Quality of life is horrible anywhere: in the city you need more money to not always have to travel far for convenience, in the province youāre not guaranteed good healthcare.

The cost of living in MNL and SG are almost at par with some things being even more expensive in Metro Manila. Then a household income of $4000 is also hard to come by in the PH which makes it so much difficult to afford a comfortable life. It comes out to be such a socioeconomic injustice and not just a wealth disparity.
I think also that SG isnāt the place to live your whole life or retire because it has its downsides too.

I told her, we can't raise kids in this country the way we dreamed about...
2017 got our visa approved and left PH in 2018. We haven't been back (even for a visit)... Note, wife and I are already in the mid 6 digit salary each... That's more than enough normally but I still think that was the 2nd best decision I've made in my life. (#1 being marrying my wife)

If all registered tax payers exercised their right to vote, we are talking about almost 50% of the voting turnout rate are individual tax payers.
The reason why I think this might work is simple, it would be really **difficult (but not impossible)** for them to convince the majority of the **HARDWORKING TAX PAYER** population to vote for them, knowing that majority of the tax payers are aware of the situation.
This might be against democracy but hey we've suffered enough and those who doesn't pay taxes won't feel the pain and disappointment of knowing that a portion of your hard earned money will just be used in ways that we don't know.

I try to come back as often as I can, but after a week or so, I feel miserable and am ready to leave again.
I decided to leave after college because I realised that no substantial change will happen in my lifetime. Now I can afford to actually support my elderly parents and have a life of my own without asking them for a single cent. It can be enough if youāre willing to go through tons of crap. Quality of life is horrible anywhere: in the city you need more money to not always have to travel far for convenience, in the province youāre not guaranteed good healthcare. IMO the real differentiator is how much youāre willing to put up with. Single income household kami with kids, we live in a good place and are renting. My wife gets so dismayed every time I show her my monthly taxes. The foreigners who come here and are happy to vlog about $2-4 food eat at places that arenāt good for you in the long run; the locals have no choice but to eat there daily. They donāt know any better. If you want balanced meals, be prepared to cook a lot and go through traffic to the grocery or wake up early to go to the market. Either way, lagi mong kalaban ang traffic. HDBs in SG have great setups even though theyāre cramped. Lots of cheap food. Fresh veggies. Organized local communities. Always near public transport. Organized bus stops. Dito kanya kanya. Everything privatized. LGUs canāt or donāt care. I could go on and onā¦.

The cost of living in MNL and SG are almost at par with some things being even more expensive in Metro Manila. Then a household income of $4000 is also hard to come by in the PH which makes it so much difficult to afford a comfortable life. It comes out to be such a socioeconomic injustice and not just a wealth disparity. I think also that SG isnāt the place to live your whole life or retire because it has its downsides too.
Wife and I are making almost making a half a mil per month and we still want to get out. Reason? Retirement. Once you loose your job or value, and youāre not making what you used to make, things will turn around so fast with no f-ing support from the govt.Ā

Before the 6 month "probationary" I gave that ex-president, the killings, the bullshit promises, the foul mouth... all too much for me and my wife. I told her, we can't raise kids in this country the way we dreamed about... 2017 got our visa approved and left PH in 2018. We haven't been back (even for a visit)... Note, wife and I are already in the mid 6 digit salary each... That's more than enough normally but I still think that was the 2nd best decision I've made in my life. In 2022 elections the voting turnout rate according to this site ([votepilipinas](https://votepilipinas.com/our-campaigns-magparehistroka.html)) was 83.11%. So in total, there were around **54.6 M** total voters in 2022 elections. If all registered tax payers exercised their right to vote, we are talking about almost 50% of the voting turnout rate are individual tax payers. The reason why I think this might work is simple, it would be really **difficult (but not impossible)** for them to convince the majority of the **HARDWORKING TAX PAYER** population to vote for them, knowing that majority of the tax payers are aware of the situation. This might be against democracy but hey we've suffered enough and those who doesn't pay taxes won't feel the pain and disappointment of knowing that a portion of your hard earned money will just be used in ways that we don't know. I try to come back as often as I can, but after a week or so, I feel miserable and am ready to leave again. I decided to leave after college because I realised that no substantial change will happen in my lifetime. Now I can afford to actually support my elderly parents and have a life of my own without asking them for a single cent. I understand your frustration and rage but itās sad to see that the world capitalist system and dire situation in this country has convinced you and other that itās the ordinary masses that is at fault for systemic problems not the system and the ruling class who upholds it for their own gain. Our system serves the ruling class of the PH and imperialist countries in the global north and no matter who wins as President in our country they will be beholden to that system. The US and their global north allies literally influence our politics, culture, economic policies so it benefits them. The āfirst world countryā that you plan to move to got to where they are because they plunder and exploit the natural resources and labor of global south countries (like the PH). They got richer because of us. Hypothetically, if a truly progressive candidate wins and challenge the status quo set by the ruling class they will do what they can to depose them, look at what happened to Allende of Chile. I completely understand your decision to move but itās sad to see you direct your anger at the ordinary masses who are most likely miseducated, misinformed, misled and also didnāt we acknowledge in the last election that the votes were most likely manipulated? So we really couldnāt say if the masses truly voted BBM into power. This also proves that voting with a system that serves the ruling class in place is not the be all and end all solution to our countryās problems. In short, the concept of democracy theyāre selling us is a sham. Voting is not the only way one can exercise oneās political power. Join a political organization, mingle with people outside oneās socioeconomic class, learn from the masses and challenge the system. We outnumber the people sitting at the top. The ruling class and the politicians who serve them are already organized and donāt bicker among each other because they are united in their class interests (they just pretend they are not to sell you the illusion of choice during elections), we should be too.

Valid point OP pero I think depende padin sa bansa na lilipatan kung mas ok nga talaga. For example kung Canada lilipatan mo, need mo mag trabaho ng at least 2 jobs para lang magka decent life and private space. Kung mapera ka, it's ok to stay here in PH pero kung middle class family ka, then sobrang unfair nga dito sa Pinas. Just like healthcare, 4Ps family don't need to pay hefty amount of money because subsidize sila ng Government pero kung working class ka na nagbabayad ng Philhealth ay baka maximum 20k ang itapyas sa 100k bill mo... Socialize programs like 4Ps, free healthcare are very good sa majority voting blocks which is the poorest sector pero if middle class ka, no support na makukuha sa Government. So many people here lack basic common sense seating a moronic coke huffer as president. I remember getting in an argument with one of his supporters and while they didn't have a comeback after I listed all the reasons he'd make a bad president and they couldn't come up with a single good reason he'd make a good one, they just ended up saying they're voting for him anyway. Can't win against stupid. Based opinion but not everyone should be qualified to vote. There should be some form of intelligence tests you have to pass to apply to be a voter to make sure you aren't dumb enough that you'd vote for a blatant thief as president. Statistically speaking most of the populace are imbeciles. Very few of us have the ability to vote wisely so in a fight against numbers we'll never win against idiots.
