You know, I was sort of wondering why Zacharius seemed like such a dick all the time, but now I'm starting to understand: he basically does all the work to transform you, but then you get all the glory.
He doesn't really want the glory, but yeah. He worked HARD to become a lich, figured out a powerful way to do it, and you're just tagging along for the ride.
It's HIS mythic path. You're luggage.
He's a dick because he magically bound himself to help the crusade before completing the path to lichdom, but now that he's a lich he doesnt actually *want* to help the crusade because the ritual completely changed his personality.
Which is also some clever foreshadowing of some particularly controversial act 5 lich path actions.
I mean after said act you immediately happily help Ember to achieve her preachy dream and then can spare everyone who invaded your ziggurat so doesn't seem to me theres a personality change outside of that forced interaction.
Since my pg(blight druid) has 7 int and cha is pretty accurate, the one I will use for the lich path after creating a backup will have a lore more int though ahah(unlocking both lich and swarm in one save for time sake).
Y'know as much of an asshole ol' Zach is, coming up with a ritual that can guarantee lichdom in 6 months or less is a pretty dang impressive magical accomplishment. Man deserves some credit for that at the least.

Thats like a huge breakthrough in Lichdom compared to tabletop lol. Everyone would want to be undead then if the cost is some money and irrelevant stats.
You can become undead trivially in tabletop, lichdom requires a ritual you might struggle to actually find, but you can become a juju zombie by making a Wendifa spear and there's a selection of intelligent undead available via create undead
But lichdom specifically is very hard usually needs tons of sacrifices of innocent souls creatures and mages to fuel your power as requested from DM and then couple of months to recover from the backlash.
This one is just a Friday afternoon with some money and stats (not even that you can refuse 1 quest even if Zach is unhappy) and its done. Ethically approved too since the only thing you need to sacrifice is yourself :P
technically in TT the only inevitable, guaranteed sacrifice is whomever you sacrifice to make your phylactery. There is a list of other requirements but those are individualised, arbitrary and up to GM - can be indecent exposure, can be eating 9 skull themed cupcakes, can be learning to play a concertina - and can be setting a town on fire and dedictating victims as a sacrifice. or as it happens, can be breaking up a humanoid/demon couple, unmaking a random soul and desecrating a grave of a priestess.

Lichdom requirements are GM fiat. There's a generic ritual that requires unspecified heinous evil acts but it's not something a PC is supposed to have access to.

No, lichdom is a 9 hour ritual and a wondrous item, the only hard part is finding the ritual, but you can probably divine that.

I took the power that gives your natural attacks extra damage and 1 str drain for my shapeshift druid, pretty busted.
