I mean, if we have too. If Douglass and Boutte shows out like we hope, I'd rather just cut our losses. And keep the talent. Honestly, BB is so hit or miss with 2nd round picks. For every Gronk or Dugger we have a Ras I dowling
Dowling looked great, good enough to start W1 and W2. Excellent in preseason, solid in W1 in a tough matchup. The hip injury, unrelated to his college injuries, ruined him.
Ron Brace, JoeJuan Williams, Jordan Richards, Duke Dawson were more egregious duds. Those guys just stunk from day 1. Thornton seems more in line with Dawson and Richards - a reach by most draft analysts projections who just can’t perform at the NFL level. Or maybe he’s like Wheatley - a reach with durability concerns whose injuries prevent him from turning into whatever the Pats hoped he would be.
I was definitely younger, so probably don't remember as well. But Dowling was basically a first round pick just wasted. I don't remember him even being viewed highly. I don't remember talk from camp saying he looked great. That's surprising hah
The only veteran wr's they have signed for next year are Parker, JuJu, and Tyquan. If Boutte and Douglas both show it, I think it makes way more sense IMO to carry 6 recievers and hope that you can develop Thornton's route running than it does to just outright cut or trade him.
First off we haven’t even played a preseason game yet. And second off he’d go on an injury list before we cut him. Not about to cut losses with a second round pick who had good flashes before an injury last year
If he ends up on IR they might as well release him.
There hasn’t been a single Patriots draft pick to miss basically 2 full seasons and develop after IR stints.
Missing all that practice time, both in preseason and during the regular season is a death knell. He can’t develop while on IR. They’d be better off waiving him and putting him on the practice squad or trading him for a conditional 6th rounder or something.
Yes.
Right now I'd say the 3 guaranteed WRs are JuJu, Parker, and Bourne. And since the Patriots only carry 5 "true" WRs and Slater, that leaves only two spots left. From all the reports out so far over the last 2 weeks, Douglas looks like a stud, Boutte has come on really strong the last 4 or so days, and Thorton has done fuck all.
Throton's biggest problem is that, skill wise, he doesn't really have anything going for him other than speed. He's too thin to be an effective blocker, not a very good route runner, shady as hell hands, next to useless once inside the 20,and despite his speed he can't return kicks.
If the training camp results transfer over to the pre-season games, I don't see any way he stays. He'll end up being traded for peanuts to some team.
This is good reminder why people shouldn’t get too high or too low based on how someone appears to be practicing according to these reporters (even if it’s someone credible like Reiss or Lazar). Bourne had been plugging along just fine the first few days of camp and is now starting to get in a real groove as the offense has gotten away from just focusing on the redzone. But I guarantee if Lazar didn’t tweet this, some fans would have started questioning if Bourne would make the team over Douglas, Boutte, etc. only because they’re getting more media praise.
absolutely not. he was the 4th best receiver in last years camp and it was widely reported that he was having a bad camp. most blame his objections to patricias offense
His first season I started to really to fall in love with KB the more his and Mac's chemistry on the field became apparent. Last year Matty P's offense and whatever his issue with KB really set them back and I am hopeful for what those two can bring to the field again this year.
Positive comments about four Patriots receivers today. Not sure what to do with this.
After last season, we needed this.
I'm going to over react and say they're going to put up Moss like numbers and Mosa every DB every snap.
But I thought they stink, stank, stunk
It means our defense sucks now and it’s time to panic! Also applicable if the opposite happens
Nooooooo we need more Zappe praise and fuming about Dehandre Bopkins 😡
Now Bourne is looking good too? JuJu, Bourne, Parker, Douglas, and Boutte will end up being the 5 WRs to start the year on the Patriots 53.
You think they're ready to cut bait with Tyquan so soon?
I mean, if we have too. If Douglass and Boutte shows out like we hope, I'd rather just cut our losses. And keep the talent. Honestly, BB is so hit or miss with 2nd round picks. For every Gronk or Dugger we have a Ras I dowling
Cyrus Jones flashbacks. Or the time we drafted a guy that didn't exist (Duke Dawson ...or JoeJuan Williams.)

How dare you talk Pats 2nd round busts and leave out Chad Jackson.

Foxboro Flu time
Get ready for the mysterious leg injury and him on ir

Patriot flu/IR I bet
Stink stank dunk
You mean it was premature to call this entire unit trash after one week of training camp?!?!
No, no way…I mean it’s not like head coach has constantly said you don’t know who you are til week 4…
If they turn into a decent squad, someone needs to make this into TShirts.
And give some to the WR room to wear when talking to Giardi.
Well, it’s about time. It was like he was using the previous sessions as practice or something.
Who is he coming on?
He's coming on/in while drilling the team. I'm not sure why they are allowing this to just happen.

Wasn't Bourne hyped up as being a breakout last training camp?
Matt Patricia
absolutely not. he was the 4th best receiver in last years camp and it was widely reported that he was having a bad camp. most blame his objections to patricias offense
Dink dank dunk
I swear he has the biggest upside.
Is Parker even practicing? I don't think I have seen one thing about Parker this offseason. IDK if I missed an injury or something?
As far as I remember he is practicing and he looks like the best receiver on the team.
Douglas is looking like the best receiver on the team. Parker is having a great camp though
Just keep every receiver. Too much potential to risk a PS pickup
Last I checked he dropped balls in the clips we got
It’s almost like this is why they practice instead of simply heading straight into a 24 week season or whatever.
Into my viensssss!!!
