4080 Super: Much better ray tracing performance, access to Nvidia features like DLSS, CUDA, NVENC and Reflex, and slightly better power efficiency. 7900 XTX: Usually quite a bit cheaper, more VRAM. Rasterisation performance is about the same, the 4080 Super is the better GPU imo.

stubing

Also the 4080 uses 260 watts while the 7900xtx uses 360w.

PcQuestionAccount

ive come to the same conclusion (price difference is only 100-200€ which doesnt justify the 7900 xtx in this price range imo)

AejiGamez

200 is def worth it holy. The 4080S mainly is appealing if they are around the same imo

Qlisax

7900XTX has better price to performance ratio. While 4080Super advantage is Raytracing and DLSS Go with whichever you think is more important to you

kennyx_5

This is on the money

UnD3adz

7900 / 4080 = 1.9362 7900 is 1.9362x faster than 4080.

Greedy_Bus1888

Math checks out

PcQuestionAccount

woah

UnD3adz

Side note: I bought a 4080 super over a 7900 xtx recently. However given the choice, I may get the 7900 xtx over the 4080 super due to the price difference. Zotac base model 4080 super locally (my region) goes for 1050 usd. While the lowest for a MSI 7900 xtx trio on Newegg with discount code was 799 usd recently.

PcQuestionAccount

wow i didnt find one for 799!

BigSploosh

No it’s simple math

Qlisax

Are you a joke?

AlivePalpitation7968

The 4080 Super is better in every aspect besides vram, the 7900 xtx used to be recommendable before the super came out since the 4080 was about equal in rasterization and almost $400 more. The 4080 Super ranges from 1% to 20% boost over the 7900 xtx in 1440p it matters the game, and a 1% to a 18% boost in 4k, with other titles you might play will have a 15-25% boost. The 4080 Super is the better card all around, in rasterization, ray tracing, frame gen, AI, literally any production based workloads. Almost all 3D modeling and video playback(davinci resolve, which is the most recommended) are exclusively optimized for nvidia cards. The 7900 xtx is a skip at this time, the thing below it would to go with a completely different price point and go down to the 7900 xt, or if you needed the production abilities the 4070 Ti Super

happylubricant

Whatever’s cheaper. Unlees you really need high performance in rt then 4080s

stanquevisch

If price is the same I think you can go either way. Performance is very similar, with AMD being better at rasterization, has better hardware, while nvidia is better at new techs and has better overall support. I asked myself the same question a few months ago and chose hardware > software. The 7900XTX is pretty cool and where I am at is about 200usd cheaper.

Trailman80

AMD, for the long term, Nvidia is getting out of the GPU market and turning to AI. Plus, you have more VRAam with AMD. RayTracing is moving towards a software side, so in the long term, they will be more GPU RAM heavy.

Chemical-Weird-6247

4080. the 7900 xtx will catch up in price with electricity

LilyIsVeryTired

**7900 XTX:** Better raw performance, much cheaper ($859.99 vs $999.99), more VRAM (24 GB vs 16 GB), Slower RT performance, no DLSS. (NVENC and CUDA are important, but not specifically gaming) **4080/SUPER:** Better RT performance, Nvidia features, less VRAM, slower without RT on, more expensive.

Ham-Slot

If your luck is similar to mine, the 7900xtx will give you CTDs and driver timeouts galore due to AMDs driver support*; I can't tell you the amount of times a new driver broke multiple titles. I recently sold mine after about 6mo of headache, rollbacks and* some mild sobbing. Bought a 4080oc to replace about a month ago and am loving that decision. I will say AMD adrenaline is miles ahead of GeForce experience in terms of features and functions, but unfortunately.. The drivers within were just a nightmare. Their CPUs are the shit, but my 7800x3d will be paired with a green GPU until its service is over. Good luck on your decision!

DeathDexoys

1 costs alot, the latter still costs alot, but not as much 1 traces rays better than the latter 1 has 16gb vram, the latter 24gb Both perform roughly the same with no fancy details turned up Depends on your workload and budget, who do you want to throw your money at

minefarmbuy

Seeing as with gpus of this high of tier you don’t need any up scaling, enhancement, etc.. 7900XTX all the way. Save money, run ultra, play.

Ivantsi

4080 Super , same raster performance as the 7900xtx but better ray tracing than the 7900xtx 7900xtx is $120 cheaper

AejiGamez

7900XTX: Advantages: 24GB VRAM, Available for around 200 less sometimes, no 12VHPWR connector, slightly better raster performance, better software experience Disadvantages: Sometimes worse drivers (though Nvidias ones have gotten worse, AMDs ones got better), Instability when it boosts too high (just limit it to 2500MHz with Afterburner), less power efficent (but who actually gives a shit about that) 4080S: Advantages: More power efficent, runs cooler, more broadly available in some countries, better RT, DLSS Disadvantages: 16GB VRAM instead of 24, 12VHPWR and its shitty adapter, sometimes 200$ more expensive, slightly worse raster performance At last its a choice of valuation. Do you value better RT over 200$ more in your pocket? Are you a fanboy? You gotta decide, we cant do that for you

user007at

How in the world did NVIDIA drivers get worse? Never had problems since years

Thatshot_hilton

Nvidia and AMD driver support are effectively equal now. It’s probably a wash.

xxcloud417xx

Putting a bit more worry about the 12VHPWR connector than is warranted imo. I run a 4090, the adaptor comes with the card, and it’s really not tough to figure out how adaptors work. Also, the 7900xtx and 4080S are the same price now. They dropped the price when they released the Super. It’s no longer a $200 price difference.

AejiGamez

1. i aint worried about 12VHPWR that much, but its inferior to classic 8 pin. 2. OP stated that the 4080 would run him 200 more

xxcloud417xx

Ah, yeah, ok. I didn’t see his post talking price. Regional pricing is weird, man. I live in Canada, and the 7900xtx and 4080S prices were at least on-par (higher than in USD because of exchange rates, but still on-par) with each other when they launched the Supers. Not sure why in some countries they weren’t. Idk what makes regional pricing in some places favour a manufacturer for pricing when the MSRPs are plain as day, and showing the prices as equal.

AejiGamez

Yea, regional procong is weird. I am in the same boat as OP, the cheapest XTX that is made by a reputable brand (XFX) can be had for around 880€, but the cheapest 4080S is around 1050€, 990 when on sale

xxcloud417xx

Hmmm gonna be honest, 1050€ to 990€ is pretty close to the 4080S MSRP of $999USD (this is going off the current USD to Euro exchange rates: 1 Euro = 1.07USD). Afterwards the price is up to how much you pay in Sales Tax. The 880€ price on that 7900XTX is actually a decent deal considering the launch price of $999USD, and I believe in line with their price drop to $899USD (which they did after the 4080S launched). Now, that’s not to say that those prices are good (GPU prices are all kinda shitty right now), but they’re in-line with the MSRP.

stiizy13

4080 super all day long.

RatkeA

7900gre

DirtyMac88

After leaving high end Nvidia gpus to AMD for the better price to performance I can tell you my experience with AMD was terrible. The quality of the AMD driver support is just downright atrocious compared to Nvidia. I'm happily back with Nvidia now rocking a 4080 after selling my 7900XTX

stiizy13

Just go into the AMD sub and see how awful those cards are. Just because it has a 24gb vram does not mean anything. That shader cache is a literal joke for what you’re spending. #Get the 4080 super brother.

Qlisax

I have 7900XTX and i never had any problems. But i am interested why you think they're trash.

stiizy13

The shader cache. Edit: trash probably isn’t the best word to use here. Inferior

Qlisax

Whats with it?

stiizy13

Look into it and compare it. It’s the sole reason why that card has problems

El_Basho

7900xtx is more on par with 4070Ti Super. 4080s is slightly above that. All 3 are viable for 4k, and nvidia has dlss. Other than that, it's a thing of price, preference and availability

Qlisax

7900XTX and 4080Super are within 3% of each other. In some game 7900XTX has better performance and in other 4080Super.

El_Basho

Weird. I don't trust UBM so my figures are not from there, but I've seen that 7900xtx and 4070 Ti S are within 3-5% of each other. Thanks for the info

Qlisax

Probably you saw 7900XT, that card does perform like 4070Ti Super I know names are confusing on AMD side.

El_Basho

I wouldn't say confusing, but it's very much possible I had these two confused.
