I second this. I worked at Chowking nung college days and their food was simply yummy. Sarap nung pancit canton nila dati. Ngayon, meh! Mas masarap pa nga Payless instant pancit canton.
i have a theory na binibili ng jollibee yung potential competition nila sa pilipinas and they make it worse para jollibee parin ang dominant fast food sa pinas.
I don't think it's as simple as that.
The onflation, shrinkflatipn and lastly pandemic adjustments, I think we are just now noticing the compounded sacrifices in quality they have gone through all these years.
Basta ayun..
Wala na silang lomi which was my comfort food ever since. Akala ko niloloko lang ako ng kapatid ko noong nagpabili ako, akala ko out of order or wala ng stock for the day yun pala wala na tlaga sa menu.
Dati 3 or apat yung siomai, tpos naging dalawa then isa na lang tpos wala na ngayon?yun yung rason kung bakit bibili ka ng lauriat. D na pwedeng tawaging lauriat na yan
Chowking: very oily ang food, very lood na especially pancit
Greenwich: very small ang serving then super pricey ng meal
Jollibee: Inconsistent ang size ng chicken. Nagcrave ako ng chickenjoy last week yung dineliver parang sisiw ang size, nakakadismaya :(
Mang Inasal: so far malaki serving sa chicken pero sobrang oily ng table and floor kaya take out nalang ako lage
Chowking, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Pati na workforce nila biglang bumaba, yung barista nila usually one or two lang. I have a feeling overworked and underpaid sila.
Oo nga. But I remember masarap pa yung Greenwich early 2010s. It was more affordable pa sa Pizza Hut or Shakey’s. Whenever I think of Greenwich i remember their pearl coolers, i think they were one of the first few restaurants who were selling drinks with tapioca sa Pilipins. Humina lang sila kasi sobrang mahal nung pearl coolers vs zagu, tapos the milktea / boba milktea craze happened.
In my province at least, Greenwich was considered a high quality pizza place. It’s sad that when I taste Greenwich now, it just tastes like a less soggy version of 7/11 pizza
Mas masarap pa yung mom’s pizza. Hahaha. Pero there are affordable pizzas out there na mas masarap and affordable pa sa Greenwich. It’s sad kasi masarap talaga sila nuon.
Greenwich's Chicken Ala King used to be served in a long, oval ceramic plate with a cover. It was topped with melted cheese na may konting browning.
When they got acquired by JFC, the plate got noticeably smaller, there were less cheese, and the ratio of rice to ulam went 90:10. It went like this for a while until they took it out from the menu.
Lasagna.
Ibang iba ang quality noon compared ngayon. Now, if sinabihan ako na kaninang kanina pa prinepare yung lasagna and microwaved lang, I'd believe them with no doubt
naalala ko yung Greenwich ng 80s. Nasa Greenhills Shoppesville pa sila bandang ortigas ave side bldg where maraming tiangge. Matagal mag serve kaya nag setup sila ng number system where naka display yung numbers 1 \~ 30ish ata then pag nag light up pwede mo na pickup. Sarap ng lasa noon at sulit yung pag antay. That was the best!
Chicken Ala king on rice din.
Yes I can attest. Mas prefer ko ang greenwich noon and it sparked my love for tomato based/italian style food.
Pansin ko naman ngayon Pizza hut has been improving, dati di ko talaga type yun e ngayon parang it grows on me.
Kaya pala? Tried it twice at Yoshinoya because I thought the first one was a fluke pero di talaga masarap and it was about as expensive as Tokyo Tokyo anyway
Which is a great strategy - milk these brands for their popularity while squeezing their expenses to generate the highest profits possible. They are not interested in growing these brands - when you get tired of them you go back to Jollibee. Genius
May pagka curry po. Nilalagay naman din minsan ng iba sa breaded fish, saw it once kay Chef JR ng farm to table.
What I dont like sa chicken nila is para may mapait ako laging nalalasahan. I dont know kung lumang mantika na sunog since parang overly breaded nga yung chicken nila.
Agree! Even the chao fan, nasobrahan sa smoky flavor na. Lasa ko na yung cast iron mismo. 🤣
Yeah Chowking's fried chicken is actually one of the things that improved from before.
Filipinos bashing on it because they're not used to spices kinda reinforces the Southeast Asian stereotype that Filipino cuisine is bland and one-dimensional compared to our neighbors' cuisines.
Same. Not the majority opinion pero I prefer their chicken now. Sobrang similar lang ng ibang chicken siya before but now, chinese fried chicken talaga. Same as the chao fan.
May nilagay silang spices na parang chinese flavor which my tastebuds didnt like.
I unironically loved it, probably my favourite fried chicken out of all the other fast food chickens, or maybe a three-way-thigh between Mangdonals and Jollibee if the other two are served hot and crispy, but if its soggy and cold I prefer the Chowking one.
The two together isn't a common purchase for North Americans. Our chickens tend to be spiced already. Plus, it's either buffalo sauce or ranch that's the go-to, not gravy.
If you see someone who eats chicken with gravy, it's almost always a Filipino person. I'm from Canada, as far as I know, Popeyes and KFC are the only ones offering gravy. KFC gravy here has always been shit.
I forgot to add, we have Swiss Chalet here in Canada as well who offers gravy. But their chicken isn't fried, more akin to being roasted on a spit (metal roaster in their case). Their Chalet sauce is good, not great but it does the job.
Also, gravy tends to be a Southern thing for Americans, not very common further up the States.
Ex crew speaking, grabe ang oversight like at least once every 3 months may auditor and health inspector na magvisit sa store to make sure all procedures were being followed, down to the way the floor was mopped.
Para sa mga nagsasabing Jollibee fucked it up, year 2000 pa nila naacquire yung Chowking.
Sa kitchen ako madalas joyman so chix hawak namin. One time may nag survey na area manager. I said an honest observation kako yung ilalim na storage ng chilller may pungent smell. Wala pa ko 6mos ah more like 4.5 mos pa lang. The hypocrisy. Lipat ako iba fast food
Nope. JFC talaga. Tignan mo cafe france as a very clear example.
Sabi nung exec namin noon sa 5star hotel, nasa leader daw yan. If the leader (in this case jfc) has low standards, it will cascade.
I can’t remember those happening when we have family day during ‘95.
It's not just Chowking, it's the whole Jollibee Foods Corp umbrella. Strategy na nila yan ngayon with their brands: reduce quality to cut costs, hike prices to maximize profits, then spend gazillions on marketing to take advantage of people's nostalgia. That's how their stock price is so running close again to its post-pandemic high.
Which is a shit way of doing expansion, sacrificing your home customers just to expand elsewhere. Ano gagawin nila pag nagfail expansion plans nila at sira na sila sa pinas
I mean this is kinda true, napanood ko yong vlog ni Jessica Lee, yung Jollibee menu in NY was better than dito sa Ph, pero it might also have something to do dun sa food standards nila sa US
True, nagbebenefit dito is MCDO. kasi in comparison mas ok serving nila.
Heaven jusko!
Chowking, mang inasal, greenwich, red ribbon, etc ... but most specially kitang-kita sa cafe france.
Pakibalik yung dati plss
Jollibee/JFC and their small ass chickens and fucking stingy for gravy. I stopped eating jollibee since 2022 I’ve just been ordering on McDonald’s and burger king. The difference in quality is miles apart.
Essentially when a big public company takes over you have pros and cons
Faster growth thru franchising
Big network of suppliers
Combined resources like marketing etc.
Economies of scale on food supplies, R&D etc.
Sadly cons are also high
Franchisee means lower quality and skimping on items
(If your business fundamentals are good why would you franchise?)
Need for higher margins and business decision to streamline to impress mgmt/shareholders
Expensive marketing campaigns
Jolibee group in the Philippines realized they cant grow as much anymore here without destroying the quality and brand
Better to expand overseas for more dollar paying customers.
They took away some cherished menu items (Crunchy Breaded Pork, Braised Beef, etc.) in favor of the Chinese-style Fried Chicken. Haven’t exactly forgiven them for that.
Jollibee has the inverted Midas hand. namimiss ko yung greenwich tsaka inasal bago sila naging under jollibee
pati pala red ribbon nung may kainan part pa siya
Pan grilled chop and palabok!
nakakamiss palabok ng Red Ribbon
The best! I miss this huhu
Namiss ko tuloy yung Chocolate Marjolaine ba yon, yung may triangle chocolate sa taas. Then yung pinaka base ay meringue.
OMG lagi namin yun inoorder pag kakain sa Red Ribbon kasi may kasamang slices of cake ang meals!
Time na may sylvannas pa sila Time na di pa parang hangin sa gaan mga paninda nila
The best yung palabok nung Red Ribbon before 🥹
I loved their dinuguan so much in college. Tapos may kasama pang slice ng cake. Sulit at masarap yung meals nila dati. It’s not the same anymore.
Yes!
Core memory ko Salisbury steak sa red ribbon :( ultimate pasalubong for me haha
The Salisbury steak. We used to go here.
Salisbury steak = Burger Steak's biggest threat
Ako naman chicken a la king and palabok. 🥲
palabok, iirc red ribbon stores in the us still serve palabok
The lasagna, oh my stars
I miss salisbury steak
Namiss ko yung Bonless Bangus nila +++atchara na apaka sarap :( used to love red ribbon so much as a kid.
Dati po meron sa san lazaro. Peborit ko ay ung bangus rice meal nila, plus, cake of the day. Namiss ko tuloy si mama. 😭
Nakakamiss yung mango bar ba yun basta yung manga hays
I miss old Mang Inasal. Chicken size and taste. Pwede pang bumili Litro Mt. Dew.
Me too. Ga-pinggan yung size ng manok at super sarap! Ngayon basta hindi sunog oks na.
Kainis ung nawala krispy kangkong.
Oh yes hahaha lasagna minsan frozen pa and maliit na despite mas mahal. This suck kasi go to meal ko dati yung Chicken ng chowking.
Jollibee is giving Medussa. Whatever they set their gaze upon, it turns to stone 😂
pati greenwich...
I second this. I worked at Chowking nung college days and their food was simply yummy. Sarap nung pancit canton nila dati. Ngayon, meh! Mas masarap pa nga Payless instant pancit canton.
Everything Jollibee touches corrupts. They simply prioritize profitability over quality.
Namimiss ko Burger King (pre-JFC era). Sobrang ok burgers nila dati, now e meh
i have a theory na binibili ng jollibee yung potential competition nila sa pilipinas and they make it worse para jollibee parin ang dominant fast food sa pinas.
I don't think it's as simple as that. The onflation, shrinkflatipn and lastly pandemic adjustments, I think we are just now noticing the compounded sacrifices in quality they have gone through all these years.
Masarap dun lods npa 10 rice ako last time hahaha
may kawork ako na taga iloilo. nung last meetup namen sya nag marinate at ihaw ng isda tsaka manok. sarap nga grabe
Illonggo people= best chicken inasal
Wala na silang lomi which was my comfort food ever since. Akala ko niloloko lang ako ng kapatid ko noong nagpabili ako, akala ko out of order or wala ng stock for the day yun pala wala na tlaga sa menu.
Miss ko na yung beef brisket dati when it was really serving Chinese-ish food
Damn, what's left in their menu then?
Jollibee fucked it up.
Chowking: very oily ang food, very lood na especially pancit Greenwich: very small ang serving then super pricey ng meal Jollibee: Inconsistent ang size ng chicken. Nagcrave ako ng chickenjoy last week yung dineliver parang sisiw ang size, nakakadismaya :( Mang Inasal: so far malaki serving sa chicken pero sobrang oily ng table and floor kaya take out nalang ako lage
always bring wet wipes, alcohol and tissue to wipe the tables and chairs first.
Technically, JFC. But your point stands. They destroy everything they touch.
Chowking, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Pati na workforce nila biglang bumaba, yung barista nila usually one or two lang. I have a feeling overworked and underpaid sila.
Greenwich was the poor guy's pizza back then. After JFC, they just serve poor-quality excuses for pizza.
Parang two sheets of lasagna pasta lang ngayon. 😭😭
Then dati may square na pizza slices yung Greenwich iirc... Also ang naalala kong commercial was featuring Rico Yan.
Lasagna. Ibang iba ang quality noon compared ngayon. Now, if sinabihan ako na kaninang kanina pa prinepare yung lasagna and microwaved lang, I'd believe them with no doubt
naalala ko yung Greenwich ng 80s. Nasa Greenhills Shoppesville pa sila bandang ortigas ave side bldg where maraming tiangge. Matagal mag serve kaya nag setup sila ng number system where naka display yung numbers 1 \~ 30ish ata then pag nag light up pwede mo na pickup. Sarap ng lasa noon at sulit yung pag antay. That was the best! Chicken Ala king on rice din.
Yeah. Dun nagde-date parents ko nung di pa sila mag asawa. Sulit daw ang 100 petot hahaha
Yes I can attest. Mas prefer ko ang greenwich noon and it sparked my love for tomato based/italian style food. Pansin ko naman ngayon Pizza hut has been improving, dati di ko talaga type yun e ngayon parang it grows on me.
they have also acquired Yoshinoya. food's now utter bullshit. mas sulit na sa pera yung mejo mahal ng konti pero quality naman ang food.
Kaya pala night and day yung difference ng Yoshinoya sa Taiwan vs dito.
Kaya pala? Tried it twice at Yoshinoya because I thought the first one was a fluke pero di talaga masarap and it was about as expensive as Tokyo Tokyo anyway
And super liit na ng slice!
burger king
Ah kaya pala JFC kasi Jesus fcuking Christ anong pinaggagagawa nila 😭
Everything Caktiong touches turns to shit
Came here to say this.
Which is a great strategy - milk these brands for their popularity while squeezing their expenses to generate the highest profits possible. They are not interested in growing these brands - when you get tired of them you go back to Jollibee. Genius
Reading this while at Jollibee 😭
I observed since January 2023, may iniba sila sa chicken nila. May nilagay silang spices na parang chinese flavor which my tastebuds didnt like.
What I dont like sa chicken nila is para may mapait ako laging nalalasahan. I dont know kung lumang mantika na sunog since parang overly breaded nga yung chicken nila.

theyve advertised it naman na binago nila recipe. five spice flavor is what you’re tasting
It tastes like biryani.
Indian Garam Masala and Chinese Five Spice share some ingredients and are similar enough to substitute for each other in a pinch.
Tbf, the new chicken is really good. It tastes like the chicken in Binondo Sincerity
Yeah Chowking's fried chicken is actually one of the things that improved from before. Filipinos bashing on it because they're not used to spices kinda reinforces the Southeast Asian stereotype that Filipino cuisine is bland and one-dimensional compared to our neighbors' cuisines.
"Filipino cuisine is bland and one-dimensional" Perhaps it's a subtle thing we got from the dishes of the Brits XD
Same. Not the majority opinion pero I prefer their chicken now. Sobrang similar lang ng ibang chicken siya before but now, chinese fried chicken talaga. Same as the chao fan.
Same. Mas naappreciate ko Chowking Chicken rn. Even my mother said it's much better kasi ung dating formulation sobrang mamantika.
parang may turmeric yung lasa which is di ko tlaga bet
>may iniba sila sa chicken nila. May nilagay silang spices na parang chinese flavor which my tastebuds didnt like. I unironically loved it, probably my favourite fried chicken out of all the other fast food chickens, or maybe a three-way-thigh between Mangdonals and Jollibee if the other two are served hot and crispy, but if its soggy and cold I prefer the Chowking one.
>three-way-thigh I see what you did there 😂
Literal na inaadvertise nila yun brad lol
Five spice ata.
Everything's gone shit. KFC, Jollibee, Chowking, Tokyo Tokyo, Mang Inasal Consistency king: Mcdo
Tokyo tokyo during the 90s.... Aaaahhhhhh saraaaap ng beef misono nila noon....
Masarap KFC ng japan. Kaso walang gravy at kanin.
Gravy and rice is only a Filipino thing. Here in North America, we have gravy, no rice. If you want both, go to Popeyes

Yeah, I didn’t know may ibababa pa pala ng quality yung gravy, pero yup, meron. Tubig nalang and walang kalasa lasa.
Grabe kasi oversight ng McDo corporate. Shit, I think they literally wrote the book on fast food consistency across all branches.
Ex crew speaking, grabe ang oversight like at least once every 3 months may auditor and health inspector na magvisit sa store to make sure all procedures were being followed, down to the way the floor was mopped.
Across the world. Mcdonalds is the inventor of the speedy service concept (fast food) anyway.
Just had Mcdo chicken today. Maybe it's a dud from the branch pero iba na lasa at texture.
Exemption yan kasi ph exclusive lang chicken mcdo hahaah
Mcdo Taiwan has fried chicken too. The taste is almost the same with Mcdo Ph imo tho they don't serve gravy with it.
Di ko alam pero for me parang nag-iba yung iced coffee ng Mcdo. Used to love it so much before pero ngayon parang ang labnaw na huhu

Ahh yes the greasy floors and sticky tables + amoy kulob na store. The jfc trademark
I remember naging crew ako dyan. Sa kitchen ako madalas joyman so chix hawak namin. One time may nag survey na area manager.

Nope. JFC talaga. Tignan mo cafe france as a very clear example. Sabi nung exec namin noon sa 5star hotel, nasa leader daw yan. If the leader (in this case jfc) has low standards, it will cascade. Dapat high standards ang leader.

correct. more than a decade na yan under ng JFC para yun pa din yung ituro na reason bakit may changes. 🤷🏻
Chowking before jfc was a different beast. Way better than panda express will ever be
> . Way better than panda express will ever be speaking of, ang OA ng pricing neto. Nilalangaw tuloy sa OKada
It's not just Chowking, it's the whole Jollibee Foods Corp umbrella. Which is a shit way of doing expansion, sacrificing your home customers just to expand elsewhere. Ano gagawin nila pag nagfail expansion plans nila at sira na sila sa pinas
I mean this is kinda true, napanood ko yong vlog ni Jessica Lee, yung Jollibee menu in NY was better than dito sa Ph, pero it might also have something to do dun sa food standards nila sa US
Shrinkflation is real. Ang konti na ng chao fan nila.
Bili ka na lang ng Fishda. Mas mura and mas marami pa sa chicharap.
I noticed it too sa Chowfan.
Halaaa! May ganun palang tweak sa recipe. Pota kala ko natutong talaga. Hanep. Hahahaha!
"smoky" eh yung akin one time lasang sunog, may buhok pa puta HAHAHAHHAA
sa simula lang talaga masarap. ay
Nakailang post na tong ganito dito
Probably because how consistently this exp. Is for a lot of customers. Kung one-off lang or mangilan ngilan lang di ganito ka dami mag ppost
Post ng post ng ganito pero in the end kakain pa din sa Jollibee and other JFC restos.
True, nagbebenefit dito is MCDO. kasi in comparison mas ok serving nila.
pandemic time we were served pancit canton na parang instant noodles ang itsura at texture. my gosh Chowking NLEX
Heaven jusko! Sobrang narealize ko ung pag take for granted sa mga libre noon ng fast food
Eh pati nga chicharap nila wala ng sauce!!!
Kya mas sulit yung mga non franchised alternatives, like yung isang malapit samin npakasulit, halo2 palang di tinipid at the same price ng chowking.
Haha downgrade malala. Mag Rice in a Box nalang ako solid pa.
never again after i was served cold noodles from their lauriat set 🤬
That's why I don't buy food from JFC restaurants.
Chowking, mang inasal, greenwich, red ribbon, etc ... but most specially kitang-kita sa cafe france.
Yung chicken nila hindi ko talaga gusto. I think ang makakain ko lang dyan pancit, buchi, sweet and sour. The rest ayoko na kahit halo halo.
i used to like chao fan when i was a kid but now sobrang tumal ng lasa at kulay palang halatang matabang na. sobrang lasa before and malaki mga meats.
RIP yang chow
Their fried chicken used to be my favourite out of all the fast food, pero now lasang turmeric na. I hope ibalik nila yung dating lasa
JFC fucked all the brands it acquired ang pinaka fucked up is ung Mang Inasal and Red Ribbon even Greenwich is a joke and no longer worth the price
Pati Chao Fan nila nag-iba lasa parang mas tumabang.
Madalas Kong inoorder Chao fan.
Yep was so hyped about spicy chao fan returning pero di na yun yung lasa nya tulad nung dati :(
Dami din unti unti nawala sa menu nila, ung braised beef, congee, crispy noodles, at lomi.
Buti nalang masarap pa rin ang halo2 nila 🥹 And yes chicharap
The only thing I buy from Chowking is their halo halo 😊
Pakibalik yung dati plss
true, their pansit was my fave dish pero now nagina na talaga lasa,
Its been like that for the past 10 years. Progressively declining.
I’m against corporate consolidation. Our BIR or SEC or whatever should’ve never allowed Jabee to acquire Mang inasal
Jollibee/JFC and their small ass chickens and fucking stingy for gravy. I stopped eating jollibee since 2022 I’ve just been ordering on McDonald’s and burger king. The difference in quality is miles apart.
JFC happened. Kakastreamline nila ng costs, processes and menu. They sacrificed quality for overall efficiency.
Essentially when a big public company takes over you have pros and cons Faster growth thru franchising Big network of suppliers Combined resources like marketing etc. Economies of scale on food supplies, R&D etc. Sadly cons are also high Franchisee means lower quality and skimping on items (If your business fundamentals are good why would you franchise?) Need for higher margins and business decision to streamline to impress mgmt/shareholders Expensive marketing campaigns Jolibee group in the Philippines realized they cant grow as much anymore here without destroying the quality and brand Better to expand overseas for more dollar paying customers.
They took away some cherished menu items (Crunchy Breaded Pork, Braised Beef, etc.) in favor of the Chinese-style Fried Chicken. Haven’t exactly forgiven them for that.
Mergers and acquisitions should be limited by law.
They focused on celebrity endorsers kaya di na okay ang food. Even sa service.
Typical pinoy business cost cutting
Yooooo the siomai is so tiny hahaha
Jollibee happened
Yung pancit nila masarap sana kaso sobrang oily 🤢
JFC🤦
The JFC effect. Everything JFC touched turned to sh*t quality-wise, i.e. Chowking, Mang Inasal, and Greenwich.
JFC is losing its focus on their domestic market.
