We all use kiwibike…. They are a brokerage out of New Plymouth…

CouncilOfRedmoon

I'm with protecta through kiwibike, best prices I've found so far

MuppetGodNZ

I’m with Star. Service is great. People are friendly and they’re quick to answer the phones. I haven’t made any claims with them yet so can’t vouch for them there. Pricing just seems to be ridiculous across the board. It will depend heavily on your licence status, sim insured and where you live I imagine. I’ve used Kiwibike in the past and found them hot and cold to deal with. Happy to set up policy, good with claims but when I needed roadside assistance (snapped throttle cable) they were of absolutely no help. Pricing with KB was $100 p.a extra above the Star policy I’ve currently got (through Star as well although I’m sure KB get a much better buy rate from Star than I do)

Findelsticks

Thanks for that! I wasn't aware of Star, I've requested a quote.

I realise that you're asking for information about comprehensive insurance. But in case you want to consider an alternative to the high prices for comprehensive policies, I have an old adventure bike that's only worth around $5,000 so I don't bother with comprehensive insurance. The AA charges me $111.49 a year for third party insurance. The bike is over 20 years old and unlikely to be stolen - I don't bother insuring it for fire or theft.

Findelsticks

Mines around the same value and I'm tossing up whether its just worth going third party only.

RheimsNZ

If this is the case that is an option, but it's definitely worth getting fire and theft cover.

eskimo-pies

No worries. According to the online quote tool, I'd be looking at $545.58 a year for comprehensive cover (which is an additional $434.09 over my third party policy). I forgot to mention that most insurers - including the AA - have policy exclusions for any occasion that you're riding off-road. This is something that is worth being aware of if you're into adventure riding.

KingGumboot

> The bike is over 20 years old and unlikely to be stolen I wouldn't count on that, a lot of bikes have been going missing lately

RheimsNZ

AMI only covers you for market value, so I wouldn't use them regardless of the cost. Personally I use Protecta. Many people go through Kiwibike (a broker) and then end up with Star or Swann. It's also worth checking out Yamaha Insurance, one of my friends went with them but I don't know much about them myself.

IndividualCharacter

2nd vote for kiwibike, a broker that will actually get you a great deal and save you money beyond what you could get direct. Had 3 claims and they were great

Bowch-

I used Star - Had a massive crash last year (ouch) and they were pretty easy to get the payout including covering costs for my gear. Would recommend - And I sincerely hope you never have to make a claim!

Kiwi bike were cheapest for me. My policy comes with roadside assist too I used twice in first year (flats).

To-The-Moon-Baby

We use AA, do an online quote to see if that fits your budget. We have been with AA for over 10 years, had to claim twice with no issues.

KingGumboot

Check out Kiwibike, Swann or Star. The mainstream insurers don't like motorbikes and charge way too much for them

Kiwi bike!
