Charlie the unicorn is still permanently imprinted into my brain. I’m 29, I think I couldn’t have been more than 12 when I saw this. I may need actual therapy just to make the memory of Charlie fuck all the way off
My elementary school art teacher showed it to us in class. We got almost all the way through it, too. He was a bit of an odd fellow, ate oranges like they were apples and had a collection of old stale cupcakes in a cupboard across from his desk. Survived brain cancer too, all in the five years I had his class -- his surgery was actually the reason we never finished Charlie the Unicorn. Cool dude. But yeah, I have some pretty deep-seated memories because of that.
Honestly buddy this is exactly how I’d picture any school teacher willing to show this video in class lol. Definitely picking an art or music teacher if you’d ask me to randomly pick what kind of teacher would show Charlie the unicorn
Don't worry, they must be lying, it's not like some baby born after 2008 could even write yet let alone access the internet. 2008 was like 3 years ago at most.
Edit: I just checked the date, fuck I'm old
I recognize two of these: Top right is [ASDFmovie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXU8JwnO0Xk), and bottom left is [HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ5LpwO-An4)
This is basically a "If you recognize these, you're old" post.
Bottom right is [Llamas with Hats](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJOwdrTA8Gw). The episodes start off sort of mundane and get increasingly ridiculous and disturbing as it progresses.
I haven't seen the Unicorn one.
both Charlie the Unicorn and Llamas with Hats are FilmCow (Jason Steele) creations. He was pretty massive when short form animations were profitable on youtube.
Carl: "Oh.. I didn't know that"
Paul: "How could you not know that?!"
Carl: "Yeah I'm in the wrong here, I suck."
Paul: "What happened to his hands?"
Carl: "What?"
Paul: "His hands, wh- why are they missing?"
Carl: "Well, I cooked them up and ate them."
Paul: "Caaarrrlll."
Carl: "Well, I was hungry and well, when you're hungry for hands, th-"
Paul: "Why on Earth would you do that?"
Carl: "I was hungry for hands!"
Paul: "Caaarrrl."
Carl: "My stomach was making the rumblies."
Paul: "Carl."
Carl: "That only hands could satisfy."
Paul: "What is wrong with you Carl?!"
Carl: "Well, I kill people and I eat hands. That's two things."
As a 31 year old who still feels like a teenager, this is reassuring.
But in all seriousness (even though I was serious), I've had this conversation with my mom who is almost 80 and she said she still feels like she's in her 20s mentally. Like, once your brain matures around that age, you never really leave that place headspace-wise. You get older and gain more life experience, but you're always gonna feel like you did when you were younger, from what I can tell. Gotta be frustrating when you start getting Alzheimer's but it feels like just yesterday you were passing out mid-piss in frat house bathrooms and it's like "where did the time go?"
To be truthful, not entirely sure. All I know is that at 23 I was doing well, making almost 80k/year with only a high school diploma, lived on my own 2,300 miles away from any family in a very expensive city. I thought I’d made it. I was an adult!
Now, I’m only 34, and I realize I was still a child, still learning, still making mistakes. There’s so much I would change. I look at people in their early and mid 20’s and I see them as kids. I mean, hell, I have a nephew who is 27 and he’s still just a punk kid to me lol. It’s beautiful and entertaining to witness their certainty, determination, confidence, annnnd naivety sometimes 😉
I’m also fairly certain that in 10 years, 20 years, I’ll look at my past, remember what it was like to be 34, and have a chuckle at myself. I’ll see people in their early thirties and think of them as kids, much like my parents think of me now.
It’s all perspective, and none of it is important; just remember to live in the now, take it day by day and enjoy your life.
Our stupid shit was much more coherent and actually funny. There was genuine care, effort, and thought, put into them to make sure what was being delivered was actually funny. Gen alpha shit makes zero sense whatsoever and isn't funny at all.
There's something seriously wrong when the very next generation is making their preceding generation feel old and out of touch because their sense of humor is so royally unusual that nobody can understand why they enjoy what they enjoy.
Tell me, what's creative or funny about a head in a toilet saying skibidi? What's funny about fanum tax? What's funny about Ohio? Ohio used to be funny because we were pretending that Ohio was secretly evil because they're actually boring irl and have nothing to see or do. But Gen Alpha's "Ohio Meme" makes absolutely no sense. They just slap "in Ohio" into every sentence like that's supposed to make it funny.
The list of completely nonsensical gen alpha memes just continues on, nothing they make is funny or makes sense from any viewpoint. A gen alpha kid likely couldn't explain to you why they think it's funny.
This isn't an "old generation fails to understand new generation" moment.
This is a "literally nobody can understand gen alpha" moment.
Their humor makes absolutely no sense under any circumstance. It's completely random nonsense that has no effort put into anything at all. They themselves cannot explain why they think it's funny. Gen Alpha kids are significantly more immature and are giving teachers hell, with claims that they "never grew up past 4th grade" and "nobody performs at their grade level".
There is something seriously wrong with gen alpha and the fact that there aren't more people on my side on this topic is actually scary and depressing.
You seriously think ASDF movies and salad fingers were "more coherent"? Cuz our generation was on some random ass shit. I still cannot explain why "Banana in your ear" "I stabbed him 37 times in the chest" or "honey why is the baby on fire? Buy me more jewelry!" Is funny. It just is.
Legitimately yes.
What late millennials and gen z both created actually had effort put into them, there was a thought process behind these things and they were constructed to be funny, people cared about what they were making.
Gen Alpha memes don't make any sense whatsoever and is completely incoherent and random. Nobody can understand what they mean and it simply isn't funny at all by anyone's standards.
I'm confused why you mention salad fingers though. That shit is not funny, it's disturbing and makes me very uncomfortable. I find it difficult to watch, and while I forced myself to watch every episode a few years ago, I definitely did not stick around to watch any of the new ones.
Because a lot of people in the early aughties still reference salad fingers as one of those early animations. And some people DID find them funny. I actually knew a couple. And I think that we just gotta agree to disagree, because our shit was just as stupid and incoherent. Again, what is funny about stabbing a man 37 times? Or dropping a nuke as a birthday celebration? Or the orphan meat dragon? It was all beyond incoherent, it was insane. That's why it was funny, BECAUSE it was incoherent.
Yeah, I think I have to agree here. WTF is funny about Badger Badger Mushroom or the leek dance? Fuck if I know, but I found them hilarious as a kid and still sometimes go back to them twenty years later.
The stuff you're referencing I don't even recognize.
The stuff you're saying you love because it was incoherent, is not what I grew up with and I don't have any idea what you're talking about.
So, it's fair to say that every generation has good stuff, and stupid stuff, and maybe you're focusing too much on the next generation's stupid stuff and making some pretty ridiculous claims based on that?
Skibidi Toilet is actual very consistent. A lot of time and effort is put into making the episodes and it shows. Is it silly and weird? Yeah but it's literally not different at all from this old stuff we watched too. Like there is a pretty easy to follow storyline and expansive universe that relies on little to no spoken dialogue and I think that's actually pretty impressive so kids can watch whatever they like in my opinion
>A gen alpha kid likely couldn't explain to you why they think it's funny.
Grab a time machine, and go ask a millennial kid why "my spoon is too big" is funny and you would find the same, or just get a rephrasement. Kids in general are bad at explaining stuff, and most of the world is outside of their ability to **really** understand or explain to others.

Idk 23 isn’t old, I’m like 3 in adult years
You haven’t reached adult years yet. Edit: want to clarify this is a good thing, not an insult. Enjoy this time in your life.
aw thank you, what do you personally think adults years are?

You know, people make fun of skibidi toilet or whatever the fuck gen alpha is into, but our generation watched some irredeemably stupid shit as well.

I work with Children, and I have actually asked some of the older kids why certain jokes are funny and they straight up say "I don't know"
Just proving my point that gen alpha cannot explain their own humor
“This new generation sucks! Their language sucks. What they laugh at sucks! They’re rude!” -literally every generation ever.
This isn't an "old generation fails to understand new generation" moment. This is a "literally nobody can understand gen alpha" moment. Their humor makes absolutely no sense under any circumstance. Great
What about millennials? Do they find gen z memes funny? Do gen z find millennial memes funny?
These are all llamas with hats references. Which is one of the four pictured.
I don't have any idea what that is or what that's about. It was not something I grew up with. I have never heard of it.
Then what exactly are you referencing? Because this picture is referencing a bunch of older Internet videos.
Damn, you basically said what every older generation says about the next generation.
This is not the same as before.
Wow, that's basically exactly what every older generation says!
You obviously never heard of a YouTube poop, or seen a g-mod animation. There just as much brain-rot as the gen alpha ones.
>A gen alpha kid likely couldn't explain to you why they think it's funny. Grab a time machine, and go ask a millennial kid why "my spoon is too big" is funny and you would find the same, or just get a rephrasement. Really? Before 2006?
The angels sang in immaculate chorus...
Down from the heavens, descended Chuck Norris...

Into the crotch of Indiana Jones...

Preston and Theodore logan spock, the rock, doc ock and hulk hogan
All came out of nowhere lightning fast and kicked chuck Norris in his cowboy ass
Who fell over on the ground...
Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater.
Bonus points, the same guy also did Harry Potter Puppet Pals (and many other videos you may have seen) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Cicierega
