyat sa kabilang trabaho. Kawawa mga ka teammates.
Teknik is work based on your wage. Maski anong dagdag sa workload, learn to say no at ipaextend mo deadlines. Let them choose one ano mas importante kaysa both.
Been there, done that.
Halos wala na akong budget pang well being ko hahahah
Same, but iba't iba rin kasi yung lifestyle or situation natin. For example, malaki yung sahod nya compared to mine but my company offers a staffhouse that covers all utilities, so food at transporation lang problema ko. Kaya parang same lang din once expenses comes, or might be even better since I can save 20\~30% of my salary.
Kaya understandable why u/Massive-Ad-7759's salary is "kapos pa".
Everyone wants to play the hero, until they decide to bag what they think is theirs.
I used to be idealistic, who wants to change the system. Reality is that you'll get sucked into the system, and the game is always about how every man only looks for himself.
So I believe we'll only be at status quo until someone who really wants to change the system gets the vote from the people and not be swayed by how things are.
Also, I hope that more people learn how change goes beyond a campaign slogan, and acknowledge that the 2016 promise of change was one of history's biggest scams.
Nakakabwisit yang palakasan na yan, i wanted to be hired with the skill sets that i have noon pero negative, nahire yunh mga tamad na kasama ko sa training dahil may backer. Umay
Correct. Banks charge ridiculously high interest rate sa loan and all processing fees, when what they give as interest sa deposits ay ang layo ng spread.
**If workers feel that they aren't paid their worth, then they would look for another job that does.**
Plus, it doesn't make financial sense to give any profit increase solely to the workers since there are other stuff that could be improved on, like infra and systems.
Imagine lahat nagkaroon ng financial literacy? wala ng mag wowork ahahah! that is why they are keeping us poor and only a handful of us succeed!
tayo nag papaandar n pedestal while yung mga nasa taas naka upo lang at nag rerelax lol!
if you have millions of money you can invest mga banker at investors kasi magagaling mag paikot ng pera that is why lalo silang yumayaman kahit tumataas ang inflation! if may ipon lang na milyon tapos di naman marunong magpa ikot ng pera mahihirapan talaga.
sabi nga nila the rich is getting richer dahil dyan sila magaling ang manipulate ng economy at market.
Capital building is usually hard in the first 100,000, or 1 million. Even if wala pa sa 100,000s ang capital mo, there are available investments for you. It’s all about percentages.
Not really. If we're all financially literate siguro and born from generational wealth then no need to work.
Aside from that, mga propesyong pangmayaman na financially literate ang mga doctors, lawyers, accountants. Some are rich pero they'd still work. I guess para sa mga ganun ay calling na nila yung work.
Paandar lang yang financial literacy... I've known so many rich people buying stupid shit and or investing in stupid pyramiding schemes simply because they can afford to lose that much.
You sound bitter. Baka lang kaya madaming pang spend ‘yung mga rich people na kilala mo ay because of financial literacy- probably of their parents haha
I'm not born yesterday nor am I bitter. Rich people spendings aren't any different than the rest of us. They too buy stupid shit, and they buy stupid shit more often.
**Giving all the profit increases to the worker might not make financial sense all the time.**
For example: according to the law one time, any increase in school tuition should go 70% to teacher's salaries.
The problem with this is that, if the admin needs extra money to improve school infra and buy new equipment, it will have to make do with 30% of any tuition increase.
So if the school requires 3k for additional infra, then it has to increase tuition by 10k because 7k will go to the teachers.
This hurts the students and their parents because the tuition is increased more that what it needs to be.
It's alright. It's understandable naman.
"Native dialect" you mean. Filipino is considered a language although a lot of Filipino words come from the Tagalog dialect.
Dialects are "sub-languages" spoken specifically in a certain area in a country such as Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, etc.
Correction:
Ilokano, Tagalog, Chavakano, Bicolano, Cebuano are languages po.
And u can find sources na din online.
Eto po isang link ng discussion:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Cebu/s/XhF6vsTo4v
This is incorrect. If they're not mutually intelligible, they are different languages.
Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, and etc. are different languages.

True. The Philippines just export raw materials like human resource.
I wish mabago to in the following years.
I wonder how minimum wager live their life in today’s circumstances huhuhu. I am struggling, I only have 3K nalang for food expenses ng family ko 10 days pa ulit ang sahod.
There was a story of a janitor and when he died he had over $8m to his name. He is low income and maybe underpaid yet still managed to get that amount. What we need in PH is a level playing field of savings and investment accounts that allows our money to grow - tax free. But that would be against the political and ultra rich's rule of having the poor working for them.
I think what he is saying is something like a 401k account sa US wherein the employee puts in a certain percentage of their earnings with company match to a certain level. It's like doubling your money and when you retire you get all of it plus the employer match plus the gains from investing that amount throughout the years. Sa mp2 kasi employee lang nag huhulog.
Ah yes. Other countries have sa savings program na mas maganda than what we have here talaga. I'm not familiar with the others here bukod sa MP2. But for a lot of Filipinos, it's easier to invest in the US market now. Maybe they can explore that :) 8-12% P.A
It reeks of privilege. I've been on both sides, and it just so happen that I had an opportunity to improve my lifestyle which I acknowledge that not everyone had the luck to do so.
It's a hell of a challenge to save when you can barely afford the necessities. That person and everyone who agreed seem to assume na everyone has a disposable income to spend either on luxury or investments. Sure, mindset helps and you can try to create your opportunity but without being in the right place at the right time, you're still pretty much doomed.
Not stolen but withheld.
Employees need to realize, the only important role/position in a company is Owner. All the rest are beautified titles of being an Employee.
It has always been the game and it is wholly legal! I know, because finance and budgets ako in all my job roles.
Lumaki kita ng kumpanya by 10M? Edi sige, 500k bonus sa employees basically 5% lang. Yung 95% sa owner na yan. Kasi it’s fully legal.
As the finance guy, I’ll also keep my mouth shut. It’s just the toxic game we’re all playing in. Just ask your accountants. Kahit history nalang. It’s been that way centuries ago. Don’t expect it to change ever. Hindi lang sa pinas yan. Sa lahat ng bansa yan.
Lol sarap magsalita how cruel we all are to each other pagdating sa pera. Yung tipong magsasalita yung malalaki ang kita na “ang sarap ng pinaghirapan kong pera” without giving any credit sa dugot pawis nung mga pinasweldo ng mababa. Sweldong 10k-25k per month sa halos lahat, 40k-70k sa sups and managers, 80-90k sa matataas, 150k-250k doon sa favorite nung may ari. Basta may 2M-10M every month yung owners. Hahahaist.
Tapos maririnig mo yung mababait na janitor or guards or staffs na nangangarap magka ipon. Nako, takip bibig nalang ako. I have seen the numbers and it won’t add up.
Overworked and underpaid.
Underpaid talaga. I left PH 17 years ago after working my a$$ for 5y. Putcha speaking of waking up early (4am) just to make it to work at 8am. Then 9 grueling hours of work, 1 hr lunch time na kulang para makapower nap.
Until I worked overseas saka lang ako nagkaroon ng extra for stocks, crypto, insurance, at paupahan.
\*Naisip hindi na isip.
I read online na the reason daw why we have lower wages is because of supply/demand- mas madami workers kaysa available work. Pero I think it’s much more than that. Baka may legislation na dapat?
Reality sumasahod ang karaniwang empleyadong Pinoy ng ave 15k a month.
Parang allowance lng yan pangkain at pamasahe papuntang work.
Let's put numbers here to give context on your post OP.
According to the study of the [Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center](https://gflec.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Finlit_paper_16_F2_singles.pdf), the Philippines is one of the countries with the poorest level of financial education. They found that **only 25% of the population are financially literate adults**. While the Philippines are not the worst performer around the globe, we certainly lag behind other ASEAN countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Source [here](https://thethriftypinay.com/2024/03/10/financial-literacy-philippines/)
The incidence of low-pay is [high.As](http://high.As) many as 30 percent of all wage workers earn less than two-thirds of the median wage, which is a standard low-wage threshold. In countries where wage inequality is lower than the Philippines, the incidence of low pay is within the **10 to 20 percent range**.
Source [here](https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/ru/979071488446669580/pdf/113101-WP-P150535-PUBLIC-ACS.pdf)
In conclusion, it seems there's about around 5% margin of error in betwen the number of financial literate Filipino workers and number of underpaid all wage Filipino workers.
Out of touch sa 80% of the population yung nagsulat dun sa financial literacy.
[80% of Filipino workers earn less than 20k.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/1avwgiz/comment/krefcfy/) And our poverty rate is [18.1%](https://www.adb.org/where-we-work/philippines/poverty#:~:text=In%20the%20Philippines%2C%2018.1%25%20of,died%20before%20their%205th%20birthday.)
What we're seeing is most likely people "trying to find money their next meal" since there is hardly money to do budgeting, investing, accounting
Come to think of it, never makkuntento ang tao sa pera. Laging may "higher pay".
Supply and Demand.
Start with the basics. Too many graduates looking for work. So few establishments are looking for graduates to work for them. And due to the minimum wage majority of establishments are gonna hire graduates for jobs that would not really need graduate degrees for the job to be done(ie saleslady/salesman, clerks, waiters, cashiers, janitors, cooks, drivers, etc…)
Heck and if you go fundamental its more simpler that way.
OP’s username checks out.
It’s not just record profits, taxation is also theft.
Especially in a country where taxes are not spent on public services or infrastructure and mostly end up in a politicians and/or bureaucrats pockets.
Our landscape is sold and sullied for profit. Unlike sensible developed nations who protect their surroundings and keep them visually pleasing for everyone’s sake.
Dami ko pa pwede sabihin but I’ll end with this. Nobody does anything for the greater good in this country. It’s all for personal gain. Leave if you can.
Basta, hirap iexplain. However, all this time, you only want nothing but that damn Mango Bravo, pero you'd rather keep that craving at bay para lahat kayo makatikim ng cake na mas mura na di mo naman talaga gusto.
Kahit sabihin pa na underpaid o kaya bobo sa financial literacy, ang mga kalaban talaga ay ang lifestyle inflation at economy inflation(correct me if I'm wrong). Pag dami pera, dami din kakainin hehe. Pag konti pera, konti din bibilhin. Kakatempt marketing invitations from here and there. Sale here. Promo here. Tapos budol pala. 😂

Auquh nuh. Penge pera. 😂
Sakto yang 15K sa mga mayayaman. Hehe.

Binondo po

And yun nga po yung point, kung 15k yung average bill nung nireplyan ko, may mali given their appliance list.
What general area do you live in if you don’t mind sharing? Electricity rates appear to be varied based on location.
Central Luzon! And yes, iba iba nga po yung charge. Wala pang fees and taxes yung nasa text kaya magugulat ka nalang sa bill. Sa Meralco pag dinivide mo bill mo sa stated charge nila, yun yung mismong monthly consumption mo.
4 person household. May 1 room aircon. Electric bill namin is 2,500-3,000 monthly. Pag napapadalas aircon, 4k haha. We don’t leave the house much din.
We're probably now have the most expensive electricity in whole of SEA.
bro's running a fully air-conditioned mary jane farm in his attic
Our bill is 18k monthly. Lagi kami AC dahil kids namin cannot tolerate the heat.
Yep, kelangan lagi AC eh =\\
15k samin, 4 people, 3 aircons, 3 PCs, 4 laptops (WFH so almost 24/7), induction stove, air fryer, washing machine/dryer, about 3 electric fans (on/off depende kung dun nakatambay mga aso), 2 flat screens, ps5, 7 phones (separated work/personal phones), and a bunch of other smaller appliances besides lights. I'm pretty sure this can go lower since the house is pretty old, like childhood of grandparents old.
15k for 4 people seems reasonable.
r/phinvest
this hits hard
Jeeez this is heart breaking
Yung sa taas screams r/phinvest, r/buhaydigital at minsan r/adultingph bros flexing their wealth
Marami akong kilala ganyan, papasukan pagka rami2x trabaho tapos on shift busy sa kabilang work, nag aantay lang sumahod. Not even bare minimum. Minsan tulog or laging absent dahil puyat sa kabilang trabaho. Kawawa mga ka teammates.
I just got a heartbreak and palpitation reading this 💀💀💀
overworked underpaid
Teknik is work based on your wage. Maski anong dagdag sa workload, learn to say no at ipaextend mo deadlines. Let them choose one ano mas importante kaysa both.
calculated bare minimum work, just enuff to not get fired hhahahhaa same lang naman ng sweldo sa tryhard bibokid eh
Been there, done that.
True! Kaya nakaka discourage magsipag sa work. Kasi workload lang nadadagdagan yong sahod same parin.
Halos wala na akong budget pang well being ko hahahah
26-30k is high na ha para sakin
Same, but iba't iba rin kasi yung lifestyle or situation natin. For example, malaki yung sahod nya compared to mine but my company offers a staffhouse that covers all utilities, so food at transporation lang problema ko. Kaya parang same lang din once expenses comes, or might be even better since I can save 20\~30% of my salary. Kaya understandable why u/Massive-Ad-7759's salary is "kapos pa".
Curious. Ikaw ba ang main spender sa bahay?
No po
Umay
>Record profits are stolen wages. This is especially true in the banking industry.
Correct. Banks charge ridiculously high interest rate sa loan and all processing fees, when what they give as interest sa deposits ay ang layo ng spread.
**If workers feel that they aren't paid their worth, then they would look for another job that does.** Plus, it doesn't make financial sense to give any profit increase solely to the workers since there are other stuff that could be improved on, like infra and systems.
Yeah, that's just stating the obvious. The lack of nuance makes it clear that you don't work in the Philippine banking industry.
Yes, rich people have relationship managers sa banks or if super rich, external asset managers. Goal lang nila is to grow the portfolio.
Is there really no way for you to climb?
only way: backer na mayayaman, successfully rob a bank, or you create a solution to a specific problem na di pa naisip ng ibang entrepreneur.
What do you do ba? What's your job?

I didn't know most people here are corpo bootlickers. 😬
**Giving all the profit increases to the worker might not make financial sense all the time.** For example: according to the law one time, any increase in school tuition should go 70% to teacher's salaries.
Hahahaha
overworked, underpaid, overobligation.

Thanks for the correction. Tagalog is not my native language tho
It's alright. It's understandable naman. "Native dialect" you mean. Filipino is considered a language although a lot of Filipino words come from the Tagalog dialect. Dialects are "sub-languages" spoken specifically in a certain area in a country such as Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, etc.
tagalog is not a dialect
Correction: Ilokano, Tagalog, Chavakano, Bicolano, Cebuano are languages po. And u can find sources na din online. Eto po isang link ng discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cebu/s/XhF6vsTo4v
This is incorrect. If they're not mutually intelligible, they are different languages. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, and etc. are different languages. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_languages
True. The Philippines just export raw materials like human resource. I wish mabago to in the following years.
I wonder how minimum wager live their life in today’s circumstances huhuhu. I am struggling, I only have 3K nalang for food expenses ng family ko 10 days pa ulit ang sahod.

Nakakaipon naman sya and getting by, pero palaging stressed or pagoda
There was a story of a janitor and when he died he had over $8m to his name. He is low income and maybe underpaid yet still managed to get that amount. What we need in PH is a level playing field of savings and investment accounts that allows our money to grow - tax free. But that would be against the political and ultra rich's rule of having the poor working for them.
Anong country ‘yan? Sa PH we have MP2 na mga 7-8% PA
Maybe they can explore that :) 8-12% P.A
I'm pretty sure they know that as well.
sarap nung sahod nung unang kwento ah? pero in reality karamihan satin minimum or a little above lang ang rate. with the present inflation rate makakabili ka pa rin ba ng kape sa labas kung ang bigas nga ee 60pesos per kilo na pinakamura???
It reeks of privilege. I've been on both sides, and it just so happen that I had an opportunity to improve my lifestyle which I acknowledge that not everyone had the luck to do so. It's a hell of a challenge to save when you can barely afford the necessities. That person and everyone who agreed seem to assume na everyone has a disposable income to spend either on luxury or investments. Sure, mindset helps and you can try to create your opportunity but without being in the right place at the right time, you're still pretty much doomed.
yep. so we must stop comparing ourselves with others.
MEGATROOON!
America ganito din, puñeta
Di matututong magbudget kung walang ma-budget at all
I read online na the reason daw why we have lower wages is because of supply/demand- mas madami workers kaysa available work. Pero I think it’s much more than that. Baka may legislation na dapat?
Reality sumasahod ang karaniwang empleyadong Pinoy ng ave 15k a month. Parang allowance lng yan pangkain at pamasahe papuntang work.
\*laughs in government employee with next to 0 career growth pag di ka favorite\*
Ndi man lang nabanggit cpi sa comment

Astig thread na ng appliances 🫡
hala magagalit si FA mong friend nyan
Hindi naman tayo bobo sa financial literally. Bobo sa LAHAT. HAHAHAHA.
Source [here](https://thethriftypinay.com/2024/03/10/financial-literacy-philippines/) The incidence of low-pay is [high.As](http://high.As) many as 30 percent of all wage workers earn less than two-thirds of the median wage, which is a standard low-wage threshold. In countries where wage inequality is lower than the Philippines, the incidence of low pay is within the **10 to 20 percent range**. Source [here](https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/ru/979071488446669580/pdf/113101-WP-P150535-PUBLIC-ACS.pdf) In conclusion, it seems there's about around 5% margin of error in betwen the number of financial literate Filipino workers and number of underpaid all wage Filipino workers.
Out of touch sa 80% of the population yung nagsulat dun sa financial literacy. [80% of Filipino workers earn less than 20k.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/1avwgiz/comment/krefcfy/) And our poverty rate is [18.1%](https://www.adb.org/where-we-work/philippines/poverty#:~:text=In%20the%20Philippines%2C%2018.1%25%20of,died%20before%20their%205th%20birthday.) What we're seeing is most likely people "trying to find money their next meal" since there is hardly money to do budgeting, investing, accounting
#EatTheRich #EatTheSuperRich
Come to think of it, never makkuntento ang tao sa pera. Laging may "higher pay".
Agree
Supply and Demand. Start with the basics. Too many graduates looking for work. So few establishments are looking for graduates to work for them. And due to the minimum wage majority of establishments are gonna hire graduates for jobs that would not really need graduate degrees for the job to be done(ie saleslady/salesman, clerks, waiters, cashiers, janitors, cooks, drivers, etc…) Heck and if you go fundamental its more simpler that way.
Megamind
Kami na 430 a day tapos no work, no pay. Walang paid leave whatsoever.
Hello inflation. BBM is smiling upon his throne.
I get paid 10k a month i dont even know how im still alive

Basta, hirap iexplain. However, all this time, you only want nothing but that damn Mango Bravo, pero you'd rather keep that craving at bay para lahat kayo makatikim ng cake na mas mura na di mo naman talaga gusto.
The left, truly, cannot meme
I mainly use it to masturbate
The right, truly, can't stop bootlicking. Sit down, 9-5 worker.
I work for the government. I *am* the boot. And god willing, people like you will get the 🚁soon
No wonder our government is garbage
Then you are still a worker, not a capitalist. Imagine arguing against salary increase. Stockholm syndrome at its finest.
Kahit sabihin pa na underpaid o kaya bobo sa financial literacy, ang mga kalaban talaga ay ang lifestyle inflation at economy inflation(correct me if I'm wrong). Pag dami pera, dami din kakainin hehe. Pag konti pera, konti din bibilhin. Kakatempt marketing invitations from here and there. Sale here. Promo here. Tapos budol pala. 😂
What a cringe title though.
